Gawd I'm so nervous already but I'm unsure if it is because of the interview or because I have to go to work tomorrow... I will have a not-so-fun talk tomorrow with some manager and, on top of that, I will give them my resignation letter tomorrow as well (I really can't stay there, if I get denied on the visa I will still leave there coz I'm so fed up with them) so yah, I reaaallllly hope I will get approved on tuesday.. can't wait to hear that I have to leave my passport with them biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm crossing my fingers for you good.gif

Just wondering, for everyone here who is married already or who will be married before the end of the year, do you plan on getting the SSN before or after the marriage? No-one seems to agree about this issue on visa journey...

For me and Olga, it is SSN application the day after arrival - the office is only a mile or two away. I figured that there's enough going on that the more things I can get off my list the better my mental health. Name changes can be done later if the number doesn't come through for the wedding. With my schedule, anything that can be done, must be done without putting off. But that's just me yes.gif

If you do it too fast, they will have to manually inquire about your status to DHS and it will take 6 weeks at least. On the guides here they say to do it at least 2 weeks after she arrives.

Re. SSN...I'm going to try for after marriage, as I'd prefer my SSN to be in my married name and it seems a little pointless to go through the hassle of getting everything in my maiden name and then have to change it.

This is exactly what we think too, but from what some people said on VJ, some workers at the SSA don't seem to know their own rules, which is a little scary! I guess we'll have to make sure we have all the proof that it is legal to do it this way!

So Cecile what did you guys end up doing for your birthday? Where did you go to eat? Details lady!!! Also what all have you done since getting there? Again details....well maybe not all...well unless u wanna share for those of us a bit hard up at the moment that we have to live vicariously through others heehee.....

Whose special someone arrives to the US next?! Or should I say who on here goes next?

Well, first, Friday we went shopping and he bought plants for the apartment (it is what I wanted him to buy for my birthday). Then Monday evening we went to an Indian restaurant (http://www.indiapalaceairport.com) which was absolutely fantastic. It was on the 11th floor of a building and we could see the airport by the window, and that was pretty amazing especially when the sky became dark. And while eating and looking at this airport, I was thinking "ahahah this time I am not leaving anymore" devil.gif
And next Friday we are having a party for my birthday, my arrival in the USA and the housewarming of the apartment smile.gif should be nice. So far 20 people are going to come, half of them that I don't know.

Well, about my news, I just arrived to Minneapolis yesterday!!!!!! kicking.gif
Leaving my family in France was harder than I thought to be honest.... I lived almost 9 months at my sister's (with my brother in law and my nephew), we were, and still are so close......I almost felt guilty to let them alone in France. crying.gif
After my flight, I went through the POE, which went fine. The guys was friendly, and after five mns, I was done!
I also appreciate because there were such big lines for the visitors to go through immigration, and nobody in the "new immigrant" line. After our long waiting process, I enjoyed that moment! devil.gif
When I passed the doors, my sweet baby was waiting for me with a huge bouquet of flowers!! luv.gif We kissed, and I realised I was in front of all those persons waiting for the others passengers....I then saw everybody was smiling at us, so it was ok if they looked!! laughing.gif
We're staying right now at his mom's (we live 4h away from the airport), which is ok, they have such an amasing place (I always felt comfortable!), and I just enjoyed my time with my love.
This morning, I woke up at 6.30 am! wacko.gif and it seems it is also getting hot outside! I cannot wait to get back to our place, and see everybody back!! and unpacked my suitcases! and be all alone with my love! luv.gif
You guys have all a nice day! smile.gif

Yeah!!! Congratulations! Yes, the POE at Minneapolis is definitely good. You are probably going to be tired the next days and wake up very early and fall asleep in the middle of the day tongue.gif At least that is what happened to me!

I'm so glad you are settling in - and remember, I warned you about the heat in St. Louis laughing.gif I think you have the right attitude - one step at a time...... After all the hype and anxiety and waiting the sudden silence has to be a little deafening. It will be nice for you to get into a routine again that will keep you busy. If you two ever get buggy, Chicago isn't that far away.....

Chicago is definitely a place where I want to go soon! I will let you know if (and when) we decide to go!

Thanks everyone for wishing me happy birthday smile.gif so far everything is just perfect smile.gif (well ok, if it could be less than 80F outside when I wake up at 7am, it would be even more perfect, but what can we do...)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Sunny I hope things will go very smooth after the RFE. With all these things you are sending them, there should not be any more problems.

Damian, we live in south St. Louis. There seems to be several people from this area on visa journey!

So, I've been in the USA for 4 days now, it is VERY hot right now, I knew it was hot but I had forgotten it would be that bad wink.gif I'll get used to it. the good thing is I don't need to blow my hair after the shower: two minutes outside and it's done!
I have been exhausted the entire weekend from the jet lag. I have opened a bank account at NationalCity, they only needed my passport and another ID (I showed them my French driver license). No SSN needed. Now I'm waiting for my bank in France to set the wire transfers via the Internet.
It is nice to be here again, and together. I have met some new people and some old ones too, so nice to see them again smile.gif I feel quite overwhelmed by the many things I will have to learn (all the conversion things, getting used to new products at the grocery stores, driving, etc.) but as long as I do all this step by step it should be ok.
Today is my first day completely alone, Bryan went back to work this morning. And when he comes back, we will go to a restaurant because today is my birthday smile.gif we can finally celebrate together.
We will probably get married by the end of August.

I am in the USA!!!
Minneapolis POE was a bliss, there was a 'new immigrant line', so it took me between 5 and 10 minutes to go through immigration. the officer was very friendly and smiling all the time. he asked how we met, and when we would get married.
Now I am in St. Louis, I didn't sleep very well (damn AC is too noisy) but it doesn't matter because we are now together smile.gif

I'll come back later, I'm going back in his arms now smile.gif

Gareth assured me this is a GOOD thing and hopefully we will finally get our approval now once we get this sorted!!!! I am just beyond irritated they waited 193 days to give us one of these! LOL.....can I call right today then to find out what it was you think that is needed?
Thanks again for all your continued support!

Still better than nothing I guess wink.gif As Rachel says, your approval shouldn't take too long after the RFE.
I think I read somewhere that some people tried to call but never got any information about the RFE because the people on the phone don't have access to this kind of information. But it would probably not hurt to try.

I sent it back Friday (full medical) and apparently they received it yesterday. No update on the USCIS website. Actually they are still saying that my case is pending, as if there was no RFE. The status never changed, I knew I had an RFE only when I received their letter. So I kind of expect that I won't know anything else until they send me my letter of approval or interview date.

hi, there! my fiance applied the petition last january 2009 and we had NOA1 29th jan. he mailed back RFE around march 25 and each time we check our case online it says 'pending' (we were touched once only - 17th march). now my fiance is on business travel outside US (he's here now with me!! till may 2nd and we dont have any way to check our status other than online USCIS but still to no avail. we're only both hoping and praying that his mails are now full of approvals and we'll work on them soon as he comes back to Michigan.

anyway, good luck to you and to all of us who are still waiting. i'm positive everything will turn out right in God's time. thanks for your time reading this.

Welcome Rizamike1. This topic was started last year (we applied for a K1 in January 2008) but it is still alive because now that most of us are with our spouses, we still want to keep touch with our fellow Jan 2008 filers.
I hope you will have good news when your fiance checks his mailbox when he's back to Michigan! But even if there's no good news yet, don't worry and remember that this visa process takes time. Hopefully you will be together again soon.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Here's a summary of my week! Copied/pasted from my 'rfe for medical' topic (so don't read if you've already read it! tongue.gif)

Monday I went to the civil surgeon to have the physical medical, and the TB skin test. I didn't have any records from my previous medical (in France, to get the K1) but I had my French health book where my doctors had put every vaccine I had. Also I had a paper that proved I had the first 2 shots of the HPV vaccine here in the USA (waiting for next month to do the third). The doctor also gave me a sheet with the blood tests I had to do.
This visit cost me $150 for medical + $30 for TB test = $180

Next day, Tuesday, I went to get the blood test done. It took only 5 minutes (waiting time + test) I'm amazed I didn't have to wait longer. Insurance covered this.

Thursday I went back to the doctor office to show her my reaction to the TB skin test, positive of course as I had the BCG vaccine as a kid (one of its secondary effects is to give wrong TB skin test results apparently). So she ordered me to go get a chest X-ray. She also got the blood test results, everything was fine.
So then I went to get my X-ray done. Insurance covered that too.

And today (Friday) I went back to the CS's office, she said my x-ray was fine, no apparent TB symptoms. She finished filling out the I-693 form and then she told me I should still take a treatment against TB because it may mean that I have a dormant TB (which I'm pretty sure I don't, it's only the BCG vaccine, as she even said the first day I told her). She said that some jobs, in healthcare mostly, will require me to have the treatment done. I don't plan on working in healthcare at this point so I'm not sure it's worth bothering, the treatment is 9 months long or something like that...

Anyway, then I went to the post office and sent my RFE back to USCIS. I'm done for now, now I can start waiting again smile.gif

I don't mind the wait so far, as long as I am in the USA with my husband and that I have my EAD (although I haven't found a job yet), but I hope it doesn't take 6 more months because then I would start thinking something is wrong!
I had my medical exam Monday, my blood tests yesterday and I'm going back tomorrow to see the results of the blood test and the tuberculosis skin test (which is turning positive since I had the BCG vaccine as a child), and hopefully it will all be finished soon! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Yes I think it has to do with the fact that my package was transferred to CSC. Also, I think that USCIS has lost my medical (and from what I've read on VJ this seems to happen a lot). Maybe they didn't lose yours.
On the AOS October topic there's someone who was approved without an interview (probably after transfer to CSC) and they hadn't done the i-693 either. So it just depends.

I have an appointment with the civil surgeon this afternoon. They say it costs $150 for the whole medical + additional costs for vaccines if needed. Which I shouldn't need since I've done everything in the past.

Hopefully once I send the RFE back they approve my AOS and send me my green card very fast, without an interview.

Just received a RFE for my medical (which of course does not show on the USCIS website)
I'm not sure if they want only the vaccination part, if I have to do a turberculin skin test, if i have to redo everything, etc.

Congrats again Jeroen!

My parents finally bought a webcam! So far we mainly talked via MSN but only typing because apparently they don't like to talk with the microphone, they find that weird (but it's not so different than a phone, isn't it? tongue.gif ) And this weekend they decided to buy a webcam. Which is even stranger because if they don't like to talk with a microphone I find it strange that they want to talk with a microphone + a camera. Oh well, at least I got to see them yesterday for a few minutes, it was nice. I had seen them only once or twice since I left, when my sister was back home and had her webcam.
The bad thing is that their computer is old, it only has USB 1.1 and 256Mb of memory, and their Internet connection is kind of slow. So the sound I receive isn't smooth and I have to make them repeat at least half of what they say.
But still, it's kind of cool biggrin.gif
