PhilippinesQuestion re DS-260 documentation

Hi all.  Haven't posted here in forever - I am now trying to bring my mom to the States.

So, when we started collected documents, DS-230 pa ang gamit. Just now getting around to having everything (no rush because mom had stuff to deal with at home).

Now that it's DS260, I'm confused.  The instructions on travel.state.gov say to mail the originals/certified copies, PLUS photocopies, by snail mail... but I also read that at the interview, originals will be needed.. again?  So I need to mail my certified marriage certificate to NVC, AND send another certified copy to my mom to bring to the interview? When does she need the passport photos?? Do I send two by snail mail, while she still has to have three during the medical?

It's been really confusing for me, even with the AOS stuff, but I think I've figured that part out..

Hope someone can provide guidance here.

Thanks all!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures2nd RFE (Not IMBRA Related)
Ahh.. Reading through this is enough to get my stress levels soaring! We've only just sent out the envelope this week, but I can already see the first RFE coming, and a 2nd one in the future. Possibly even a third! He just hates sending mail :dead:

This was the second sending of the exact envelope, actually. First time, there wasn't enough stamps  so he had to slap on some more stamps, and send again. And he doesn't want to put a lot of stuff in the envelope! Like, just a couple of boarding passes (we went to Cebu when he was in the PI), and a couple of us-pictures. Gah.

So. I'm pretty sure i'll join the ranks of 2nd non-IMBRA RFEs. Someday.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1 received.
We received our NOA1 yesterday via snail mail! So what do I do? Pester him to tell me the receipt number, so I can register at the USCIS website (he wouldn't tell me cuz he says I'll just obsess over it :P ).

He eventually gave in, and I rushed off to register, but I kept on getting the message that the case doesn't exist when I try to add it..

Is this because I really can't add it yet? I have to wait some time? Or is there something wrong? -worry-

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnybody dream about your Immigration process?
I dreamt I'd gone to the interview without paying the fees. I paid the fees during my lunchbreak the next day.

I also dreamt I'd gone to the interview, with incomplete forms. Talk about nightmares!! My fiance has been teasing me about my paranoia and evidence obsession ever since. :D

i live in the philippines, and i daresay, it really would be difficult for you to get a job here. if you -do- want to work, i suggest applying for jobs online, and then coming here when you've got one waiting. though as PatientlyWaiting said, if you find 200-400/mo jobs unacceptable, then.. uh.. heh. i dunno. i make less than 200 a month, and yet i find myself lucky. so, good luck!

Asia: East and PacificForeign hotel rates in Philippines
While I was on the hunt for a good hotel for my bf and his mom, I frequently encountered receptionists who asked if the room would be for me, the Filipina. Apparently, they DO have different price schemes for foreigners and locals. The classier hotels say they have "discounts" for the locals, while others.. they just say it flat out - that there're different price schemes...

Can't say that I've any hotels to recommend, but given the choice, I'd also go for a short-term renting thing.

If you're gonna stay at Tagaytay, I recommend dropping by Bag o' Beans! Personally, i loved the ambiance and the food. I also heard that they offer accommodations, but... I wouldn't know about that. We usually just hit Tagaytay during daytime, and head home for the night. I've no email address for em, but.. their number is (46) 4132724.

Good luck to you! And a belated Merry Christmas :)

Asia: East and PacificHotels in Manila

Cost me 50 dollars a night at the marimar.. You can walk to the embassy from there.

The Miramar gets fully booked a month ahead, though, so best book ASAP if you're staying there. They're advertising rooms for 1,910 pesos a night too (it's on a sign right above their entryway, I think), so that'd be something to look into.

I stayed at the Bayview, and it was okay. The only real complaint that I have is the rudeness of that frontdesk guy. And if one has to be picky, bathroom fixtures could use some spiffing up. But otherwise, it was a great stay for me. My room was way up, so there was no traffic noise, and so it was as restful as a night-before-the-interview could be. But! If you've decided against staying there, I won't try to change your mind. Just wishing you luck on your hunt. I hear that Best Western is good, too, just sans a pool and gym.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNervous wreck. Interview date - can it be moved?

You've done immigration paperwork and you think passport paperwork is red-tape?

-laugh- oh yes. immigration paperwork means mailing stuff in. passport paperwork in manila? good heavens...
just think, getting a birth certificate will take more than half a day if you're lucky, unless you're willing to pay 6x the price to have them deliver it to you in 3-5 days. I chose the latter as it meant I could work and not waste time waiting in line. Unfortunately, I can't do the same for a passport...

Hey, the consulate won't schedule you an interview until you send them packet 3 indicating you're ready to have an interview. Of course that if you don't do that before your NOA2 expires you'll need to contact them and ask for an extension, which is usually easily granted. So go ahead and get your paperwork done and don't worry 'cus they won't schedule an interview for you before you're ready.

Thanks for all the replies. They've certainly done a lot in terms of calming down my nerves, but L&L, yours is just gold! This means I still have a modicum of control over when the interview date will be.

I'd love to do the interview at the soonest possible date, as I DO miss my hun.. but sometimes what we want and what we must do don't always coincide. Again, thanks all :) :P

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNervous wreck. Interview date - can it be moved?

once the visa is issued, you'll have 6 months to enter the US. Would that be enough time to wrap up things in your contry?

Actually, my concern isn't after the approval of the visa, but rather before. Approval comes after the interview, correct? And I would like to have the interview date moved to sometime after March, if possible (as statistics show that it would be February or March) because going to the embassy on a weekday during these months means missing the classes that I have to teach... Professional responsibility vs Personal gain.. I'd rather go with the latter, but.. I ought not.

I do dnot mean to burst ur bubble of joy, but people with NOA2s in Sept and Oct still do not have interview dates. Your Nov NOA2 will likely be Mar if not April. The average time between the Embassy receiving ur petition and the intervew date in Manila is 120 days. Good luck and the passport process is not the difficult. Payato

You so did not burst my bubble of joy. Rather, it's more of a comforting thing. :D The closer the interview date is to April, the better! I know we've no interview date set yet, but I'm guesstimating that it'd be around Jan/Feb (assuming a miracle) or March (assuming it goes with the mean). And if it happens to be around those dates, I'm in a lot of trouble. But! As you pointed out that it'll be March or April, then all's well. Thanks so much! That was very reassuring
(I really hope it's April...)

I wasn't expecting to receive the NOA2 email just yet. When I saw an email from CRIS, I was expecting an RFE. Seriously. When I saw that it was an approval, I experienced first-hand that "legs turned to jell-o" experience. Unfortunately, I am now a nervous wreck. I have a ton of paperwork to finish for this!

For one, I still don't have a passport. Call me a lazy bum, but, it's such a hassle to wade through red-tape.

For another, I have to clear myself from a scholarship obligation (complicated thing. much confusion, i should've been cleared years ago.)

And, this means the interview will be scheduled sometime January or February! I was hoping it'd be sometime after March, as I'm teaching, and I don't want to leave my kids (students) on a school-day. (This is the biggest problem). This led me to wonder, would it be possible to have the interview date postponed? I would love to get it over and done with sooner, but I have responsibilities that I would rather not pass on to others.. In the event that it's not possible, I'll do the interview, of course. But... I was just hoping..

i feel for you! and myself. I went to my medical last week, and they drew blood last thursday. My right arm looks at least as bad as yours! This, despite my telling the med tech person that I'm very difficult to get blood from.. She just said that she was picking "A nice vein".. When I showed my students my arm this morning, all of them winced and asked how come the person who took my blood wasn't trained..

I really hope it'll go away soon. it's way too unsightly.

Hi Gra. No need to come early. As sillygirl said, you can come late and still finish within the day. I just went early cuz I'm a morning person, and i like having my afternoons free (for lakwatsa!) The guards will "check" your bag for food (ala Harry Potter wand, but they won't really pry), so if you want to put in biscuits and all that inside, makakalusot ka. Just jam them near the bottom. I've seen people eating and drinking, pero always patago.

I had my cellphone (and ipod, and all the stuff needed to entertain a waiting person) with me. I suggest that you don't bring too much stuff, though.. In my case, I brought work din but I didn't manage to get a lick of it done.

Good luck! The medical really is painless. Just make sure you don't have coughs or colds para hindi mapagsuspetsahang TB or whatever... :)

i agree with Mike (dims)! Print out that pdf, it can come in really handy. I didn't know about coming in after lunch, as i came in the morning. the whole process took me about 3 hours.

If you have old xray films, you could bring those.. but you don't need to. Just tell them you don't have any ^_^
If you can bring a friend (who's also getting a medical), do so! Otherwise, better bring something to entertain yourself with. The waits can be pretty long.

Wow, i guess its hard how long you're going to wait or if you're waiting for a visa. "Everything Looks OK for now... and another "just wait if your visa arrives..." what if it takes for seem like forever. Why don't they just tell bluntly if one didn't pass or approved or under AR. Why can't they decide right away. I think for me its important to ask them politely whether we made it or not. "Congratulations!" is a clear answer but what if you get such words from the CO.
Why, i'm the one impatient   (Or Am I Overreacting what if i'm the one on the situation??)

But I really hope it means you are APPROVED! And the visa be on its way anytime soon. Best of LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS! That took away a load of stress out of you, I'm sure.

Hahay, too true! Everyone was telling me it went okay, that I probably got it, but I'd really rather not assume that I did, just in case. It's really hard for me to decide, because although the consul was really nice (He looked part-chinese), the interview went really really REALLy quickly. He didn't ask about jobs, or stuff about how well we knew each other. Just, asked how we got to know each other and we focused on that. We were laughing and all, and he even told us our relationship was "Romantic. Weird.. but romantic." It felt like it was just two minutes!! The people seated around "my" chair were all agog because I was back SO quickly. They couldn't believe I was done. And because I was done SO quickly, I'm even more nervous... Maybe the 5-year relationship was given consideration?

I'm not in a rush, though, so not really in panic mode yet. I won't be able to leave til May anyway, cuz my mom has to undergo a hystorectomy, and I have to be here for her since I'm her baby girl. At age 26. :innocent:

Lots of stress off my shoulders! I can eat again. And sleep! Woo!

Hi all. We (jackieadam and myself, and two other non-vj girls) finished with our interviews together today. we were in queue by about 430am, but only got in around 7 (which was okay.. that was our appointed time anyway. AND, because we were early and attentive, we were among the first 10 in the 7am slot). Some people inside the embassy are really mataray, but thankfully the prescreener, fingerprinter and consul were all nice.

The consul told me "Please wait til we call you again, good luck!". The same consul told my friend "Congratulations."
Now I'm paranoid. haha. I did pay the delbros thing, and the girl at window 37 did tell me "Everything looks okay.. for now. Just wait and see if your visa arrives." so I'm still hoping. Only one got AR, and she sort of knew it would happen because her st luke's test results didn't make it in time (she got her medical the day before!). 2 out of 3 companions isn't bad, so.. hopefullly it was actually 3 out of 4 people.

For now, I'd just like to think we got an OK :)
Time to make kulit the delbros page!

It seems DHL does that picking up at their office thing pretty often... I also had to pick mine up at the SM Fairview branch. And there was another girl there, too, picking up another packet 4! What were the chances, no? They said the package was undeliverable because they couldn't find our house.. Our house didn't walk around to hide! Fedex did the finding well enough. Oh well. Hopefully DELBROS will do better. If all things work out. ^_^

hi! i stayed at the bayview and had no problem. the staff from the valet parking attendant to the front desk staff had all been nice the time i was there  . next time u talk to any of them on the phone get the names before u start the conversation and give your complaints to the hotel manager when u get there (if u decide to check-in).
anyway, i saw a smaller hotel which is also across the street from the embassy, the Miramar hotel... it's much cheaper and since it is smaller, i guess the staff would be nicer as they have fewer guests to serve.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to get their names the next time I call. I saw the Miramar Hotel, too, but when I called them last month, they were already booked! A full month ahead! It shouldn't be shocking, as it IS at an ideal location and probably cheap too.. but I was still shocked. Hopefully the Bayview people will be nicer in person.. Sean has booked me online, but we're still waiting for confirmation.

Mike, I'm sorry about what happened.. I'm sure you'll find a way to make them change their minds. An appeal is possible, isn't it? After all you've been through, you deserve better! Good luck with the next step you'll take!

Gracy_byron, thank you for including us in your prayers.. We both need it. I've just stepped out of my month-long panic, as the forms my fiance sent have just arrived (after 1 month in transit via air mail..), but found myself in that stage of anxiety and stress that one faces a couple of days before the D-day.

Jackie, thanks for being around to talk with! It's been a calming experience, somewhat. Until I looked at my pile of papers and realized that I still have to label those pictures. Heh. I'll see you by the hotel!

Welcome back to our balik-bayans! PW and Sheriff Uling ^_^

Quick question for those who stayed at Bayview.. Is it really as bad as some people say? I've already had issues with the desk people when I called (gosh.. bastos yung guy, hung up on me!) so I'm having second thoughts about staying there, but the convenience of it being directly across the embassy is something... Dilemma! What say you guys?

hi.. i have a question that's been bugging me for a while now.
in one of the forms (i'm too lazy to check), they ask which of the given people are USCs, LPRs and all that..
My dad was petitioned by his parents long ago, and he got a greencard when I was small. But he came back to the Philippines to stay (he didn't like it there), and let his greencard expire. Do I say that he was an LPR but indicate that the gc expired? or do i just say he's none of the above?

Thanks in advance!

The medical is nothing more than a physical and not an OBGYN apointment. I keep seeing the post worried about the menstural cycle and it has no bearing what-so-ever on the Medical exam. Of all the ladies in this thread, I have not heard of any of them being affected by their menstural cycel but have heard many being concerned about it. If I remember right, they only made my fiancee get down to her panties and no further. Ken & Maria

My fiance's medical is scheduled for the 7th, and she got her monthly period on the 5th. Her plan is to make the appointment to complete as much as they will allow her to, and then return on the 12th to complete the physical once her period is done. I worry that the medical results won't make it to the embassy for her interview on the 14th. Do you think there could be any hang-ups, and is there anything she should be doing to insure that the results are forwarded to the embassy in time.
Thanks

i think they have to give a urine sample at the medical in which case the woman should not have her period as blood could get in the sample. usually the urine is tested for sugar, protein, and blood.

The urine was for a pregnancy test, though.. I was at the very last day of my period when I did my medical, and I had no problems. The only violent reaction came from the doc in the physical exam room. I guess she was afraid I would bleed all over her pristine-white sheets.. After being assured that I had next-to-no-bleeding going on, we proceeded with the physical.

Hi. i just finished with the second day of the physical exam. (Thanks Mik, dims1, for the tip). Really, the most torture-like part was the waiting.. I felt like my brain would leak after the third hour of doing nothing!

The physical went well, except for the blood-drawing part where the girl who took my blood left my arm bruised and battered.. We wondered if she really is licensed to practice! Gosh..

I'm happy to say that despite all the physical-exam-horror stories, it really isn't so bad. Just make sure you bring something to entertain yourself with. Preferably something that isn't so engrossing (some people don't hear their names being called cuz they're either deafened by their ipods, or merrily chatting away with fellow apps).

I'm going for the first day of the medical tomorrow at St Luke's. Quite scared, really, though I'm not sick or anything. My main worry is that as a kid, I got those Hepa-B vaccinations done at our school, but only 2 of the 3! Because of the lack of the third (we had a major economic slump then), the Heba-B test i got for my high school admissions showed a false positive (re-test proved it to be false.. hindi lang sya hula, hehe). What if something like this happens at the medical? *panic* I've lost vaccination records cuz that was like eons ago, and we also moved to a different house (maraming nawala during lipat-bahay)..

My sweetie tells me not to worry, and I try not to, but I'm a natural w-wart...

I was wondering if the embassy keeps Lorna's passport, how will she fly back to cebu with no photo id?

I'm pretty sure she has no ID with a photo except for her passport.
She has:

postal id
voters id
Nbi clearnance
birth certificate
marriage certificate
baptismal cert.
and maybe a college id from when she was in college a couple of years ago.

when i last flew to cebu, i only used my then-college id. postal and voter's id's should work as well. if she presents all of those, then she's good to go

I hope everyone is off to a great new year. Has anyone found out the reason for no interviews the first half of March ? I was just curious.

I'm guessing that it's not really a case of 'no interviews' the first half of March, but rather, a chance occurrence that we don't have many VJers who happened to land interviews then. There are a couple (patrick808.. Joone745..) , according to the list, but that's about it. ^_^

Well, good luck to you all. I've started revving up my nervous-engine, despite the interview being a couple of months away and having all papers on my side ready. Haha! First hurdle - The Medical. Sounds like a good title for a horror flick, no?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAfternoon at St. Luke's
If she's comfortable with arriving at around 5am, that would be okay. That's what I did, and I didn't find the process overly tedious. Just try to get her a copy of sillygirl's medical guide. I was finished by 930.

If she will arrive mid-morning, it might not be as good, because the lines are long.

If she will arrive in the afternoon, the process takes about 2 1/2 hours, at least from what I was told. The problem with taking the exam in the afternoon is that they (acquaintances who took the exam in the afternoon told me this, so it's not primary info, coming from me) were asked to return for their results in the afternoon, and some had to wait til 7pm. As opposed to morning people who may have to wait for just a while, or til lunchtime (mine was because of signature authentication things).

It's really her choice, but given a second chance, I'll still go in the morning. :)

Hi. You can take your medical exam early, although it is suggested that you not do it more than a month ahead of your schedule. You have to have your appiontment letter (or a print out of your appointment on the website) and your passport. And pictures! And yes, what was mentioned earlier - don't come when you have your period or you'll be asked to return another day.
