my fiancee just crossed yesterday, but there is a big problem. when he was crossing they asked him all the usual stuff "what he was going for" "how we met" but then they asked "are you engaged?" and the blockhead said "NO" for some reason.
after i told him (under the advice of everybody here) he musn't EVER lie to a border guard.

i just know we're going to be denied. what should we do?

Spank him severely and tell him never to do this again. Then hope nothing comes of it. It's unlikely anything will.

Ha.......very funny answer.

I need a little more information. What other visa did you apply for?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat age gap
I just want to say, if you love her, then apply for her. What's the alternative? If it goes through, it goes through and you live happily ever after. If it doesn't, then you find an alternative course to travel. I firmly believe in never putting the cart before the horse, so stop worrying until you are given reason to worry.

I wish you luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFEDEX, UPS or USPS?
What are you sending? And where?

If sending the K-1 to your US service center, I would suggest USPS. I sent everything priority with no extra services. We have had absolutely no issues. Make sure you keep a copy of everything.

If sending overseas, it all depends on the area and hwo the mail system is. If I shipped to Jamaica, I definately did not want to send it via the USPS.

They don't do a credit check. They just need to verify the USC makes over the poverty level for the number of people he/she supports or has assets to cover it. If not, a co-sponsor is needed.

You can always ask questions along the way. Lots of people list their stuff as they are preparing it to bounce ideas off us, ask questions, etc.

Dont' get yourself worked up into a tizzy. Take deep breaths. And, take it one step at a time.

You CAN do this! Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLegal Advice for K-1 Visa
I searched the internet to see what other people's issues had been when filing. I read and reread what people had done on here. I studied the guides. I read the USCIS web site. I read the Jamaican embassy web site. I carefully put together our information. I double checked and then triple checked that I had done it all correctly.

In the end, we had no issues whatsoever. I am defintely in the no lawyer camp. A lawyer cannot do anything better then I did myself. And, I did it on my time. Not waiting longer for someone else to do what I could've done in the first place.

You should get it eventually.

This might actually be a good time to verify you put the right address on there, though and/or they input in correctly. Just in case.

I just wrote....I met (fiance's name) in (month & year) when I vacationed in Jamaica and stayed at the resort he worked at. We continued a long distance friendship and when I went back in (month & year), we started a relationship. The rest is history.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan an I-134 be altered in any way after notarization?
I agree. The notary is ONLY witnessing the signature. With the signature, the person who signed is stating everything on the form is the TRUTH. By adding or changing anything, you are still stating the exact same thing. It makes no difference.

The rules state you must have met within the 2 years prior to filing. I'm sorry; but if you really want to file, someone is going to have to make the trip to see the other.

I just paid $15 for two, here in the US, so we can renew hubby's Jamaican passport. They seem to be way too strict on the US pictures.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPhotos
When we had some done in Jamaica, they were a bit different then those the US produces and accepts. And, when we went to renew my husband's Jamaican passport, through the Jamaican consulate in the US and then on to the Jamaican embassy in Jamaica, we had to jump through hoops to get the pictures right. When, it comes down to it, they only accept Sears or The Picture People.

I think they are used to dealing with different embassies in the US. Not sure what their criteria is exactly. I would definately try and stick to as close to that phamplet and/or any other official word, on the pictures, though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures129f mailing
I put mine in a folder. I used ACCO prong clips to hold it all together, punched 2 holes in the top of each sheet. I seperated each section by a piece of colored paper and tabbed it. I put the pictures in clear plastic envelopes.

Whatever you do, make it clear and easy to follow. Otherwise, people do it all kinds of different ways. They seldom if ever have any problems.

Good luck to you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew at this...Going to get married to a non US citizen
You need a whole lot of advice cause if you marry him when you get to Algeria, you can no longer file the K-1, which is a fiance visa. He HAS to be your fiance when he arrives in the US.

If marrying him in Algeria is what you plan, you need to look into the K-3 or CR-1 visa which will be for married couples.

Check the guides at the top of this page and then ask questions if confused.

Good luck to you.

And with a K1 visa, he won't be able to work until he gets his EAD, but you might get it if he arrives through JFK airport. It won't give you information about the time, but f you need more information about these processes you should check the guides (link under the big VisaJourney.com logo on top of the page)

I don't think USCIS will really care as you are done with them for a while now. In my opinion it is probably best to notify the Paris consulate as soon as you know, its not a fundamental issue and wont effect your case or its progress. If you know by the time you get P3 you could include a request on your covering letter for them to update their records.

Good luck with your journey and congrats on NOA2!!!

Bex xxx

Thank you! So if I know the new address soon enough I only need to write it down on the P3 forms and include a request on cover letter.

Take a look at the instructions for AR11 http://www.uscis.gov.../form/ar-11.pdf
You may want to fill it out when you arrive here (unless you correct the address in packet3/4) where they ask you the address where you will be residing in USA. There are also requirements of filing address change if the sponsor moves - take a look at those. Good Luck

To my understanding, AR-11 is used to change the address once I am in the USA. But when I first get there my address would be the one written on the document I give at the POE, wouldn't it? if on that document it is the new address, should I fill out an AR-11? in that case it seems worthless to me, but maybe I am wrong...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPetitioner is going to move
My fiance (the US petitioner) is looking for an apartment and he will move to that new apartment before I arrive. We got NOA2 last week, our file in on its way to NVC and then France.

What do we need to do or Who do we need to notify (USCIS? Paris embassy?) if he moves:
- before I receive packet 3
- after I send back packet 3 but before interview
- after the interview but before POE?

I am engaged to an Algerian and he lives in France, he is there without papers. I am wondering if that is an issue for us. I want to go there to marry him but is the fact that he is there without papers going to have an impact on us obtaining a visa for him? Is he going to be eligable to obtain a visa here still if he is there without a passport? What options do we have?

I agree with everything people stated above.
Moreover, i'm not sure exactly what the requirements are in order to get married in France, but if he is illegal, I doubt this would be simple.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetter of how you met your Fiancee for I-129F
Hello
Some people have only fill out the small area on the form, others have attached another sheet. We chose to attach another sheet, to add more details. I believe it was half a page long and our I-129F petition was approved with USCIS without trouble.
I don't think it matters that much. I've heard of people approved with only two lines of "how we met" and also people who wrote one or two pages.
I hope that helps you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIGORS LIST
Hello milkyway

Igor's list is here: http://cse.ssl.berke...du/igor/vjdata/

In order to have your case added to it, you have to fill your timeline. Go to "Immigration timelines" (on top of that page, on the blue menu). Then, "Edit/Add my entry". Once you add all your information here, it will be on Igor's list within the next hour.

Though since you have already NOA2, you won't be able to see your case on it, since Igor's list shows the list of people still waiting for their NOA2, and the people who were approved in the last week.
