CanadaI need a Tourtiere Recipe
I LOVE tortiere. I made a whole pile last year. This is my fave recipe but it's better as you tweak it to your taste. I use this one as a guideline but a tortiere is as different as every family.

I always add more clove and lots of onion. ANd I make a homemade ketchup maison for it. that is like a tomato and onion chutney but en francais! It's sweet and sour-ish and great with your tortiere. I make that from my head but I'd be happy to give you a low down for it if you like. It's simple.

Torteire Recipe

I always make my own crust and I also skip celery as I hate it. I'll put a little dash of celery salt instead. I like a half pork and half ground beef myself. My dad used to make it with venison and pork mix. Really good.

Oh #######! Tell me about it. Oh and then? How about the 'kids' with little to no web or design experience who come in and 'design' sites for, oh, say, a cookie or a sammich or something therefore making it harder for the rest of us who actually know our ####### to charge a decent fee.

True story.

Fecking kid did a ####### site for a baker that wanted me to do it for a damn freaking COOKIE!!!!
It was a big, fancy cookie but holy #######. I was going to charge scale.

CanadaA little laugh for the designers...
OH my god.
This was like the last web design I did.

The first meeting was like, okay, don't use our colours, our logo, our fonts or any of our marketing material. We want a fresh, new look! I know, makes ZERO sense, right.

3rd meeting later, after 4 organic mock-ups, they bring in a new business partner who, you guessed it, wants to use their fonts, logos, colours and all the rest...

It was a BUST UP!!!!

WEll, it was truly awful.

They did, however, pay for my design time which is better than the nothing some people would get. Deposit. Up. Front.

Hey there, Just want to say that I'm really sorry for what's happened. How about, if I may suggest, you guys get married at city hall or something during this visit and then have a renewal of vows/party when all the immigration stuff is done?
I would really suggest it as with how long it's taking Montreal to schedule, you really want to get your paperwork in and stuff as soon as you can .

I wish you luck. And even if you wanted to do an AOS, (I know you said you aren't but I'm just saying) you can't now with this in his passport and in the system. It will be a little tougher for him to get in so... why not just get married now so you guys can start the process. Use this energy for that rather than using it to try and get his visit prolonged or getting one ready for February
Just my humble...

Good luck!

Thank you. And we would love to do just that. Unfortunately due to finances, I am in the process of a divorce. It's been filed, paid for, but my court date isn't until january 8th. Just four days after they are making him leave... My ex and I have been separated and living apart for a couple of years. I only wish we could have gotten the divorce done sooner... or had some clue this would happen, then we would have booked the trip for later on!

We always intended for him to file for the CR1 visa while home in Canada. It is not even a consideration to do anything but that.

A family member of his suggested we visit the local ICE office and see if they will extend the stay. Is this a good idea? If his stay was extended, we could get married since I don't really think he's going to have an easy time getting back in the country, and then he could go home as intended, and we would begin the CR1 visa...

I am so confused as to what is best. I'm scared they wont let him back in. We would never even consider illegal immigration, but of course, they don't know that. We just want to get married, but unfortunately can't do it within the one month they gave us.

Any advice? sad.gif

I think it just means that he has to file for a visa while outside the country, I believe! I could be wrong. I think they will look at him a little harder upon future visits too, so just make sure he has a TON of ties to Canada...
Best of luck to you...

He is allowed to stay until January 4th, 2010, after his one month stay (Dec 5-Jan 4) now. We want to book a two week trip for him mid to late February.

CanadaBirth Certificates
Hey there...
yeah, you WILL need the birth certificate with your parent's names and dates and places of birth on them. It's called a 'long form' but that doesn't sometimes represent size, just content.
you'll need it. I would order two, if I were you.
What province were you born? I was born in British Columbia and it took only like 8 days for them to get it to me.
The time it takes and the cost differ between province but I believe that they are all referred to as a long form.

Hello all, after reading around on the k1 forums I seen some people talking about needing a birth certificate that has both parents name on it. Mine does not have my parents names on it, it has my name, dob, birth place, date of registration/issued and the registration number.

Will this work or should I look into getting a different one with my parents name on it?

Thanks

Instead of a poll let's do some research and find out what percentage of Canadians travel to the United States compared to the percentage of Americans that travel to Canada. The point being that the numbers weigh heavily in favor of the average American having no idea what you are talking about if you say "zed", while on the same hand the average Canadian knows that Americans use "zee". This same type of mentality is used by those French-Canadians that expect everyone in the world that dares to visit Quebec, to speak and understand French.

Are we bitter at all? laughing.gif

I would think it has very little to do with actually travelling to the U.S. - I don't know if you are the Canadian or the American Scott - what are the odds that if you are visiting the U.S. that you would hear the word Zee? I think it has more to do with the fact that we get a lot of American television up here.

Also - 'those French-Canadians' you speak of are 'our' French Canadians and while, for some of us they are like an annoying Brother or Sister - they are OUR Brothers and Sisters and it's not nice to insult someone elses family.

I never really remember it ever being called Z'ed' in Canada until the 90's. Maybe I never noticed or maybe people just never said it, but growing up in the 70's and 80's even in Southern Ontario everyone I remember called it Z (zee).

Maybe a lot was because I was brought up on the rhyme from Seaseme Street and this was before Canada hijacked the show and induced 'Canadian Content' changing the letter from Z to a Zed or something.

I just know it just sounds really odd and strange to hear it called Zed, though now when I visit Ontario, it seems everyone now says it that way. It was like everyone in the early 90's jumped on this whole Canada kick and started trying to show they have a unique identity or something and started using the British term for it more. No clue. Still sounds really weird and foreign...

That may just be a Windsor thing. Or it is that you never noticed it. lol. The rest of Ontario says zed.

Yeah I agree, we always said zed too and I never watched sesame street laughing.gif

CanadaMedical Review
Hey all... just came back from my medical in Toronto. I live downtown so, it was a pretty quick metro ride and then I took a 10 minute walk to get there. I have been up since 5am and got there at about 7am. I recommend this as when I got there, feeling all set up, there were already 5 people ahead of me.

This clinic is 100% efficient and I found the staff very nice though perfunctory. They really know what they're doing. I submitted all my documents to a lady who wrote down all my information and got my details together and took my 275$ in cash. Then I waited for a bit and was called in for my chest x-ray. The woman who performed it was a bit curt but actually, we had a couple of laughs -- just let her move you about like a rag doll, it's easier that way. I wore my hair clipped up but if you have long hair, she'll want you to keep it up for the xray.

I went back to the waiting room and then was calling in again to a different nurse who did my blood work. Again, fast, efficient and nice. back to the waiting room where I was then called in the questions and the medical. I was prelim checked for ht. wt. bp and heart rate -- all healthy and normal. Then 2 male doctors came in and asked me all the questions. Joked around a bit with me, asked me what I did for a living. They checked my vaccination record all was well, asked me the litany of questions about did I do drugs, have any diseases, have I tried to kill myself and such and so forth .I am not on any medications, never have been and have not had any surgeries save for my wisdom teeth being taken out when I was 18. I don't do drugs or have any issues with alcohol or anything so it was fast and easy. I know there is some uneasiness about these questions, but the way they are phrased is hard to miss.

i was asked, do you take street drugs? Of course not.
Have you ever had a problem with alcohol. Of course not

I wonder if the phrasing is the same for all panel physicians as I found the answers to these questions quite obvious. I was expecting to be asked, do you ever drink (as drugs have never been an issue) and I was fully prepared to say that I had a couple of drinks every two weeks or so-ish. Depending on the season and whatnot. But it was pretty straight forward.

So, those guys left, (I was asked to get totally naked and put the backless gown on but I kept my undies on as i got a case of the shys).
Then another doctor came in with a nurse with him to oversee him while he checked my heart and my organs and looked at my feet and hands.

Then finally, another nurse came in to give me a breast exam. Nothing too probing, just a prelminary check. She also went to check 'under my gown' and was a little taken aback when she saw I'd kept my undies on. I asked her if she needed me to take them off and she said no but asked if I had any scars there that she should know about.

All of it was, really. I guess they're just making sure that you're preliminarily healthy and don't pose any real risk for any communicable.

So... I got dressed, signed out and am hoping that on Wednesday I can go and pick up my results.
I was told to bring a large shopping bag as the xray is enormous

There's my review of the medical I had in TOronto. If anyone has any questions or whanot, feel free to ask I'm happy to pass anything on to you.

I feel really relieved that it's over. After I get my stuff on Wednesday, the last step is the interview. I can hardly believe it.
