GOd, me too! I can't wait until I relocate so I can ransack every garage sale and antique store I come into contact with! It's been odd/weird/unlike me to be getting rid of stuff but the trick is/was not looking back or opening the bags earmarked for donation/garage sales.

Well, glad you guys are enjoying them !

I am a HUGE fan of the formal verse. quite a skill set that! Free verses, I wrote that when I was an angst-riddled pre-teen. I still have some of it. It's Vom worthy.

Speaking of coffee.... i could go for one....
But a fancy one with a hazelnut flavour in it or something.... yeahhhhhhh.....

QUOTE (Wyatt's Torch @ Nov 17 2009, 01:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Oh, don't worry about it at ALL Sean. The state of modern poetry is pretty horrible these days, and I have no respect for most of the free versers. I think most current poetry is self-indulgent, trite, pretentious nonsense.

I still write formal verse (sonnets etc.), which has been out of vogue for the last couple of generations, but is starting to find a home in some of the major publications again.

Well, in this culture and society, of course there is. However 'unspoken' it may be, there totally is a stratified socio/economic breakdown implied by what a user may wear or choose to imbibe.

The trick of it all is to not give a ####### and do what you want to do regardless of those ever-present, permeating social norms that come about in a first world country based solely on the financial flux or non that we experience.

Uh... this was in response to TM who has since changed her mind...

For the record, I-like Mal-also enjoy both Timmies and Starbucks. However I also agree with wyatt-about timmies people and starbucks people. Timmies people are my people, down to earth, no snoot-snoot, they wear jeans and talk about hockey. You can often walk into a starbucks and find someone writing poetry on their laptop(actually I think it's a prerequisite to bring your laptop to starbucks) BUT-they have great coffee. I don't really order any specialty drinks, my wife has worked at starbucks for over five years, so I just really like their beans(they give employees a pound a week).
I guess I just really hate yuppies and pseudo-intellectuals. Timmies coffee is still pretty smooth, just weak. I guess what I'm saying is that if I had to be stranded in one or the other, I'd rather get stranded in the timmies.

I am a Second Cup girl, myself. I love that it's a Canadian company as I'm all about supporting that but they happen to make nice, full-bodied coffee. I will be honest -- I have been on a 'budget' for the past year or so in order to be debt free and to amass a little cash for my great departure to the US... so, I limit myself to Second Cup about 2 or3 times a month now just for a large medium blend coffee... I have saved CRAPLOADS of cash this way. I bring my own coffee in a thermos and I brown bag my lunch pretty much everyday.

It seriously has made a HUGE difference in my savings and such. I am THAT person that actually did it be cutting back on treats and such.
I have managed to be completely debt free and save some money so....

No, actually, I HADN'T noticed your anti-Tim Horton jingoism! I've long declared that most urban Canadians are either Tim Hortons people OR Starbucks people. I don't think there's a lot of overlap. I myself am a Starbucks person. I can't even begin to calculate how many thousands of dollars I've spent at Starbucks in my life. I'd venture to guess it's in the five figures at this point. My first three years out of high school I was a full time receiver at a Chapters, which means that there was a Starbucks on site. Given that we were allowed to have drinks in the receiving area, plus we had occasional discounts and freebies at Starbucks...yeah. I was a corporate junkie. When I worked in Richmond for a few years, there was a Drive-thru Starbucks right around the corner from where I worked. So sure enough, me and my Torchmobile would cruise through there each and every morning. Worse still, I became smitten with one of the drive-thru baristas which gave me even more reason to drive through there! "Yeah, I'll have a chai tea latte, a ginger cookie...and your number!" Okay, I never said that last part. tongue.gif

Yep, Wyatt's Torch: corporate slave since 1997.

G'morning everyone!

I am sitting here drinking MY coffee... I like my coffee pretty strong -- well, more full-bodied -- it's why I don't like Tim Horton's coffee, it's too weak for me. My coffee this morning has Sweet & Low in it and homogenized milk. I prefer demerarra sugar and cream but with the amount of coffee I drink, I keep to fake sugar and milk during the week. ON weekends or holidays I will dress it up with full sugar and cream.

I'm pretty sure that if I did not take the precautions I do, I'd be a full-blown diabetic as I like my coffee quite sweet. biggrin.gif

Meh, well so much for being 'healthy'. Well, I love the taste, that's for sure. But, why go through all the process to refine sugar and take out all the molassy-taste only to put it back? That sounds totally counter-productive to me.

But, I do happen to love Alton Brown and Good Eats... so,

QUOTE (Peachey @ Nov 16 2009, 04:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Alton Brown says that Brown Sugar now-a-days is just white sugar with molasses mixed in. Might be where you get that "molassessy" taste LGG.

This is what I always buy from the organic store and I'm hoping that it is truly 'unrefined':

Demerara (also spelled "demerera") sugar's name comes from the Demerera River area of Guyana, where sugar cane was grown. Demerara is another unrefined, centrifuged, large-crystalled, light brown, cane sugar; it is slightly sticky and sometimes molded into sugar cubes. Some Demerara is still produced in South America, but most is now produced in Mauritius, an island off Africa.

lgg - my husband has a Samsung net book and he loves it. He also bought an ASUS netbook (he's into 'gadgets' in a big way as well as being a computer geek - and proud of it, hehehe) when they first came out but that one also has the small keyboard and he did find that more difficult to use. He would hook a regular keyboard up to it (and bought one of the roll-up keyboards to use with it when he went out). The Samsung has almost a full sized keyboard and it works great. While he has other computers (as I said, he loves 'gadgets') he basically uses the netbook as his main computer for basic daily stuff now. He sometimes hooks it in to a full sized monitor if he needs to see the screen more clearly. He takes it with him when we go to Barnes & Noble for coffee and actually price shops on line to see if a book he is interested in is cheaper at B&N with his discount or on Amazon! Geez. You just made my palms sweat.
But that's my math as well. There are always far fewer CR1s/IR1s than there are K1s so I know that probably in all of Canada, there aren't more than about 100 or less waiting for an interview. I think I over-estimate too but...

I would LOVE those guys if they did a Publishers Clearing house of all us Dust-bunny CR/IR1s and then picked up the pace for you guys.

Despite what you may think? I am a very optimistic, forward thinking person -- it takes very little for me to be appeased and happy....

C'mon -- humour me, k?

Well, I was just taking a look at Trailmix's CR-1 timeline, and despite what I had previously thought, there are only 12 active CR-1 VJers waiting for an interview (11, if you don't count me since I'm only at sign in fail and not officially Case Complete yet). So if you assume that VJers account for maybe 1/3 of all CR-1 interview waiters (and that's a totally unfounded assumption...just seems like a ballpark number to me), then that means you have around 36 folks in that same boat. If the Montreal Consulate plans on doing a scheduling blitz like they did with the K-1s, well...it's not outside the realm of possibility that half of the people currently waiting on an interview will get one for December, based upon the assurance of the consulate director (see the Missa / KnJ / Cdn_Gewels thread) that there will be a lot of CR-1 scheduling soon.

Maybe I'm naive. Maybe I'm overly optimistic. Maybe I just have a positive glow because of my sign in fail. But I can't help but think that things are going to get better for all of the CR-1s VERY soon! smile.gif

Sorry Malrothien. sad.gif Hope yours will be CC soon!

I saw all 3 when I was kid and LOVED them. NOw they are more of a nostalgic experience for me. I think if I'd seen them as an adult I'd have been underwhelmed as well.
Now? They are pure nostalgia.

I just ate my lunch. Leftover Gnocchi with a red sauce I made, hot italian sausage, onions and mushrooms Really, really good.

My food cravings have quelled and I'm a salty girl -- i will always crave salt and carbs over sweet and sugary or baked goods.

You leave my legs alone!!! I need those to hop away with!

God, I am trying to eat my veggies and for a snack today, I brought in raw broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Now, with this thread, all I want is a burger.

#######? How come I can't get my body to crave veggies the same way it craves burgers or fries or chips???

Hah! Yes, I think most people think I'm nuts for liking a sandwich with mayo and ketchup. But when you think about it, how is it different from dipping fries in ketchup...or dipping a grilled cheese in it? Not much difference at all!

Ketchup is best on frog legs though. Yep, just dice up the little green critter, fry him for ten minutes, then dip that frog leg in Heinz. Mmm. Nothing's tastier!

Okay now THAT is a little twisted there, my friend. But I will admit that one of the reasons that I love french fries and even hotdogs as they are both vehicles for condiments.
I adore condiments. Mustard of all varieties, ketchup, relish, mayo, pickles, olives...

you name it, I am there.

But the condiment sammich?
Blurgh....

Ketchup!

I love it on eggs. Yeah, that's right. Ketchup and pepper! biggrin.gif

Oh, absolutely. I have it on eggs too!

In fact, I've been known to make the occasional ketchup and mayo sandwich when I'm too lazy to make a better snack.
