The OP has not asked for advice about the validity of his relationship nor what he should do to 'prove' who is fiancee is or isn't - he has asked for advice about what he can do to impress her and let her know he loves her. So, do not speculate on matters beyond the perimeters of the original post nor try to create controversy and drama where none exists. That is called trolling and is a violation of TOS.

Jarl, please do not start a new post on the same topic. Continue the discussion in the thread you have already started. It gets very confusing otherwise and you may end up not getting all of the information that you need.

PhilippinesFlooding in the Philippines
Here is an interesting link to an image showing the degree of rainfall experienced by the Philippines during Tropical Storm Ketsana:

http://earthobservat...ew.php?id=40346

"On September 26, 2009, in a matter of hours, Tropical Storm Ketsana dropped a month’s worth of rain on the Philippine capital of Manila. Streets resembled rivers, covered by water that was chest high and still rising, according to news reports. Over the next few days, death tolls climbed from dozens to over 200, with more casualties expected and search and rescue efforts continued. As of September 28, more than 100,000 people had taken refuge in evacuation centers, and more than 330,000 were believed to be affected.

"The estimates, acquired by multiple satellites, are calibrated with rainfall measurements from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite in the Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis. The highest rainfall amounts—more than 600 millimeters (23.6 inches)—appear in blue. The lightest amounts appear in pale green. Gray shading indicates island topography of the Philippines.

"Rainfall occurs over the entire region shown in this image. The heaviest pocket of rain appears off the west coast of southern Luzon, over the South China Sea. A large expanse of heavy rain stretches from that locality across southern Luzon. An area of heavy rain also occurs immediately south of the capital city. The flooding that struck the region in late September 2009 was the worst in more than 40 years. Officials declared a “state of calamity” in Manila and 25 provinces affected by the storm".

Blatant racist posts have been removed.

The rest of you - stop the insults and personal attacks. They add absolutely nothing to the discussion. Bickering back and forth is the behaviour of children, not adults. You can discuss personal opinions and the different reactions to tragic circumstances you have observed without insulting and denigrating the beliefs or viewpoints of others. If this behaviour continues this thread will be closed.

If you want to get into off-topic discussions that do not relate to this thread, please move the topic to Off-Topic instead of hijacking this thread. Yes, what has happened in the Philippines is a tragedy; it is sad that others feel the need to take a tragic situation and turn it into a political soapbox for their own personal agendas and ignore the tragedies.

PhilippinesJust venting
This is a serious thread raising some very real concerns. The moderators agree that there are many individuals who forget that the purpose of this forum is to help one another during our own visa journeys. Reading posts like one above that said some threads are boring and need spicing up really concerns me. As I have said innumerable times, if you have nothing useful to add to a thread, then don't post - move on. There is room in Off Topic for those who want things 'spicier' but the immigration forums is not the proper venue for someone to try and 'spice' things up. If that is your purpose for being here, you are in the wrong place.

The moderators don't 'patrol' the forums - we respond to reports from VJ members - so we may not know when something is going awry in a thread. Please, those of you who have concerns about what is happening in the forums - if you see insulting behaviour, someone making fun of another's sadness or tragedy, taunting newcomers because they don't know the immigration system, personal attacks, racially inappropriate comments or other inappropriate behaviour, use the Report button at the left hand side of the page and let us know. If we don't know it is happening, we can't step in and do something to correct it.

So, thank you to the OP for raising this valuable issue and I am now re-opening this thread. Those of you who don't want to be a responsible member of this community can go and 'play' in the Off Topic forum instead.

i'd encourage her to do what she wants to do... give her the financial means to go home and explicitly show her how to book a ticket if she doesn't know and then let her make the decision so she isn't talking about it as if she has no say in it or no means. just make it so she can't say anything about going home as if a ball and chain is attached.

if she does go home, file for divorce and be sure to be kind enough to send her the final decree so she knows where she stands.

Philippinescredit card debts
There seem to be several decisions happening that have resulted in living beyond your means. Resolving the problem will mean making some hard decisions that may be uncomfortable for the short run but will definitely help in the long run. Your suggestions of sending the daughter to public school along with finding a cheaper place to live are definitely good ones. With credit card debt that high you will be accumulating significant interest payments that may eventually far exceed the amount of the original debt. The longer you take to address ithis problem and pay off the debt, the more the amount will escalate.

You might find it useful to sit down together with a credit counselor and discuss your financial situation and see about working out a repayment plan. Burying your head in the sand doesn't make it go away - it just makes it become a bigger and bigger problem until it becomes unavoidable on its terms, not yours. The stress of trying to live with this kind of debt can also have unwelcome repercussions. You definitely need to be pro-active about this. Good luck.

Yes, I'm serious. If someone is making a post that makes you feel a need to defend yourself, then don't respond but report them to the moderators instead. If two people start bickering back and forth exchanging insults then all parties involved will share equally in administrative action. If anyone choses to ignore a warning and continue to make inappropriate posts then administrative action will also be taken. Insulting a mod doesn't help you any either.
