QUOTE (jj1028 @ Aug 12 2008, 05:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
dont worry ull get used to it, i used to miss rice too when we first got here but i got used to it.. and yeah rice is available in every grocery store, i like jasmine rice and we get it by bulk at a Filipino store here but even if i have a sack of rice, i rarely have it.. maybe 2-3 times a week or sometimes only 1x a week or none since my fiance isnt into rice too much. Its just a matter of adapting.. Welcome to the USA

That is so ironic. I went from barely eating rice maybe once a month, to eating it almost every single night. I guess adapting is the right word.

Go to the nearest international grocery store and see if you can find the kind of rice you like.

PhilippinesShame on U.s. embassy in manila
QUOTE (JNUEM @ Sep 12 2008, 04:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My fiancé went to her seminar after passing the interview. We thought the seminar would tell you everything about the USA, and what to expect and how to count money or something Or about the weather or something educational and helpful. Instead they flooded her brain with discouraging stories and videos of the Filipinas that got treated bad. Stories, pics and vids of prostitution, beatings and death etc. Can you believe the embassy passed fiancé visa interviews and the couple have only known each other for a month or so.. This really pissed me off to know they do that during the seminar instead of making you feel comfortable. I mean the process is frustrating enough, and then they do that at the end of it to stress you out more. How sad is that. And you have to pay for it.

Shame on The U.S embassy in Manila

MY fiance arrived on my bday. sept 2 woohoooooo!

While it doesn't sound like it was presented in the best manner, I think it is important information to be made aware of.

It can be as much as $75 each.

depends on bag?? not the weight of the bag?? unsure.gif

I think I may be confused with what you are saying. Are you saying excessive baggage as in more then 2 checked bags? Or are you saying excessive baggage as in overweight; but still 2 bags. Or, are you saying both?

They say the same thing about Jamaican men.

PhilippinesWhat can I put in a carry-on bag?
I would say powdered makeup is fine as well.

However, I took some LUSH bathbombs and solid bubble bars domestically and was stopped and questioned. Went to secondary security. LUSH uses almost all natural ingrediants....lots of fruits, nuts, etc.....Not sure if that is what set something off or just the shape of them; but it was something.

I don't think for a second they would take your makeup away from you. But, there is a chance you may go to secondary for a minute.

No worries.

PhilippinesCustody Papers
In Jamaica, if the father's name is on the birth certificate, you have to have a DNA test and then you have to get a notarized document from the father stating the child can immigrate to the US.

I think it is going to be pretty much the same for all countries. They are not going to let the child come without that.

I thought about that a million times. I do have fears and they arent unfounded. But i dont fear the idea of getting married to my fiance, i was ready the moment i said Yes. Otherwise, i wouldnt have agreed to marry him. I came to realize its the changes and complications that will come after marriage that makes me nervous. Plus, i have to go halfway around the world to be with him makes it even more scary. But Im up for the challenge. smile.gif

*sigh* I have to learn how to cook.... wash my clothes (his too).... wash the dishes...... CHORES blink.gif unsure.gif . There are so many things i take for granted in here.

Hi Ping, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am used to doing household stuff and can manage on that. but the more delicate part is caring for the man and getting along with his family plus cultural differences. We were raised up in the same church but have really different personalities he is quite liberal and i am conservative, how should one handle that??

Lots of honesty, communication, and compromise. It's pretty typical of every relationship.

Don't overthink this. It's not like everything hits you all at once. As an issue comes up, you deal with it together. Soon enough, you are just rolling right along, comfortable with each other and the life you are making together.

QUOTE (jasman0717 @ Oct 29 2008, 12:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Claudeth and I have had some discussions about having a baby. I am a bit worried about it because I am 59. My Father died when he was 53 and I was only 9 and I was cheated from being able to grow up with him. I don't want that to happen but then again, I would love to share the blessing of a child with my wonderful wife, best friend and life's companion.

What do you think?

There is no guarentee any of us will live through today. I, personally, cannot live with "what ifs".

It's something to have serious discussions about and make a decision both of you can live with. And, I agree with Almaty, if you are this worried, please make sure they are taken care of if that were to happen to you.

I hope you guys figure it out!

PhilippinesSetting up a P.O Box CSC jurisdication
QUOTE (my_panacea = Greg @ Oct 29 2008, 05:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Vj's.

I'm so desperate now to be with my husband, because of this, One of my kind friends here in Vj told me that my husband can set up a P.O Box which CSC has the jurisdiction of it. My husband is from Louisiana and I would never wanted our papers to end up in VSC so my friend told me that if my husband can set up a P.O Box in Louisiana but the CSC has the jurisdiction of it so by the time we sent our papers it will be processed by CSC.

Anyone who did this?, or how risky is this to do? Pls share some Pro's and Con's of this matter.
And how can we begin this with.
Thank you. rose.gif

Step away from the crack pipe!

Kidding. Sorry. I know the wait is hard. But, it's not impossible to wait it out. Everyone on this site has been there in one way or another. The timelines change all the time as they realize there are backlogs and try to correct the situations.

Please don't do anything illegal or stupid in an attempt to bypass the system. In the end, this could hurt you so much more then it would benefit you.

Hang in there.

Do you have an international store in your area? We have Global Foods and Jays International in St. Louis. That's where I find all our Jamaican foods. They have aisle after aisle of flags hanging from ceilings indicating the country(ies) represented in each aisle. Check for something like that.
