So I had my interview today - it was a bit of a disappointment. I went to the Federal Plaza building - arriving there about 30 minutes before my scheduled time. The waiting room was full - though the person collecting the interview appointment letters did give everyone a separate letter saying you should expect delays. 2-3 hours past your scheduled time is about average.
I was called in about 2 hours past my scheduled time. The officer walked me over to his office and swore me in. I had traveled outside the US since submitting my application so I gave him an updated set of sheets. We also went over my middle name - it's on some of my legal documents, and not on others. So we agreed that he would include it in. Then, he administered the history and language test - all pretty straightforward, straight from the list.
After that, we went over the form together. At the point where we came to "arrested, cited, detained" I had answered yes because I had a couple of traffic tickets. I had the final original court dispositions with me which he took. Then, we went over the rest of the form - me confirming the answers I had put down on the form.
Finally, we finished with the form and other paperwork. He said he didn't need me to finish up his work - he could do it after I had left.
But, when he gave me final letter, it said "A decision cannot be made at this point..." I asked if there was something wrong with the application. He said no - I had passed the test etc., he just needed to go over my file. He said I should hear back from them usually pretty soon, though they had 120 days to respond.

Hope this helps. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I be concerned?


I wouldn't worry much about it.
Sometimes adjudicator - interview officer - is new, so he/she wants to go over with supervisor for all misc things.
If he didn't mention much about negative things, it will be fine.
As I read your story, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
USCIS hired new adjudicator to facilitate N400 interview, so there are a lot of new USCIS employees out there.

USCIS have internal procedure, and rules, but it is done by people.
People have tendency to interprete the rules and procedures for their own convenience. whistling.gif

It seems that he just want to cover his AXX. devil.gif

I had more than 3 traffic tickets, but my interview officer didn't care about speed tickets and/or parking tickets.

It may be just NYC things.
Usually government officers from large city have tendency about unfriendly attitude. whistling.gif

I think this was reported a couple of times.
Some did this, but not all of them.

They can spot whatever they like to make people miserable. mad.gif

In general, it is recommended to go together for couples because at least it will be helpful for moral support.
Also carry all documentations as much as you can carry.

I carried all my immigration documents for last 10 years, and security guy joked me around for it.
He told me that if he put my duffel bag on kitchen table, it will be sunken.

But I don't want to have any chance that USCIS employee find execuse to make my life difficult.
It may help for interview officer not to ask further questions for well-prepared or over-prepared person not to waste the time. whistling.gif

Hi FVA, don't forget to request Passport Card.
Since we had been carrying Green Card for so long, I felt not secure if I don't carry anything. whistling.gif
For slot my old green card occupied, I had passport card, and filled the empty slot with passport card. devil.gif

Today I received my passport from Dept of State.
I did send my Passport application on 10/30, and received US passport today - 11/8 - via USPS priority mail.
It came alone, so I have to wait for the certificate and passport card.
Probably both will be showed up sometime next week.

I just sent the passport application as routine service.
But I used travel.state.gov website to enter my passport application info, and printed passport application form (DS-11?) with bar code.

Be careful!
As soon as you take the oath, you have to use US passport.
In that case, if you take the oath on 10th, you should visit Passport Application Center to facilitate your US passport.

I've got my certificate of Naturalization. ^^
I was on business trip until yesterday, and I drove almost 10 hours to come back home for this ceremony.

I took a couple of hours sleeping.
Then I woke up around 04:40am... wacko.gif
I spent some time for relaxation, then left around 07:00am for Milwaukee Downtown.

I got there around 07:40am, and found nice street parking space for 2 hours.
I was wondering whether it is o.k. to park here or not.

Then I decided what the heck...

I saw quite a lot of people walking around the street for same direction.
Hmmm....
I couldn't find many people from VJ, and where the heck of these people was on cyberspace?
Waiting line for security checkpoint was long.
In chilled weather, they should let the family with kids go first, but they didn't.

Since I left my all belongings to my car, I couldn't check the time precisely, but I passed security checkpoint around 8:20am.
My letter said 08:00am.

But usually there are lines for people.

I went up to second floor, and I found that they are using waiting area for Oath Ceremony.

The lady who passed me a pen said that she couldn't track the day because they are doing oath ceremony day after day.

What I heard was that Milwaukee DO is doing oath ceremony once or twice per month.
It must be some pressure that they pushed oath ceremony early so people can go for voting.


They started the ceremony a little bit after 09:00am.
I had one speed ticket after interview, and it wasn't a problem with paid receipt.

Actually there was no judge presented at all.
I was surprised about that.

About 80 people was under oath for naturalization.

Designated officer for oath ceremony called indivisual's name one by one, and it took some time.
Show two movies including Mr. George Bush's welcoming address.
Listened two songs - Star Spangled Banner and "God Bless America".

The Director of Milwaukee Field Office did oath part instead of Court Judge.

It ended around 09:40am....

When I got back to my car, I couldn't find parking violation ticket, so it may be lucky day. whistling.gif


Then I went to my townhall of township for voter registration.
They were confusing because it is not common to see "certificate of naturalization".
Finally found someone who knew what it was.
After confirming my new citizenship, it went smooth.
Actually they did let me do "early voting", so I don't have to be in line for Nov 4 morning.

Then I went to Social Security Office to update my status and change my name to new one.
The lady from the window seemed not pleasant.
But the job was done.

After this, I went to DMV to change my name from driver license.
The lady had no idea how to proceed, but she got some advise from co-worker.

I guess I have to stop by Post Office to request US passport.

It seems that they change the location from court house to USCIS district office, but keeping same date/time.

For your question, I brought everything with me.
So it was full of duppel bag.
Even Security Officer joked on me for that.
If he put it on the kitchen, the table will be sunken. ^^
But I didn't care.
I didn't want to give another excuse for Adjudicator - interview officer - to delay my N400 process again.
So interview officer only asked for my permanent resident card copy, the divorce decree, which I didn't send with my original N400 application.
He didn't notice that it was not there. ^^
So I pointed out and passed the paperwork.

Here is the documents you want to bring for Interview just in case.

But it's up to you.

Most of items may not be asked by interview officer at all.
But if interview officer decide to ask something, you don't want to give him/her another execuse for saying "next time" because of this and that.

Pass the appropriate amount of document to interview officer, but you should be better over-prepared than getting another "sorry, I can not make the decision at this time. See you next time with more information."

You don't have to send ORIGINAL.
All they ask for is the copy of document.
Then when you go to Interview, you can bring original just in case.
But usually they are o.k. with the copy.
If it is doubtful, they are o.k. to check for original, then you can keep the original.
I know how it is painful to get English translated certified one through the ministry of Foreign Affair.

Probably for most of people, but I'm starting to worry about 5 , who doesn't receive the Interview schedule letter, yet.
NYCGAL may receive it for christmas gift since NYC is known place for slow processing because they have a lot of immigrated people.
NYC is melting pot, and most exciting place for themselve incluing, but not limited to, villeage and other SOHO areas. ^^

St. Paul is the area for slow processing, too.

I added asiz2002 interview date to the list.
Also, I'm updating my Oath date. whistling.gif
When I came home today, I got the letter from USCIS.
Apparently Milwaukee Court scheduled another oath ceremony.
When I called them 10 days ago, they said they have October 23 and 24.
I guess because of election, they scheduled another one for me.
So I can vote for this election. kicking.gif



Notes: 1) Sorted based on "Sent" date
2) Use coloring method.
Red color fonts from Interview is waiting for interview, and black color means whether it is done, and/or approved.
3) Do NOT change the font from Lucida Console to something else. It may BREAK the format.
4) "??/??" in Oath date means that it is appoved, but don't have date yet.
5) After USCIS Office, if you see jest.gif , it means that he/she got the certificate of naturalization, which means "ALL DONE".

I got Certificate n they did oath ceremony in downtown chicago Federal court not my area court . They took my GC and said to sign full name (first & last) in certificate not just first or initials . In that court 145 people available for getting certificate .

Today is the last day to register for vote . I registered myself .

We don't want nasty, and rude USCIS officers because they couldn't take their vacations, right? ^^

I don't know how St. Louis DO schedule for Oath ceremony looks like.
I hope that after interview approved, you can get oath ceremony done before the end of this year, so that could be your christmas present. ^^
