K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGot denied on my interview b'coz of not having my decision yet at the court from my previous marriage
What I want to know is, why do so many posters in this thread care so passionately about the intentof the OP? Some here seem to be absolutely delighted that they have 'discovered' this lie, as if somehow it's going to positively affect their lives. It's not. I am quite sure the person at the embassy who denied this petition didn't do so with this sense of glee, I am sure they denied the petition with compassion. There are genuine feelings involved, real people.

I agree that it is right and proper to advise that what this couple did was wrong and 'could' result in a life time ban - as a warning to other people and as an advisory for the OP BUT personally I feel sorry for this couple and I hope they do try again. If I were them I would let USICS decide if what happened deserves a life time ban, not the members of VJ.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAdvice needed: US Citizen marrying a Canadian
QUOTE (eye0eye @ Jul 19 2009, 11:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks for the fast replies!

One other thing, of course we have the option for me to go to Canada and marry there, then petition to bring her here. I was struggling to find information on any specific type of visa I would need to enter Canada to do this. Would the timeframe of marrying in Canada be similar? And am I right in thinking the advantage of the K-1 is that we can both travel back and forth while the K1 is pending, however with the K-3 she would not be able to travel to the US, correct?

Thanks again.

PS: sorry about the 2nd suggestion.. won't be mentioned again wink.gif

tongue.gif You didn't know. Only the legal routes can be discussed. Now you do know not bringing it up again, will ensure that you get the best advice available - not a bunch of haterz wanting to diss you for 'cheating'. Good luck good.gif

K-1 is pretty fast. Your second suggestion is not legal and should and will not be discussed on this forum.

Oh, and no, you should not need a lawyer unless there is something odd or special about your case.

I should add, that the down side of your illegal suggestion, should you be caught in the act as it were, is a ban from the US. It might even be a lifetime ban - not sure, ask the experts on that smile.gif

It is a minimum of 10 years and there are no exceptions.

Milk is a big thing for me as I am totally against homogonisation (It's all to do with supermarket distribution and shelf life, leaving the little bit of 'cream' on the top makes the product unstable! They do it in the UK these days too)

Anyway, here in CA, there's a store called Trader Joe's and they do a full cream, non homogonised organic version which is really good and much better for my son too. Mind you, you pay the price!

I would just check which vaccines they require just to be on the safe side, as they are not necessarily the same ones as either immigration or UK requirements. I had all my son's shot records and that still wasn't enough, but hey, he's in school now and so far seems to be doing well.

Another difference, they have way more homework at his school than he did in the UK and the maths is more complicated, or at least is taught differently. I am sure he will adapt, but I am definitely not getting the feeling that his education is going to suffer from being in the US!

Another huge difference is the holidays. There are several one off days like this coming Monday (pres Lincoln's birthday) but no half terms. They get a week at Easter, then school's out for summer on 16th June and they don't go back until Sept 7thish. My major concern now is, if I do get a work permit, how am I going to afford the child care for when my son isn't in school?

Maybe I am just going to become a stay at home mom for a while longer than I anticipated :)

Hmm, interesting re chicken pox as the Dr who administered my son's shot was kinda suprised he hadn't had it already. I think the best thing to do is when you have the school organised, contact them directly and ask the best way of showing the things they require.

I was told to bring his vaccination chart and the TB test with my original enquiry, and you are correct in saying that the Heb B is a requirement for children for AOS. However, I guess because I assumed the immigration requirements would be the same as the school requirements I didn't actually enquire what they were looking for.

Anyway, back to his first day at school. His teacher was extremely nice and friendly and showed me his classroom and his desk. The school is open plan (very unlike his UK school)

He seems to have already made some friends, including a 'girl friend'.

Another difference, the US make a lot of the Valentine holiday and he has to make a little box containing a card for each of his class mates. There is also more homework than I was anticipating.

Another intesting difference, and one that I am glad about, is that his new school do not encourage joined up writing at his age. It was one thing that I really didn't like about his old school, but of course he is so used to doing it that it will take a while to make the change.

All in all, seems to have been a success!

United KingdomFor those doing this with kids...
Instead of filling up the AOS thread with stuff about this, I thought I would start another thread for those that are doing this with children.

Of course, this is my experience in California and other states will have different requirements.

Anyway, as stated in the other thread, things I didn't know about the requirements for school before I actually tried to register my son:

He needed a chicken pox vaccination (this is not one of the immigration required ones)
The TB test for California must be correctly dated, and by preference performed in California. The actual test was around $19 dollars but the clinic visit was around $40.

I could have waited and had some of the costs re imbursed if I had gone through my husband's medical insurance policy, but for me the most important thing is getting my son settled into a routine of going to school so I chose to pay this time.

So, this is his first day of school. Unlike in the UK, school here starts at 8.00 a.m and there is no school uniform! We shall see how this works out.

Luckily for me, his school is in walking distance so I don't have to worry about getting buses etc which is great.

Sorry I can't remember the answer to all your questions, but I can help with a couple.

Your husband must complete the I-134 and I believe you need to get it notorised.

You have a choice as to whether to send back the documents and wait to send the police report (and complete the medical) with the checklist, or send the whole lot together. Either way, they will not do anything with your case until you do send the completed check list.

Good luck

United KingdomVaccination Record?
I got a print out which was stamped and signed by the Dr. They didn't charge me for it, although technically I think they are meant to :).

Remember to keep a copy of this as you may need it for AOS when you get to the USA.

Good luck.

United KingdomVaccination Confusion
I thought I would have trouble with vaccination records as well, but when I got the vaccination record from the docs it showed I had had mumps/rubella/measles and tetanus in 1998. I believe I had them all because I was pregnant at the time :D, although I don't remember having any of them. I guess because when you are pregnant they are always poking and prodding you,

Anyway, good luck to everyone going through the medical and don't forget to get a copy of your vaccination record sheet as you are going to need all that info again when you go through AOS. :)

United KingdomAdvice/Experiences
I did the K3 last year. The application was sent in in July and the Visa was approved 2nd December.

Our experience was pretty uneventful. I had my medical in Birmingham so I am not sure how relevant that would be now they are using the Knightsbridge guys.

The actual interview was pretty much a non event, I was just asked to furnish the required documents and pay for the visa to be courriered out.

The most obvious things I guess are keep your documents orderly and get someone to double check your paperwork to ensure you don't make any silly mistakes. Having said that, even if a a minor error creaps in, it's not the end of the world, usually :)

Good luck iwth your journey, may it be speedy and hassle free

Do they have to be british? If you can face the idea of aquiring some American friends, Craigslist is good. Search activities for something you enjoy, hiking, snorkling, sufring, whatever and you'll soon find people to hook up with.

Good luck anyway :)

I have never used my child to 'get back at' my ex. I don't talk disparigingly about him around my home. I encourage my son to communicate with and visit his father.

I never wanted anything from my ex, nor do I now. However, I do wonder if by allowing fathers to pay nothing towards their childs upbringing is really the right way. If he had to pay something, maybe he would at least realise that in the eyes of society he still has a responsibilty towards his son and he would act in a more fatherly role. It's probably unlikely though.

The lack of extra income didn't bother me. However, I thought/think that it shows the total lack of respect that my ex has for his son by allowing himself to wallow in this no income situation. An adult who thinks it's ok to live off the state for years, not a very good role model. Sadly, I know that he sees himself as a victim and has no idea how to help himself.

You think that's bad? My ex has never paid ANY child support, and I get a letter every year to tell me I recieved 0.00 pounds in support for the previous year. Excellent!

and sometimes what we know is out of date :)

However, if you do pay on the day, it'll probably be cheaper, by a quid or two, the exchange rate favours the pound :) (I had to pay for two visas. I paid one in advance, because I had one payment slip and one on the day in the embassy and the one in the embassy was cheaper :D )

How do you pay the visa fees without a payment slip?

I know this was last year, but everyone was asked to show their payment slips before they were allowed into the embassy. The person asking did have extra payment slips for those who didn't have any. There is a bank very close by so if you don't have the payment slip, maybe arrive early, get one and pay the fee before going in for interview?

Good luck, hope you get sorted.

It wasn't the medical itself that got me nervous, it was waiting for the results. No idea why, I had no reason to think there was anything wrong with my health. I guess it's just part of the process.

United Kingdominterview experience for those with divorce

My previous marrage wasn't mentioned at all, but as the first thing that was said to me was "We pleased to be able to issue your visa", follwed by advice on what to expect when I landed and a warning about not opening the MBE, you can see that in fact no questions were asked at all.

Someone with the same interview I had :D
PeikkoMale02007-01-26 21:34:00
United KingdomWondering which is faster?
There are two forms DS-156 and DS-230 Part I that have to be returned first, then the check list (or alltogether) Other documents are brought to the interview.

I sent mine seperate from the checklist around the beginning of October and heard about my interview, which was on the 2 Dec, on the 9th November.

Not sure if any of this helps really though, you'll all get an interview sooner or later :D

The Americans sell a 'version' of Cadbury chocolate, and the Dove stuff, but it is honestly not the same experience, IMO. It 'tastes' to me as if there is way more sugar and way less chocolate. Whatever they have done to the chocolate, it's just not my cup of tea at all :(

I would miss decent bread if I didn't make it myself. Not sure why Americans like their bread to taste like cake!

I miss Jaffa Cakes and decent bacon and sausage.

However, I really like many of the things that they have here that I couldn't have in England, especially my SO:D :D

United KingdomBritish TV ~ What Were/Are Your Favourite Shows?
I miss the one off dramas and quirky series, like "Love Soup" that Channel four and the Beeb produce in abundance. The period dramas were always good and very beautifully produced, but I guess I have had my fill of them now.

I miss the documentaries, like Palin's "Around The World in 80 Days" (Yes, I know that's an old one) and some of the history programmes. I miss Horizon and Top Gear. I miss Room 101, Have I Got News For You, Friday Night with Johnathon Woss :) and The Kumars at no 42. I miss re runs of the Good Life and Porrige. How do I survive here?

I miss the UK police dramas like Dalziel and Pascoe and Taggart (well, that's not what it was since Mark McManus kicked the bucket). :P :P Wierdly, I didn't watch much tv then and I watch less now :)

My son misses things like Scrap Heap Challenge and Robot Wars.
