PhilippinesIs Friend's Fiancee Scamming Him? How to convince him?

One post has been removed at the OP's request - VJ Moderation

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moderator's hat off . . .
One of the saddest things in the world isn't 'being alone'; it is 'being alone in a relationship'.  I am sure there are many here who have been with someone they love who doesn't return the feelings and you just keep pouring more and more of yourself into this big black empty hole, getting nothing in return until even getting negative responses appear to be 'something' you can hang onto.  It is a hard lesson to learn that sometimes even if you do end up spending the rest of your life 'alone', it is still a better and happier fate then spending it alone with someone who doesn't care.  The unfortunate thing is that no matter how many people tell you or warn you ahead of time, or even during, you aren't able to hear them and are not willing to accept that there is truth in what they say, because that means not only are you giving up on the relationship, you are giving up on the 'hope' that this relationship can ever work.  You are giving up the dream of happiness which, until you reach the breaking point, keeps you trying and trying and trying to make it work.  Your friend is not just afraid of being alone; he is afraid of losing the dream that he can be happy.
You have done what you can to show him the truth, and he may even agree with many of your words, but he has not reached that breaking point yet where the pain of being in a hurtful relationship is worse than the fear that comes from abandoning his dreams.  He still thinks the fear of being alone is the worst fate.  There's not much you can do until he learns otherwise, except to be there for him and to help pick up the pieces, afterwards.
Good luck to you both.
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIt's all greek to me
Well, look at it this way - you have a quick interview date and that means that you will get to see your sweetheart even sooner:-). At many Consulates there is a long wait for the interview just to be scheduled so you are ahead of their game. Just take things one form at a time; write yourself out a checklist of your own and include what you have to do to get that item checked off your official check list. You will find out that some things are very easy (passport, birth certificates, etc.) and some take a little bit of planning, but it will all begin to make a lot more sense. You should be fine:-)! Good luck at the interview!
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOk that tears it
Truly, I can sympathize with your feelings. (check out my time line if you doubt it). I will add that this is the first in a series of long waits that you can expect dealing with USCIS. I would have loved to have the possibility of my K-1 getting approved in as little as 3 or 4 months! Instead the process took 9 months. We started this process 5 years ago - and I am only now at the stage of removing conditions. Waiting is not fun, and it isn't fair because others who file after you do get approved ahead of you all the way down the line. It is also not fair that we end of paying more money and getting worse service. So, go ahead and vent - and try to remember that there will always be someone better off and worse off than you. I hope you receive your approval very soon. Good luck on your journey.
QUOTE (clatita @ May 15 2008, 06:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hi
can we get married with the k1 visa (if we are muslems )
You can only get married with the K-1 visa after it has been activated at the Port of Entry (POE) to the US and you get married in the US within 90 days of your arrival. You cannot get married outside of the US, nor can you get married and use a K-1 visa to enter the US as you would no longer be a fiancee. It makes no difference what your religious affiliation is for the K-1 visa. I do not know if there are additional concerns that need to be addressed as a Muslim using a K-1 visa to enter the US in order to get married. Hopefully, someone here who is Muslim will answer and offer you that information.
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNovember Filer, still no NOA2???
The website dates are at best a very poor guideline. Many of us end up outside of their processing dates before we get our NOA2s. You are only a few days outside of the dates, but since you are now outside of the date you can call USCIS and ask them to investigate:-). Is it usual now (after IMBRA) for the US fiance to have a biometrics appointment? I haven't heard of this, but if that is the case, security checks from biometrics can really add a lot of time to an application. It can be several months just waiting for the proper security information to come back and be matched with the file. I would definitely get in contact with USCIS - or have your fiance do it since he is the one in the States - and ask them to check up on your file. It may just 'shake things loose'. Good luck.
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnd so it ends...
I am so sorry for your loss - because I know that is just what it is - a loss, not just of a woman you love but of plans for a future and life together. There is no judgment for the choices your fiancee made, but even if you had wished to pursue a visa for her you would have come up against this:
http://www.uscis.gov...5d903c5d492d0a4
INA: ACT 212 - GENERAL CLASSES OF ALIENS INELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE VISAS AND INELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION; WAIVERS OF INADMISSIBILLITY
Sec. 212. [8 U.S.C. 1182]
(a) Classes of Aliens Ineligible for Visas or Admission.-Except as otherwise provided in this Act, aliens who are inadmissible under the following paragraphs are ineligible to receive visas and ineligible to be admitted to the United States:
.....
D) Prostitution and commercialized vice.-Any alien who-
(i) is coming to the United States solely, principally, or incidentally to engage in prostitution, or has engaged in prostitution within 10 years of the date of application for a visa, admission, or adjustment of status,
Truly, I am sorry. Good luck to you.
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWho wants to join my angry rant thread?
Just to clarify and not to say your friend was telling you untruths, but Canadians go through exactly the same process as everyone else. Being a Canadian makes no difference - we are still aliens and treated that way. We are still required to jump through all the same hoops as any other foreigner. If it were as easy as showing a marriage license all of us would have gone that route, but we too do the K-1 and the CR-1s to be with our loved ones. We wait, too. As Rebeccajo so ably said, there will come a time when all of this will be part of your 'history' and will fade as you discover and create your new life together.
Just a reminder, please . . . you can only use your native language in your Regional Forums. When you are posting in a forum other than your regional forum you need to write in English.
Welcome to America. Your next steps will include applying for a Social Security Number in about 10 days or so (your file needs to be updated in immigration files before SSA can issue a SSN); getting married and filing to Adjust Your Status (AOS) with form I-485, and applying for Employment Authorization (EAD) and Advance Parole (AP) at the same time. You can read about those in this forum: http://www.visajourn...php?showforum=7 . The Guides at the top of the forum will be very useful to you and your husband so read them carefully and follow their directions.
Good luck.
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI am outraged!
Agreed - don't hate the players - hate the game. Let's leave the name calling out of this.
The OP is frustrated - we've ALL been there. If there is anything that could have been done, any avenue that can be explored, any option that can be pulled, any buttons that can be pushed, any contacts that could be exploited in this immigration process - they have all been done, over and over and over and over. It isn't that we are complacent - it is that we are experienced. We all banged our heads against the immigration wall, especially when we first started this process. I know we wrote letters to the Service Center heads, to representatives, to the head of USCIS (under a different name then!), complained everywhere to anyone we thought could help. Heck, when I started the fiancee process it was still TSC who was doing visas and there was a whole yahoo group started by people who were angry about how slow TSC was! They even protested and picketed in front of the Service Center. We ended up being outside of the processing time which was 280 days then. Believe me, I do understand your process. We then had to wait 22 months to process our AOS, then 12 months to get conditions removed (while CSC was processing them in 3 to 4 months). The worst of the waiting is the feeling of helplessness knowing that your future happiness is in someone else's hands - and you have no way of either influencing it or finding out what is going on along the way. Believe me, I understand!
Go ahead, try whatever you want to do. Write everyone from the President down, go to the media (there was a media flurry about 2 years ago where VJers actually were interviewed on a radio call in show about the problems with getting visas for their loved ones), maybe you will succeed where thousands of others haven't. At the very least you will feel like you are doing something and that helps. I sincerely wish you luck because if you succeed then it will help others. I hope you will understand, however, why I will remain cynical about your success. Been there, done that, worn out the t-shirt.
Good luck to you and your fiancee on your visa journey.
