I know I already had my interview  but I'm going to follow this thread to watch the CC's while I wait for my waiver approval. The waiver thread is nowhere NEAR as cool.

We have gone and past NVC and have our interview date already . Someone I know got a request at the Manila embassy for another DS-260 to be done to add a child born after the first DS-260 was completed . We have the same situation and would like to get this done before the day of the interview to avoid any hold ups . I have signed on to the NVC site and can only view not edit our DS-260 .

its no big deal, just update it at the interview.   You can't access the DS260 after you submit it.

Thanks, just wasn't sure what it meant as there's been nothing in there previously except to say that there wasn't enough information to give any dates.

yup, not enough timeline updates

Haven't checked my Timeline in a while but feeling a bit lonely as my hubby has just flown back to the States after a 5 day visit, so thought I would come on here in the hope of a little bit of good news, so I see this at the bottom of my timeline:-

Based on timeline data, your I130 may be adjudicated between December 18, 2013 and January 31, 2014*.

If this date range has passed or your application is past due per USCIS processing times then you should consider calling the USCIS to inquire on your petition. If you have been approved please update your timeline.

What does that mean?  Is that the date that they might start looking at it?

The timeline on VJ is for entertainment pruposes only. Its based on the entries .  You can't really take it to heart because it depends on those who enter the info. Many people start a timeline and never come back to update it as they progress.  When I first filed back in April, my timeline said I would be ajuducated sometime in July.   Now it says November 9th to December 8th.  If things were normal, you might be able to rely a little bit on the info  but for now, its just for fun.  ( especially with all the transfers going on )

Oh ok. So I assume approval comes after the interview ? Any idea how much lead time they give you for your interview

You are waiting for your petition to be approved. Then your file goes to the NVC, after that... sent to the consulate/embassy for your interview.   Gear up for a long wait.  9-11 months

February and March filers were just transferred the past 2 weeks after 7-8 months of collecting dust at the NBC.  3 approvals came through today.  Check out Igor's list ( Immigration timeline tab above)    Read the guides ( tab above)  you can get a good idea of what to expect from them.  Also, check out other threads for information.

So I am faithfully checking my online status weekly and it still says initial review. Any thoughts as to how long the initial review usually takes? What is the next step after that?

Sorry, but initial review is all you'll see until your approval.  They aren't kind enough to keep you posted on the progress.

Costa Rica loses... everything.  When I first arrived a few years back my mom and friend both sent me packages for Christmas with tracking numbers & insured.  After two months I went to see where they were.  The workers told me that the tracking numbers were only for the USA and they change when they come into CR.  Great system, right?  They then told me the USA lost all my packages and mail (letters, postcards, etc).  As you can imagine, I did not renew my mailbox.dry.png

That's a shame... I send packages to my husband all the time. He lives WAYYYYYY up in the mountains. I can send a package that weighs about 10lbs and it gets there within 10 days. I don't get a tracking number but I  get a customs number from the customs receipt and I can track it all the way to his home town. I even send little greeting cards and he gets them fine too.  I couldn't do that few years ago.. But now its great.  I sent a cell phone last month. It got there fine.   There is a delivery company that only delivers to Costa RIca... Door to Door. we used them many times.  They go by size of the box, not weight.   They are in NJ but they come out to PA to pick up..Maybe they have an office near you or can recommend another company.  If you want to call them, send me a message... I'll forward the number to you

OMG no you didn't .. I'm sorry but I believe you have NO reason to say that.. People come to this country illegaly for so many reasons.. And what "sucks up" benefits in this country are those Lazy #### people that do not work and are asking for money in the streets.. How many " illegals" do you see asking for money in the street?? You should first think before saying something because you don't know who you are offending.

I know more than you think... I have seen more than you know....  YOU have no idea what goes on in my neighborhood..

The benefits are for the USC...  I'm not saying they aren't lazy... and I never said LAZY in my original post anyway

If I had residency in my husbands country, I would NEVER expect the same benefits as the citizens get  and if I were Illegal there, I 'd expect even less.   As a matter of fact, I wouldn't stay there illegally.  But I understand that is me...

I know the reasons they come here,( I know MANY MANY illegals)    I just don't think the USC's should suffer for that.  It is illegal to enter this country without being documented, YES OR NO?

How about the Citizens in the US that might be offended that they come here and get the same benefits and they actually broke the law getting here and by staying...??    Watch  who you are offending.

Too long ago!!!

Isn't the 129 for a fiancee though?  Aren't you already married?  Can you do that?

You're in mine, Blueberry!  goofy.gif

You're right.  It's more about undocumented people...specifically, they're concerned with people who were brought here at a young age, for example, by their parents.  If they're caught, they can be deported--even though they may have been here since the age of 2, gone to school, graduated, gotten degrees, etc.  They can do all of that without being legal.  Then they can be deported.  It has happened in some high profile cases, including a young man who had become a lawyer.  He is, of course, suing...

Suing???  for what? the fact that his parents ( the ones who are RESPONSIBLE for him)  made a dumbass decision to enter a country illegally?  Crossing the border illegally comes with consequences and they all need to face it.   All their illegal kids suck up the free lunches at the schools, suck up benefits meant for the USC's.     UGHHHH DON't get me started.....

Wow lucky you.. and really.. over 1000 dollars to costa rica? My ticket to Honduras is probably the most 800 bucks.. But its never enough.. I HATE it when I get on that airplane and he can't come with me.. what an awful feeling ..

Its over $1000 for Christmas.. Usually I pay about $630.00 round trip.

It is such a terrible feeling having to leave him there. He always asks to get in my bag.   The good thing is, I am down to only a carry-on because I have everything I need there.  My mother-in-law told me she will wash my clothes so I don't have to bring so much everytime.  ha ha LOVE HER

Me: 3 months.. have to wait 2 more months to see him cray5ol.gif

So far this year  Feb, March, May and August . Only  10 days each with him

I will be going back on Thanksgiving for 11 days.  It's Still not enough.  I really wanted to go during Christmas because I have 4 days paid vacation and I could have combined it with my PTO and stayed longer  BUT the Ticket is Over $1000.

I also plan on going in Feb 2014

Video chatting is difficult because of his location and that he doesn't have internet in the house. we have to rely on Cell service.  Its not that great over there.

Well, sorry about that. I certainly do not mean to make anyone feel that way.

I'm only on this one, really. Just when I'm bored I may show up on another. I registered there only to post our letter and spread the word.

don't apologize.... no need to explain...

maybe you are over thinking all of this... to me, there is no rhyme or reason for anything that happens at the USCIS.   I can't change their process.  My lawyer told me to just sit tight, they will do their job, and that no letters or phone calls will make them move faster.

I used to stress at the  beginning.. Now, I just hang out and read the threads here on VJ and look up my case numbers on my phone app.  It is very hard to be here without my husband. I have some real bad days.  Yesterday was one of them. My poor husband doesn't know what to say to me.  We are married, we aren't supposed to "visit"  we are supposed to be together.

Oh. My. Gosh. Some people are just on my last nerve today!

There is this one girl on another forum who filed in June and just recently got approved. I keep asking her to check her NOA1, if it came from OP, but she seems confused what I'm talking about. Ugh.

Also, yet another forum, I keep getting f'ing yelled at. For daring (sic!) to say there is a backlog and local offices suck. Really?! Gosh. Not going there anymore.  If they want to be in denial, so be it. I will sniff for more info about OP and other things somewhere else. Whatever.

And, if I hear one more time, that VJ sucks, I will scream. At least we have super nice people here! smile.png

doesn't it make your head spin to be on so many forums?  One is enough for me.

Even if OP  starts processing, you are just at a month and a half...  You should still expect a 6 month wait....

I get exhausted just following  your posts.....     ( and I'm not trying to be B!tchy... incase I am coming off like that)

I know a guy who is living in the US (EWI) and filed his I-130 January 24 and received his NOA2 May 15th of this year.   Then he filed his waiver around July. I haven't talked to him so I don't know if that was approved yet.  It seems like if you are in the US, it gets processed faster.  He was processed at the MSC.

Nothing yet from NVC.  I did get a very nice man though who explained the process.  This is sort of ridiculous.  They are now saying it takes 4 weeks to get from our service centers to the NVC....and then it takes them about 4 weeks to input the data into their systems.  Seriously!  I can mail something and it gets somewhere in 2-3 days, 4 max.  I can open an envelope in say...30 seconds (to be generous) and inputting data...well, let's say that takes 10 minutes because I'm a slow typist.  I still only come up with 1 week..let's be generous--2.  I just can't wrap my head around the inefficiency...

I think I remember reading that they send them over in batches of 500.   So you could have been number 1 in the batch of 500...

It would cost too much to send them one by one...  but for real... you could walk it over faster than they get it there.

But... I can't just accept it. That would mean I don't care anymore. And I do. Care. A lot.

But, for the sake of my sanity- I just gotta vent sometimes. ranting33va.gif

I agree with you BP....  I also feel like .... we paid a fee.  and it wasn't a small fee... Its not like we are asking for something for free. It seems ridiculous that they can't take care of business on their end.  They already cashed the checks...  We did our part... Now they need to get it together.    It would be a different story if filing was free and they were funded by the government...  but thats not the case... So I think we all can be angry if we want to.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsi-130 December filer, pending adjudication, how much longer?

mine took 11 months and they gave me the same answers when I submitted service requests. They wouldn't even let me file a service request until my file was pending 10 months.  It was beyond frustrating. They will not give you any kind of priority..  TRUST ME..  I lived through it already.   . I was told that by the senator's office that once they put you in security checks, it takes your file out of the normal processing times. That makes it so you can't claim your file is out of normal processing times.   They also told me that security checks cannot be expedited.    All I can say is that you just have to hold on a little longer.   Your security checks are done. I think we waited another month after that.

We filed April 2013  my file was transferred November 2013 to the TSC with a letter stating it would take 60 days to hear something.  We weren't approved until March 18th 2014.

They gave me some BS about my file being assigned to an officer in December 2013.  They they said 2 more weeks...  It was lie after lie.  In the end, I sent an email to the same list of people everyday.  It started with a letter once a week, then twice a week  then everyday.  The operators who answers your call at the USCIS know nothing.  They are known to make up lies.

Check out the NVC filer thread and get your documents ready. There is a backlog at the NVC but if you have your docs ready, you might be able to get through a little faster.  There is an NVC WIKI that will help you  and become your bible.   I had an attorney and he made mistakes ( as most filers report about their attorneys)  the WIKI is 100% correct.

if you can please clear one more thing

Interview documents list says that we will have to take original documents to embassy

Does it mean i'll have to issue another copy of all my original documents?

when your case is complete and you get an interview assigned, they will send you an interview letter and it will specify what you need to bring to the interview  and what they already have.  To be safe, I would bring copies of everything you sent to the NVC just in case.

LoveMyTicoFemaleCosta Rica2014-09-18 14:53:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOriginal documents vs translated documents

Yep, you have to submit the original document and the translation. If you send one and not the other you will get a checklist and that will delay your process another 60 days.  You can ask for the originals at the interview.  May I suggest you paperclip the translation to each original in a few different spots so the two documents don't get separated.  They have been known to say they don't have one or the other and then you are forced to send another even though you did send both.   Make sure you put your case number in pencil on each document too incase they get separated from the file.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsupdate on my expedite at NVC

Our expedite request is also "under review". Not sure if we need to contact the embassy to check on it or the NVC. Also not sure how long it takes for them to review it.

When you request an expedite, the NVC sends it to the embassy.  Depending on how fast your embassy is, you should hear something within 2 weeks.  The NVC has nothing to do with the decision. If you are approved, the NVC will just forward your case to the embassy and they will continue the process there. You should have included 2 phone numbers for the beneficiary in your request.   If you already sent packages to the NVC , you are pretty much out of luck.  The NVC receives thousands of pieces of mail a day.  They will not sort through and look for a specific package.  My suggestion is, if you didn't send anything in yet, hold off until you hear the decision about your expedite.

IMO, there are so many people requesting expedites, I feel like they will start getting strict and stop granting them.

I think that is age discrimination. A big NO-NO. Also, ask yourself...Does the USCIS have time to separate the older applicants from the younger applicants? They might as well just adjudicate the file instead of touching it 10 times to separate them from the others.

I will at 6 months, we have (to be fair) only been at 4.5 months so i am not going to jump up and down yet. However a letter with another en-mass complaint at this time may well work wonders to make sure it doesn't get any worse. preventative medicine is sometimes the best...... what we DONT want is USCIS getting worse or pushing our cases back to meet the 5 month target..... But also until they update the 8.7 month timeframe on their website they have all the right in the world to tell you they are within timeframe if you complain.

I know this is horrible, but ultimately does the average american care, no, does he want this to go faster, no.... so until this becomes a factor which effects votes, why do they need to sort it? piss off a few hundred thousand people per year, small fry.....

However, as I read currently JULY cases have all but been transferred (correct me anyone if i am wrong) that means that we should see a transfer by the end of January. If not i will call then a tier - 2.

Sorry, what did you file in September? approved by halloween a few months later or a year and a few months later?

I would love to be IN the US by mid August, so approved early August would be fantastic....! thats 12 months start to finish.....

I am an April filer....

My NOA1 or PD (or whatever the right term is) is August 9th.   My status is also INITIAL REVIEW.   I decided I would wait the 5 months out before I started making calls and writing letters.  I swear if not for the health issues of some of my family members I would go live with my husband and apply with the consulate there.  Unfortunately, I don't have that option.

your status wont change until you get your NOA2.

Tier 1 and 2 are only call center employees. They are not the USCIS. They pretty much have the same information as whatyou can look up yourself on the USCIS website.  They can put a service request in or an expedite request but that is only if you get one that actually wants to to their job.  Many are nasty and rude.  Always get their employee ID number when you call. Ask them to repeat it if you miss it !

If you haven't been transferred yet, your file is just sitting . When you get transferred, it goes to another place to just sit.  Unless it is actually assigned to someone or you get an RFE, there really isn't much status.  Waiting sucks.  I have been waiting a few days shy of 9 months. I only found out last week that my file is assigned to someone.  The problem with that is, I  have no idea what " being assigned to an officer " actually means.  Does it mean my file is actually on someones desk OR am I just part of a list for one of the officers that he/she will eventually get to work on?  and how long has my file been  assigned???

I think August filers have a while to go. They still have many files from March and April that have been collecting dust.  TSC and NSC are working slower than Molasses or a dead snail. CSC was getting them approved but now some EINSTEIN decided to transfer I-129's ( work related) to the CSC for procesing .........so in my opinion, CSC will slow down too.     As my lawyer told me....  " just let them do their job, it will get done"   Not exactly the most comforting words.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAug 2013 I-130 filers

I wrote my congress woman about a week ago. No response yet as expected. I just explained to her from beginning to now. And told her how uscis says my case is not there anymore. Santo Domingo says my case is not there yet. And nvc has yet to respond to me at all. Did my case grow legs and runaway?? So hopefully I get some kind of response soon. Because the right hand doesnt know what the left is doing.

Lisa,  Did you receive your NOA2?
