CanadaThe weatherman is the Grinch

Oh I hear you on that! I am on that site all the time at travel time. That and accuweather.com which has the best weather and FAA flight stats and stuff like that.

It's so easy to become obsessive over this sort of stuff, isn't it?
Can't wait 'til I don't give a hoot about what the weather holds and if the airport is backed up.

hey Wyatt, if you haven't already, get yourself on Flight stats and accuweather...
Obsess with us, it'll be fun!

I've been checking flightstats.com religiously to watch for delays. Flying DFW to YYZ tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait to see my lady on the other side of customs.

OH and I apologize for the really bad spelling and stuff in that previous post.

Really, eh? Do you know why Reagan's still a mess? I was originally supposed to fly into Reagan but they were kind of enough to change my ticket to BWI when I caught them having a seat sale JUST AFTER I bought my ticket.
Yeah, I kind of had a conniption at the poor Air Canada person who took my cool. But geezus.
Anyway, slightly off topic, I apolgize.

Oh, i am also stuffed to the gills with proof of ties to Canada, I hope.
This is SO cool, this technically could be my last visit! I may not have to leave the next time. How odd and cool that'll be. ':)

QUOTE (Wyatt's Torch @ Dec 22 2009, 10:45 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My wife gets off work at 6:00 every day, and she works tomorrow...so flying on Christmas Eve was the only option for her, really. Otherwise I would have strongly urged her to fly out on the 23rd.

Baltimore airport has been fine for the last couple of days -- no delays. It's just Reagan that has been brutalized by cancellations. You'll be JUST FINE, froggie!

(Total off-topic musing here: why does "canceled" only have one L while "cancellation" has two? Hmm...)

Oh you guys are freaking me out!
I always have minor panic attacks before traveling and I watch the weather and the FAA Flight delay charts like a maniac. You know why it is, right? SInce we're separated from our spouses/loved ones every minute counts and any delay is just heartbreaking. Not just for me but for all you guys too.

I'm flying to Baltimore tomorrow at 7:30am. I took the earliest possible flight so that if there were delays, I might make it. Who knows right?

Fingers crossed for all of us. Flight delays are SUCH a bummer.

CanadaVaccination Requirements...
Yah, that's what I thought...
I had a blood titer test done as I have no record of my childhood vaccinations. So, I only have the present MMR and TDP boosters that I just took. I have no other records so I guess my next question is, is my vaccination record with this on it okay or do I have to bring in the results of the anitbody titer test?

Thanks for your response...
biggrin.gif

QUOTE (HisGirl @ Aug 10 2009, 08:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
For the medical you need:

-tetanus
-diphtheria
-pertussis
-MMR
-Varicella or verbal declaration of chicken pox
(and perhaps Gardasil if you are within that age range)

I wrote the toronto office asking if I needed the blood titres test or if written proof was enough and this is the reply I got:

" You DO NOT require Hep B. Written confirmation of all vaccine dates is acceptable OR the anti body blood titres.
You must provide dates of at least 3 TDP in your life with one of them within the past 10 years
Dates of 2 MMR in your life. "

hey everyone...
thanks for your responses!
We just got the ticket for him today -- and yeah, BWI does NOT offer a direct flight anymore -- oh well.
Wanted to let you know, that Air Canada is having a seat sale -- we got his flight for 400$ which isn't so bad...

AS for the hotel, I think we're going to stay at Le Square Phillipes as it sounds nice-ish. any one stay there?

If so... what did you think?

Hope everyone's holiday is going well! It's been busy -- we went to my husband's sister's and her husband's last night and played hearts until 3am!

CanadaQuestion for you all...
hey all... how's the holidays going? I am having a blast... been hanging out with family and stepdaughter and stuff and it's been awesome.

We've been looking at flights for my husband for our interview in January and though I lived there for 12 years I cannot, for the life of me, figure out the answer to this question...

Do they no longer offer direct flights to MOntreal from Baltimore any more? He flew there one time a few years ago to meet me and we were sure he flew direct. i'm also pretty sure they had some direct flight even a few months ago. but the past few weeks, all we see are flights that transfer in Toronto?

Any one fly AC lately from the US to montreal? Was it direct?
lemme know, okay?

Hope you're all having fun -- haven't been around much but i'll make up for that when I'm back to work!

well, now that I'm in the US, i am getting ready to do some baking. I am making tortieres and pecan pies and sugar cookies this year. As well as making meals and stuff.
Tomorrow I am making my pie crusts. I think I'll also do some quiches too. I love it!

CanadaBack Home....Finally
I flew back on Air Canada on Sunday night, I NEVER check a bag as I only travel with a laptop sized bag and a very small backpack. I had to check the backpack this trip. I waited for over an hour (more, actually) for my bag as they'd only opened up one carousel for 5 flights! It was a little nutty. I didn't get charged for the bag but what I was really miffed about was that they made me check my teeny bag but when I was on the flight, over half the passengers had 2 or more bags, most significantly larger than the one I'd checked, that they either brought on or were allowed to sky check.

Obviously they are just muddling around with the new protocols and stuff but i was really p1ssed off that they were so inconsistent on such a small flight. The flight to BWI is on a dash 8, it holds about 35 people -- they could have either ensured we were all allowed to sky check or that we all had to check our bags.

Anyway... it was a bit of a cluster ** but in the grand scheme of things -- it could've been a heck of a lot worse...

Just sharing my post Underwear Bomber story with you all...

CanadaShould I close my Canadian credit cards...
ah, good to know. I actually called them awhile ago and was told no problem with moving to the US. Good to hear/read that that is the case. They've actually been a good bank, actually. They ran around like maniacs to accommodate me with some stuff last year and it was might nice of them. For a bank, that is.

Presidents' Choice, however... they're not so accommodating but I have no credit cards with them, just a savings account so I won't be missing them too much. Their fee plan was amazing though. Like NO fees.

I have a CIBC Visa and multiple accounts with them. I had no issues when moving; they just required the date I would be considered a US resident and my new address. I use the CDN VISA whenever I visit Canada and pay it off using online banking. Same with Bank of Montreal.

Surprised to hear about the difficulties with TD. My husband (both CDN and US citizen) has accounts with TD. We have found their service excellent. He has had no problems with keeping his accounts open and up to date and has been in the US since '92. He updates his accounts once a year and they are more than helpful even when he is not in his home branch.

CanadaShould I close my Canadian credit cards...
I am actually totally GUTTED by the fact that our Canadian credit rating is not applicable in the US. Or at least offer us the option to use it anyway. My credit score is perfect for the first time ever and now I'm not even going to be able to use that to my advantage.

Oh well...
:D
lggNot TellingCanada2010-01-05 10:31:00
CanadaShould I close my Canadian credit cards...
Good thread, guys.
I am actually planning on keeping one of my Canadian bank accounts active and it happens to contain both my credit cards which I will keep active as well. This way, while i'm waiting to develop credit in the US, I still have the means about me in case of an emergency of something like that. Plus, I don't think it's a bad idea to keep an active credit rating in Canada as well, no?

I guess the only problem would be, how to get money into that Canadian account and such? I don't think it's insurmountable and this thread will be of use to many of us I'm sure. But I am of the mindset that keeping my Canadian cards is NOT a bad idea and I would very much like to do so.

PS
I also called my Bank, CIBC and they don't have a problem with my having a US address either so...
