Africa: Sub-SaharanApproved I-129f sent to US Embassy, What Next?

I posted a similar question and was given this reply.

Once you get your NOA2 wait a week call NVC for your embassy number. Starts with ACC. Once you have that wait a week or so and email the Ghana embassy for your pickup date. Include Petitioner and Beneficiary birthdays, names, ACC number. They will eventually email you back with a date to pick up packet 3 (which is also packet 4- with interview date). They schedule the interview not you.

I hope this answers part of your question. Good Luck.

BTW how were you approved in July 2013 when it is only May 2013?

CALLING FOR CASE UPDATE FOR K1 AFTER NOA2

Copied from Dodi (Gold Member)

Once your NOA2 has been processed at the USCIS level, the NVC and DOS are the only way to really find out when/where your case was accepted until you (maybe) get a letter from the NVC or Packet 3 arrives. As one of my favorite vjer's likes to say "HumansTM" are hard to reach at the NVC and DOS helplines. ESPECIALLY at the DOS. I clocked half an hour of waiting through recorded messages and being disconnected for pressing the wrong option or trying to surf my way through it before I finally wrote down all of the RIGHT options and made myself a road map.

Someone just pm'ed me about calling for a case update at the NVC, so I thought I'd share my "road map" with the rest of you, in case you're tired of getting lost as well.

For the NVC:

K1's are not tracked through the AVR, EVER. They are processed like an immigrant visa, but they are NOT immigrant visas, so they fall into a completely different class of their own. Therefore you need an operator. To get there:

1-603-334-0700
)
Press 1 for English
Press 5 for an operator

For DOS:

This is where you will be able to find out if your case was received at the Embassy/Consulate. They will not see your case in their system until the NVC has logged it in and applied a case number to it.

1-202-663-1225

Press 1 for the Main Menu
Press 4 for Foreigners Applying To Come To the US
Press 2 for Immigrant Visas (yeah, yeah - we know they're not really)
Press 3 for Family or Employer Based Visas
Press 2 for Fiance(e) visas
Press 0 for an Operator

I hope this helps everyone else who has to wade through the red tape to get to someone (hopefully) with answers. Please be aware that not all of them have the correct information, and you can call back and ask for someone else or request a supervisor if you feel you're being given misinformation (SOMETIMES this helps, sometimes not).

Africa: Sub-SaharanGhana specific K1 interview preparation

I have researched the Ghana interview thread and came up with a list of possible questions at the K1 interview so here goes:

How did you meet?
Where does petitioner work?
What does petitioner do for a living?
When did petitioner first come to the US?
What floor does petitioner work on?
What is petitioner?s address?

When did the man propose?

When do you plan to get married?
How many hours does petitioner work?
How many days does petitioner work?
How many times has petitioner come to Ghana?
How long did petitioner stay (each visit)?

What are the names of petitioner?s siblings, parents?

Have you met petitioner?s children/parents?

What are the names of petitioner?s children and how old are they?

What are the names of petitioner?s pets?

(If previously married)

What was petitioner?s husband/wife?s name?

How long were they married?

If you previously applied for a B2 visa for the same person you are going to be asked why you did so and were you planning of getting married on the B2 visa?

You are also going to be asked to write down your fiance(e)?s name on piece of paper (with no hesitation) so be prepared with spelling, etc.

Its the weekend so you should get some responses next few days. Also look at your Ghana forum and the people;s timeline those who been there done that and PM and ask them that helps also.

But you ask very specific questions nothing wrong with that. Keep it up. At least you did your homework and know what direction to aim. Good for you.

Thanks so much to all who have responded so far. I will keep researching on this site and also await responses.ClockWatch2.gif

I agree with everyone who says every question you have is in the guides but I am still going to post this question and hope for the best. I have tried to deduce the answers from reading all country specific posts and find the answers somewhat confusing. Is there a country specific guide that tells you what steps to take once you receive the NOA2 for K1 visa. For example, I previously had to get a "non-impediment to marry" with my previous K1 but it does not seem to be needed with the embassy in Ghana. How long from NOA2 to interview (for Ghana), do I go ahead and call NVC and get a number and then schedule my interview (for Ghana), do I go ahead and have my fiance get the police report a month before the interview or three months before (for Ghana). Maybe it is just me being dumb but I still have questions after reading the guides and posts and going through this for the 2nd time.

I received my NOA2 May 13 and NVC received on May 29. I waited 2 weeks and emailed the Embassy with my ACC#, petitioner and beneficiary DOB, etc,  but they claim they have no record of our case in the system. Is this normal?

I know that this Embassy has one of the longest wait for interview dates but does it take this long for them to even get it in their system?

Africa: Sub-SaharanAdvice for K1 Interview in Ghana

How can we we make this information readily available to Ghana folks?

I am hoping this would be a good place for anyone that types in Advice+K1+ Ghana otherwise I don't know where else. In our case since it was the second interview a young man came around and asked for the letter that he was given telling him to return but we did not know that would be our last chance before we got to the window. Apparently we should have given everything to him. Live and Learn.cray5ol.gif

Tosh LoveFemaleGhana2013-11-13 12:25:00
Africa: Sub-SaharanAdvice for K1 Interview in Ghana

A quick synopsis on my specific case. I applied for K1 for fiancé and he went to the interview and was asked to come back with more evidence which I flew down to Ghana to attend with him but we were denied and told by the CO that she does not believe we have a "romantic relationship."

UPDATE -- I requested a congressional inquiry and got the letter yesterday and their reasoning was that we did not provide ANY evidence when we came back the second time. This are some of the items we brought with us to the second interview: Proof of 5 visits to see him in the last 2 years, email correspondence, more photos, Fb conversations, a site plan for our new home we are building in Ghana with both names, a copy of a tattoo of his name on my wrist and the date he proposed and MYSELF.

So why did they say we did not bring anything? Because we held on to everything until we got to the window where I was asked to have a seat while they spoke to my fiancé (now husband) and then I was called to the window and given the determination and CO already had the sheet in front of her and was not even interested in anything I had to say by then.

The moral of the story is to try and give all your evidence to whomever collects your interview letter once you get into the building because by the time you make it to Window it might be too late. Just my two cents and thanks to P.A@2013 for also pointing out this fact to me.

Best Wishes and Good Luck to those who are in the process!

Africa: Sub-SaharanWhy does it matter B2 vs K1 or CR1?

I think it would be much cleaner if they just closed the loophole  for those that walk in on  VWP/visitors visa and claim to be struck  by the marrying bug.  Let everyone be fully vetted in their home country.  After all they didn't intend on staying when they arrived ( bullshit )  The current system gives on unfair advantage to white people and disfavors minorities.

Yes. Why don't they assume that that visitors might stay anyway and have a mechanism in place to deal with that. Instead of allowing some to come and others not to be able to get in based on nothing but "gut" feeling.

Also whats scary about a visiotr visa you don't have to get shots or submit a police report how crazy is that ish.

.

I was not aware of this. Now, that is bull!

Africa: Sub-SaharanWhy does it matter B2 vs K1 or CR1?

You are assuming that everyone who visits knows a US citizen and that's not true. Visitors come for many reasons. Some people come here for medical reason to seek medical care, To see if they want to live here and check out the land scape or go see all our wonderful sites. No one sponsors anyone for a visitor visa.

And also No CO is stopping anyone from coming here and marrying everyone does that. What you think Vegas is for. i know that's what me and my husband were going to do. The problem is now they are here and they may adjust status or some not doing things legal at all just disappear into the crowd. That's why many countries like the ones we are from have a hard time getting visitor visas because those before us F'd it up and violated the rules and didn't come back. I am sure you know someone who came here on visitor or student visa and never went back. This is why the CO , CBP do what they do.

I was referring to the B2 visas vs.marriage or fiance visas or visas that require you to have a sponsor. For example, why would someone be denied a B2 the moment they mention that they have a boyfriend or fiance in the US? Does it matter either way? Why don't they just collect their money and paperwork and send you on your way?

Perhaps because a visitor who has no intention to immigrate on his tourist visa would not feel it was fair
to go through 3 kinds of hell with all the K1 requirements an intending immigrant has to face.

Logic and efficiency with good business sense and USCIS / DOS is like oil and water. It just does not mix.
Something always floats to the top.

Good point.

Tosh LoveFemaleGhana2013-12-01 19:07:00
Africa: Sub-SaharanWhy does it matter B2 vs K1 or CR1?

I understand that LEGALLY and per USCIS regulations one must utilize any visa exactly how it is intended to be used. My question is what difference does it make to a CO if one is coming to US to visit one's Fiance or boyfriend on a B2 for example, but there is a possibility that he/she would end up marrying said Fiance or boyfriend?

Please do not reply about the legal implications, etc. I am just talking logistics and business sensibility here. Why don't they have one fee structure, checklist (health, criminal history, financial stability, etc) requirement for anyone who is sponsored by a US citizen?

(Moderator, please move to appropriate forum if I have this in the wrong place)

Yes, use the Tax Return Transcript. The other is a summary and is not what is commonly used. While it might be fine to use the other, since it has the information required, the officer reviewing your case is used to seeing copies of the tax return or the transcripts. You should not risk confusing them. Just my "er fen."

I don't think the age issue should be a problem. You are both consenting adults.

My notarized form has a stamp on both sides and his only has a stamp on the 2nd page. i know its silly but do they require a stamp of notary on both pages...

The notary only really needs to notarize any signatures. So, where there are signatures is where they should notarize.

Actually, if a birth certificate cannot be produced, they will take a certified Baptism certificate as a legal document. I used to work in a Church and had to produce these all the time for people seeking social security benefits without a birth certificate.

It is possible that your specific Church of baptism required a baptism "name", much like Catholics select the name of a Saint for confirmation. It means little except to the church.

This has been a topic of argument between me, my husband, and his family since he came here. They want, they want, they want........and when you do manage to scrape enough to give, they want more. Andre is to the point where he stopped taking Jamaica calls or tells them the money tree in the back yard has not started sprouting yet.

What I did was make a budget of exactly how much we make and then how much we pay in bills. Everyone understood after that.....there is none left. Sorry.

QUOTE (NeverSeen @ Oct 1 2007, 05:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My best advice is to think of all the reasons you wont get it, and then make sure you eliminate the reasons one by one.

If you do not have enough evidence, make some.
I have snail mail letters, cards, picutres, reciepts galore (everything from engagement party receipts to debit card receipts for the letters i send at the post office), i have tons of proof that i visited her in vietnam (boarding passes, reciepts from stuff i bought there, hundreds of pictures, etc), I had my mother send a couple letters to her with pictures and details about the extended family. I have hundreds of logs from IMs, emails, phone records for text messages, etc. Everything that has to do with our relationship has been kept from Day 1 and will be available at the time of the interview when the CO asks for it. Is it overkill? Who cares, its worth it if my baby will be here soon. Then it will all go into a huge scrap book so if anyone asks about how we met they can just look at the book instead of telling the story 1000s of times hehehe.

Do you have the income?
I do and i provided 3 years income tax returns, 3 years income tax accounts, 3 current paychecks (paid every 2 weeks), a letter from my employer, a letter from my bank, and statements from my stock accounts.

Is your paperwork all done correctly and accuratly?
If it is there shouldn't be any issues with it.

I also will be taking a 2nd trip sometime this month to see her so they know I'm all for it. We are going to sort through all the paperwork and prepare everything for her interview.

My biggest hurtle to overcome is her lack of confidence in her English skills. I feel she will do just fine but she thinks she is horrible at English. This is my last reason i think we wont get the visa. What did i do? Sent her to class to learn english for 3 months prior to the interview, talk with her on the phone a lot in english only, and coach her on all the details she needs for the interview.

I am 100% confident that we will have the pink because everything is in order and ready to go. Of course your case will more than likely be differant but as long as you eliminate all the reasons for being delayed, why wouldn't you pass??

Just so you know my finance and I started talking online after her uncle introduced us via pictures in early Nov. In March i flew there and we had our engagement party. in April i filed the 129F, and now it is oct and we are waiting on packet 4. Our relationship developed quickly but all my ducks are in a row and i will get the pink the first time around.

I'll keep an eye on your posts and help you out as needed as i just went through everything you are just begining. smile.gif.

BTW Tram has been nothing but negative about this whole ordeal because she knows so many people that have been denied and i'm not there to comfort her. My biggest thing is trying to keep her positive and upbeat about the whole process. It wasn't until packet 3 arrived (6 months after i last saw her) that she finally broke out of a depression like state and got her head in the game. Its a very stressful and drawn out process, but keep hope alive and stay positive!

Holy ####### that was a long post ohmy.gif

I am incredibly impressed by this post. I wish you the best of luck.
