Hi everyone,
Still waiting for my NOA2. NOA1 receipt date was Feb. 19th. My State Senator made an inquiry and was told my file is in security check. Has anyone had this problem, and approximately how long did it take for you to hear anything? Please help! I am beyond frustrated.
Thanks

Congrats to everyone who received NOA2s last week. Keep your fingers (and toes) crossed for the rest of us. I received my NOA1 on Feb 19th and still no touch or email. I think I am in the fifth stage of anxiety. I already contacted my Senator and Congressman. Help!!!!

I found this thread and thought it might be useful to all filers. It is a Q & A with a former adjudicator. I am sure most of you have already seen this, but it was an eye opener to me.

Many Congrats to Cia and Randy !!

Thanks for your response to garfield529. It was helpful for me as well.
May I ask you and other members for some advice on a similar topic. I'm divorced and have a daughter who lives with my ex. When I submitted the I-129F petition in Sep 2009, I realized that there was no place anywhere in the forms, which asked my about details of divorce (other than just the date) or about kids. I wondered wouldn't USCIS wanna know more about me and my past.

And then I see this message from "Cai xia and Randy R". So I'm debating should I write a letter to USCIS describing how long I was married, why we got divorced and where is my daughter now...
1) Should I do that now, while my petition is pending?
2) Being proactive - can it harm / delay my case?
3) or should I wait till I get an RFE?

Plz advise.

Thanks
NOA1 - Sep 29, 2009

I don't think that USCIS is going to care about the details of the divorce as long as you meet the requirement of "legally able to marry." I feel that the letter would help at the embassy stage. After reading the response, I plan to draft a similar letter and have it notarized and added to our growing packet of embassy documents.

Do you mind if I ask? What specifically did they want in your letter about your previous marriage that was not explained in your original submission? Thanks!

I'll tell you what, I'm just freaking out even more. The deeper one looks at the stats, the gloomier the picture appears. First there's the 50-60 days for the NOA2 to come, then there's another 100 + days for the interview to be scheduled. My goodness, the only thing expediting is my aging process.

I agree with you...but I have also been reading and researching a lot of this site and others for almost 6months and have come to realize that things are moving a lot faster recently than in years past. So we have to feel a little blessed...but it is still hard to wait. Go with whatever is cheapest. POE doesn't care what sort of ticket you have.

Check btstore.com, I find the best rates there for international travel and the one-way tickets there ARE actually cheaper than the round trip.

Yes you can enter with a one-way ticket, even though this is technically a non-immigrant visa it's assumed you will marry and transition to immigrant status.

The only thing that I can add to this is the following: if you do purchase a round-trip ticket because it is cheaper, be sure the first leg of the trip is in your country and NOT the US. A few unfortunate souls have done this in the past thinking...well, I am not sure what they were thinking...but keep this in mind. I imagine with the way the airline industry has been lately, a single leg ticket will be ultimately cheaper. Good Luck!!

It's definitely getting harder to stay positive these days, especially with so many April filers that still need to be approved. I feel really stuck these days--not really here, not quite there yet, and time just keeps flying by. Trying not to think about things too much, but some weeks all you want to do is sulk. Because, seriously, being away from your partner blows. sad.gif

It's been a tough time for us as well. Chris is so busy at work, I'm so busy, the time difference makes it nearly impossible to talk, and storms in Missouri are messing up the phone lines so text messages don't seem to be going through. Just not been a fun time and really wishing the separation would end. We're at 228 today. I only started checking recently and know we were at 270-something just a while back so I'm glad we're moving up the list. Priority right now, though, is to stay connected and find the time to talk and laugh.

When people ask me how the visa process is going, all I can say is, "We're just waiting now." And we are. I really don't dwell on it anymore because there's nothing we can do at this point and it will happen when it happens, and the distance blows, but we are strong as a couple and know we're going to be together forever, one way or another. And that--not having to worry about the relationship itself--makes the waiting much, much easier. We talk sometimes about how, if October rolls around and there's no approval, we'll start thinking about another visit. But for us (Bangkok and St. Louis), visits are expensive, especially as we're saving for our life together. Anyway. We're holding on. Life is quiet and we're both busy with work, and that keeps us distracted.

As for pictures, some of ours are here: http://www.facebook....mp;id=504478551

I have vonage - which is $24.99 a month with unlimited calling to the UK on land lines. Also, for $5 a month more I have a 'virtual' number that is a local london number that she can call that rings to my home phone. Also, she has BT international plan for like £6 a month its unlimited calling to USA (only catch is it's good for an hour, the like .02p a minute after...so we just talk for like 55 minutes and hang up and reset and call back lol).

the part that kills us is texting. It's not as bad as its been in the past. T-mobile is really good on this side and that side as well. I only play $.15 per outgoing text and incoming is free (since i have unlimited texting) for international texts. I think her's is 20p for outgoing text and free incoming for international...

With cell phone usage she basically calls me...and we do the whole talk for an hour, hang up and call back...etc. It's complicated...but it's our system that works smile.gif

Oh, and we use MSN all the time! Besides emails, and snail mail letter/cards etc. I do have to admit, I look forward to when she's here - my cell phone bill will thank me!

We got Vonage as well but before we could even use it I blew it up by plugging the charger in without checking voltage. So it took a lot of hassling to try and get it replaced, and we cancelled the service before we even used it. I can call Chris from my cell for B. 4 a minute (B. 30 = 1 US dollar) and with a phone card that's down to just B. 1 a minute. Chris can call me with a phone card for a few cents a minute as well. So it works for us. Texting is definitely kicking my ### because it's more expensive per text than calling directly each minute, but it's what is most convenient for us.

We e-mail rarely (mostly so we have evidence for the interview) and send cards and stuff every few weeks.

VJ's K-1 AOS guide covers most of what you need to know.

Off topic, I had a complete breakdown Friday morning as I started to think about how long it will be before Chris and I are together again. I kept bursting into tears and feeling incredibly sorry for myself. It really is hard to think that so much of your future depends on the government, people that don't know you and really don't care about you. Ugh. Today was a little better and I feel somewhat saner. But I'm sure there will be many more bawling days ahead.

Still waiting for our NOA1, seven days after CSC received our petition. Work is keeping me busy, which is good, but Chris is sick at home today. It's hardest to be apart when one person isn't feeling their best. I think that I too expected things to move at a certain pace and really believed I would be back in St. Louis by the end of the year. I don't think that's going to happen so we're having to think about *maybe* another visit from him, but we really want to save for our life together. As for a wedding, we know we'll have a proper wedding with friends and family down the road. As soon as I arrive in St. Louis we'll probably do a courthouse run, just him and me and a judge. (I like how the St. Louis County site says the ceremony with take three to five minutes. Ha.)

Our petition was delivered at CSC Monday morning and since then I've been obsessively checking e-mail for NOA1. I read on some post on VJ that someone didn't get NOA1 (hard copy or via e-mail), but found out on the website. What website is this? And how can you find any information about your pending case online without application receipt number?

I am definitely anxious, and I know it's silly because this is going to take time. Maybe a lot of time. Sometimes it just feels like I'm still walking through a very long, very dark tunnel, with no end in sight. Depressing much? blush.gif

So just wondering if anyone knows anything about tracking your case even before NOA1.

Are you going to try for a work stamp at point of entry? And what about getting the new one before it runs out? Just interested as I was thinking bout what I will do. Don't wanna be twiddling my thumbs all those months.

I am definitely going to ask about EAD at POE. What do I have to lose? I am hoping to be married ASAP after entry (him, me, and a judge), mostly so EAD and AOS can be sent off right away. It will be very stressful if only one of us is working, but we are saving as much as possible right now so that we are able to make it through a couple of months on just one income. I don't want to tell her it will be six months when it might take four or eight, and these are the moments when I really do feel like pulling my hair out--having this amazing opportunity and not being able to do much but hope to the Goddess the United States government is in a good mood.

I think it's the proof of meeting/relationship that gets me most anxious. I keep thinking of *new* things to add to the application, and then keeping scanning and sending Chris more documents and I'm all, "Check your e-mail! Print those documents! Life and death!" I feel really nervous that I'm not the one mailing it off to CSC because I've been reading up like crazy on the process and Chris really hasn't. Here's to staying sane through the process.

Thanks everyone for your replies. But is it an absolute necessity to meet up once again? To be honest we're both very poor right now and can't afford the transatlantic flights. Would the consulate in Berlin give weight to the fact that we've lived together for more than a year both here in America and in Germany?

Having lived together is surely good proof! Your interview will be at Frankfurt embassy, that's the only embassy in Germany which gives out K1 visas.

Good luck!

(I asked Daniel that question online - his reply was - what do you mean, like do we look different???) tongue.gif

Its NOTHING to do with looking different, so dont be naive here. What Brokensmile is trying to say is that different countries have their traditions and cultures, NOTHING is going to change that no matter how you try, so obviously there will be challenging times when it comes to this, if not right away, they surely will come to the surface eventually. And if there's a different religion thats another issue altogether.

For some, maybe. I do get tired of people telling me we SHOULD have racial issues. I've been married to him for over 2 years now. When exactly should I expect these issues to surface?

I don't think she was being naive. She was repeating what her husband said to her. I thought it was funny. Andre and I always talk about how much alike we are that we are practically twins. We often look in the mirror and say it. She was talking in that same vein.
