Good morning all! I am going to call tonight an early one most likely as tomorrow have long day ahead as my friend and I head to Chicago to go see The Cure in concert! I am beyond excited since they been one of my fave bands since I was in the 8th grade haha. Not really that into all their newer stuff so sure hope they mix it up, but regardless a band I have always wanted to go see!

Sooo hoping to see tons of approvals pop up to surprise me in the morning! Good luck all!!!!

That's so great! I'd love to see them live too. Like you, i'm still stuck on the last albums, not the new ones.

Oh my gosh guys, the end of my journey is nearing....
I just cannot believe it......
Yet I am so nervous that something bad will happen at the interview.
(Sorry off topic, but I am a CSCer)

Everything should be fine if you have everything in order. For the "should I be with her for the interview?", ask yourself what is best in the long term aspect. of course, it would be help your fiance feel better, and you would be with her family one last time before she leaves them, but if you end up losing your job or if you don't get your degree at the university then it might not be the best option. On the opposite, I know that for some embassies it really helps if the US citizen is here. Only you can decide what you should do.

Rachel, the first time I read your comment about the teddybear, it didn't seem rude to me. I can understand how someone for whom that teddybear carries an important memory could find it rude though. But you couldn't know, it's not your fault.

You're company was aware about you plans Cecile?

No. I did talk to them about going to the USA last year. They have subsidiaries over there so I asked them if there would be any job there for me. Sadly there wasn't. I haven't told them anything about me going there and getting married. Since then, I believe, the people I talked to were replaced by new ones who don't know anything about me. The thing is that I'm employed by a SSII (software and computing services company), but they send me to their client office. So I don't see my bosses very often. If I could see them more, I would have probably told them.

I did bring her the other day to see where I work though and it totally freaked her out as too many people...she kept saying "Stranger Danger" LOL boy oh boy what this world has come to that we have to be afraid of all we don't know huh?

And yes I WANT A TOUCH and APPROVAL too! UGH the waiting just plain SUCKS and that is all I can say about that!

Wow it sounds like she was very scared! was it only because there were many people?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Here is my review (copied from my timeline)

It was a piece of cake.
I arrived in front of the embassy at 12:30, they told me to come back 10 or 15 minutes before the appointment time (1pm). So I waited and as soon as people started to go towards the guards, I followed them, the guard checked my appointment letter and my passport and let me enter. I was the second person to enter.
They took my cellphone and my ibuprofen, I didn't have any other "potentially dangerous" items. I took a ticket with a number (A111, easy to remember) and took a seat. There were lots of people sitting there (from the morning appointments). It is a big room with 18 "windows" around, but there were only 6 or 7 with people working behind them.
At 1pm they started calling the numbers starting by A. They took my appointment letter and the small part of my ticket. Then I went back to my seat.
The second time, another woman asked me if my address and my fiance's address had changed. She also asked when I was planning to go back to the USA. Then she took my birth certificate, my police record, etc, the forms DS-156 and DS-156K (she also told me that I should have filled out the DS-157 just in case, but no-one asked me for it). She then took the I-134 and all the related financial information. She only kept the tax transcripts of 2007.
Bryan had wrote a letter explaining why he did not make enough last year (though his current income is above the 125% of poverty line). She was reading it, and she told me that it didn't matter, only the current income was necessary. She also added that we should not need a co-sponsor to adjust status when we're married. She was speaking very fast, in French, and didn't look very friendly but she answered all my questions.
Then back to my seat for more waiting. Then back to a window, this time with the American consul. She was friendly. While she was filling forms, she asked me when and how we met, what happened after, if we had met each other's parents, if he still lived with his parents, what he does for a living, what I do and what I plan on doing in the USA. She didn't ask any proofs. Just small talk (she even said that Bryan's birthday was the same as his brother's, and she laughed when I told her that it was my dad's birthday too) She then said that all our paperwork was in order, that the visa was approved and that I should get it by mail at the end of the week.
It took an hour and forty minutes (and 7 hours of train tongue.gif). Most of the time I was waiting. Everything was easy, no bad surprise.
If everything goes well, I should be in a plane next week!

Thank you everyone here for being so supportive smile.gif

Hello everybody! I am stuck at home today: I am waiting for a package that Bryan sent me, it contains everything for the co-sponsorship of his parents. It is supposed to arrive today and it will require signature, so I'm not going to leave home. Sadly they usually deliver the mail in the morning, not the afternoon. So I'm a little skeptical. I'll probably receive it tomorrow.
On a lighter note, I got my wedding dress back from the seamstress yesterday!!! I didn't take any pictures, so, sorry you won't see it now. It feels so good to finally have it with me! And I found a dress that will be perfect for the party/reception after our courthouse wedding, so, yeah, yesterday was a good day (also, beach the afternoon and dinner with my best friend the evening). next steps: sorting all my stuff and find out how to bring everything to the USA, and I need to find a veil too... I don't have any accessories for my dress...
Enough talking about me!

Sunny, this is a beautiful ring!!! Lovely!

Rachel, congrats on moving to your friends' house! For me, it has been hard to get rid of things. I am going to try to bring everything inside two suitcases, nothing more. What a challenge!

WaitForever, you should just call the embassy and tell them the truth: that your fiancee was visiting you at the time she received their package and that you had it forwarded to your place but that you haven't received it yet. You are probably not the first person who did this, in the same case scenario, I am sure we would have done the same thing.

Blake, (not sure I answered you when you wrote your post) that ex is a jerk! I'm glad everything is back to normal now.

Ok OK OKKKK nope no NOA2 yet BUT my impatience got the better of me and I tried the little "Shake your NOA2 loose" thing posted here haha...

Got a super nice lady who was checking into my case etc...and then we got disconnected!!!! Well called back did same thing and luckily got her AGAIN! Well we laughed a bit and then I expressed my concerns etc..told her of the email stating about security checks etc...well she said that is something they send out to people all worried that are still within their first 180 days!!!! Soooo anyway we talked a bit more and I mentioned how I knew people that were approved already that filed in February...well her answer to that was just as I suspected that the cases get divided up and basically some are faster workers than others!!!!!!! ARGHHHH. So I said "Well I think I got the one on vacation then and anyway I can be moved to a faster persons desk" She started cracking up at that one so here's hoping she does something for me! SIGH

So yeah I officially hit my 180 days next week so we shall see what happens....she said most likely I will see approval within 60 days ughh hopefully before that but shoot that is better than another 180 days plus like we were starting to think!!!

Thank you all for continued support and keep those prayers and positive thoughts coming for our NOA2 to arrive!!!

What a relief! I am happy to hear that it won't take 180 more days. you must feel a lot better now!

Sadly it is hardly sunny enough... When I went there last year in August, it was quite cold. At that time, my brother had surf classes and at the end of the class his fingers were almost blue. I hope this will be better this year! I actually never went north, well, not higher than Paris anyway.
I would have liked to travel in Europe before I leave, but I never took the time to plan anything and I'm happy I saved my money. There are so many wonderful countrysides in Europe that I have never seen! But I am sure there will be many different countrysides in the USA too, just different ones wink.gif

I hope you have a wonderful time with your family! I grew up by the sea and I live far away from it now (well, as far away as you can get in the UK) and I've not found it too hard;

I have lived far from the sea for a few years now, and it isn't hard either, I probably only went on the beach once or twice a year for the past 5 years. But if someday I feel like going to the sea, I know that it is easy to do, it's only 3 hours away by train. If I ever feel like going to the sea when I am in Missouri, it is going to be a lot farther and a lot harder!
The good thing about St. Louis is that it is still a big city, but all around it, it is the countryside. It's not like in Paris, where you have to go to parks if you want to see grass! This is going to be a lot better smile.gif

hmm... this made me think of what I will miss most of my country when I'm in Hawaii.. and I think, country wise, I will miss the rivers the most.. might sound stupid because I will be surrounded by an Ocean but yah, we got so many rivers over here and I grew up on a ship as well (my dad was a captain) and I am really going to miss that of this place... it is still one of my dreams to once own a small (river) yacht to sail on the rivers over here.. oh well, who knows, that might once become true ^^

You said that Michelle wanted you to go back to Europe together someday, so maybe that day you can have your yacht on the rivers. Or, maybe in Hawaii you could get a boat to sail on the ocean right around the island smile.gif

I hope so.. there's a downside tho, I can't quit my job before October (taking the notice in account) while I was initially hoping for September but oh well, 5 weeks extra on top of the whole mountain should be doable smile.gif

Cool to hear you had your going-away party.. I doubt I get one as most of my friends already left the country haha.. I'll probably do a dinner or something with my family but that's cool too. I can imagine it all feels so final, like you will never see them again even though you might still see them once in a while (over the net or by visiting your birthcountry (I will try to visit my old country at least once a year)). I was a bit sad a bit earlier today, I was searching for addresses of ministers or judges to do our wedding and at once site I was reading the texts which will be said during the wedding and I was initially like 'wow, its getting close and so final'.. oh well, I can imagine we will all be home sick when we're there but as long as we can cope with it then we should be ok smile.gif

October instead of September? wow that's kind of sad sad.gif but still, you will be preparing to move out of the country, so time should fly by anyway. And after that, you will be spending your lifes together smile.gif
I will probably have a dinner with all my relatives in the next weeks. Saying goodbye to my parents is what is going to make it a lot more real and final! I'm sure the next weeks will be full of strange emotions again...

smile.gif Time is going to fly by for you now, Jeroen. You will be in the USA soon. I have noticed the weeks seem to disappear once all the final appointments are set.

Yesterday was my going-away party with my friends from Paris. It feels so strange to say goodbye to everyone. And the feelings were not the same for all of them: there are a few ones that I really felt like it was our last time together, and for other ones, even though we knew it was the last time, it didn't feel this way, it felt like we would be together again in 2 weeks. Really strange. They bought a nice card and wrote sweet goodbye words on it, I felt all emotional again, almost going to cry tongue.gif This morning I feel very tired! I'm glad I don't have anything to do at work anymore.

Poor sunny, I bet! sad.gif

I believe I've mentioned my accident-prone sister here before; the one who is always losing things/having things stolen/getting into scrapes that are never entirely her fault. Anyway, latest story (I can't ring up my parents without hearing of yet another escapade) is that the other night my mother received a phonecall. My sister had been to a concert in Belgium and was able to get a lift back to Tunbridge Wells but had no money to get back to my parents' (100 miles away); could my mother drive out and meet her? The reason she had no money? She'd snapped her credit card. How had she snapped it? By sitting on it. laughing.gif

laughing.gif Maybe when you go back to your parents' home, they will ask you to watch her 24/7, and go to concerts with her, just to see if less accidents happen tongue.gif
I hope you'll get your packet 4 soon, it shouldn't take too long now.

Hmm.. last thursday I've sent the checklist back to the consulate with tracking stuffies so I can track it online to see when they sign for it... it got bounced on friday because of the fourth of July, nobody working there then, and it should have been tried again the day after (or after the weekend anyways) but it's wednesday now and still nothing... called the postal services but they couldn't help me much either as they don't know more than what I see on my screen online, if I want to know more, I have to file a request (for which they now send the papers) but this might take 4-5 weeks until they find out what happened to the checklist :S

I tried calling the consulate this morning but with little luck.. after trying continuesly for 30 minutes I gave up and left my name, number and other information while explaining the situation in their voicemail, asking for them to call me back which I hope they do quickly... I kinda hope it arrived after all or if theres something else I can send to them (as it is just the checklist, they got everything else from me already).

Blergh.. everything was going nicely and now this happens sad.gif

It has only been a week, I think you should wait a little longer before to start stressing about it. Maybe the tracking system of the postal services doesn't work as good as they say, or maybe the person who take care of the mail at the embassy took a week off. I am sure you will hear from them very soon wink.gif

Good morning everyone

So apparently Bryan's parents will be co-sponsors if needed. I just sent them a long email explaining everything and telling them what documents they have to gather (Bryan called them, they said they were ok, and then he asked me to explain everything to them). I doubt we'll have everything on time for the interview, but worst case scenario, I will send them the co-sponsors documents as soon as I get them, so it will only delay things by a few weeks.
Today I have a feeling that we will be fine without a co-sponsor. But we'd better be prepared in case my feeling is wrong.

Where did Blake go?

It'll be a squeeze but I've lived in much worse places. I managed to stay for nearly an entire year in a 6' by 6' (about 1.8 x 1.8 m!) room that had a bed with a holey mattress and peeling wallpaper...

That must have been horrible!!!

I just thought of something when I read the following...
QUOTE (Cecile and Bryan @ Jul 8 2008, 11:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I don't know who in his family would make enough.

Keep in mind that if, for example, you need to get to 20k and Bryan makes 15k, you only need somehow to be able to get an extra 5k somewhere... this might make it a bit easier in finding the cosponsor as you do not need to have a cosponsor who can cough up the whole thing smile.gif

Also, I think people worry too much about the support thingies.. I think the interview as a whole, and all submitted papers, are equally important.

I just looked at packet 3, and they say: "Evidence of support: your petitioning relative in the United States must complete Form I-134 on your behalf and provide supporting evidence proving that you and members of your family who immigrate to the US are not likely to become public charges in the United States. Form I-134 can be downloaded from www.uscis.gov"
So I guess we should be fine.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the three year transcript thingie... someone who just started out working cannot have 3 years of tax transcripts, I'm pretty sure they know this too. If you can show his recent paystubs, they might be very well ok with it smile.gif

yes.gif

I shouldn't be too concerned - you have plenty of evidence of his current salary. I, too, have seen a few people approved whose fiancés have only been earning 125% of the poverty line for a year and who did not have co-sponsors.

I do have a co-sponsor mainly because Alex only had one tax subscript; that was the big problem for us.

*hugs* Cecile - I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thank you all for your nice words smile.gif

It is very frustrating actually. All this visa process has gone without any troubles for us. We got our NOA2 without RFE, in relatively normal processing times, being away from each others wasn't too hard (well, not harder than usual, we're getting used to it tongue.gif), we gathered everything for the embassy on time, my interview date is just perfect, and now, two weeks before the interview, I realize that there is this problem (which may very well be not a problem at all). I am mad at myself for not having found about it earlier. And I feel powerless (not the best word, sorry) because Bryan is asleep and I can't share this with him right now, and I kind of feel that I am doing all this alone (which isn't true) because I am the one looking for the information and he just sends me what I tell him to send me. He would have never realized that his income on the previous tax returns are not enough because he only knows what I told him, he didn't look for additional information. I'm not saying it is his fault, that he's is not involved, because clearly, even though we decided that I would be the one looking for info on VJ, he IS involved (sometimes he tells me "maybe you should ask this on VJ"). But right now, it's frustrating. All alone in front of the computer, waiting to go home for lunch and check what they say on packet 3, and then waiting for him to get up.

Oh well, hopefully that won't be a problem for the embassy (I wonder if it will be one for the Adjustment of Status though?). Most of the people here seem to think that the current income is the only thing that matters.

I can't wait until he gets up!

I also read that some people included a letter explaining why the past tax returns were lower. So we may do this.

Ai.. is there any way for him possible to show that his current income is going over it?

I kinda had a similar problem before as my fiance only just started getting an income, she didn't work a full year last year so only had an income of 20k and we needed at least 20125 for 125% and 2 persons. I think if we did it with her assets alone, we would have been safe too (she owns 3 houses and has money in her bankaccounts) but just to be sure we added a cosponsor who makes well over 110k a year.

If Bryan does not know anyone who made enough, does he have any assets that can be counted in as well?

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the three year transcript thingie... someone who just started out working cannot have 3 years of tax transcripts, I'm pretty sure they know this too. If you can show his recent paystubs, they might be very well ok with it smile.gif

No assets to take into consideration. At least nothing I know of.
Yes I really hope that they won't bother us too much with the tax transcripts. I am going to ask him to scan all his paystubs since the day he started working there! I can't think of anything else that could possibly show that his job is stable.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
I will tell him about all this as soon as he wakes up. I don't know who in his family would make enough. We'll see what he says.

I also found this: "I recently sent three years tax returns to support a sponsorship at the Bombay consulate - it seems that's what they want to see. Even if you didn't have any income - you should still send the three years tax returns, the consulate in India like some others, expect this from what I have read. Good Luck - The Three year tax returns are a sort of requirement - your current income is what qualifies you to meet the 'poverty level plus' test. "
And I found several people who said that. So that would mean the thing they take into account is the current income and not really the tax transcripts. I'm going to do more research on that though.
And I'm definitely going to ask him to do his best to find a co-sponsor (with an interview in 2 weeks, we're going to have to do that fast!) just to be safe...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Well, we have the basic information asked:
- I-134 form
- 3 last tax transcripts
- letter of his current employer stating that he's full-time and makes $16 an hour and that he's been working there since April
- last 3 pay stubs (from this employer), and I'm going to ask him the most recent ones too, so I'll probably have 5 or 6 ones
- I asked him a letter of his previous employer just in case, because as I said he's been to his current one onlly since April, but the previous employer only stated that he has been working there from December (when he came back to France) to April, even though he had been working there since May 2007 (but stopped in October to come here)
I think that's all. I asked him something from his bank but since he basically spent all his money as soon as he got paid in bills and to pay his credit card, there's not much money on his account, so that's pretty useless.
I can't believe I just realized this right now and not a month earlier!!!

Oh by the way, he's 25.

I'm not sure what we could get that would show that his job is stable.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
F**k... I looked at all the paperwork for the interview this morning, and just realized something.
The poverty guidelines (here) are $14000 for 2 people.
I didn't pay much attention before because Bryan kept telling me that he's making much more this year (more than twice this amount), so it will not be a problem. When he sent me his tax transcripts, I-134, etc. I noticed that his income of the past years were not very high (especially since last year he came to France for two months), but figured it was still ok because above $14000 (actually last yeat it was $14600 or something like this).
I just realized that the $14000 on the poverty guideline is not "125% above pov income" but just "poverty line" (yes, that makes sense, I know, I feel very stupid)
So, if we take the 2008 poverty guideline * 125 %, his current income is way above it, but was only above it one year out of the 3 last ones sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
Are they going to ask for a co-sponsor? sad.gif I'm not even sure Bryan knows someone who has made more on the past 3 years...... F**k F**k F**k!!!

As long as you can walk to a grocery store and a few other different places, that should be fine. If it was 15 miles away from the closest store, you may have some problems...

Good morning! Woo! It's all happening now...must be scary! (I'm already scared just thinking about having to tell my work/housemate I am moving back to my parents' and having to cancel all cards, etc.) Good luck!

Still crossing fingers for sunny... sad.gif

Indeed, it IS scary! Everything seems to be going too fast now. After waiting for many months, now I know that the end (of my life here in France) is very close. I am not going to the USA right now but if everything goes well, I should be there in less than a month! and even though I am looking forward to it, it is very stressful to know I only have such a short time left here.
Jeroen, even though September 1st seems quite far from now, I can assure you that the time is going to fly. I gave them my notice two months ago already and it seems like it was only a month ago. Every day I was thinking "just x more days before the end of the week", and every week "x more week just disappeared".
