Yeah we will do something in Syd around Xmas time next year!

Praying that my fiancee gets the NOA1 in the mail today. Will make me happy to know that we are in the system and can start the long wait until the NOA2.

We are taking a different route than some of the other couples on here. No civil ceremoney just straight to the wedding. We have tentative dates and we have deposits on things of which they all understand that a date change may be possible and accept our position of not knowing till later (once the process hits sydney we might be able to have a clearer picture on a date). The ceremony it self isnt going to be be over the top as my fiancee and I are both simple people. We have a deposit on a bed and breakfast place with a courtyard for the wedding. A down the road there is the reception hall. Now just hope and pray that the visa is issued within 6 months

MzMo1102: I dont think in all the years I have been on Internet forums that I have ever met someone that lives so close HAHA! When i said penrith I was expecting a reply that you lived on the coast or something

Hey thought I would join this thread as Im a November filer too (fiancee sent the petition in yesterday). Look forward to the ride together with other people from November until the day we are all waiting for (current planned wedding date is June 27 so fingers crossed Im in the USA by then). Which reminds me I must start my timeline. Look forward to hearing everyons's progress over the following months

Brett

Welcome! Don't set any concrete wedding plans until you have visa in hand. You never know if you'll get held up in USCIS, getting an interview date, or if you'll get one of those pesky Administrative Reviews after the interview. You'll probably be fine though, coming from Australia.

Yeah we are both aware that there is going to be a possability of it being delayed. I sure hope not though waiting is going to be pretty hard already!

Thanks Lyndel, you answered my question perfectly :) Yep, I need mine for all that fun military benefit stuff too :) My DF has put in for a couple of extra days leave when we get back to MD to get that stuff done. Good times ahead ;)

And Kath, you answered the reason why some people get the SSN before marriage, of course, some people DO wait till near the end of the 3 months.

Its an interesting issue you bring up with the whole waiting two weeks before getting the SSN thing... two weeks makes it... 26th of July... hmmm. Seems like we'd be cutting it a little fine. Any thoughts? I'm thinking

1) try to get the SSN right after marriage so, not waiting 2 weeks after arrival.
2) If that doesn't work I guess I will send the AOS without the SSN and wait for the RFE that will surely come :)

Guys, any thoughts?

Hey girlfrmoz :) I have a question for you...

Did you wait until after you got married to go get your SSN?

On the flowchart on this site it shows going to get SSN, then getting married then going back to SS office to get name changed. It didn't make sense to me, why can't you wait till after you get married?

Also, do you have to go to the SS agency nearest your residence because we're thinking about going to one in CA.

Thanks!

Congrats Tristessa on getting you Visa!

Congrats Kath on your new job!

Thanks for posting the info on the fees Kath. Tony and I are cutting it fine but I think we'll get our application in before the 30th of July. I'm getting over there on the 12th of July and we'll most likely get married on the 14th or 15th in LA. Now because of the fee hike we're going to post it express post the next day so we don't have to worry. I don't mind too much but its annoying having that added stress. I can't believe how MUCH they're putting up the fees!

Kath, as far as fee scedule goes is it the following only now:

-AOS + biometrics
-Removal of Conditions
-Citizenship OR renewal of greencard?

I kicked up a bit of a fuss over the fee hikes, it doesn't seem fair. I guess you have to pay if you want to stay.

:)

Hope everyone is having a lovely day!

Hey Rings, you know when you go to the store and you sometimes find yourself in the slow line? Where everyone in front has some kind of problem with their credit card, or an item won't scan or something like that? Well, you may have found yourself in the slow line :(

Try not to worry, your NOA2 will come ANY day now. It's bound to! Maybe the case/s right ahead of yours are driving the officer crazy with missing items and things. Which sucks. But how happy will he/she see when they see yours, with everything labelled and all in the right place. :D

Soooo soon, you just have to wait a little tiny bit longer!

Its a "3kg prepaid express post satchel". It costs about $10 to purchase and it doesn't require a stamp because you're paying for the postage when you buy it. Just write your name and address on it and the consulate's address on the return section and you're done. (I used a permanent marker to do this).

Just a quick question...probably a stupid one, but on the DS-156 q18 where it asks for spouse's full name, do I leave it blank cause me and Kev aren't married yet??? As I said, stupid question!!!!

Take care guys!

Hi tris!

On q. 17 you click the box for "Single (Never Married)", or another one if it applies to you.
On q. 18 you write "NONE"

Hint: Anywhere where there isn't an applicable answer, instead of leaving it blank write "NONE" like in q. 14 for National Identification Number you will write "NONE". Why don't you have a look at the example forms on this website if you need some guidance. :)

happy to help :)

Hang in there Rings and Loke! NOA2 will come really soon!

Have you guys started organising your stuff you need for the interview? That could be something to do to take your mind off the waiting.

I think we all know what you're going through, with the post-visit moods and everything! We've all been there. :) Most days are good but some days... I just want my baby :(. But I'm comforted to know that even though its not right now, it WILL happen some time in the future. Same as for you guys. Only a matter of waiting it out.

I like that saying about the rainbow Katrina :)

You know, all this talk of food is making me hungry. I complained about not having salad when I was in the US so a couple of days later Tony came home and said "I'm taking you out for salad". We went out and low and behold, we found ourselves in the greatest salad bar known to man. Well, known to me anyway. Oh how I enjoyed green things that day. And Chili.... I think it might have been Applebee's but maybe not. I can't really remember the name.

I'm trying to tip the scales back in favour of healthy food in America a little... so I won't mention that Tony also got a chocolate brownie LOL.

Hahaha, Tony sent me a video of himself opening one of those canister things. Was it English muffins? From memory thats what was inside the canister in the video.

Tony was trying to explain what it was, without success, hence the video.

CHEESE- When he was just going on about it I was like you think a biscuit is a cookie! I told him our biscuit is close to what you would call a scone and then he was like ohhh it's still weird tho.

He is not a big vegemite eater but he is big on his pumpkin! When he told me he ate a pizza with pumpkin on it I was like   I said you won't find that here.

He also wants to eat pancakes and ice cream for brekky ummm we are still in discussions about that.

MOONIE about the biscuts and gravy thing my australian man doesnt get it either...cuz biscuts are like cookies over there...hmmmm..he's actually mortified by the thought of it...hahaha ...but we've struck a couple of deals in this house..my daughter told him she'll try the vegemite if he'll try peanut butter and jelly together... and i also said i'll try vegemite if he trys the biscuts and gravy..yummo!!!! He of course feels like were getting the better of the deal but im not sure about that...

HAHA Moonie, your post made me laugh so much :) So familiar!

Although, every American I've met hasn't let me call a biscuit a scone. There has only been steadfast refusal to accept the fact that... a biscuit and a scone is pretty much the same thing! And yes, they are very tasty.

Tony thinks its criminal that we don't get biscuits at KFC. In fact, when he was here we went so he could check it out himself. Dinner roll is not a fair substitution for the "wonders that are biscuits".

I love Pumpkin pizza.... Pumpkin, feta cheese and rosemary right? ooooh sooo good. And when I told Tony about it I got exactly the same reaction that you just gave :)

I'm looking forward to revisiting my old addiction... Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Chunk Cookies..... *dribble*
uh... I mean... exercising. :innocent:

Hee hee hee I comiserate with all this talk of food.... Why does the junk food in the US have to be so easy, cheap and delicious!? My eating habits are irratic at best. I'm trying to lose some weight before I get over there (not much success to be honest). Hubster-to-be eats anything he wants and he still looks great... being in the Navy helps with that... I've warned him that if I eat like him when I get over there I'll be as big as a house before the end of the year! At least I have access to the gym over there so, theoretically I have no excuse not to work out.... I'll have to work out to work off those delectable peanut butter cups.... *dribble*.

So you can get pumpkins over there? What about butternut pumpkin (squash)? Whats the pumpkin situation like? Has canned pumpkin got added sugar?

Hi tristessa, plenty of post office people know exactly how to do it, I suggest go see a different person if possible and they'll hook you up. Thats probably the easiest way. Don't let them give you a postal order or anything funny like that.

Just for reference, Kaths post might be on page 99 (instead of 42) depending on how many posts per page you're set on. For me its on page 99 anyway. Post #1477 if you're still stuck. It was helpful for me when I did it. (THANKS again Kath!)

Yep, they ask you to pay the $130 at your local post office who will give you a receipt to attach to the front of your passport. They'll also ask you to bring along a "3kg Express Post Sachel" so they can mail you your visa and things the next day (or you could drop in in person to pick it up following business day if you prefer).

Don't worry about these two things yet though. You'll hear about this in the last letter they send you when they give you your interview appointment. In that letter they'll also tell you the order they want you to put everything in. You won't hear about them in packet 3 (which you'll be getting SOON (yay!)).

Good news Sharyna! :) Its $130.

Although, we keep shelling out down the line when we get to the US for AOS and everything, but to answer your question, you'll be paying $130.

Meanwhile...

I agree with everything that has been said about relationships and enjoying youth and so on. I am young (21) but I feel very strongly that I'm over the first phase of my life. I've always been "mature for my age" to quote everyone who has ever known me. Fortunately (and vitally, I believe) Tony and I are both in the same place of our lives, we're both much happier staying in, or going out for a quiet dinner and a movie.

If I still felt the need to go out with my girlfriends and go drinking and clubbing I would probably be thinking about whether I was making the right decision. I've had a couple of relationships before Tony and I've had more than my fair share of crazy nights out (Uh, contiki vet here). I know I'm ready for the next stage of my life and I have no regrets about leaving that part of life behind. I have PLENTY of friends who are definately not ready to do that though and thats okay too. Bascially, its up to the individual to decide whether they're ready or not. Its not a certain age, or certain place in life, its about being true to yourself and your own happiness. I know for certain that two years ago I was a completely different person to the one I am now. My hope and belief is (as everyones is) that Tony and I, when we come together will be able to grow together as well.

Hee hee hee thank you very much :)

I read your post (the bit for me) and though "Wow, how does she know? How clever!" Then I scrolled up and realised, hmm, oh yeah, I admitted it right there! Spot the loser ;) (me). I'm fine, I'm just fighting the urge to jump on a plane, now that I've got my visa squared away! I don't think I've ever resented my commitment to tertiary education more than I do now. Gah!

You make a really going point for Lynn to think about too :)

Hey Lynn, well done for staying true to yourself.

Its disappointing for the both of you that you've had to cancel at this late stage, but you're both much better off for it. If its not right, its not right. You need to spend more time on the relationship and figuring things out, you never know, maybe in a few years you'll feel ready. My love to you and Corey.

Just because you're saying no to marriage make sure that you're not saying no to Corey if thats really the way you feel. You guys are gonna have to work really hard for the relationship in the short term since there are gonna be a lot of confused and hurt feelings. If I were in your shoes, I'd start planning a temporary stay together, hit up that tourist visa or visa waiver (is visa waiver still an option?) for as soon as possible so you can spend some real together time getting things back on track.

Again, all my love. *hugs*

rang the police station... most funny..... they told me to ring 10 minutes before i arrived so that they could tell me if they had someone in custody or not..... i thought it was funny..... but obviously its "dangerous" having someone go in for fingerprints and they have someone in custody......

Same thing for me Sharyna... only trouble is, I called 3 times and all 3 times they DID have someone in custody. The third time I got fed up and said "Is there ANY other way I can do this?" and they said "actually, you can book on Sundays". I guess there isn't much crime on Sundays ;) ;). But anyway, thats what I ended up doing, I booked for 4PM the following Sunday and thats when I turned up and had the prints done. Easy. Don't forget the form and the fee, which has to be in cash. I thought it was so cool that my local police station was back in the dark ages with one of those old school receipt books. Thats why its cash only, everything has to be hand-done. So quaint!

Getting vaccinated by your regular doctor will be cheaper too...

Also, the national police certificate is valid for 12 months you guys will be happy to hear.

Additionally, the Hep vaccinations are NOT neccessary for the medical, but hey, they're still a good idea. I've had my first one.

I'm sorry its taking so long to get your NOA2 buddy :( It shouldn't be long now, like you said, people that filed at similar times to you are starting to get theres. Take heart, this too will pass.

Have you begun to get anything together like police certificate or vaccination history or affidavit of support in preparation? If not, you could always start those processes to get your mind off your delayed NOA2.

THANKS!!! Sharyna, Hampster, patriciaofoz, jltan100, Rings, meowgirl and of course thanks Kath. Thanks for your well wishes and all your support and helpful advice guys. It’s very much appreciated :)

My consulate review is up. It’s too long (and dare I say boring) to post here, so if you’re interested head over to the review page to check it out. I have to say my experience was a 5 out of 5 experience. It was pretty quick and all the people I met from the security guys on level 10 all the way through to my interviewee were very friendly and approachable and not intimidating at all.

After I posted up my review I remembered a few more questions that she asked me, including “When do we plan to get married?” which I think was the first question and a couple more questions about wedding plans and dates. I had to say that we planned to get married pretty much straight away after I get to the US but that no dates are set in stone yet since we were told not to make plans until after the interview. Also the fact that his family is really keen for us to do a ceremony in his hometown which wasn’t the initial plan, since we were going to come back to Australia for a reception at a later date. (I’m pretty sure I babbled all of this to the interviewer too.)

Thats really great Jess!! :) CONGRATULATIONS!! :)

I take it you didn't need the 2nd Affidavit of Support?

Where abouts in USA are you heading to?

Hi! I’m heading to Maryland I July, you can find our place in space on the Aussies map to see exactly where in Maryland home is.

As for your question about a second Affidavit of Support… nope, I only needed the one I-134 along with its supporting documentation. Maybe I confused you because a couple of weeks ago I was saying that I was waiting for Tony to send me his notorized tax print out as the last thing I needed for the interview. He had already sent me the I-134, employment record and tax print out but he only had the first two notorized so he had to send it again to me after getting it notorized.

whooo hooooo jess congrats to you on a succesful interview..dont forget to put in your interview review mate..
are you going back tomorrow for it or getting it posted ...did they ask you if you had a choice?
was expecting alot more details jess lol stir stir

Thanks Kath! I hope you enjoy my interview review :D Since it was on Friday I wouldn’t be able to go back for it till Monday anyway. For me, getting it posted to me is easier than trekking all the way back into the city (I live about an hour and a half+ by public transport outside the city centre). They told me it’d be sent on Monday or Tuesday so I guess I’m expecting it Tuesday or Wednesday. (I’m a little excited)
I did have a choice and could have picked it up if I wanted, but since I had my big yellow satchel there it was obvious that I wanted it posted. My interviewee handed me a slip of paper at the end called “Instructions for receiving your immigrant visa”. It says “You have two options for receiving your visa” and outlines the via mail option (including instructions on where to purchase a satchel and who to give it to when you return if you didn’t bring one with you). The second option was to come back the following business day between 3.30 and 4.00 to come in and pick it up in person. My interviewee had ticked the box next to via mail.

Oh, and expect A LOT of details in my interview review Kath! You will NOT be disappointed ;) stir. ;)

Good luck Paul! I’m so excited for you! Enjoy your reunion with your wife! You deserve it after all this time! Wishing you a safe journey and a smooth POE and adjustment to the great land Up Over!

Good luck to you guys too Rings and Loke. Have an awesome time together you guys and savour ever moment. I know you will! :) And if I didn’t know it already… Rings… thanks for posting and making it clear for us all ;) :D jk, it was awesome. Have a great time!
