CanadaEver had doubts?
Aw, man...
I really hope she comes back and talks to you about it-- that is not right. Relationships are hard -- men and women are really different in how they process stuff like this and the distance and immigration does not help sometimes.

But, I do believe that when two people have a good, strong connection -- they tend to understand each other well and accept each other without having to niggle/naggle over every little thing, despite the communication boundaries surrounding emotions and whatnot that our sexes have set for us, you know?

Just my humble opinion. Also? I don't think it right for her to just go without a word -- that is unkind, to say the least. I agree with Jaucque (sp) when he/she said that hate is not the opposite of love, apathy is.

Good luck with everything. I do mean that. It's not easy, none of it but I am of the opinion that it is well worth it, lumps and all...

USCIS Service CentersCall Uscis from Canada

I'm sorry, that was one of the MAIN issues I had with USCIS too... we, as the beneficiary, can't call. That number only works in the US. Plus, the petitioner as to be the one who calls. There is no other number for the USCIS. Sorry! sad.gif

I'd get your USC spouse to call. it sucks but it is how it is. You could try Skype or some other internet phone system but they'll want to ensure that you're the petitioner and ifyou're not, they may not help you.
Don't worry though, once you're at the NVC, both parties can call and i have to tell you, that rocks.

not to mention, the folks at USCIS are not really that helpful anyway. It was a waste of time both times I got my husband to call.

Good luck to you.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusThe cat rant and rave
Hey MrsCat...
I agree with you on this 100% I'm bringing my cat with me too -- I love her to bits and though my husband is not nuts about cats at all, he would NEVER make me choose or ask me to leave her behind. As it is though, I am responsible for the cost and effort of getting her here as duh... I am an adult and can and will take care of all my own business.

And i read this post the same way too -- he's a guy, like yours and mine, who's not wild about cats but just wants a hand in perhaps dealing with the whole situation... .

You said it perfectly, MrsCat... you really did.

To the OP, good luck to you and I think you should stand up to your wife and tell her to figure out some stuff to in order to lay the foundation of what you may be able to do to help... that's what a relationship is about, no?

Good luck... hope wife and kitty make it home okay...

^ I read his post last night, and felt the same way as you Kathryn. And honestly, I am sure if she posted about this, my mind would change again too. But we only have his side, and while sounds harsh, I think he sounds like a husband whose just fed up.

I read the post again this morning and felt completely different. If the cat is so important to her, than she should be the primary person making the arrangements to get it here safely. I love my cats and did not want to see them left behind. I also did not want to make them my husband's burden, because he quite frankly doesn't like cats all that much. He never would have expected me to leave them, but I also felt it was my responsibility to care for my pets as I always have. I wouldn't have trusted anyone to make arrangements for my pets other than myself. That way I could ask all the questions I needed to about their care, transferring planes, medication etc.

Of course this is a one-sided post and we don't have her side, but it doesn't sound like she really gives two craps about her cat, since she hasn't made much of an effort to figure out what is needed, how to arrange care between flights, ensures that the costs are accounted for, arranges a pet examine prior to leaving. . . . . . .

I wasn't reading his post necessarily that he expects her to leave the cat behind rather he wants her to take some initiative. Maybe I read it wrong.

Okay, just got our I-130 approved today...

Am wondering, while we wait for our NVC number to be generated.

How will we know once it has? Will they call/mail/let us know? Should we call?

Call and use the AVR. Enter your USCIS case number. When NVC has entered your case into the system it will change from "We have no record of this case..." to "NVC has assigned a case number..."

Can both the petitioner and the beneficiary call? The USCIS only allowed the petitioner to call.
Both can call.

Once it's been generated, what will be first?
The DS-3032 will be first, then the AOS fee bill. Should be the same day.

The NVC 'generates'' the DS 3032, CHoice of agent form, does it get mailed to me? Only the beneficiary?
And the AOS does it get sent to the Petitioner?
If you give them both of your email addresses you will both receive everything.

This is truly confusing...

In Part 3 it askes the petitioner if they're sponsoring the principle immigrant named in part 2, that's me... Check box.
Then check box again for yes...

THEN... in question 10, it asks to name total number of immigrants.... 1, just me, right?

But then we get to household size, this is the odd part, enter number if immigrants 1, thats' me. then petitioner, that's 1, so that's two. but then it askes petitioner to enter 1 for spouse, thats' me again. Um... that's 3, my friends. As far as I know, there's only he and I... wink.gif

So, what's the correct answer as I am both the immigrant and the spouse. Which do we check?

I'm going through all the NVC documents and have a couple of questions for those who've submitted...

OF-230
Line 25 asks for the beneficiary's permanent address in the US. Do I put husband's house in the US? As I don't officially live there yet, I was wondering about that.

Line 22 Family name of Beneficiary. I switched to my married name just a couple of weeks ago, so I'm assuming that that'll be okay as they ask for other names used (maiden).

Lines 28 A-z I'm going to assume that they are asking me these and thus, I should check no, as none apply to me anyway.

That's it for that part. The only thing I'm concerned about is my name. If I get my police check done under my maiden name, as I've had it for my whole life save for 2 weeks, won't they want one done for my maiden name too?

Will I have to do two police check certificates?

Thanks all... I realize I ask a lot of questions.

Because most people who can help you (the ones who already sent that form) do not have the form readily available to them, but must open it every time to see what question you are referring to, I would advise that in the future you type the entire question so that people can answer your questions quickly.
Just a thought ...

Line 25: Will you live at that address where your husband now lives? If so, then it does not matter that you do not live there YET. It WILL be your permanent address in the US where your Social Sec. will be mailed, for example (unless you move later, which is ok, you just notify them of address change, no biggie)

Line 22: If you have changed your name at the time of marriage and changed your documents, then yes you should put your NEW smile.gif name

It is preferable that you answer NO to A-Z smile.gif

Don't stress about the police certificate name, you will submit your marriage certificate which also shows your maiden name, so it makes sense that the police check be under that name. Try to remember one thing: as new as all these forms are to you, the people and agencies issuing them to you HAVE done this before. As long as you explain the purpose of your forms, someone will direct you when you request the forms.
Good luck!

Thanks.
LGG

There are two different paths with the NVC paperwork. AOS is one and the DS3032 & IV package together make up another. Check out this flowchart: http://www.visajourn...wchart_v1-2.pdf

The DS3032 and AOS fee bill are generated first. A while later, once the DS3032 has been accepted, they'll generate the IV fee bill.

Remember you can't send things in right away after the bill has been payed. You'll have to wait a few days for the status online to be updated to show that it's paid and print out the cover letter from the website.

As for who mails what, they don't care. Usually the petitioner mails everything just because it's quicker and more reliable to have everything mailed within the U.S. I don't think you'll have too much of a problem with mail coming from Canada actually getting there and doing so in a timely fashion, which is a huge problem in countries with more questionable mail services.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Can the petitioner and beneficiary send in their own docs?
I'm wondering, as the beneficiary, once we get our NVC number and I send in the DS 3032, I'mgoing to choose my husband as our agent, can we each send in our respective packages of information?

Can he send in all the AOS and I-864 stuff on his own, keeping records of it for me and for his files himself? And then can I, the beneficiary, send in my IV stuff like the DS 230 and all my documents?

If we do it this way, attaching all bar cards and reference numbers, will this be alright with the NVC? How do other people do it?

Or do they have to be sent in one before the other, kind of thing?

I, at this point, am believing that once I submit the DS 3032 and pay the IV bill (does the beneficiary pay that?) and he pays the AOS bill then we'll be good to go.

I've read a ton of timelines to figure this out, but they're all over the place.

Thanks so much.

I called and spoke to an operator and he said some blah, blah, blah about it being processed and stuff like that but I don't understand. We sent our IV package out and it was sent to the NVC on Friday morning.

What the hell? anyone else get this sort of thing?

Thanks a lot,
LGG

PS
I cannot wait to be done with all this and move on -- there seems to always be a little worry about something.

Thanks guys...

And what, I haven't called? Geez... the 'hilarious' thing is? I am at work, my boss, whom I actually really like, has on office right next to mine -- she thinks that my husband is coming here. Thus? I feel like a moog making these calls when she's there and might hear me.

I am paranoid at best...

after I get the Cannot Sign in to the NVC Fee payment site?

How long did most people wait to have the AVR at NVC change and/or get a letter signifying that their case was complete?

Thanks guys...
