CanadaBargain Shopping Forum
I love my part-time job for that very reason.....We get freebies every single day I work. Damaged, discontinued, about ready to expire, left-overs, samples.....It's bath, body, hair, and face products. You'd be amazed how much money you do save when you aren't buying shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotions. Now, if I could just get a job in a toilet paper factory....................

I dont' have any free advice today. I did just buy some shoes from Shoebuy.com which I saved 10% on for signing on through a certain link, 5% for signing up for their e-mail, free shipping & returns, and no sales tax. I got 2 pairs of shoes for $56, which I am sure would've cost me closer to $70 if I could even find my size in the stores (which I couldn't) and closer to $80 or $90 on another web site. I sent my friends coupons to save $10 off any purchase they make of $75 or more and I gave them my 10% off link. If anyone is interested, PM me with your e-mail and I can e-mail it on to you too.

I enjoyed the Time Traveller's Wife. It was quite different and sad in many ways too. I started reading " . . . And Ladies of the Club" by Helen Hooven Santmyer. It's going to keep me occupied for a while - it's 1076 pages long. "Set in a small Ohio town and spanning over sixty years (starting in 1867) it centers of the members of a woman's literary club and their struggles to understand themselves, each other and the tumultuous world they live in" It is a actually a very well written story with great characters and lovely historical anecdotes so far. I've only just started it so am on page 86.

I need to go see the Time Traveller's Wife. Probably wait for DVD.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionVacation Out of Country

Our family is taking a vacation out of the country next month. I (US Citizen) will be out of the country for 3 weeks. My wife (Permanent Resident) and 2 daughters (US Cit) will be out as of now for 5 weeks. However, they are thinking about staying for some more time, maybe until school starts back up in the fall (September). How would this affect the removing conditions scheduled in February 2008? How would it affect the naturalization scheduled in February 2009?

Thanks.

It is my understanding that until it passes 6 months, it's cool. My SIL had this same question. She ended up going back to Jamaica for 9 months last year. Her residency time started all over again when she came back to the US. She's upset with herself now.

Ok, this is kinda weird, and I was wondering if it ever happened to anybody else, and/or I should even worry about it, or wait for the Biometrics Appointment NOA before doing anything.

Here's the thing...I just checked the mailbox and I FINALLY go the NOA1...yayyy, right?
Well, the problem is, I got 2, they both extend my GC for a year, but they have 2 different receipt numbers (none of which works, by the way) and one is in my correct name (Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial), the other is incorrect (First Name, Middle Name, Initial of Last Name)!!! Ahhhhh! Can't anything EVER be easy with me? helpsmilie.gif

I'm trying not to worry too much since at least one of them is right (maybe they realized the mistake on their own and re-sent it?), and I guess I'll wait for the Biometrics Appointment to see if that's correct.

Any other imput/suggestions?
Thank you guys! rose.gif

We got two biometrics appointments with conflicting information. We went to the first appointment and walked down to where you can immigration questions, in the same place as biometrics, and the lady there took care of it.

I think with the obvious errors, I would make a call or two and ask some questions or make one of those infopass appointments everyone talks about on here.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPassport expired before my Greencard condition removal
Yes. Until you become naturalized, if that is what you choose to do, you will have to always have a passport from the Phillipines. If you naturalize, you can then have either/or. If you choose not to naturalize, you will continue to maintain a Phillipines passport.

There are a few Jamaican embassies that I plan to use one to renew Andre's Jamaican passport here in the states. Not sure about the Phillipines though.

Has anyone else had this happen? If so, I hear the NOA1 after you file to remove conditions, states it extends his green card for one year while they process. Has anyone used this NOA1 to renew the driver's license then?

We also live in Misery AKA Missouri wink.gif
I used it last December for my DL. The first lady did not want to accept it, so I asked for the supervisor. My DL was issued until the expiration date of the NOA1. They also wanted to see the conditional GC and the Social Security Card.

Hope this helps!

Does he have to show his Green Card just to renew his license? (I don't know Missouri.) And if he renews it before it expires, as one would normally do, his Green Card would still be valid and you might not even have to show a NOA. You should get the NOA by then though (apply as soon as you can), just in case Missouri limits your driver license to the end of your documented legal stay in the US. Your NOA should state that the Green Card in question is extended for one year. After the Green Card originally would have expired, I would expect that Missouri accepts the NOA together with the expired Green Card for getting a driver's license (don't throw the expired card out), and I wish you that your husband receives a driver license with normal expiration date and not a conditional driver license for only one year.

I moved to Minnesota and had to exchange my previous license for a Minnesota one. I had to show my (then unexpired) conditional Green Card. The expiration date of my driver license was fortunately not limited by the expiration date of the Green Card; instead the duration of the driver license was as long as for everybody else.

Nope....there is no renewing before it expires without a new GC. They used the expiration date on his 2 year GC for his DL expiration date. Otherwise, we have 6 year licenses here. And, yes, he will need the GC to renew.

I am thinking the same thing as the person above said, they will hopefully use the NOA & expired GC; but it will be for just that one year and we'll have to go back, which just sucks.

Just wondered if anyone actually did this and it worked. Or, if it didn't work, what else did you do?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionFiling while seperated?
QUOTE (doodle @ Nov 9 2007, 02:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You'll have to make your situation a little clearer for everyone to understand. Here is my take:

My take on the situation is that you are married, working on things, possibly seeking some counseling and planning on moving back in shortly. I do not see this as a situation that deems "seperated" or that divorce is lurking. I would just gather what you have that is in your names, post the list of what you have and we'll see where you can go from there.

I'm not suggesting you lie I'm just saying that this marriage is not ending so you don't need to bring up living under seperate roofs temporarily to them. It will only confuse, delay and screw up your petition.

QUOTE (Spiderette @ Nov 9 2007, 03:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My understanding is that removal of conditions is based on the fact that you initially got married in good faith and NOT to evade the laws of the United States.
Your burden of proof is to show them your marriage is legitimate if you are still married, or was legitimate if you are divorced. There is no grey area, you are either married or divorced. If it is your intention to get divorced, you need to get divorced first and then prove to them you were married in good faith. People who do not live together have been known to be approved before, as far as I know there is no requirement that you have to be living together.
Seek the advice of an attorney, but if you still love each other, are working on your marriage etc and have no plans to get divorced, then you have to follow the steps of filing a joint application.

Good luck with your case and your relationship.

I totally agree with this statement. I do not think a lawyer is neccessary, because I think you can proceed with the filing as we all have. Just provide us with a sample list of evidence that you have.

That's what I see. To add to this.....it is also my understanding that they problem is that things are not in both your names. It's an either or kind of thing. Add that to the different addresses......Right?

It's not the joint application that is in question. It's the burden of proof.

I recently flew to mexico after I received my 1 year extension letter. Before flying I made an infopass appt and got my passport stamped to verify that my green card had been extended. I thought this stamp could be used instead of the letter, I was wrong. On my return flight my wife (US citizen) and I were "detained" by immigration for about an hour until my 1 year extension could be verified. To make a long story short the immigration officer told me that the letter is what I should use when travelling overseas

You should have the NOA1 letter for the I-751, this extends the green-card for a year, and most states DMV will accept that letter as evidence of legal presence.

But not many. I know Georgia will not. Since your license expires the same day as your green card then by all means renew your license one week before the expiration date. I beleive that most DMV's will allow a person to renew a license at least 30 days prior to expiration.

Missouri will let you do it up to 6 months before expiration.

That being said, even if you renew....WHENEVER, it will still expire at the one year expiration date of the NOA.

Andre's green card and license also expire on the same day next year. I have been told to take the NOA to the DMV and they will extend the license until that NOA expires or he gets a 10 year green card, whichever comes first. Then, we will have to go back to the DMV to get another license. So much BS and work involved in all this.

I also worry what happens if the processing of the 10 year green card exceeds the 1 year extended time limit.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat to do when...?
If it's just an isolated incident, everyone has had moments where the temper really flares during an argument.

No matter what the outcome, would you just up and move back or would you want to stay? I'd say if the answer is stay, then I would send it in as planned. If a divorce were even on the horizon, it can take a while to complete and you'd still have to send in that paperwork.

Here's what I wrote a few months ago about all I have been collecting:

Would I make you smile if I said that I have TWO copies of the following in folders:

Joint bank accounts
Joint bills
Joint Rental agreement
Junk mail with his name on it
All insurance policies, either joint or with one of us as beneficiary for the other.
Copies of our Advanced Directives, listing each other as responsible party in life-threatening emergencies
2006 joint Tax return
The health insurance letter thingee that comes when we stopped him covered under mine (something about continuous coverage or something like that) a copy of that old insurance card with his name on it and my employer, and a copy of the hospital bills we had for him under said insurance.
Copies of joint credit cards
Joint YMCA membership
Color Copies of scrapbook pages of us at different events thus far: 6 Flags, Christmas, In Washington, D.C., 4th of July Parade, Friend's weddings, Pumpkin patch, our link up with other VJ'ers a few weeks ago.....Note: My pages inlude names, dates, and lots of pictures with us around other people. I also tried to use different seasons to show continual togetherness. Probably didn't say that right; but you probably get the point.

I still have to have the title of my car transferred in both our names. They are driving my crazy with their runaround.

I will add 2007 tax return and anything else that come up till August.

Otherwise, I have saved, copied, collated, and filed pretty much from the day of the AOS. I know, I know....I'm #######. But I'm scared. And, I WILL NOT be running around doing all this later. I'll fill out the paperwork, bind it all together somehow, add a check, and send it off. Doesnt' that sound wonderfully easy? Not the story of my life, so we'll just see.

Call your State Farm agent and have them add them to the card. I did that and they sent me a temporary card within days, the permanent one in about 2 weeks.

Have your family write a letter or some kind of a lease and have it notarized. We do not hold a formal lease from our landlord; but are planning on doing the same thing.

Rustle up some mail (Christmas cards), junk mail, etc. with both your names on it too.

Is she on your life insurance policy as beneficiary? If not, do that and get a copy.

Did you fill out an Advanced Directive in healthcare decisions should you become incapacitated and unable to make your own decisions? If not, you can both do that, naming the other. You can find them on the internet, at the library, office supply stores.....just have them notarized.

I think I would add her to your bank account(s) if I were you.
