It is strange to see how the different embassies work. Here they don't expect you to have your medical before you get packet4. And how do they know if you have set an appointment for the medical?

I had lunch with my coworkers today, and we drank margaritas to celebrate my boss's promotion, which was nice, but now it's hard to find the right way to say things in English tongue.gif

Heh...a lady in the UK forum had her interview earlier this month and was approved but only pending further checks. They decided it wasn't worth the hassle and sorted out her husband getting a UK visa instead.

...two weeks later and he already has his UK visa! blink.gif

And that's the moment when we all shake our heads and wonder why the immigration for the USA isn't that fast... tongue.gif

I just looked at who is still waiting on Igor's list, it's crazy to see that there are still around 30 December/January filers waiting. And a few ones who filed before December. I'm still crossing fingers for everyone waiting, Sunnybear, shes, estadia too, and everyone else.

WAHHHHH tell me about it! wacko.gif mad.gif blink.gif crying.gif Still hanging in here but dang I want OUR approval!!!!

Well, at least, seeing so many names on the waiting list makes me think that you are not the only one, that your case is not like poor Sara's case. I still think that you will get your approval sooner than they told you you would.

I know this feeling dbears, even though I don't have my visa yet.
When I opened packet 4 and read my interview date, everything started to seem very close. In a month I'll have the interview, and in a month and a half I may be in the USA! I want it to be as soon as possible, but I am very thankful that they didn't put my interview earlier, because that way I am still going to have some time to spend with my family and friends. July is going to be the "goodbye" month... Kinda scary!

I have another problem, but this one easier I think. On packet 3 I need to write down Damon's current address and the address I will be staying at. But he's going to move on the 21st of July. What should I write?

I would write his current address in the "current address" spot if you send packet 3 back before the 21st of July.
And for the address you will stay at, I would put the future address, and add a cover letter explaining that he will move the 21st and that the address you will be staying at is the new one.
I almost had a similar problem: Bryan was going to move the 15th of June, but I got packet 3 the 12th, so I wrote his new address everywhere (and explained in the cover letter why it was different than the address on the I-129F) You can read this too: petitioner moving

#######. Mary will be here tomorrow and packet 3 has not shown up there yet. Shes going to be here for 3 weeks so if it shows up while she is here - which is highly likely - we are going to have someone courier it to us here - complete it - ship it back - and have them courier it to Montreal. Timing seems to always suck! If we don't do that it will add at 0-3 weeks to the timeline. We are rushing to try and get her and her son down here before school starts in Sept but thats unlikely based on the timelines.

why do you need to ship it back AND have them courier it to Montreal? Can't you just send it back to the embassy, directly from the USA to Montreal?

(it looks like I'm talking to myself on this thread today tongue.gif)
I called another doctor and my medical will be Thursday next week. I just hope I did the right thing and that the fact that I didn't wait for packet 4 won't be a big deal. From what they said, it doesn't really matter since the medical is good for a year (I am not sure about that though)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
And I just called one of the doctors for the medical exam and she said that it is better to wait until I receive packet 4. Because if it takes longer than I think or if there is one piece missing to my file, it wouldn't work very well, so I should wait.
The thing is I'll be in Paris until the middle of July, and I would have liked to have the medical before I leave. That would have been one thing that I wouldn't have to stress about anymore.
Maybe I'll call one of the other doctors this afternoon.

Hi RagSwat! it looks like you have everything ready for the interview.

As for your questions,
1 - I believe they keep them
2 - no idea for that question, and it probably depends at which embassy you go
3 - if you know the date you are going to travel, you can tell them. otherwise, just tell them "as soon as I have the visa" (or a month later, if you travel later)
4 - I have read different things on that subject. Some people say that since we are K1 visa holders, we don't need to send anything medical for AOS (they say it here: USCIS website) I have also read that if you have a copy of your medical/vaccination record done before the K1 interview, you can go to a civil surgeon and they will fill out the I-693 with the information on the record. But in some countries (France is one of them) they don't seem to want to give copies of that record, only a copy of the DS-3025 (not sure what it is since I haven't had my medical exam yet) ; apparently you can send a copy of this form for AOS instead of I-693.

Wow that's big BS! You should print something from the USCIS website to show them that K1 exists. Did you call the Department of Revenue? They will know if you can or can't get a DL while adjusting your status (since it varies for every state) If they tell you that you can, ask them what you can do to prove the DMV office that you can. That's how they told us that they will have to call the Fraud and Immigration department if they want to know the truth. But from what you say, I have a feeling that they won't even try to call them, they will just continue saying that you can't... Are there several DMV offices around where you live? maybe you should try a different one.

Michelle and I went to some places, such as the Social Security office, DMV, banks and such today for her name change (since we received the marriage certificate yesterday) and while at the DMV, I thought to myself, lets just go for the instruction permit (written test and eye exam) since it is not busy anyways.. result: I passed nicely without any study on it (only one mistake and a stupid one too lol) and got my instructional permit now biggrin.gif biggrin.gif As for my bad eye, I was tested on both eyes and they noticed (obviously) the bad eye so I got a notification in my license saying that I need to have a mirror on the right side of the car (all cars have that these days so no worries I think). Next step for the DMV will be the road test, which I might do tomorrow morning if I am awake on time, otherwise I just do it later lol, there's no rush. Also, there was no problem about my visa or anything, all they needed to see is my identification (passport but they didnt look at the visa or i94) and the SSN (SSN is basically already proof that you have a visa or they wont issue it). Im glad it all went so smoothly and as for gates of hell (remember the series? lol), no sign of that here in Hawaii biggrin.gif

Is your instruction permit good only until your I-94 expires, or does it work like a "normal" one?

I could have gotten a DL while on K1 but it would only have been valid until the end of October so I decided not to. The Department of Revenue website says that while adjusting my status I can get a DL, so I went to a first DMV office where they told me that it was wrong, I can't get one until I am approved for the AOS (or for the EAD). I went to a second office and the woman went to ask her supervisor (I assume that's what she did, she disappeared with all my paperwork for 5 minutes), and told me that when I have a proof that I am adjusting my status I can apply for a DL. So, just to make sure, when I received my NOA1, I came back to their office to ask them if the NOA1 is really what I need, and this time they told me that no, it had to be approved. which didn't make sense. So once outside the office, Bryan called the Department of Revenue for Missouri, and they told us that yes, I can have a DL even without being approved for the AOS. They told us that if the DMV office says something else, they should call the "Fraud and Immigration" department (yeah they put immigration with fraud, isn't that funny?). So we came back inside the office, told us what they had told us on the phone, and the woman said "Ok, then you go pass your driving exam and then you come back here and we'll call them to make sure, and there shouldn't be any problem"
So after all I should be able to have a DL soon.
And the DMV of Hawaii may be nice, but the ones in Missouri ARE the gates of Hell!!! tongue.gif

My plan was that next year (2009) my parents come to the USA, and the year after I (or we, depending on how things work with jobs, vacation time, etc) would go back to France for a week or two. So that would be 2010. I don't want to go back to France to early because I want to make my life here first. And then, maybe I'll go back every two year or so.

2 months? that's pretty long.

On another note, I received my NOA1s for the AOS today. A new waiting game started, but I'm not really waiting at this point. We are together, I like being a housewife, there's still some money on my bank account (not sure for how long though tongue.gif), so really, I don't feel like I'm waiting for anything. Unless I can't get a driver license with my NOA1. Then yes, I'd be waiting impatiently!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
No, it's the Secretary of State (the ones who will put the apostille) who told me they can't do it until it is notarized. but I think it depends on where you are from. I checked their website and they said that marriage certificates from Jefferson county and St. Louis county have to be notarized, but they don't say the other ones have to be. So I'd say that if they gave you the apostille without any problems, you should be OK.
I haven't sent anything at the consulate yet (except for the 'publication des bans' three months ago). Yesterday was my opportunity to get the apostille because I was in the right area. Now I'm going to have to make extra trips to get it. Or maybe i'll do it by mail. This is a pain in the ***... It almost makes me not want to do the transcription at all... but I guess I'd better do it anyway.
Cecile and BryanFemaleFrance2008-10-23 11:43:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Need to vent...

I need to send my certified copy of marriage certificate to the French consulate in Chicago so they will do everything they need to do to have the marriage recognized in France. Of course they need a few other things, like our birth certificates, etc. there's already one small problem with Bryan's birth certificate: it shows the county of his birth, and not the city. they already told us we need to get a new BC with the city, but when we asked for the new one, it still has the county. so I guess they'll have to do with this one anyway.
Now, the tricky thing is that the certified copy of marriage certificate (let's call it certified copy) needs to have an apostille, given by the secretary of state. I went there yesterday, and they told me that first, the certified copy has to be notarized.
So, certified copy + notarized + apostille.... isn't that a little too much just to prove that it is an official document? come on! we don't need three different certifications! mad.gif
