IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam and Marijuana (Jamaica)
QUOTE (tidanemu @ Aug 30 2007, 02:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just learned from my BRILLIANT husband that he smoked weed in July. From everyone elses timeline it looks like our interview may be sometime in October, maybe November. Please, if anyone knows, what is the likelihood that it shows up during the medical, and if so a denial? He is not a regular smoker, says he has not since July, and before then he last smoked March of 2006. Someone please help.

Thanks

Won't show. You'll be fine.

Deny....deny.....DENY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell him to deny EVER using it though at the medical and at the interview!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBAD NEWS
I'm so sorry for you.

You know, the thing is, the process is not all that much easier once the visa is granted and you move in together. Sure, you are with them, then, and that has it's pluses. But, life is still a one day at a time, small step forward, 2 steps back, kind of world. It takes a long time for everything to settle down and be as you kind of dreamed and expected it to be. While this is a setback for the two of you, it would not be the only one you would face during the process, or even the biggest challenge you would face. Life is tough. This visa process is seemingly neverending and extremely difficult. Maybe it's good to know now that he isn't up for the challenge.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReturn of Original Documents
I warned on the yardie thread almost a year and a half ago that they kept Andre's original birth paper and advised everyone's SO get at least one extra copy to bring with them to the US.

Yes, it's a pretty common occurance in JA. Sorry, you missed my warning.

BTW....we couldn't get Andre's mom to cooperate, so I ordered more birth papers online from JA. You have to order 6 of them (don't ask me why) and they cost around $80 with the shipping and all. It was relatively painless. I can point you in that direction if you can't get someone in JA to help you out with that.

I can't help you on the marriage certificate. We did all that in the US.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you bring pictures evidence to bring to interview in HCMC?
QUOTE (VKOL @ Nov 30 2007, 02:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone,

I have a few questions. I remember I have read somewhere about the consulars do not want the benificary to bring photo albums to the interview. I'm wondering

1. How did you bring the pictures to the interview? Did you put all in the bag or did you glue two on to an 8.5x11 paper with the decription on the bottom of each picture?

2. How many pictures did you bring? Did you bring everything you have or just the selected ones? because I have more than 400 of them from the two trips and planning to go back before her interview.

also .....
3. For other evidences like phone bills, emails, chat logs, snail mails etc......Did you put in the binder or how did you do it?

4. For those who has used yahoo chat as evidence...How did you print it out?

I have read serveral topics on what was brought to the interview but not how it was organized. I'm preparing all the evidence ahead of time but can't decide which way to go. I would like to learn how did you bring all your evidence to the interview. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Anytime I deal with photos, I color copy them either at work or at the UPS store, 2-4 to a page.

And, nothing is quick in this process. Since it is already into December, I'd guess a new submission would not get processed by March or April.

You cannot apply for a K-1 (fiance visa) if you are already married. Are you thinking the K-3 maybe?

First bit of advice......NEVER try and figure out the Jamaican Embassy. They are so a$$backwards, it's not even funny.

They have about one week a month where they schedule interviews for the next month. It's very frustrating.

Head over to the Yardie #5 thread. There may be someone on there who can give you a clearer answer.

Good luck to you.

QUOTE (Marlita @ Dec 16 2007, 05:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Wow I have this same issue when coming from Jamaica. I want to bring dried cod fish back and always wondered if it would be a big problem. I have brought back things that I probably wasn't allowed to but I was never searched so it went ok. But I would like to bring back alot more stuff and don't want to be illegal about it. This is good to know. dancin5hr.gif

I've brought back saltfish before. Also, breadfruit (roasted in whole form) and ackee (blanched and then frozen). I told them in customs and they were fine with it.

Yah, I agree. Andre went to his physician for all shots he still needed, before he even went to the medical. A shot is a shot is a shot. Andre took his vaccination record with him to the medical and got just one shot during it.

I am wondering whether to include Western Union records as part of my 'evidence of an ongoing marital union" along with chat records, photos and Express Mail receipts from packages we have mailed each other. I have seen various opinions either for or against but can't remember if they were in regards to a fiance or spouse visa. Anyone who included them with the initial petition, please let me know if you were approved or not.

I used them as part of our K-1 ongoing relationship materials.

I am also using them as part of our lifting of conditions later this year.

Thanks. But now I'm even more nervous because my husband use to smoke the gang. He only stopped just a month ago (Feb) since I know that is a denial reason right there. Since he stopped do you think it will still be in his system when he does his physical?? He told me he is drinking Sirasee (not sure if i spelled it right) to clean out his system. Do you think that will work???? unsure.gif

A month is plenty. And, he'll have more months by the time the interview comes along.

Just make sure to tell him to say he NEVER EVER smoked the ganga. If he admits it one bit, they will fail his medical. That's a 3 year ban and it's not guarenteed after the 3 years he will be given a visa.

The rest of the stuff is fine. You should have your passport stamp from the first time you met so you are fine there. I do think taking some more pictures is a good idea.

A 4 year age difference is nothing. And like Marlita said, you are both at the ages when most people marry all the time.

Good luck.

For the person who asked why it takes so long.....some of it is red tape BS. The rest, I think you'll see when you get there.....a whole lot of people try to go through that embassy every day.

All pictures taken IN Jamaica are good for the US as well. But, those taken in the US do not fall in the JA guidelines. Something to be careful of if you ever need to send back to JA for something.

You need 2 for the police record.

You have to calm down a bit about the waiting. There is little you can do but ride it out.

Was the form generated on the 19th or the 29th? I've seen both dates in 2 different posts by you. Either way, that's only 2 weeks. Not an overly long time to be so worried about.

Call and speak to someone if you need clearer answers.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDID ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM????
I agree with YD. I would have a sponsor lined up too.

If he can produce 1099's or W-2's from work with his father, as well as tax returns for that time and was above the poverty level, he should be fine.

Free lance.....as in a Schedule C for the tax return? Again, if he made above the poverty level, he should be fine.

From what you said, I get the feeling his income may be a little spotty for the last three years or so. They are not going to be happy with that at the embassy. Find out if he has proof of income over the poverty level for, oh, say the last 3 years, AND CAN PROVE it! If not, get that sponsor in order.
*JG*FemaleJamaica2008-04-16 13:35:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDID ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM????
That would depend........

Did he make above poverty level before this job?
Did he have steady jobs before this with little to no gaps in employment for years back?
Can he prove all that with W-2's and tax returns?
Is this job permanent? And, can he get a letter stating this?

Probably what happened to that other person is the job they had before was not above poverty level or there was not a steady enough employment history. Just because someone makes enough now, without proof that they are able to keep the job and keep up the means, it may not be enough proof. Proof of steady employment is best if you don't want to have to find a co-sponsor.

Not that I am on the side of the various immigration offices in any way, shape, or form; but I can see their caution and points. Too many people before us have abused the system. While some of it is just bureaucratic paperwork, some of it is genuine need to be cautious for reasons that have bitten them in the butt in the past.

It doesn't matter then if you amend or not as far as the stimulus check goes. You are only going to get what you are eligible for now anyhow. Without the social security number, she is not eligible for the stimulus.
