Hi everyone.
Please update. Just received the interview letter in the mail. The interview date is August 26. Local office Honolulu.

Mel143 it's good to have you aboard. My local office is the same as yours. I think that your n400 will override your 10 year green card. Good luck.

Good luck on the interview Caramel Y!  Your interview date happens to be on my birthday so I'm sure all will go well for you :)

I am so happy to report that we received the case update e-mail this afternoon that my husband was scheduled for his oath ceremony.  The letter with the date and time was sent out today!

Thank God!!!  This also means that we'll be able to upgrade the F2A petition for me on the day he becomes a USC dancin5hr.gif

For those who may be curious why our N-400 was processed so quickly, my husband had zero issues (no criminal past or any other issues even though he travels a lot for his work) and he is based in Brooklyn, NY. Brooklyn, Queens and other boroughs seem to be processing N-400 interviews/oaths at a much faster clip than for those located in Manhattan.

Once we get the oath ceremony date I'll post it so it can be updated on the table.  I wish everyone here a speedy and successful naturalization process!

Hi there! Congrats to you and your husband on passing your interview! I hope you get word of your oath shortly.

I have a question about what the IO said. I thought they were only concerned about trips lasting longer than 6 months out of the country. It's sort of strange that she wanted to confirm no trips over 2 months. By any chance did he ask them why that number?

Hello!

The IO wasn't the one who commented on the two months, rather the two months was a personal observation that I made based on my husband's travels.

Sorry for the confusion oops8rh.gif

It is correct that they are concerned about any single trip that was over 6 months in duration.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 May 2013 Filers

Just wanted to provide an update.  My husband went for his interview today at 26 Federal Plaza in NYC.

His appointment was at 9:30 a.m. and he got out right before noon.  He said there was a lot of people by the time he got there.

He passed the tests (written, oral & questions - he nailed the first 6 in a row dancin5hr.gif) and they said they will recommend him for approval but IO said she needs to double check all his travel dates first.

They took copies of all the pages of his current and expired passports.  My husband is a live sound engineer and travels frequently outside the US for work usually only for a few days at a time.

The IO confirmed that my husband did not exceed the total days permitted and not one trip lasted longer than 2 months but he did travel a little over 700 days total in the span of 5 years so they want to double check this.

It had taken us hours to compile all of his travel dates and match them to the stamps in his passports and we had a few travel dates that we didn't even find stamps for.

We had to attach a separate Excel sheet to his N-400 application as he had 51 trips that were over 24 hours in duration!  I really hope they don't take a long time to complete the verification...

So I'm happy but I am still a bit on edge until he actually receives the oath letter. ClockWatch2.gif

Have a great day everyone and I'll keep you posted!

Congrats! That is very quick isn't it? I got an email saying I was in line today, getting excited now. So your hubby didn't get an in line email?
I was chatting to a friend today that became a citizen in 2004 - it took her 20 months for everything to go through. USCIS have certainly improved smile.png

No he didn't sign up for the e-mail notifications.  I could not imagine us having to wait 20 months like your friend did back in 2004.  We are anxiously waiting for my husband to get his citizenship so that it will help speed up the I-130 petition process for me.

That's great that you got your in line today and I am keeping my fingers crossed that all the May filers will get through with their applications quickly!

US Citizenship General DiscussionTotal time outstide the United States when applying for Citizenship

Your aunt qualifies so no need to worry smile.png

You will list the travel info for each trip in Part 7 of the form.

Just for perspective, when my husband was applying for US citizenship due to his work, in the 5 years he had traveled 48 trips for a combined total of 694 days.

It took us a couple of hours to locate the travel dates for each trip.

He had to bring all his expired passports and the current one and they took one day to review the travels.  A couple of days later we received the e-mail that he was being scheduled for the oath ceremony.

CanadaCanadians and CRA t4s

I understand.  Normally the CRA is pretty good with loading the T-4's so just keep checking.

In an absolute worst case scenario and I'm just throwing this idea out as an option:  do you happen to have the last paystub you received from that employer?

In the event that you don't have access to the T-4 you could work off of that last paystub when filing your taxes online.  If the CRA finds any discrepancies they would correct it and notify you via a re-assessment.

CanadaCanadians and CRA t4s

Hi there,

Can you contact your former employer and get them to send you another copy of the T-4 to your US address or a scanned copy via e-mail?

As for the CRA it may take them a week or two to load the what they receive from the employers.

CanadaGoing to miss Canada

I miss Canada big time!  I've been living in NYC since the end of Dec 2013.  It's a far cry from Montreal where I was raised and lived most of my life. :(

Imagine, I leave, and now the PQ is finally ousted and the Habs are in the playoffs!  I second Erica in that I also miss a good ice cappuccino from Tim Horton's.  I tried a couple of them in Manhattan and God it tasted awful!

Seriously though, it's been a tough adjustment for me because I am really not loving NYC but I'm managing.  My husband is so understanding and supportive. He went through a similar journey when he left our native country of Trinidad to immigrate to the US a few years ago so he gets the homesick feeling.  I can't wait to go back for visits once I get my green card.  I really miss my mom the most...

I haven't made any friends here yet but I know I'll eventually make some new connections.  I have such awesome family and friends back in Canada and it's great that we still keep in touch regularly.

It's been great to read this thread :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsvery worried and stressed!!

Hi everyone,  my wife and I got our interview on  june 19th,2013, then they said there they need my medical ( I had to wait 2 months to be able to call the clinic to see if they sent it to the consulate ) on  August 14th, 2013, I went  to take my passport with the green paper and the domex receipt  and they told me there I need to wait 4 or 6 weeks to get  my visa and passport , but it?s 5 weeks already  and nothing so today, I bought a pin ( in the banco popular) to call them  to know what?s wrong  and they said that I?m not approved yet, they need to check my medical and check if they need something else

That worries me a lot and I feel so stressed. I hope somebody who has gone through this help me . thank you

It appears they put you in AP - Administrative processing.  It's hard to say when exactly they will finish with the extra checks but try to not stress.  There are quite a few people of VJ who have been or are currently in AP status.  It really tries one's patience but believe that it will all work out positively.

Sorry I cannot offer any concrete experience but I'm sure others may be able to give you their firsthand perspective.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPersonal experience

GUYS.... Lawyers don't have any special "in" with the USCIS. What you are paying for is the document prep.  Having an attorney doesn't put you in a priority bin. The attorney won't sit on the phone and get your NVC number. They wait for everything in the mail.

I have an attorney.  I have a special circumstance and I definitely need him for the document prep but not until after our interview.  He sent me an email last week with a checklist of things I will need for the NVC. I am an April filer.  I'm not approved yet.  He is on top of things.   In the begining, I was also told the approval would be about 6 months. I have it in a few emails... but I was also told that nobody has any control over the approvals. He told me he was going by his experience.  After being on this site for years, I know that the USCIS does what it wants. There are lots of threads on this site about having a lawyer.

Having an attorney doesn't mean you can sit back and do nothing. I have made 3 inquiries through my local senators office and I call tier 2 pretty often. I don't expect that from a lawyer. I want to know, so I get busy with phone calls.

I totally agree with this post.  I also have a lawyer due to mitigating circumstances that I personally would rather have a lawyer deal with.  However this does not mean one should not double check everything the lawyer submits on your behalf such as forms or question the process.  I verified the entire I-130 package before the lawyer submitted it and I caught an error; they are human.  My lawyer didn't take it personally and was impressed that I am taking such an active role in the process.

This is my and my husband's future on line so I better be actively involved.

I read up on all the requirements for each stage and ensure we submit everything properly to avoid any potential RFE's.  So could I have done this on my own without a lawyer?  You bet!  But when your case isn't a straightforward one and your visa approval hinges on a waiver approval, I will pay money to hire someone who is successful with those types of cases.

No lawyer should promise any client that they can guarantee a faster processing...that is highly irresponsible of them!

Also, don't just hire the first lawyer you consult with.  Research them, see if they have been sanctioned or even disbarred, and consult with at least two or three before selecting your lawyer.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAny Suggests?

Hey, thanks for your feed back. Just a quick questions what's an A P?

AP stands for Administrative Processing.  AP is a status assigned once you attend the interview at the embassy and the embassy does not approve or deny the visa immediately.

Some countries or particular cases are flagged for AP even if every thing seems ok with the petition from the Embassy's point of view.

AP can take as little as a couple of days or weeks or at worst a couple of years.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCR1 Approved Today!! Cautiously Elated...

I can't believe it.  My husband was approved this morning at the embassy in Kingston Jamaica.  The CO invited me into the interview and honestly I am so glad he did.  He said he was concerned because my husband could not remember the date of my last trip to Jamaica.  He just knew the month- so the CO told him to come get me when he found out I was waiting outside.  He was a really nice guy.  He asked me to give him the dates of some pictures; he asked me how many times since my wedding have I been to see my husband- and I said 8 and 14 times total.  He was impressed by that because he said, and I quote, " and it's not like you are coming so often to see family or anything right?  So you must be coming like every 2-3 months."  And I said yes and with that my husband got approved.  Not only that but the CO said we would have the visa in a week so we could fly back to the US together.

What a long and tiring day- but oh so worth it.

Thank you VJ for all your support and guidance throughout this journey.  I couldn't have made it without yall.

BethAnn

Truly happy for you!  You've waited long enough dancin5hr.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhats Happening!!!

Hello Ya'll!

Please I need someone who's more knowledgeable to advise me on this as am just freaking tired. i130 was filed since March 2013 and my priority date states 14th March. On 31st of October case was transferred to local office and was told to wait for at least 60 days. What I don't understand is that other people within the same category as I am have gotten their NOA2 and I don't! Its annoying to sit back and not know whats going on. Is this normal? Is there any March 2013 filer here who's going through the same wait time as I am? I'd need your input so I know am not alone. I guess waiting for an approval is the longest of all the stages, just to get an i130 approved is taking forever! protest6wz.gif

I hear you and there are hundreds of March/April filers alone who are still waiting for NOA2 so you are definitely not alone.

Here are some recent major factors that have caused us stand alone USC petitions to have been put aside until recently.

Is it fair?  Hell to the no!  But it is what it is...

DACA petitions.

TPS (Temporary Protected Status) granted for the Philippines so petitions with beneficiaries of the Philippines are being processed very quickly now,

F2-A category I-130's (landed permanent residents petitioning for spouses and children under 21) were also being processed at a crazy rate of speed in order to use up the excess of visa numbers from past years.

A bunch of petitions were transferred in the past few weeks from NBC to the various service centres in a feeble attempt balance out their workload.  Ours has been sitting in Nebraska since they transferred it there from Vermont since mid-September.

We need to stay positive and focused that our turn will soon come to get our NOA2.  You're right in that waiting for the NOA2 seems to take forever and a day but you'll get it soon I believe.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhere are they in I130?

Officially? Petitions filed on or before 12 February 2013

Unofficially? Data from VJ indicates that most February filers are already out the door, they are now working on March and April filers willy-nilly and getting ready to throw May and June into the mix within the next month or so.

Why the discrepancy? So that the USCIS can cover their @$$ and not have to do service requests for all of the March and April filers who have been waiting 8 and 9 months.

Totally agree with this!  They are now starting to transfer many July petitions as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 APPLICATION APPROVED IN 13 DAYS!!! ^___^

Definitely congratulations to the OP and her husband!  Most likely it's because the OP is from the Philippines and thanks to the TPS they are getting adjucated much more quickly.

This goes to show that USCIS can adjucate petitions almost as fast as the speed of light when given an order wow.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports4 months since tranfer

I'm in your boat.  We got transferred in Sept 2013 from Vermont to Nebraska and we're still waiting.  According to USCIS we're still in their processing timeframe...so frustrating!!!

I am hoping it won't take much longer but there is no way to know what they will do.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 transferred to Nebraska, other Questions

Hey all,

My wife and I applied with the I-130 on May 31st, 2013 and our case was received and transferred to the USCIS National Benefits Center on June 3rd. For a while we didn't hear anything, however last Friday, (January 3rd, 2014) we received some mail from the National Benefits Center. As we have seen happening quite often here, our case was transferred to the Nebraska Service Center to help speed up the process. However, we saw many people receive this notification mid-2013, or sometime in September 2013. Now we just have a few things we'd like to have cleared up with some help from our friends here at VisaJourney!

1.) Since I saw a lot of these Nebraska Service Center transfers last year, we were wondering if many people have been approved since they have been transferred and how long it took to be approved after being transferred to the Nebraska Service Center?

2.) We have also seen a lot of people mentioning PD (Priority Date?) and F2A. If someone could help us out with this, it would be great. We are not completely clear on what PD and F2A mean. And if PD is Priority Date, we are wondering what this is, as on the letter we recently received, the "Priority Date" box is empty.

3.) We have been pretty much out of the loop on this as it has been about 6 months since we heard anything, and now receive this. Will we receive another notice when our case has been received at the Nebraska Service Center?

4.) Also, we would love to hear from others that are still waiting at the Nebraska Service Center, or if you have already been approved and how long it took everybody. We checked on the USCIS website, we are still at the Initial Review Stage.

Any and all help is much appreciated! We understand a lot of these questions have been answered, but as many, or all, of you know, scrolling through page after page and topic after topic is really tedious and sometimes best to sort this out on a case by case basis. We really appreciate everyone's help and wish the best for everybody!

Thanks,

T+J

Hi there,

PD = Priority Date

F2A = category for US permanent residents who are petitioning for their spouse or child under 21.

A lot of the transfers to Nebraska that happened in September were those were under the F2A category.  The vast majority of them have gotten their I-130 petitions approved.  The PD only applies to them as those in the F2A category must wait for a visa number to become available to them and it is based on their priority date.  The PD is the day that USCIS inputs the receipt of their I-130 into their systems.  In August 2013 the visa number for the F2A category became current and the USCIS pushed through as many I-130's as possible to use up the extra visa numbers that had been accumulating for years.  That explains why a whole bunch of F2A's were approved so quickly.

USC's are immediately eligible for a visa number once their I-130 is approved so no additional wait time.  This is why you wouldn't likely see any date in the Priority Date field of your NOA if the petitioner is a USC.

In the past couple of months a lot of I-130 petitions filed by USC's have been transferred from the NBC to the Nebraska, Texas and California service centres.

People are getting approved in all service centres but Nebraska is the slowest of them all.  You will receive an official Transfer notice in the mail confirming when your petition has been transferred to Nebraska.

Petitions are being approved and it looks like they are mainly working on those filed March through June at the moment based on the approvals being posted on VJ.

Several are those with beneficiaries of the Philippines due to the typhoon they suffered last year - these are being fast tracked.

Our petition was transferred from Vermont to Nebraska in mid-September 2013 and we're still waiting for an approval (my husband is the USC).  Our date received was July 2.

Hope this helps.

CanadaVisiting?
I'm going to post here as well and see if any Canadians can give me their take on the situation...

My Fiancé and I are about to send in our package, and I have my vacation booked to see him for Christmas. Since we are only JUST mailing the I-129F petition, I'm wondering if when I cross the boarder should I mention that we have just applied for the K1 visa and are awaiting our approval?

I don't want to go to the boarder and say I'm visiting a 'boyfriend' when I've just applied for a Fiancé visa, but at the same time because I'm driving to North Dakota (2 hours from me) and flying out of there to save money, I don't want to be turned away from the boarder.

I am only going to see him for 2 weeks (dec.22- jan 7) should I still bring a letter from my landlord just stating I've given her post dated cheques and a letter from my employer stating I am due back at work in January? I worry far more than I probably should but i just want to make sure I get there for Christmas with him and his family.

Thanks everyone!

CanadaExtend his stay
My fiancé is sponsoring me to go to the states, he is currently in Canada visiting me and is supposed to go back on the 10th. I was wondering how we could extend his stay? Our visa is supposed to be processed by July 4th but it seems as though everyone's is takin longer. He wants to stay a little longer and his employer is fine since he's owed more time off anyway. What do we do? Who do we contact? Any advice would really help. Thanks everyone.

Canadavisit while waiting for NOA2 I-129f
Thank you everyone, though it seems I have made myself unclear. I don't intend to lie to the border control I was half joking that I wouldn't care about coming back to the job I have. Also I know I have to do the medical and everything here I was simply asking if I could just visit until we receive the noa2 and bring it back with me.
Or is that a big problem at this stage in the visa to visit for more than a few weeks?

Canadavisit while waiting for NOA2 I-129f
Hello Everyone!

My fiancé and I sent in our I-129F in January, received our NOA1 January 25/2013 and are now sitting around picking our noses waiting for the NOA2 and Interview dates.
I know that we are essentially allowed to visit for up to 180 days (or 6 months) and I was wondering if I can do that while waiting for the noa2, and once he receives it, I can just take it on home with me and go to the interview?

Do I need special papers to visit that long or do I just book me a trip and set off? What are the chances of the border police laughing at me and giving me a big ol' boot back to Canada?

I have my own place here that I'm sure my gf would love to rent for a few months while I'm gone, and a job that I have no real desire to keep (though that probably shouldn't be mentioned to the crossing guards, lol)

Is this realistic? I just really miss being with my fiancé, though I'm sure everyone understands that.

Any advice is great, thanks all!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsYet to receive NOA1

Did you send your Package with a tracking number to tell by USPS whether it even arrived at the destination? Has your cheque been cashed yet? They have a month to send out an NOA1 and to be honest my Fiance never recieved a hard copy. We called and they just kept asking why it was so important to recieve a hard copy if we have our case number so I gave up that fight.

Look in to make sure they recieved your packet, and make sure you sent it to the right address. If you followed the instructions properly and made a copy you may be able to get ahold of someone and re-submit your original package. Good luck!

CanadaMedical and Interview timing in Montreal

It's 1-2  months from interview date to interview.  Mine was only a month away.  Others have been 2 months.  Depends on the openings for Montreal.  People have gotten case complete, then an interview date 2 days later for an interview at the end of the next month.

I still can't believe it takes these doctors that 3 weeks to get you your results.  Medisys does it in 3 days.  Dr. Cheema in Vancouver gives you the results NEXT day.  3 weeks later is a long time.

Thanks for the info..

im from Alberta so i guess ill be traveling to Vancouver couple of weeks ago just to be on the safe side..

CanadaMontreal Interviews 2014

I was living in Alberta and now I'm in Colorado.

I stayed at Best Western on Rue Drummond.  I think it was $99/night with my AMA card.  It's a 10 min walk to both Medisys and for the consulate.

Did you have your medical doen in Montreal? Just curious how long dies it take for medical results to reach embassy.

Will it be safe to have medical done couple of days before interview?

CanadaApproved Canadian - Medical and Interview Review

If you're medical is in a few weeks, you will just need your:

Tdap (make sure it's the Tdap and not just TD), MMR (MR and MM are not enough, you need an MMR), and Varicella or verbal disclosure that you had chicken pox. It is different for different age groups, but this was only required for me (26 y/o). If you're doing your medical with Dr. Cheema, they will send you a document on how to prepare.

If you don't have records, you can get tested for immunity. I can't remember what it's called, but it's a blood test and usually has a 24-48 hour turnaround. I would get that done ASAP so you don't wait until the last minute. I got my Tdap the week before my medical, but I knew I had to do it because it's a booster shot that only lasts 10 years and I was due for it. Everything else was fine and I had old records luckily.

Good luck!

thankyou for the info! i guess i will talk to my family doctor right away and get those if not i will get it done during medical.

CanadaPaying fees with TD account?

So I have to say, two TD  branch agents in the Vancouver area are detached from the reality of what their bank offers

 yea

for those using TD Bank in the US and TD Canada Trust in Canada, do you have to call the hotline every time you want to transfer funds.  Those using RBC said they can do this online with their accounts linked. To me that would be the much easier option. ((plan is to have a reoccurring amount transferred each pay day...))

In my mind I'm thinking not having access to a physical branch wouldn't be a problem (no TD Banks in MI), is there any reason I would need a branch?  I try to do as much online as I can....

Thanks :)

yes unlike RBC we have to actually call a number but i haven't waited for more than 2 seconds every time i have called..
