CanadaError on Visa
Thats a tough one. I'm so sorry :(

But you guys are legit so....

Actually, I'm not going to offer any advice, but what would have happened if you didn't notice the mistake, you would have just gone without even realising the error since you assume all the info is correct right?

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAustralian Police Check
Just wanted to share my Police Check experience. I am an NSW resident and here is how it went...

Made an appointment at the local cop shop and was schelduled for a Sunday but was texted and told it was cancelled so they told me I had the option to go to one of my other local stations which is notorious for being well... bad. I was told it was open 24 hours and I didn't need to make an appointment so off I went. Oh, I was also told if someone was in custody I wouldn't be able have them done... weird, I was wondering why. I crossed my fingers and hoped everyone was being well behaved

All I brought with me was my completed P800 form, $175 and 3 forms of ID (DL, Passport & Medicare).

When I got there I was brought into the back where they took my digital fingerprints, palm prints, and side palm prints. The policeman said I was very polite as he squashed my hands against the machine (he is probably not used to someone cooperating whilst taking them :innocent: ). Anyway, the fingerprint machine was in the cell holding area so that's why they couldn't have taken them if someone was in custody.

Copper said I should get it back within about 3 weeks but if I wanted to check the status to call the Parramatta Criminal Records dept.

It was extremely quick and I feel that my $175 also included a behind the scenes look of a quite notorious police station haha. Also, while I was there someone had reported an assault, two people reported threats to their lives and another needed help evicting an abusive tenant. So all in all it was a good day (for me).

Relieved to get that sorted out. Now on to the Medical!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAustralian Police Check

Wondering how you went with your police check? I am starting to look at what I will need for the next stage now, and the only information I have found otherwise is here: http://canberra.usem...olice_cert.html

That page links to this form: http://www.police.ns.../15134/P800.pdf

Did you manage to get the check done while you wait like lynJer suggested also? I am new to Sydney too, any idea where the watchhouse is like lynJer suggested?

Hi Wayne/Rachel,

Since I live in Sydney, I have booked to have my check/prints done at my local police station. Call to make an appointment - my station only does this on sundays. Not sure where the Watchhouse is but Lynjer is from Brissie! I'm almost certain this can be done at your local cop shop anyway.

All you need is the P800 form and the fee of $175. You will then receive the cert in the mail in a couple of weeks. You can have it sent directly to you (as indicated by Barbara J) rather than have them send it directly to the US EM (where it will most probably get lost). It also lasts for a year!

I'm going to have mine done on sunday so I'll post back to let you know how it goes :)

All the best!

Thank you all for the feedback.

Yes you can our police reports are valid for 1 year in Australia, if you go and get it done end of this month it is valid till next January. And if you are in Sydney it takes 4 weeks for them to return it to you in the mail. Just go to your local police station oh ring first and make an appointment too. I had all this done before my NOA2 and packet 3 arrived so then all I had to do was send it in the day I got it all. When your case is approved at USCIS it will then go to NVC to be allotted a case number then it is forwarded to Sydney. Approx 2 weeks your US petitioner will get an email of packet 3 and send on to you then you print out all the info and gather your documents to send back in then you will be notified of your interview date. Hope this helps.

@barbarajlw - So are you saying there is an option to have it mailed directly to me rather than to the US Cons. - or is this something that cannot be negotiated? I called up my local police station and they really didn't know much about anything. I cannot imagine another 4 weeks wait after NOA2 just for the police clearance!

Thanks again :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAustralian Police Check
Can I go ahead and get my police clearance before NOA2 is received?

I live in NSW and the embassy website says that it is forwarded straight to the US Consulate - since they (US Cons.) would not have received any of my information yet is this going to be a problem?

Just want to get ahead on all the forms that are required for the interview.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam Question
This is taken from http://travel.state....pes_2994.html#7

K visa applicants are encouraged to get the vaccinations required under U.S. immigration law for immigrant visa applicants. Although such vaccinations are not required for K visa issuance, they will be required when adjusting status to that of legal permanent resident following your marriage. Applicants are therefore encouraged to fulfill these vaccination requirements at the time of the medical examination. See Vaccination Requirements for IV Applicants for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.

You can have them done before the medical. If it's difficult to locate your fiance's records, then have a blood test (serological) to determine their immunity.

I could not find all of my immunisations records so I had one today. Very simple, cost me next to nothing and any immunisations I need to have will be much cheaper then getting them once I get to the States.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I also did not know where to start with tracking down my immunisation records since I grew up here and in the UK. I just had a serology test which you can do on medicare. Much less stress and paperwork :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFees for when NOA2 arrives?
Sorry to hijack but in terms of what is being paid to the embassy...

Application (MRV) Fee - $350 USD
Visa issuance fee - ???? I cannot find this information on the embassy website, there is only information for non-immi visa types.

For me,

Police Check in NSW - $175

Medical (with Dr Millar in Sydney) - $338 in total
- $31 (Serology)
- $65 (Chest X-Ray)
- $242 (American Visa Examination)
I already had my immunisations ahead of time and think I had to pay about $35 for the Tdap jab.

Hope this helps x

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWedding date!
Wedding date: We will also have a civil ceremony as soon as I arrive which will hopefully be end of March 2011 fingers crossed.

Why that date? because I want to be working and be settled before we celebrate with our family and friends. I also need to file AOS & have EAD asap since I will be starting a job in June!

129-F Send: Oct 2010

Positive that you're going to make that date with these service centers going so slow: If my obsessive calculations amount to anything then YES!

Thank you for such a refreshing thread!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat to do?!
You can have a fabulous wedding for $3500! See http://www.greenweddingshoes.com for some amazing crafty ideas for weddings or I googled weddings on a budget and this came up... http://bridesknowbes...-their-friends/

Another option is just the civil ceremony followed by the big celebration later. This is what myself and my fiance will be doing.

IMHO it is ridiculous spending thousands and thousands of dollars on one single day - I've been to many weddings and I don't remember much of what goes on, but I always remember how in love the couple looked! In our case anyway, we feel that the money would be better spent on our first home or long extended honeymoon :innocent:

Hope everything works out for you both and good luck!

You might get lucky and be able to retrieve them! When I was in Manila a few months ago my laptop crashed on me. I took it to Sta Lucia and for P1200 had it fixed :) data and all.

There are also other options...

We don't have any chat logs, but then again I think we are probably going through an easier embassy than Manila.

We have phone bills and many emails - I was just going to take a screen shot of my inbox with those exchanges and print out a few emails.

If you both communicate through facebook then there is a new function called "See Friendship" - it's also an idea to take screenshots from this.

Hope it works out for you. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCheapest One Way Ticket from Manila to US
kayak.com is a great website for deals anywhere around the world.

Try looking for return tickets too because most of the time they tend to be cheaper than buying one way! When you get to the States just call to cancel the return trip, depending on the airline/website you purchase you may be able to use part of the cost as credit as I had done a while ago.

Also, if you find a good cheap deal on any website like kayak / travelocity / expedia / etc - cross check the actual airlines websites as they sometimes offer them cheaper if you buy directly from them.

Hope this helps.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsQuick NOA-2
I haven't read or heard of anyone having an NOA 2 quicker than 5 months in the past couple of months. It seems that lately NOA2's have been approved closer to the 6 months mark - this goes for both service centres.

The only 'quick' approvals would have been expedites which there have been a few of and some whose beneficiaries are from Haiti/Dominican Republic.

If approvals are going at the same rate then you should expect yours around July/Aug.

Good luck with the process :)

Early October filer here and also waiting - if you are at VSC you should expect up to 6 months waiting time. CSC seems to be slightly closer to 5 months waiting.

There is plenty to do whilst waiting anyway - lots to prepare for when you do get your NOA2.

Good Luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportshow do you guys stay in contact with your significant other?

Skype! And Skype mobile :)

Also, GMAIL calls are free to any number in the US, so I use that to call Tim alot :)

I just discovered that you can call US phones for free on GMAIL the other day! I have wasted so much on purchasing skype credit!

I also find that the quality of video/voice calls is much better through gmail then skype.

You can also download an iphone app called 'Talkatone' to log into your gmail account and use 3G for free calls to any US phone! I have seriously saved hundreds of dollars a month - wish I knew earlier!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWorried?!?!

Hi guys new to the forum!! I'm in England an my fiancé is in the states. We nearly completed the I-195f packet an we think it will be sent in over the next week or so. Problem.... Every site I look on gives me a different time period for how ling this actually takes from start to finish!! We've actually booked a small wedding for nov 8th as that's my birthday. It's no problem to change the date for that but obviously my parents want to book flights.... Any ideas for English people how long I'm looking at?? Or how far into the process I'll get an idea of completion dates so they can book flights???

Thank you soooo much

Emma xxx

At the moment depending on what service centre your application will be routed to - your petition could be approved between 3 weeks to 9 months  . Over the past couple of weeks some February filers have already been approved - some from august 2010 are still awaiting approval. If I have learned anything from this process it is that there is no rhyme or reason for anything USCIS do. I am now over the 5 month 'processing time' that is listed for the California Service Centre. Alot that have filed a week after me have already been approved.

I think it's best not to make any solid plans - who knows when you will be approved. Even if it takes 5 months to approve the petition there will be another wait for your medical/interview.

Good luck - get the package away ASAP.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDS 230 part 1.. I'm already confused!

Hi everyone,

We received package three yesterday from the embassy in Dublin, I'm filling out the DS 230 Biographic data and I need some help.

question 14 says spouses maiden name or family name, then occupation etc.. do I fill this information out for my fiance? the word 'spouse' is throwing me because I thought a spouse was a husband.. and this is a fiance visa! and then it asks for marriage dates. So i'm very confused. it also says in question 31 to name the people from question 14 who will be accompanying you to the US. I know usually the fiance is already in the states, but in my case my fiance (USC) will be travelling with me as we have bnith been livng in Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The DS230 is used for some other visa types thats why it asks Q14.

If you are applying for a K-1 then you do not have a spouse, put 'NONE'.

I'm pretty sure Q31 refers to people like your children (if any) who will be applying to immigrate with the US with you. You're fiance is already a USC, you don't put his name there.

There are sample forms available here on VJ that helped me a lot :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober 2010 CSC filers!
It sure has been quiet around here! Looks like everyone is almost ready to fly over to the US!

Just to share a problem I encountered with my medical. Make sure your immunizations are complete - so you can eliminate the need to see a civil surgeon once you get over here. I had a huge headache when I found out mine was 'incompete - blanket waiver' and the panel physician in Sydney had marked 'insufficient time interval' under one of the immunizations by mistake. Better yet make sure you have a copy of your entire medical from your home country as I've read quite a bit about USCIS 'losing' medical files and issuing RFE's to have another medical. Ugh. Finding a helpful Civil Surgeon is a nightmare so try and avoid seeing one altogether!

Anyway, our journeys will almost be over and we won't have to deal with USCIS for at least another 2 years! Hope all are well!

Thanks everybody! Good things do come to those who wait (and whine a bunch).

Once we hit our 150 days, my fiance contacted his congresswoman and senator. He heard back from the congresswoman's office, but no response from senator up to now.

The CW office told him she would contact USCIS on his behalf and it could take up to 10 days, but we have since got the NOA2 so who cares.

It seems now that everything is happening in fast motion... Aussies are allowed to complete the police cert and medical in advance so I already have that sorted! Super excited and nervous about what is to come.

Just want to extend our well wishes to all other couples waiting for NOA2 - if people give you sh!t about whining, please whine to me - I will listen. It is such an awful ordeal and one I will not be forgetting any time soon. VJ has been such a great source of information that has saved us time and money so thanks to you lot for that too :)
