Yes, so I was asking why not just do electronic?

It is not an option at this point, he just has to wait and wait and call DOS and wait some more.

I sometimes get the same from Olga and I have to remind her to expect that everything will be the same as what she now knows, and anything better, that's just the icing on top of the cake.

I'm not sure about that. It seems to me that a lot of things are going to be different. From the language to the administrative system. Credit cards. Measurements. Tips. The fact that I will be an "immigrant". Stores. Grocery shopping with different products. Even the relationship with my future husband will be different, because the entire context is going to be a new one (even though I've already gone to that country, and we've already lived together for several weeks).
I'm glad it's going to take several months before I'll get EAD. That way I can try to adjust as much as I can in the everyday environment before to have to adjust in a work-related environment.

And for the orcs, with all the good witches and good wizards to protect us, then that shouldn't be a problem wink.gif

One thing you forget Cecile, is that you have a real French accent - and so can expect to be slobbered on by all sorts of people as being a true representative of "high culture". Deserved or not, it doesn't matter. I vote for deserved, however. yes.gif The same generally holds true for the British. As for the Australians and New Zeelanders and other representatives of the Empire - people just want to buy them a beer and listen to the way they talk.

I love wearing my ring, too. I was distraught the other week when I thought I had lost it. My mother and I were walking along a street in London when I noticed it was missing. Fortunately my mother found it in my hotel room! Although I can buy an identical ring online a replacement would not be the same - this is MY ring and it was the one that was given to me by Alex. No ring could ever replace it.

I was thinking about updating my website (which is rarely updated - I have a livejournal for most of my writings) with visa stuff but I hadn't really known what to write. blush.gif

I'm always afraid I'm going to lose it or that it's going to break and the diamond (so strange to say that I have a diamond! laughing.gif) is going to fall from the ring.

The timelines are kinda weird right now. We've had no approvals, yet my anticipated adjudication date has continued to move up. Now I'm at July 2 where yesterday I was at July 4. Go figure. Anyway, if last year is a guide (optimistically stated) this will be the last slow week of the spring holiday season. Next week we shoudl see a significant increase in the number of approvals - this should continue through to the memorial day weekend. According to Igor's list the first January filers are about to crack the 100 mark - which is when I've seen approvals start. The big target is 70 after which I've seen approvals becoming frequent. On occasion the CSC has been able to string together some 30 - 40 approval weeks. So...... even though the slow pace we are seeing right now is depressing, I truely think this is the dark before the dawn.

Yes the timelines are acting strange! I've noticed it too.
If they start approving 30-40 petitions a week again, that means that maybe they're going to start approving January filers in 3 weeks! that would be awesome!

I'm probably not going to have lots of things to take with me either. the very few furnitures I have will go back to my parents' house, they'll do whatever they want with it tongue.gif
I think I'll try to choose which clothes to bring because there are lots that I own and that I never wear (especially old ones). I have two teapots that I almost never use but I want to bring them with me. Some books, some important papers. And probably a few other things I haven't thought about. Oh yeah 4 years ago my family gave me a picture frame with photos of the entire family, I'd like to bring it too (but it's quite bulky...)
Anyway I doubt that is going to fit in two suitcases, but when my parents come for the ceremony wedding next Spring (nothing planned so far) they can bring the rest of it.
Or maybe if NOA2 takes too much time to arrive, I'll go back to the USA for 2 weeks, and that way I start moving my stuff! biggrin.gif

Of course moving is a lot more complicated when you have children! Good luck MissYoko!

lol, nah.. I'm "only" at 76 days atm, we filed at the end of January.. hmmm you're possibly right, at the moment I am doing it like this: When I wake up I check USCIS, Igor's list & vj... then throughout the day normally only vj at random times and when I go to bed, it's USCIS and Igor's list again.. So far I have only seen Igor's list updating at those times so hopefully I can stop myself from checking more often (allthough I wont say it might not happen like you do atm haha).

Hehe I'm almost a December filer! At one point Bryan told me I was allowed to check Igor's list only once a week. I told him I couldn't do that, but that I would try to check only once a day. And.... I did check once a day for 2 weeks. and now it's back at 5 times a day. tongue.gif

Some of the things people have to think about for weddings is insane! Makes me very glad I'm going with a simple ceremony as I can scratch so many things - hairdresser, make-up artist, florist, best man, bridesmaids, cake-maker, DJ, caterers, photographer - right off my list. Sorry, that doesn't help you, Blake! You have my deepest sympathies, though!

Tomorrow is a magical 90 days since we filed! Well, maybe not so magical, but it's when I start growing a little more hopeful smile.gif

No January approvals so far. there has only been 7 approvals from December filers anyway. We're still patiently (well... most of the time biggrin.gif) waiting. Thanks for asking smile.gif

Hairdresser... that reminds me when I went to a wedding gown stores a few months ago. the woman there asked me when the wedding was, I told her that I didn't know the exact date, so then I had to explain her the whole story (I'm marrying an American guy, I'm going to live there, we can't plan anything because of immigration documents, blahblahblah) and at one point she looked at me, stunned, and said: "then how are you going to do for you hair? you won't have time to do several tests with a hairdresser !"
In her mouth that sounded like it was the most important thing ever! laughing.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
@Rachel: dbears is probably right about the fact that your friends don't know how to talk about Alex because they're afraid you'd be sad. Maybe it's also because they don't know him much. One of my friends who has never met him told me once that it's almost as if he doesn't exist for her. I could have invented everything, she doesn't know him so how could she actually ask anything specific about him? My mother has started asking me how he was doing only since she met him last November. And now that we're getting married she's a little more involved (she even sent him a birthday card this week!)

@Blake: when you start being overwhelmed, write down everything. Write down a list of everything you have to do (find church, find flowers, send invitations, etc.) and then you decide which of these items should be done first, and you break it up in a more detailed list. For example, "find church" becomes: check St Patrick church, ask friend X what he thinks, compare prices, etc.
And everytime you do one item, cross it out. ("cross out"... is it how you say it?)

If your favorite color is black you might want to make your POE NY, there the official color is black and I'm sure you'll be able to find everything you could want. I certainly don't follow fashion - I'll wear what suits me; sometimes it's in fashion and at other times it's not. It's actually rather frustrating when certain cuts aren't in style - for example, skinny-leg jeans overtaking boot-cut jeans in the market, or how it's impossible to find clothes in shades of dark red, purple and blue because lime green, orange and yellow is what it's currently all about. There's a huge difference between being fashionable and being stylish and unfortunately right now I feel that I'm currently neither.

I totally agree! I only wear black clothes and haven't been lucky with fashion of these past years sad.gif Either too pale colors or very bright colors. Never black. And I hate loose tops... it makes me look so small... (but I hate tight jeans... go figure). Anyway... it's hard to find clothes for work. it's hard to find clothes "not for work" that I will like. And that's the same for shoes... Either the high heels are way too high, either it's too flat.
I guess we're not supposed to buy clothes we like but clothes that they decided we should buy.

I won't be too far from Chicago either! I doubt I'll travel there very often, but I'll probably come once or twice!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Yes I understand. Try to focus your mind on something else (I know it's a lot easier to say than to do though). Go shopping with your daughter after her day at school, try to see some friends, maybe you can start writing or something... And you have to stay strong and not show your daughter that you're sad. Otherwise she's going to be sad too.
I remember when Bryan left at the end of November, I felt really sad, but after a few days it was better. I focused on something else. It was still related to our relationship (I tried to find a job in the USA, I probably sent more than 150 resumes in less than a week) but it helped me feel better.

And Paris is only a city where you have to stay temporarily, before returning home (in Chicago). Don't forget, it's only Temporary smile.gif

You may have read the old fable about Pandora's box. Out of the box (which she was not supposed to open) came many evils in the world: famine, spite, jealousy, and the like. The only thing left in the box after Pandora recognized the error of its opening was "hope." The modern interpretation of this is that hope can counter all the ills of the world that Pandora unleashed. The ancient Greeks, however, had a different view on the fable. "Hope" was considered the greatest of the evils because "hope" turned people away fron taking control of their lives.

I did know the story but not its meaning. Maybe the ancient Greeks were right. But we can't deny that sometimes a little hope is good too.

This is a beautiful story dbears, thank you for sharing it smile.gif

As for optimism, I think it can be good or bad. Yes, I am optimist when I think that we'll eventually get the visa and be together, and that it will probably be by the end of the year. A "bad optimism" would be to think that I'm going to get NOA2 in the next two weeks. Because if it doesn't, then i'll get depressed. It's just like you said. You were alright while thinking it would take a year. Then you saw the January approvals and you changed your expectations and when the February approvals began, then you felt sad. And that's probably going to happen exactly the same for us.

And when I said that sometimes, it's better being pessimistic than optimistic, it's all relative. I would not let anybody think that it's going to go bad and that we won't be approved! no way! but maybe it's better to think we'll all get our NOA2 in May / June, instead of thinking we'll all get it next week.

We all need optimism to survive this long and painful process anyway!!

Once again, dbears, thanks for your wonderful posts. They always make me (and probably everyone else too) better smile.gif
