Congrats to everyone moving further along in this process.

Darren and Crissy, how did it go in Hartford? We'll be heading up there next week and are anxious to know more details.
Thanks!

Hartford was okay, I think that they schedule about 5 people every hour (at the same time!) so getting there early helps. I had to wait 1.5 hours before I was called for interview. I parked behind the building on the 8 hour meter but you can only add 2 hours at a time so I had to keep running out to add more money. I was lucky not to get a ticket since I was being interviewed one time it ran out! Daily parking is $8 or $10 nearby. I used the meter and it cost $3.50 for 3.5 hours total.

After the interview if all goes well, you wait to be called to schedule an oath ceremony which took another hour but was better than waiting for a letter to arrive in the mail!

The interviewer was very friendly and asked for tax returns, proof that I paid my 2009 tax bill, proof of alimony payments and details of a court case when I was 12 which I can hopefully now put behind me!! I took tax transcripts (from the IRS in Norwalk), printouts of most recent bank statements and a court transcript from the UK which covered everything fortunately.

Reading test was "Who lives in the White House" and writing test was "The President lives in the White House"

Questions were :

Who was the first President
Who is the Govenor of CT

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 December 2011 FILERS

This month is almost over if I get anything it would be for May the interview I'm thinking. I have not seen many updates from NYC filers in other months most are still waiting.
But seriously if NYC is so Busy they should hire more employees!.

Here is the list of NYC Filers that created timelines.

Someone from November has an interview on April 4th but someone from October is still waiting (or has not updated their timeline).

At least it looks like the oath is only a couple of weeks after interview for most people.

JUST went to the USCIS Page to check on the timeline for N-400 in NYC and this is what they have Field Office Processing Dates for New York City NY as of: January 31, 2012 {N-400 Application for Naturalization August 14, 2011 } so they are working with cases now from august 2011!!!!! This ppl Are super Behind Schedule! Jesus Christ!.

Sorry, that looks about right - the last person scheduled for interview in NYC was in early November so it is possible you have another month to wait. Then again, all cases are different so you could be earlier.

Unfortunately lots of people don't fill in and update their timeline which limits the available data.

Good Luck!

So what part of TX are you going to? It's bigger than the whole UK, but wish you were headed near us.
I see you have an interview. Darn!

Just realized Saturday was our joint anniversary of mailing off the I-129F and starting this journey four years ago. And Cambridge still leads Oxford. ::sigh::

We land in San Antonio, then spend a few days in Austin. Anywhere near you?

I was kind of hoping to have everything completed within 4 years but I will be running a little over.

There is still time to snatch a last minute win if you get your interview arrives soon and have your oath on the same day so it isn't over quite yet!

I hope that I only win by only a few days :)

Good Luck!

Yes it is...I wish we could do the interview there instead of driving all of those hours to the capital!

It is strange that we can use a NY field office but have to drive 2 hours to Hartford, CT for interview and probably again for oath. There are a number of offices in NY which are closer!

My husband got freaked out after talking to some of his co-workers today and is really worried about proving he didn't have to register for selective service. I went into "think like USCIS mode" and started searching for proof that he entered at the age of 26. We have his old passport with the entry stamp in it but it's hard to read the last digit of the year and it looks like "200 ". After some more digging in a long forgotten miscellaneous immigration folder filled mostly with extra copies of passports and birth certificates I found the I-94 card from 4+ years ago! Hopefully that should do the trick.

I was pretty proud of myself but it only made my husband a little less nervous. I think it will be ok but I have the form "If you feel you have been wrongly denied a right or privilege because of selective service" ready to go just in case.

If your husband entered on a K1 visa he was not eligible to register for selective service until the "Resident Since" date on his green card. The K1 is a non-immigrant visa so he would have had to wait until after AOS.

I planned a holiday in TX for late March (hoping my appointment was early April - which it is!). Today I get a bio appointment for late March while I am on vacation!! :o

Let's hope I can get an early bio!!!

My appointment was 12PM on 3/26 and I showed up today (3/15) at 9AM and just handed my letter to the security guard  . He picked up that I was early but I said I was going to be in Texas that week and I didn't have time to reschedule since my interview is 4/9. There was no problem - the office was quiet so I was in and out in 10 mins.

Port Chester, NY is a very good field office, they didn't complain last time I had my bio done there in Jan 2011 for ROC. I got my dates mixed up and turned up a day late. :bonk:

United KingdomCSA payments from the US
QUOTE (Dave and Jess @ Jun 22 2008, 06:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi folks,

I have a CSA deduction from earnings order in place (Voluntary). Does anybody know how things work woth child support once I move to the US. My boy's mother agreed to lift the order when I am ready.

Is it just down to me make the payments at the agreed rate? if so what the best way.. Uk Forex or something like that?

Thanks,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

I am sure that there are many different ways to do this, I also pay maintenance and I have spoken to my bank (FirstDirect) who say that I can continue to run my UK bank account (free good.gif ) from USA. That way I only need to transfer a lump sum every now and again rather than monthly which will work out cheaper - I can even wait for favourable exchange rates smile.gif

Good luck to everyone!

Hi! I have a question! I was just wondering an exact amount, or a very close estimate, that my fiancé will need at his interview at the London Embassy...in pounds. I've read places 131 but I've never been sure if it was GB pounds or US dollars. We are a little ways aways from the interview, hopefully in October, but I'd like to know so we can determine if he will have enough money at the time, or if we'll have to make arrangements to send money or whatever we need to do. Thanks so much!!

Stephanie

Oh and sorry if this has already been answered on here, but I didn't have time to look through the 150 odd pages! LoL! smile.gif

The visa costs $131 and they will convert it into £ on the day. You can pay in sterling or dollars cash and by card. You'll also need at least £14 for the courier. It will cost more if you need the passport/visa delivered by a certain time during the day.

I was there yesterday (20.06.08) and took both dollars and sterling. I used sterling because the exchange rate was so good in the embassy - it cost £66.55 (1.968 USD for a £1) which is much better than my banks exchange rate which was (1.88 USD for a £1). With the £14 for courier this came to £80.55

Thanks Crissy and Pandora. We three have very similar filing times. Sadly, the Cambridge folks have out-rowed the Oxford team and we need to concede the race to you. We rowed really fast, so maybe you just caught the lucky current. LOL

Good luck on the interview. I booked a free frequent flyer ticket to the UK so I can be there for the interview and go over the stuff with Nick one more time.

The current does seem a bit random! I took ages to gather my supporing documents but the Oxford / Cambridge race isn't over yet - I am hoping to fly mid August all being well so you can still win with a last minute sprint! Virgin Atlantic allow one way reward flights so I think I will be treating myself to upper class which lets me take a total of 5 suitcases (3 x 32kg + 2 in the cabin!) - that a lot of Yorkshire Tea, Branston Pickle and Heinz salad cream! biggrin.gif

I know, I know, it's a long way off, but we requested (in a cover letter) something after July 15 since Nick already had a ticket to the USA July 4-12. The trip was scheduled months ago because it's his birthday. Didn't want the visa before that, didn't want it scheduled during the trip, didn't want to cancel the non-refundable ticket...so July 29 works. good.gif

United KingdomPolice Certificate & MOC Question

If I am correct in thinking the Subject Access Report has now been replaced with the Police Certificate. Maybe you are thinkin of the CRB check. Criminal records check, used for employement purposes.

The reason for my question was that I thought that these would have been stepped down on the ACPO Police Certificate which would just say no live trace. At interview, you will need to provide details of all arrests and court appearances so you will need to request the information.

For my K1 interview I just had a letter from Scotland Yard which listed the charge, court date and outcome which meant that I didn't need to get the court records. 4 years later I now need to get these court records, and the arrest details for citizenship which is much more strict.

United KingdomPolice Certificate & MOC Question

My husband has an aggravated vehicle taking charge on his police record...but it was from when he was 15..and all he got was a 1 year driving license endorsed and a fine of £10.31. Does he still need the court records..? it doesnt say anywhere no trace or no live trace or whatever..everything else on his ACPO says warning or caution..does anyone know..?

Did you husband get the Police Certificate that specifies that it is for Immigration Purposes, or the standard ACRO Subject Access report?

If he went to court, then you should get the court records stating any charge and outcome. My interview was for a K1 visa so I am not certain what will be asked in his interview but you will certainly neeed it if he decides to apply for US citizenship later.

It is better to have too much information than too little.

United KingdomPolice Certificate & MOC Question

Does anyone here have any experience with this? I'm not asking for personal details to be aired in the public forum. Please privately message me if you have any insights or experience that may be helpful. I'm getting very worried now.

Hold down the Alt key and type 156 on the keypad.

I had an arrest from back when I was 12, my police certificate came back as "no live trace" and I had no idea of the date of an arrest from when I was a juvenile. I sent a letter to New Scotland Yard to get the date and they sent me the a letter containing the Date, Charge and the outcome. I used this letter at the UK interview in the US Embassy (I got nothing from the courts). I do however need the information from both the police and the courts now for my US citizenship and the price went up from £40 to £60 in the meantime! I would get as much info as you can and hold onto it for later.

Hope this helps.

Here's hoping your report arrives before your interview, and that you have smooth sailing the rest of your naturalization process.

My Subject Access report arrived today, I asked for all arrest details but it contains no info that I didn't already have - just lots of useless reference numbers. I am hoping that it will be enough since I was only 12 at the time and that was a long long time ago!

Good luck!

...in NY state, public notaries are "strictly forbidden to certify 'true copies' of documents."

it does say "However, a notary may sign a form of affidavit on a copy where the document's custodian him/herself signs and swears to the authenticity of the document (usually a government issued picture ID). This can suffice as a "notarized copy" in most instances"

Alternatively, Greenwich is not that far (all of my documents were notarized in CT).
Darren And CrissyMaleEngland2012-01-17 13:59:00
United KingdomDidn't receive original RFE, now run out of time
I would send notarized copies, not the originals. I am lucky in always working somewhere with a public notary but if you don't just get good copies and find a public notary. Personally, I think (and hope) your green card will just turn up in the middle of all of this mess, keep checking the USCIS status as they don't always email you!

I am now going through naturalization and still waiting to see if I get an RFE for the arrest details and court records. I ordered them a few weeks ago so I have no idea what I will receive or whether they will turn up before my interview. I like you made one mistake (when I was 12). I was charged, pleaded guilty to causing about £20 of damage (which I paid back), I was not convicted  .
Darren And CrissyMaleEngland2012-01-17 11:38:00
United KingdomDidn't receive original RFE, now run out of time
Do you still have the original police report and Subject Access Report? I gave copies to the Embassy in London and sent notarized copies with my AOS.

It seems strange that they would be so interested - I think that they made a mistake by not understanding that a caution means that you don't go to court. I only had police certificate and subject access letter (which was just a letter from New Scotland Yard containing charge, court date and outcome). The information that they are asking for is normally required for naturalization, not AOS.

Did you request the arrest report with the Subject Access? If not, apply for it now (you will need it at some point).

Assuming you didn't omit any information that you considered to be "stepped down" such as getting into trouble as a juvenile you shouldn't have a problem.

Point out that you were cautioned and released which meant that you were not charged with the offence and did not go to court. Notarize any documents that you send and follow Nich/Nick's advice.

I am sure you will be fine, there is no way this crime would prevent AOS.

Good luck!

Hi,

In the UK, the marriage certificate should be retained by the court issuing the decree absolute so you can't be expected to produce both.

I did a bit more reading up and although I am pretty sure that you don't need it, I decided to order a certified copy of mine since it was only £7 and therefore worth it for peace of mind! I read somewhere that it can be used as evidence of a name change.

I will let you know if they ask for it (if I have my interview before you have yours).

At the visa interview they did not request my marriage certificate, just my decree absolute. If I had been female the marriage certificate may have been required to prove my name change (since the maiden name is not on the decree absolute).

I'm just surprised the consular has requested you get a Subject Access as well as your ACPO...it won't show show any more information than what you have already with the ACPO...He should just be able to get his court records which won't take anything like 40 days.

My certificate came back with "No Live Trace" because of an minor incident when I was 12 whistling.gif . I couldn't get court records without the exact date so I wrote to National Identification Service, Subject Access Office, Room 331, New Scotland Yard, Broadway, LONDON, S1 0BG. I explained what I needed and why and about 9 days later got a letter which detailed all of the information that the court records would have done (saving me about £40). This letter was accepted by London Embassy who did query the "no live trace" at my interview. You have a much better chance if you are totally honest innocent.gif - in my case it delayed things by a week or two.

I'm applying for naturalization based on a 3 year period, I came to the USA on a K1 visa so obviously before those 3 years I lived outside the USA (Venezuela).

So what happens when on question A, part 7 of the app, "How many days did you spend outside the USA during the past 5 years"? I answer more than 500 days???

I know it might be kind of a silly question.... but.... I don't know what to answer

Thank you in advance for all your help!!!

Hi,

Just count the days since you arrived in the USA. This way it will be the total of the trips that you list.

This was what I did and it was not questioned, I have now been placed in line for interview.

Good Luck!

Elise and I are one step closer to being together. Our I129F was (finally by VSC standards) approved and our NOA 2 is on it's way.

It's funny, it's been so long since I've had a "me" weekend that I have no clue what to do!

$480 later, it's official, Friday the 23rd is the day - tickets booked!

Angilla - you must be so excited. Enjoy your reunion!

Yes - there will be no conspiring in a language I don't understand. And of course I'd like to be able to speak French too for so many other reasons.

Thanks again for your tips. I've done most everything you've mentioned and planned on sitting down with Elise this weekend (I'm flying to France for a visit tonight) to go over all the stuff she'll need for the Visa process. Your post a few pages back about the interview was very encouraging. I plan to share that with Elise too.

I'm about 20 minutes from the Bridgeport-Port Jeff. ferry on this side of the sound... I think that makes us some form of neighbors!

Thanks again for all of your advice.

Hehe yeah, like me and my mom talking Italian in front of my dad so he can't understand it. Teehee. We're bad.

You should be getting your NOA2 any day now! Read back to find my posts about my fiance's interview and medical, that'll give you some insight on the France side of things - it's so easy! Start gathering your stuff for the France side of it all NOW. Talk to your employer about the letter you need for the I-134. Packet 3 requests the I-864 but they've been taking the I-134 anyway - so prepare both. Have your fiancee get her vaccination record from her doctor. Click on "embassy info" up top, then click on F for France, bring up the France embassy page for info on what's in packet 3. Go to the downloads section and have her fill out all the packet 3 forms so they're ready to send back when she recieves packet 3. Put together everything you need to send her - a copy of the I-129F, evidence of ongoing relationship, blahblahblah and ship it over to her in France. Etc. The time FLIES after NOA2 and he and I ended up doing it all at the last minute, he got my package on a Friday... his interview was that Wednesday. Don't do that lol it really freaked us out!

I see you live in CT. Do you live anywhere by Bridgeport? I'm about 20 minutes from where the Bridgeport ferry docks in Port Jeff.

Hi Angilla! I managed to miss your very nice response! Your timeline has given me hope from the outset. 3 months would be just fine by us. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a no RFE, no lost petition, no kinks filing.

We definitely plan to raise our little buckeroo bi-lingual. And, my so-rusty-it-no-longer-works understanding of French is something I need to work on. I can't have mommy and our little one having secrets right beneath my mono-lingual ears.

I don't know what we'll be asking at the consulate. I guess we're planning to explain our situation and ask their advice! I have very managed expectations but will welcome a surprise. Elise is understandably anxious about the timing; hopefully they'll be able to provide some comfort.

Thank you all for your answers and consideration. While I haven't been active in these forums till today Visajourney and everyone who posts here have been invaluable over the past few months. I would have been utterly lost without this resource.

Mercycat - I share the concerns you noted. Elise is understandably hopeful they'll be able to provide some assistance. I worry we'll leave more concerned than we entered. However she has more experience with the Embassy (she was an Au Pair before she and I met, lived in the US and had, since forfeited, residency status). I'm balancing my informed intuition that the visit will be for naught against her hopes that it will provide a modicum of comfort and perhaps some guidance. They're open on Friday morning and we'll discuss what we hope to learn / achieve on Thursday. I'll report back as soon as I can - most likely upon return to the states on Sunday.

Thanks again for all of your help! Now if only VCS would send me an NOA2!

We considered DCF when we started the process but that coincided with DCF freeze. I had not reconsidered it since filing the K1. I think I'll ask at the consulate about that. Thanks for the idea!

3-21 is coming up - here's to a good interview.
