No need to purchase the ticket.
US Embassy strongly recommend not to buy the ticket.

It may be confused with fiancee's travel record.
Some officer may ask travel records for soon-to-be or current spouse to visit them in Thailand showing boarding pass or immigration stamp from the passport.

So it is not the ticket for future travel.
Sometimes because of Administrative Processing, and/or computer system/network issue, visa issurance can be delayed.

I don't know about the airline in Thailand.
If you want to purchase one-way ticket to U.S., usually there is special discount for immigration, which may show the immigration visa during check-in.

Better be there.
It is up to consular officer whether he/she want to see the US citizen to verify the relationship.
But if he/she decide to see the spouse, and you are not there, it may delay the approval and/or deny the case.
Given the high risk, you better be there for just in case.

Basically that means several things.

Either somebody pulled out your file and looked at it, or somebody moved the file to other locations...
For any reason, if somebody "touch" it, you will see the data changed from online system.

Sometimes it means something, and other times, it means nothing.

It should be o.k. 90 days period he was talking about is only for VISA interview at US Embassy, I think.
Medical Exam itself is valid for 1 year.
You should take Medical Exam within 90 days period from Immigration Visa Interview.
Then Consular Officer will put every documents including Medical Exam Result in mysterious brown envelope (MBE) with immigration visa stapled.
You have 6 months validity given for immigration visa to come to U.S.
Then you have 90 days to file AOS after POE.

So you don't have to worry about medical exam expiry for POE at all.

SamFam will be first to take civic test after October 1, 2008, so it's curious to see what he/she is going through.
We know that USCIS should give the choice for old OR new test for Interviewee.
Otherwise it will be quiet until the end of October.
I hope rest of us, who didn't receive Interview Letter yet, will receive it soon.

Best bet to know your case status will be interview officer since she has all the information.
When I had my interview, I brought all information as much as possible.
So it was full of dupel bag, so district office security guy made a joke such as if he put it in the kitchen, it may sink.
But what the heck!
I thought it will be better to have over-prepared than hearing "sorry" from interivew officer.
Luckily interview officer may be tired or sick of paperwork, so he didn't ask any further information at all.
Once again, I wish best luck for you.

I will leave yours as-is with the hope that I can hear good news from you with "Approval", so I can revisit yours with approval news.

mine didn't go so smooth unfortunately. it has always been like this. I don't know the outcome yet. she didnt find the papers i brought enough and asked for more information. I am sure she approved the stuff yesterday after she got the papers so I am waiting for an oath letter. But it may be a rejected letter which is gonna suck that i ll have to appeal and bla bla. I dont know next step right now and other than that questions were same civic questions which were easy.

So that is it for now. If i hear any updates, I will let you know. Is there any other way that I can learn the outcome of the interview other than contacting her? I mean website is never updated or phone line, so??

I changed my interview date font color to black since it was done.
This morning I went to Milwaukee downtown a little bit earilier, but when I got USCIS district office building, I couldn't find the parking space, so I spent 20 min to find the spot.
Then I left all my cellphone and other things in the car, and brought the bag of all the paperwork and evidence just in case.
I got into the building around 10:30am, and security guy made joke about that.
He said he put that bag in the kitchen, then table will be sunken.
So I said it is better to be prepared than to be heard sorry from interview officer.
When I went up to 2nd floor, there was around 7 teams.
Some people - one or two - came alone, but most of people came with family.
I dropped my interview appointment letter to drop box.
Then stopped by rest room and took some break.
It seemed that in most case, it was done in 10~20 min.
Around 11:03am, interview officer called my last name, so I stood up, and walked into the door.
When I got into the room, interview officer asked to swear usual thing.
"Tell the truth, and nothing but the truth... "
So I said, "Yes, I do".
Then he sat down, and asked me for driver license, green card, and passport.
So I passed mine.
When I sent the N400, I just checked N400 instructions, not M-476.
So what I sent was N400 form plus additional explanation for traffic ticket, and personal check for processing fee.

But he didn't care about it, and he started to ask Civic questions.

I got following questions.

- What do the starts on the flag mean?
- How many states are there in the Union?
- Who was the first president of the United States?
- Who is the Vice President of the United States today?
- How many Senators are there in Congress?
- What is the United States Capital?

Then he stopped the Civic questions, and asked me to write down what he is saying.

"She cooks for her friend!"

I asked whether it is friends or friend.

Then he wrote down following statements, and asked me to read it.

"I go to work every day."

Then he checked my IDs, and asked the questions from N400.

My name
My address
My DOB
My phone number

Then asked whether I would like to change my name.
I asked whether it delays the processing or not.
He said it doesn't, so I said I will change my name since everybody has trouble to pronounce my name correctly.

Then he asked me how many I have been married, so I gave the answer.
Then he asked my current wife name.

After this, he asked me for divorce decree and marriage certificate, so I gave certified divorce decree and copy pf marriage certificate.
He didn't care whether it is certified or not.

Then he asked me for current employer, and when my last trip was.

Then he asked the question for my membership and terrist things.

When he asked for citation, I mentioned that I only had traffic tickets.
He asked whether I have any DUI or alcohol related one.
I said no.

Then he confirmed for oath information.

Finally he asked to sign the N400 and other form.

After this, he asked me for photo, so I passed the passport photo since I didn't include it from application.
Also I passed the copy of my green card, and he said if you have copy, I will take it. ^^

Then he got a phone call from co-worker, and it seems that I'm the last person for his morning session.

I guess he was hungry, and wanted to finish morning session ASAP.

He gave me the paper saying I was passed and recommended for approval.
But because next month oath ceremony was already filled, I have to wait for next one.
So he said I will receive oath letter within 4 months.

When I got out from the room, the clock said 11:13am.

He must be very hungry to finish my interview ASAP, so he can go for lunch.
Or he saw my bag, which was full of documentation and evidence, and didn't want to bother with those.

He didn't even go through all the question from N400.
I think actual interview was done in 5 min.
another 5 min was spent for talking over the phone with his co-worker. ^^

I went to Varick Street today in NYC to get my fingerprints done. I was searched on the way in by the guy with the gun!
I was surprised at how few people were actually there - only about ten in total including one guy with no ID - poor guy couldn't speak English and was trying to use his birth certificate from South Korea.

Anyway - I was number 278 - got called after about 20 mins. The guy barely spoke to me - just took my prints on the computer - full hand first and then all ten prints individually. The process was over in ten minutes. I got the feeling that it's a serious business!

Now the waiting begins! I don't expect there will be any news until at least Christmas seeing as I am dealing with NYC DO and Vermont.

I think a lot of people already mentioned about this.
USCIS doesn't update CRIS (USCIS Case Online Query System) info for N400 case.
It will stay as "Pending" forever, and it may be disappeared after interview.
In my case, online status never changed either.

Don't be disappointed so early.
Right now USCIS is trying to shorten N400 processing time, so they are hiring new people and put more resource for N400 processing.
Even they allow overtime and weekend interview to facilitate N400 processing time to reduce overall N400 processing within 12 months.
You know NYC is always busy and you should be used with standing in long wait line. ^^
I think more concern should be put on your FBI namecheck process.
They are talking about less than 10% of people caught in FBI namecheck process for additional investigation.
But if you are one of unfortunate 10%, it's going to be 100% delay for you.
Some people are waiting for a couple of years - as far as I heard, longest case was 4 years - to pass FBI namecheck process.
So just assume that 540 days number means worst case, and now you can expect only better for yourself. ^^

If you move to out of nowhere, probably you don't have many of people in front of you. ^^
So it is not lucky. It is one of perk from the fact when you live in rural area.
But I think we may see much faster response from USCIS.
Chief of USCIS appeared in LA a couple of days ago, and he mentioned that processing time for LA can be shortened from 12 months to 6 months, and they hired 86 more people for interview process.
I don't know whether we can trust 100% or not.
But at least they are moving to improve processing time.
Also, USCIS made agreement with FBI to make 98% of name check request done within 30 days, and rest 2% within 90 days. I think they are expecting that agreement archieved by middle of next year.

Oooops! Should I mention that USCIS have been hiding some ghost, so some files are misteriously disappeared in the middle, and appeared later when they decided to do? Sometimes misplaced files were recovered from waste dumpster.
So you may want to keep every copy/original files plus tracking record - return receipt, and/or tracking screen from USPS, FEDEX, DHL, or whomevery you used for shipping - with yourself. Include, but not limited to, canceled check copy.

Nobody knows.
It depends on which DO your case is belonging to.
You can check USCIS' data from April, 2008.

A couple of days ago, USCIS said they will target for 6 month processing time for California, and 12 months for rest of places.
Processing time is the period it will take from N400 application to initial interview.

But it may be dependent on your indivisual case progress such as fingerprint work, FBI namecheck process, and/or your indivisual case status whether it requires RFE (Request For Evidence) or not.

So it usually take 2~4 months for your intial interview date from fingerprint date, but that's "usually".
You may learn it quickly, but as everybody says, USCIS business is always unpredictable.
You can not hold your breath until the last minute when you take your oath.
Even after oath ceremony taken, USCIS can catch you later and revoke your citizenship when you lie about your citizenship application in theory. ^^

The number is (304)625-2000, (but direct line is (304)625-5590 )
You can try direct line first.
If you stick with naturalization & immigration route, you have option to speak with customer representative.
Customer representative will ask A#, then tell you when it was sent back to USCIS.
Usually the result will be returned to USCIS same day.

Don't feel so bad about processing period.
It will be deeply depending on how your FBI namecheck will turn out eventually.

I called FBI fingerprint help desk, and verified my fingerprint result sent back to USCIS on 07/24/2008, same day my fingerprint was taken. ^^
I expected long hold time, but it wasn't.

I knew about it, but that doesn't mean that same officer will work 7 days per week.
Individual case will be assign to each officer, and he/she will handle the case by himself/herself, right?
Besides, I don't think USCIS update their computer system to reflect those processing time to include weekend and holidays.
But I will see it when my interview letter and oath letter comes.
Today I did stop by USCIS milwaukee DO to complete my fingerprint thing.

Probably I have to watch mail box from next week until I get Oath ceremony notification letter.
