Thanks everyone smile.gif
I am SO happy and excited that we got approved, this is like a dream come true .. My fiancee and I will finally be able to be together and start our life together biggrin.gif

For me the interview was kinda stressful though, but then again I often let the stress get to me too easily huh.gif
I was with 3 other couples and we had a nice time chatting and joking around together .. definitely helped get rid of some stress.
To those couples, it was nice sharing the interview experience with you. You all seem like great people and I wish you the best in your future life together smile.gif

Not to forget the people working at the embassy, they are all very nice and professional smile.gif

Congrats ChristinePR, nice to hear you got approved too smile.gif

For those who have the interview today in Montreal, there are a bunch of peoples protesting in front of the embassy. They where there Saturday, Sunday, today and still where there when I left work at 12pm. Cops where there to check in case of problems .. I do not know what the heck it is all about, but I just wanted to let you know so you are not too surprised (in case they are still there)

So in the interview letter, they did not specify what to bring at the interview except for pictures, visa, express post envelope, DS-156, DS-160, 131$ US in cash and such. So my question is ... What documents do I need to bring at the interview and which ones need to be notarized ????

Nothing needs to be notarized per se. If you use the new I-134 form from the USCIS website, it does not require notarization. The long-form birth certificate needs to be a certified copy with photocopy duplicates... but they give that back to you anyway and you automatically get a certified copy from the province if you order one (costs about $40). Honestly I don't know why people go to such great troubles to get things notarized (must be due to the rigorous VJ instructions). I didn't have a single thing notarized when I went to the interview.

To figure out what you need to bring, read over the packet 3 checklist and the interview appointment letter. The checklist pretty much covers 90% of the stuff. Just make sure everything listed in the checklist is photocopied twice.

The appointment letter mentions the DS-160 and the DS-156. Both need to be completed (though the DS-160 should have been done at the time you sent back packet 3). FYI they took one copy of my DS-160 (confirmation page and answers), and 2 copies of my DS-156. The appointment letter also says to bring the $131 USD cash or Canadian equivalent (you can pay in Canadian at the cashier if you have enough money... they do an daily exchange rate). Simpler to get the US money in my opinion. Oh, and the updated Fiance(e) letter of intent.

The only other thing that isn't really noted -- make sure you bring the DS-156k that came in your packet 3 because it's signed in front of the interviewing officer, and make a photocopy of your biographic page of the passport because they'll ask you for it.

ps-it helps to read consulate reviews within this thread to get an idea of what to bring.

Thanks a lot bauser for your advices, this is greatly appreciated smile.gif oh and you too Wis-Can good.gif
I will go through all the documents again and make sure everything is set ... no, wait ... hell I'll bring them all just to be on the safe side laughing.gif

Guess the stress is just getting to me .. I sort of feel like lol

Ok so now that we have our interview date, we are stressing a little bit and begin to be so confused about what to bring at the interview .. lol

I know a lot of people asked similar questions but we can not seem to find a thread where all the information is together and right now we are very confused.

Also, they ask to bring DS-156 and DS-160 .. do I need to bring both ? I thought DS-160 was replacing DS-156 unsure.gif

I have a question. My fiance received packet 3 and filled out DS-230 and checklist and mailed it to Montreal. She scheduled her medical exam for April 8. Does she take packet 3 to her medical exam. She doesn't have a interview appointment letter yet? and she said it takes about 2 hours to fill out form DS-160 online. Anybody has encountered that long of time while filling it out and she hasn't submitted it yet. and She said she needs to get digital picture to upload it. I understand these pictures need to be Canadian Passport standard. Is that right?

she needs to bring these items to the medical exam
4 US size pictures (3 will be used at the medical exam)
Letter from the consulate including case number (not the interview letter)
Medical records booklet
Passport or 2 proofs of identity
And of course money to pay for the exam.

For the DS-160, yes it can take a long time. The form does have quite a lot of questions and it keeps timing out, so she need to save very often otherwise she will have to restart from the beginning every time. So yes it can take quite a while to fill out (took mine approximately 2 hours also).

for the picture on the DS-160, she can either scan a US size picture or just upload it if it is a picture taken with a home digital camera. (note that with both choices, the picture needs to comply with the specifications)

Today's tidbit of information:

I asked Montreal if my sponsor can use the new I-134 Affidavit of Support form (found here) and they said it is accepted.

So just a heads up to anyone who has an interview coming up and/or working on their I-134's... go download the new one and you won't have to get it notarized.

Cool, thanks for the tip good.gif

If you don't have a scanner how would you go about doing that?

As SapphireDreams mentioned, you can take a picture of yourself against a white wall. To crop or resize the picture, you can also use paint.net .. it is completely free and if you are not sure about the size in pixel, it gives you the option to view the print size in cm/metric or English units.

CanadaForm I-751
Hey everyone :)

It is time for us to file form I-751 and we have a question about part 5. My wife (USC) have 2 kids (both kids are US citizens born here in the States from a previous marriage). We do not have any children together (from this marriage). Should we list her kids in form I-751 part 5 or just leave it blank ?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

ok, Volvo sucks my *******

I finally got someone today who sent me a 3 sentence form letter saying that my car complies with all emissions and standards on the date it was built. thats it... they said that if I wanted a more detailed letter with recall stuff etc... I would have to go to dealership...have them test my car???? check for recalls and they would charge me????

You would think, being linked to Ford, they would have their game straight!

Back to the drawing board... gotta call this guy tmrw sad.gif

Thanks Trailmix smile.gif

I got my compliance letter very easily with Volvo. I called Volvo Canada who did not seem too interested in doing the work, so they told me to call Volvo USA (which I promptly did)
They have all your vehicle records since Volvo USA, Canada etc are all linked together, plus, their service is so much better smile.gif. Just call them and they will send you the compliance letter by mail without any problem.
I will dig up the phone number and the person I spoke with, (I think her name was Donna) and I will post it here.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian marrying American, Procedures
Hello everyone happy.gif ,

My name is Nicolas and I am a Canadian citizen living in Montreal, my girlfriend is American and live in Florida.
We met online 2 years ago, and after 2 years of traveling (me to USA and her to Canada to spend time together and meet each other's family), Chat sessions every day, phone calls every day, we finally decided to get married and live together, (in United States, so I would move there permanently) biggrin.gif
We searched online for documentation on the procedures to follow, but all we can find online is rather "not clear" to us and we really want to do it right the first time yes.gif Seems that our best option would be via a K1 Visa from what we've read.
It would be sooooooooooooooo appreciated if you could help us clarifying the procedures to follow, delays for procedures and such... yes.gif

Also, just a quick question : from what we gathered online, it states that she would have to be able to support me at 150% or something like that. But we are wondering what exactly do they mean by that huh.gif ? .. She have a job and live in an appartment right now and that's where I would move so she would basically provide a roof over our heads during the time for me to find a job in United States .. we mean, how do they calculate that and what is the 150% based on ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help biggrin.gif
Best regards
Nicolas

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Question (I-129F form)
Hello everyone

I am a Canadian Citizen and my fiancee is American.
We started to fill out the forms for the K1 Visa and, while filing out the I-129F form, we came across a field we do not really know how to answer:

On the I-129F, question 10 states "My citizenship was acquired through", my fiancee was born abroad in Germany of a Citizen of the United States of America and does have a form FS-240, but under the answer of Parents there are two other questions that we are unsure about the first one is "Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name?" Which all she has is her birth certificate and the form FS-240 and the second question is "If "Yes," give certificate number, date and place it was issued". Any advice on these two questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You in advance for all your assistance.

Moral of the story, no matter if it is a long or short story ... can't we all get along and just learn from previous mistakes ? Just remember that what governments wants us to think and what we personally think are 2 different things wink.gif

I would personally go with what USCIS says.
Check with USCIS and follow the procedures, do not just overstay like that based on what others say. Call and get official information cause if they ban you due to fraud, you won't be able to go back to USA for a very long time.

CanadaTranslation???
Hi ruby_mtl smile.gif

I used the OTTIAQ and did a search on their websites for my translations. They are pretty much all in the same prices (approximately 0.25$ per word). The only thing is they won't have your documents notarized, they can have them certified (as most of them can do that being certified translators) but not notarized which is not the same thing at all, so you will need to get your documents notarized by your notary.

you can find them here : Translators

for your health records book, I do not think it needs to be translated as the only certified doctor in Montreal area does speak french very well.

hope that helped wink.gif

CanadaPackage 3 has finally made it here!
I am not sure as I do not have kids, but in the pack 3 they clearly state for the DS-160 "one per each applicant" so I would guess you have to fill out one for her too .. but wait until someone more knowledgeable respond back in this forum just to be on the safe side. You can still fill out the rest of your form and correct the information at the end (before submitting it) if needed.

On the DS-160, for Current Employment, does anyone know if I should put Not Employed or Homemaker? Last night I began this form (thought I saved it but apparently did not) and I had put Homemaker, which then prompted me with "Have you worked in the past" and then wanted all employment details for the past five years. Today, I checked out the NOT EMPLOYED option, because I am not sure which to use. I was expecting the same "have you worked in the past" question and request for details, but was only asked for an explanation. I put "looking for work".

Thanks!

for current employment, If you are currently unemployed, I would select "unemployed" and write in the explanation box that you are unemployed since (date when unemployment began).

Also, when you save the form, make sure you save it in a place you will remember (like your desktop for example). When you will start your form again, it will ask you for the file so just select it and upload it. The default provided file name will change depending at what stage of the form you are at, so one thing you can do is select the last file you saved and overwrite it with your current progress.

CanadaPackage 3 has finally made it here!
Hi Rob and Mel

I think you have to mail them but I am not sure if faxing them would be ok since they require you to sign the DS-230. Also the DS-160 is online and you will have to bring a copy of it (and the bar code at the end of the form) with you at the interview. Make sure you are prepared before filing out the DS-160 prior to starting and remember to save it very often (this thing keeps timing up pretty quickly and if you do not save, you will have to start the form all over again.) took me at least 5 time out before finishing the form .. lol

Also, remember to scan (in high resolution) a picture of yourself (picture must be in the norms) before starting the DS-160 as you will need to upload it at the end of the form. If you do not have a scanner, you can also take a picture of yourself against a white wall with your digital camera and then crop it with paint or any other graphic software.

For Q25 on the DS-230, I just entered my last 3 visits since there is space only for 3 entries in the form, they will ask you the same question on the DS-160 where you will be able to fill out all the visits to USA with specific dates.

I wonder where they get these attitudes and ideas from.

I think some people just watch too much BS TV shows and base their ideas on that and also on what others are saying instead of actually get to know people for real, that's all .. lol
Most of the time people tend to generalize and do not think there are good and bad people everywhere in the world. They just see the world in black and white .. there is no Grey area to them.

Of course, they have the right to think whatever they want, they just make their life harder thinking that way !

CanadaAh! How annoying
wow .. what an immoral thread this guy posted !

hmmm, what to say about it ?

Insecurities, ultra low self esteem, lack of morals, and I would add that if he judges people by the way they look or where they come from, that just proves he's got a long way to grow up.

Also after reading some of the people's answers in that other thread, it just seems to me there are a lot of BS, old, and thankfully long gone stereotypes being posted .. lol

So The pack 3 should only contain the DS-230 and the checklist or am I missing something ?
There is one form (DS-156k) that they sent me in the pack 3, but they do not ask for it (form DS-160 has already been filled out and sent online and I know this form is replacing the DS-156) .. they only ask for the DS-230 and the checklist, so should I send the DS-156K also ?

The DS-160 is online and has been sent already, the DS-230 has been completed as mentioned earlier, we have most of the checklist documents already, the only thing holding us back for the checklist is that we are waiting for the official date my fiancee came to USA with her parents (she was 2 years old) and this information will come from the US army.

Anyone else want to share their experience ? is it best to send the forms and checklist together ? and will the fact that it took 2 months already to send them back the forms will affect the visa ?

I guess I am just stressing it out a lil bit more than I should but you guys know how it is .. Sometimes stress is just getting to us, lol biggrin.gif

Hi everyone smile.gif

I have another question blush.gif

I received my packet 3 about a 2 months ago .. I have completed and submitted the DS-160 last week, the DS-230 is also completed but not sent yet I plan on sending it today by express post.
I am still working on the checklist items .. I had my birth certificate translated, my police certificates etc etc, I am only missing the medical and the affidavit from my fiancee who is also waiting for a paper for the affidavit form.

So is there any time line to send these forms back ? I saw that in the package they state to send back the DS-160 and DS-230 immediately but I have been so busy lately that I had just a little time to do anything. Will the fact that I did not sent it back immediately affect the visa procedures ?

Also can I send the DS-230 now and send the checklist later when we will have everything required ?

Thanks in advance everyone for your answers biggrin.gif

I have a dumb question though blink.gif
In the DS-160 form they are asking a contact name in the USA so as my fiancee is the only contact I have in the USA, I put her name, and then they are asking what relation I have with that person.. So there is a list of option with friend, spouse other, etc etc, but nothing with "fiancee" so I put "other" as choice .. would it be correct ?

Also, they are asking if I have immediate relatives in the US, my fiancee is an immediate relative right ? so is it correct to put her name ? (I am a bit confused with the meaning of relative and immediate relatives)

Can someone put some light on this one for me ? lol

thanks a lot in advance for your help and sorry for the dumb question blush.gif

CanadaCanadian marrying American, Procedures
hey everyone smile.gif

Ok so after checking it out, all documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator AND notarized ...
so that being done, off I am filling out the DS-160 ..
That DS-160 form is a real pain, lol. Had my picture accepted, entered 60 years in the field where they ask how long I am planning on staying in the US (thought it was a funny question lol) and after a few timed out sessions I finally got it done and saved it smile.gif

Here comes my next question.
I have been denied entry to USA once about 1 year ago (been there since without any problems). Reason for them to deny entry to USA was that at the time my fiancee and I planned on spending 6 months together. So as Canadians are legally allowed 6 months in USA per year, we arranged everything (took arrangements with my boss, put money aside etc etc).. The problem for the customs was that since my apartment renting contract was over, I decided not to renew it to avoid paying 6 months for nothing .. I figured I would just find another one quickly on my way back to Canada.

Apparently they did not like the fact I did not have an apartment or house in Canada anymore huh.gif. So they told me to come back when i would have a place to live and that then it would be ok, after that they kindly escorted me back to the Canadian border mad.gif So I got my apartment back (phew got lucky on that one .. lol) and then my fiancee and I decided to shorten our vacations to 3 months (just to be on the safe side).. So I went back to the border and they accepted me after a few questions without any problems. (btw : these vacations where the best vacations of my entire life smile.gif .. did the whole trip in car from Montreal to Florida just to see USA a lil bit better than from a plane .. lol)

So in the DS-160 form, there is question where they ask if I have ever been denied entry to the US and why ... what should I have entered in there, and is the fact that I have been denied once for a stupid reason would delay the procedures or put the whole procedures on the line ?

PS : I do NOT have any criminal record of any sorts .. just thought I would precise that .. lol
