CanadaDo I have to wait...
sends me the AOS package?

We're finished filling it out/compiling it using the forms we got from the website. We have paid our AOS bill and it's been accepted and our barcoded cover sheet has been generated.

On the AVR, it says the AOS fee bill was accepted and processed and that it will send us something in 6-8 weeks but we don't have to wait for that package do we? We can just send what we have?

Thanks, just checking...

Best, LGG

CanadaQuick tax question
as my husband does is taxes electronically... he has all the copies and the copies of the W2s to go with, should he sign them?

There is also this past year where he filled as married to me, I signed the one he sent in and the ITIN paper and such, but as I'm not there,
should he sign his signature to the copies?

Thanks all...

CanadaDoes Montreal
I saw this thread:
http://www.visajourn...howtopic=185033

And I was wondering if it was possible to have that done in Montreal for myself? I would really like that as it would save me 100$ and all the time and running around it'd take to get new docs to procure a new passport when my present passport is still good for 3 years.

I don't need all my stuff in my married name, I just really wanted all my new US documents in it.

Any advice would be helpful. We're filing for a CR1 our of Montreal, Canada.

Also, for the Canada wide check... I can suggest you go to a small city - or call in advance to ask how long and how much, since it varies. I went to the Edmonton police and they told me it would take 6-8 weeks... WTH!!!! Then I went to St. Albert and it was done in 72 hours. smile.gif

Canadawhat is to be done next.

I actually just got mine today. I got it from the Police headquarters in Downtown Toronto, as that's closest to me, and it was 25 dollars plus 5 dollars for another copy. It took them 2 weeks to get it to me, I have no criminal record, and it was pretty easy. Just make sure it's a Canada wide/RCMP check but that's pretty easy to figure out.
If you need more information, PM me and I'll forward you the details.

is this enough? or will i eventually have to get the criminal record check that takes a long time ( i hard up to 6 months) and uses finger prints?

Hey Kathryn...
6 cats??? wow! I know, she's going to be a spaz, she doesn't even like it when I move her from the couch to the chair so I can sit down. Really, really good advice, thank you. She's been such a good friend to me and so chill, I'm hoping I can make her feel not so scared. Oh and I know she'll hide for days after this, it's her way as I've moved apartment with her before. Id' never put her in the back, either -- she's up in the cab with us most likely mewling the entire way.

sorry your older kitty passed away -- that's sad. Heartbreaking. I'll be all broken up if/when my teddy cat goes.
Thanks for your advice.

QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Jul 21 2009, 01:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I moved with my 6 cats to the US on a two day trip. It will be a long day for your kitty. Don't sedate her, especially at 16 - that is a good age for a cat and the sedation may cause additional problems. I will say that the trip and the move will be stressful on her regardless of what you do. You will need to keep the cat in her carrier with you in the cab - she can't be in the truck body. Plan on 'rest stops' every 4 hours or so where you can let the cat use a litter box ( you may need to have something small and portable you can keep with you - don't open the doors of the vehicle for any reason while your cat is out of the carrier! See if your fiancee can have a room set up before you arrive with the cat that has a litter box with litter already in it. Your cat will be very stressed by the move and may retreat under a bed for several days. Also, have a good complete vet check for her before you go and address any medical problems then. As well, keep an eye on her after you arrive because stress can also cause medical problems and you may need to have vet treatment afterwards.

My 15 year old was very stressed during the trip down and developed a urinary tract infection from the stress. She stopped eating and no matter what I could do I couldn't get her to start again. I force fed her and eventually did IV fluid drips with her but eventually she passed from hepatic lipidosis - initiated by the stress of the move. My other 5 cats did fine although it took them some time to adapt.

One of my cats meowed the whole time - two days worth of driving! The others were intermittant. I covered their carriers with towels because everytime a transport truck roared by us they 'cringed' from the shadow moving over them. If you can keep your cat's carrier on your lap (I know that is a long time to do so) and talk to her and reach in and pet her it will go a long way to making her trip easier on her. And at 16, she does need babying.

~posted in CR1 too, hope that's okay~

Our IV payment was just accepted, I have printed out the Barcoded sheet and am going to send my package tomorrow. I was wondering if you all had any last minute tips or whatever for me. I think I'm pretty well prepared so...

I have the coded sheet, my cover letter, the DS230 Part 1 and part ii, only part 1 signed. My original B.C., our original marriage cert. copy of the bio pages of my passport, my original Police certification, 2 US standard passport pics with my name, birthdate and NVC # on the back and then a copy, verbatim, of the entire thing.

have I missed anything? every single page, copies included, has our NVC # written on it. IF it's an original, I put our NVC# on a sticky note and paper clipped it. Everything is attached to white paper that is small and well... any tips or advice would be helpful. I'm planning on sending it by UPS tomorrow morning.

Thank you all so much.
LGG

PS My husband was divorced and we had to send the USCIS an original copy of his divorce decree (he is the petitioner, the USC), I don't think I have to send it to the NVC again and I myself have never been divorced, is this correct? I plan on bringing it to the interview though.

CanadaQuestion regarding Divorce Decree...
Hi there, I have been reading and not finding this answer... my husband, the USC petitioner, was divorced and we sent his Divorce decree to the USCIS.
So, am I also supposed to send it again with DS230? I had thought that the DS230 was beneficiary based and since I haven't been divorced = no divorce decree sent.

I was told by some good folk on the CR1 site that I have to send his anyway, I'm looking for a Canadian who might have been in this same situation.

Thanks a lot. It's no big deal or anything, I have the certified copy and all, just want to know if it should be included.

Thanks a lot.

as are you! I figure if I'm going to be driving all the way across country I will only take what I need and be comfortable in my car instead of uncomfortable in a uhaul.

For a move from Ontario to California

The quotes I've found (incase they help anyone)

Uhaul - the truck alone is $1,677 and the smallest they have is a 10ft, I think with my stuff I only need about 6-7, plus $40 for a tow dolly. Can use up to 10 days and 5079 kilometers. Gas extra. Bonus - there to check my own stuff through customs

ABF - 6ft of trailer space, terminal to terminal is $1,776 or $2076 for door to door, plus $13 for customs check. Gas and taxes are included in this price. If I need more space its $158/ft which isnt too bad. Estimated transit - 5 Days. Bonus - they check your stuff through customs for you.

Broadway Express - I dont know why but they quoted me a 10ft trailer. $2, 953 for the truck alone. They also charge $595 for an origin/toll fee, and $430 for fuel charges. Total quote $3978. This is another pack it yourself company so the charges to me are outrageous. They also expect you to be at the border with them to help with customs on your goods. Rediculous.

Hey guys... lots of great advice here but... we are NOT going to be driving it. I guess that's how it's going to have to be .But when I read that one of you rented a U-Haul for like 800$ and then had to pay for gas... well, that's about 1200$ right there.

I called PODS and they sound great, i just wanted to see if i could get a little cheaper than 2 grand. I don't have a lot of things either, or rather, I won't...
but it's something like 1 small coffee table, a small antique sewing table, a stand but heavy stand up antique radio, and a rocking chair and let's call it 40 boxes of books and personal things. In my books, that's not a lot of stuff. but if you factor husband's flight to get here, renting the truck, driving the 9 hours or so with a cat and such... it sort of equals about 2 grand anyway. Getting someone to drive it down would just be saving a lot of stress and hassle.
I'm just wanting to see if I could get it down to a grand. I'll let you all know what I find otu, okay? As I'm sure there'll be other Canadians in the same boat.

Issaquah, WA: I loved the same things about Auburn Hills that you mentioned, except in Issaquah! I also loved the amount of choice when it came to different cuisines in our mid-sized town. I also loved how close to the mountains we were and how we always got more snow than Seattle.

Currently in Vancouver, BC: Nothing, really. There is so much rudeness and self-absorbtion here that it's very hard for me to handle (I'm from the Southern USA..). I wish we had been able to live in the Okanagan. People were so friendly there when we visited!

I'm from the southern U.S. as well (Texas) and I have to agree with you about Vancouver. The "nice and polite" Canadian stereotype is not alive and well here.

To be fair, however, there are plenty of rude individuals in the U.S. (and Texas), but maybe I didn't notice them as much. Maybe I also knew who and what areas to avoid, as well. When you move to a new place -- whether or not it's in your home country -- you're guaranteed to notice things that you wouldn't normally before.

Anyway... I certainly don't hate Vancouver. It's a very nice and beautiful city. The best part about being here is my wife and my inlaws. Yes, I said my inlaws. I really like my wife's parents and apparently they really like me. I'm very fortunate in that respect.

Maybe so. I've been here for almost 4 years now, so I have no idea. I don't hate Vancouver either, but I think I'd like it better if I lived in a different part of it (*cough*north shore*cough*).

I didn't realize you were in this area, too. We're by Lougheed Mall. *puke*

CanadaEver had doubts?
Aw, man...
I really hope she comes back and talks to you about it-- that is not right. Relationships are hard -- men and women are really different in how they process stuff like this and the distance and immigration does not help sometimes.

But, I do believe that when two people have a good, strong connection -- they tend to understand each other well and accept each other without having to niggle/naggle over every little thing, despite the communication boundaries surrounding emotions and whatnot that our sexes have set for us, you know?

Just my humble opinion. Also? I don't think it right for her to just go without a word -- that is unkind, to say the least. I agree with Jaucque (sp) when he/she said that hate is not the opposite of love, apathy is.

Good luck with everything. I do mean that. It's not easy, none of it but I am of the opinion that it is well worth it, lumps and all...

Best,
LGG
