CanadaThings We Need For The K-1 Interview
i would just like to say that unlike most obviously american places there are no flags or anything telling you that its an embassy outside the building. (except the engraved crest thats so high up no one sees it)

CanadaPOE FINALLY
after many many delays, potentially disastrous health issues and truck rental issues i have FINALLY moved.

i think i am the first who crossed through Sault Ste Marie. so i suppose i should tell everyone how it went.

we got to the border at about noon on a Saturday, the Sault border is pretty busy but not compared to Detroit or buffalo. the merged bridge traffic must divide into lanes, if you're in a u-haul ( like us) you must take the most right lane. The guy in the booth took our IDs and told us to park the truck just over to the side so that it was out of the way. They didn't really seem to have any procedure for this kind of thing; even regular traveling people who are pulled over to go into secondary usually get a guard escort to the building, we did not. We went in, everyone was so nice, they thanked us for doing things legally and asked if we were excited. the man in the booth came up through another entrance and gave the guy at the desk out IDs.

The guy at the window sighed a little annoyed like then got out this HUGE manual. Another border guard just sitting there at another window asked us how long everything took, how long our interview was. The whole process was pretty uneventful, the guy at the window processing us explained that they get maybe 1 person a month come through on a visa so he was taking his time making sure he didn't screw anything up for us and i was glad for that.

The whole thing took an hour. He gave me back my passport with my visa stamped and a white card with my i-94 thinger stapled to it and sent us on our way. no one even asked to look in the truck.

i was so effin nervous for nothing lol now i have to remind myself every now and then that i'm not just there for a visit and i never have to count down the days for another visit YAY!

thank you to everyone i ever bothered with crazy questions. ( though i'll have more when i adjust lol )

CanadaHelp
you can measure and cut the pictures yourself. the quality and standard of the pictures in both countries are the same so no worries there. i had to do it recently and had no problems.

also i believe and someone can correct me if i'm wrong, that you can use someone who has had a passport for 5 years or more as your guarantor. i think they just changed that. ( i hope i'm not wrong)

CanadaWeight loss support
hi, remember this thread ;p not to torture anyone but the last post was in march. i was wondering if everyone or if anyone is still keeping on track?

i've had a lot of adjustments to make food-wise because of the selection in the small area that i live in. i find i have to read the labels more intensively. i'm REALLY trying hard to kick this sugar, more specifically chocolate addiction that i suffer from. my mom who is a personal fitness trainer told me to eat more nuts or even to mix almonds, pecans, raisins and a few dark chocolate chips together to have for "desert" or snacks. it seems to be working, i don't have these massive i want to kill someone if i don't get chocolate cravings anymore. My mom says its the extra protein that helps, but i don't know.

aside from cutting down the sweets and controlling portion sizes i've been biking 10 miles once every two weeks and 6 miles every week. i try to walk at a decent speed for at least 30 mins every night too.

i don't have huge goals, i just want to tone up and maintain my weight, maybe prepare for the little bit i always gain in the winter time.
i hope everyone is keeping up with their fitness goals, especially since coming to America, the high fructose corn syrup capital of the world

oOo i like this thread.

i don't really want to lose any BUT

short term goal - 5 pounds
long term - keep it off especially in the winter time.

now that i can run again i would love to start that and since i live in the country now i want to get a bike and also do more hiking ^_^yay for staying active

CanadaMedical Exam
another poster mentioned it, they basically only care of contagious diseases. i've had major surgery because of my endometriosis 4 months before my medical. they checked out the scar but other than that didn't ask much about it. i know she made a note about it but that was the last i heard of it throughout this whole process.

i'd imagine they'll ask about and make notes about your hypertension , well, because its something they will notice. they may even ask about your meds to make sure you're getting treated but i wouldn't even worry about it

CanadaFun News from Home!

The strike at Vale-Inco (Sudbury) finally ended a couple of weeks ago. Not really "fun" but a relief for all those families that were scrapping by for almost a year.

CanadaNews coverage re: immigration bothering you too?

Frankly for us, immigration DID break our banks, and I am sick of people back home wondering WHY we spent so much money on it, and WHY it took so long to get everything processed, and WHY we didn't just move and marry like most apparently think we can. What bothers me is that people don't understand the legal process, and think that you CAN just move over here and stay and it's legal. It's NOT. And I also hate that there's this underlying assumption that just because you're an immigrant then you must be here illegally. That's not the case either.

^

exactly what i went through, exactly how i feel.
thanks ashen

CanadaChildren
it may seem scary, the thought of bringing up a child in todays messed up world. i used to be on the fence about having children, i did, i didn't , i don't know. when i finally decided that i wanted a child i had the opportunity taken away from me forever because of a disease. this disease may have fast forwarded what it would have been like if i had gotten to chose not having children. i feel bitter sometimes when my friends talk about it. i get sad when i see my friend's little boy and how much he's grown. i'll never have that ( unless i adopt of course.

if you can have children and its only money that is swaying your decision, please know that financial situations change and that i know people that have raised children with practically nothing to their name (my husband's mother is one of them).
People who never want children usually are pretty firm in their decision, if you're undecided it means that somewhere deep down you know you'll regret it.

i know i will, only difference if i don't have the choice anymore

CanadaCdn passport arrived
thanks

thats what i thought,

now, i'm under the impression that because i will be mailing the app from the U.S and because i reside in the U.S i must follow the old guarantor rules , meaning it has to be a person from the list of professionals ( Ie: dr, dentist, lawyer)and they still have to sign the back of one of my photos. Am i correct in assuming this? or can it just be a 5 year passport holder.

anyone have experience with this?

CanadaCdn passport arrived
speaking of passports guys,

i have 3 questions.
i have to do a renewal as well as a name change on my passport pretty soon

1 and 2- do i have to complete both a renewal and a name change form or can i just put my new name on renewal form

3- also can i use my mom as a guarantor since she's visiting in two weeks. i read that the guarantor only has to have a 5 year valid passport but it doesn't say anything about using family members.

OMG I get married tomorrow.

I tried on the red chinese dress my friend got for me and it didn't fit right (actually made me look like I was wearing a mumu). I didn't have time to take it in so I went and got another dress at Bonton's yesterday. I will take in the red dress and wear it for the rehersal for my "wedding" in May.

early congrats then!!

CanadaAOS'rs...

Wow, I know my husband and I will go to Detroit if we aren't transferred to CSC but it seems the people in Michigan have been having their interviews, not transfers. Glad you made it out alive and didn't get shot.

if you have to make the trip and stay overnight stay in Southgate (30 mins from uscis) not in detroit near the building

FYI the USCIS office in Detroit is in a VERY bad neighborhood. everything around it is all boarded up and slummy looking, then BAM in the middle of a slum; this huge pristine glass governmental building

Approved after my interview yesterday.

it was so ridiculous. she didn't even ask about our marriage, she just went over the "are you a terrorist, communist, rapist, drug dealer" questionnaire that we have to check yes or no to in the initial application. she verified it then told me how to file for ROC when the time comes.

wow i drove ALL the way to Detroit ( 5+ hours) for THAT??! i almost got shot 9 times like fiddy !

but seriously though, with how slow CSC is going now, its worth it.

we don't have alot of joint accounts cause he doesn't have insurance and the car is in his mothers name cause he fixed it up and is " borrowing it" we have our lease, bank account and the electric account is in both our names. we have wedding pictures of both our families together. i'm thinking of getting our landlord ( who is more like a grandfather) to write an affidavit for us or something.

other than evidence and the obvious IDs listed on the letter what do you have to bring. i noticed it says affidavit of support and your medical to bring those but then in parenthesis it says if not already submitted. i figure this is a generic letter but did they ask for any of the forms.
