So confusing. wacko.gif

From hanging out in the UK forum, it seems that at the medical they only offer you tetanus/MMR vaccinations - all you need for the initial entry into the US. But from what others have said Human papillonomavirus will be required (for women my age) at AOS. If different country's embassies are all saying different things then I wonder how we're supposed to know what will be required and what not?!

And that would be good to know it as soon as possible, since the papillomavirus vaccine is quite long to get (I believe there are 3 shots: 1st shot the 1st month, 2nd shot one month later and 3rd shot 6 months later)!

QUOTE (BlakeandOlha @ Mar 7 2008, 04:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
One thing to remember about the medical's you take is that when it comes to the adjustment of status (looking way down the road) you need to have a medical that is less than one year old. So getting it done and out of the way too early, may require another one in the states depending on how long this process goes on. Have fun with your parents!!

Yes true, it's probably better to wait at least for NOA2.
Anything special planned for this weekend Blake?

The talk of vaccinations is reminding me that there is one thing I should do - go and get all of mine from the doctor before the medical, as it'll be cheaper. I also fall into the age-group (11-26 females) for the Human papillonomavirus which looks to be required for AOS, so I'll need to ask for that, too.

I'm off to visit my parents for a few days! Blake, Cecile - I'm relying on you guys to keep this thread well and alive.

so that would mean the list of vaccination requirements is different whether it's for K1 interview or AOS?

As for keeping the thread alive, I have no idea what I'm going to do this weekend! so maybe I'll be online half of the time tongue.gif
And Blake, MissYoko, and all the other ones, what are you going to do this weekend? (it might give me good ideas!)

Cecil - Why do you have to give three mos. notice? Is that a legal requirement, or just your contractual obligation? Does giving that much notice put you at any risk of just having your contract terminated?

Yes its the legal requirement in France, for work, for rent...

I will have to do the same.

Its one of the big point for me. I wait for the NOA2 to notice my employer i will leave 3 months later. I can't do that before, as i can't take the risk to stay some weeks without money and the same for my rent. If i was alone maybe, but i have my daughters with me.

And by the way, as i have and agreement with my daughter's father, i have to take care about that she'll have to spend Christmas with her father. So between the 3 months for work and rent, and the obligation that my daughter have to be back in France for Christmas. I really hope to get the NOA2 in june...

Miss Yoko explained it well, it is a requirement in France. Just like the the US, you give a 2 weeks notice, ours is 3 months. And just like her, I will probably tell them I'm leaving when I get NOA2. (though I will check how long it took between NOA2 and the interview for the US/French couples that will be going through this in the next months, just to make sure!)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
I agree with you dbears, negative thoughts will not help anybody. No, the K1 process isn't all joy and happiness. Yes it is probably hard for everybody to be far from their lover. Yes, we would all prefer to be together again without having to wait. But we can't help it. We do have to wait several long months. That's why positive thoughts are better. How can someone go through this process while being angry?

I prefer to think that I am less sad than before the process. Because the past years, we couldn't know when we would be together again, and the time we spent together always had an end, which made everything even sadder. But now, even though the process takes some time, at least next time we'll be together, it will be for years! even decades! a lifetime! So why would anyone be sad or angry?
If there's one thing that makes me sad sometimes, it's the fact that I'm going to leave my parents behind.

Of course one part of me feels a little upset when we see many more VSC approvals everyday. But what can we do? Are we going to cry because some other people are going to be approved before us? Are we going to tell them not to show their happiness? That would be cruel. A lot more cruel than them wishing us good luck.

As for "who is moving as soon as they have the visa in hand / who is going to wait several months more?" everybody's life is different. I'm planning to move maybe two weeks after I have my K1 visa. The only constraints I have are a 3 month notice for my job (to tell them I'm quitting) and the same for the apartment I'm renting. That I will give them at least 2 months before the interview (and if it finally takes longer, my mother will be happy to let me come back home). the people who decide to wait longer (like dbears) have more responsibilities: they have children, or their own company to take care of, or many other things they won't tell us because, well, it's their life! if they decide to wait more, they have good reasons to do so.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
nope, I'm still at work. but that's ok. Basicall now, I have to wait half an hour for the application to do its job, then I can update a few things and then I can go back home.
So while waiting, i'm making lists of what I'll need at the interview at the embassy. At least I'm doing something productive.

And about the "wishful thinking", they did it in January, I'm sure they will do it again soon wink.gif

Not really smiling... the day at work was a hard one. nothing wanted to work the way it was supposed to work. I'm still there, I have to finish a few things before I can go back home (it's 7:50pm in France).
The last four approvals of CSC enlightened my day. they seem so slow that it is upsetting, but at least they did approve some people smile.gif Yeah I'm waiting for big weeks with around 40 approvals, like they did at the end of January! that would be so nice!

So basically, this week you have absolutely nothing to do and next week you might have so many things to do that you won't know where to start.
I guess that's quite the same for a lot of jobs. I work in IT and right now I have many things to do (release of the application tomorrow morning). Most of the time, there's always several things to do. Though I remember last summer was pretty quiet here...

I didn't do anything special this weekend. I went grocery shopping, did the laudry and some cleaning. And I watched several episodes of House MD (I think I'm addicted ^^). I also tried to find information about bank accounts, credit history, prenuptial agreement, and about what to do so the marriage will be recognized in France too. Though as usual, I start looking at too many things at the time and end up doing nothing. tongue.gif
I didn't want to spend to much time outside since I was sick last week.

What movie did you go to see, Blake?

I think we all pretty much understand the logic of the metric system - its all based on units of 10 - but 10 what? The length of a centimeter is mysterious, although theoretically there are 100 of these little buggers in a meter, which is slightly less than one of our yards, which is equal to three feet. Hmmmmm....sounds confusing, you're right. So let me start again....There are always 12 inches in a foot. Why? who knows, ask the English who gave us this system (that's one to you Rachel) There's not much bigger than a gallon here, gallons are made of just 4 quarts which is about the same as a liter. Now, not to confuse anything, but if you go to Canada you don't get what we call gallons you get what are called "imperial gallons" which are a little different.

Still, a pint of beer is still a pint, the world around. Kilos are how we measure the size of the drug arrests, and the mile is something like 5,248 feet. Which is really only important to know in Denver, Colorado aka the "Mile High City." Unless your a doctor, scientist, or engineer no one you talk to about metric measures will really know what you're talking about. Welcome. Thank god our SO's love us....

by the way, Rachel, thank your for the willow lanterns.

And that's the exact opposite for me! 10 centimeters of snow, that's ok. 4 inches? no idea...
What seems the most annoying is not the conversion between metric and non-metric, it's the fact that the non-metric seems so complicated! it's so easy to have 10 millimeters in 1 centimeters, and 10 centimeters in 1 decimeter, etc. how do you remember how many inches there are in a foot, and how many gallons there are in... whatever is bigger than a gallon?

home-made food and decorations (I've learned how to make lanterns from willow and tissue paper recently, I'm really tempted to make some). I think I shall have to look at ebay.

I wish I could do that! Could you explain to me how to make them?

As for conversion, we use the metric system for everything here.
At least in UK, it's already messed up, so going from a messed up system to another one shouldn't be too difficult laughing.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Rachel, this is not terrible of you. Yes the process is very expensive and having to spend money for other things (such as visit friends and family) sometimes sounds unaffordable, and people don't get it.

As for the dress and the wedding, I don't want to spend a lot (I say "I" instead of "we" because I have more money than my fiance, so I know i'll be the one paying, even though that won't make much difference once we're married). The process is expensive enough, and like you I won't have an income for several months once in the US. We'll probably do only a small ceremony. Like exchange our vows in front of people we know and then have an appetizer, or cakes, something simple. There won't be a big dinner, decoration will probably be very light, etc. And the fact that we can't choose a date yet doesn't make it easy, so let's keep it simple.
For the dress, you can look online. I found a beautiful dress on ebay, it was cheap. I sent them my measurements and now I'm waiting. Of course, as long as I don't get it, I'm still afraid it's not going to fit, but I know someone who will fix it for me if there's a problem. It's not as wonderful as going to stores but that is still an option.

I know about doing the math stuff laughing.gif When I first entered in my timeline info and I saw Igor's listing I was number 260 on the waiting for approval listing. It's been interesting watching the number go up and down as new people join. Now I'm at 200, but that doesn't mean I won't be at 210 tomorrow. Even though I realize that it doesn't make a bit of difference as to what my ultimate approval time is, I don't like it when my ranking goes down.

With all the waiting involved I've been thinking about ways not to let either myself or Olha to get depressed about all this. I want to redocorate the house - paint, drapes, new carpeting, and all that. Initially I was thinking that it would be good to do all these things before she arrived. I'm starting to think, however, that perhaps that is not such a good idea. I think having her spend time thinking about what she'd like to do, planning how she'd like things to look, and then actually working side by side with me to get it done, will not only give us both something to distract us for the next 6 months, but also give her that sense of immediate contribution to our new "family" when she is here. Once the fun of planning the decorating wears off, my next step is to encourage her to start shopping for her wedding dress, that should extend the good mood for at least another 45 days. laughing.gif

Anybody have any other ideas on how to help our SO's get through this as well?

The decoration is a good idea because that would take plenty of time, but you're right, it is better to do it when Olga gets there. And I can't do any decoration since I'm the foreign one: no need to decorate if I leave my apartment in 6 months!

I've spent time wondering what we'll do for our wedding, I even chose my wedding dress, then I stopped and decided to look for information on the documents I'll need at the embassy. Then, I started thinking of the wedding again (but this time I have a few ideeas!). Next step: gather evidences for the interview. Then, choose accessories for the dress. tongue.gif
I also plan to make a photo album of the people and places I will miss in France. That should keep me busy for a while! But then when I finish it, I'll be happy to have it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Good thread, Blake.
I think the most frustrating in that process is the speed difference between VSC and CSC. oh and the fact that they don't work on the petitions in the order they arrived.
Igor did a good job in separating CSC approvals and VSC approvals on his list. That way we see their approvals only if we decide to check.
That list is great, but sometimes (when I check it 10 times a day), I wonder if it wouldn't be better not to have anything like this. This way we would focus on other things. That way, time would seem to go faster. At the same time, what is the worst: not being able to know how fast/slow it goes or being able to see that they are not moving really fast? Finally I'm glad that list exists.

Even though, as I said before, the process is quite frustrating, since we still have several months to wait, it is very endurable. It makes me happy to see approvals from CSC, even though they are people who filed 2 or 3 months before us.
Last night I did the math. there has been 165 approvals since we filed (almost 2 months ago) and we are 170 on Igor's list. January approvals might start in 2 months. Of course, that is only an hypothesis and we are probably going to wait longer than that. I know I'll start being very upset about this whole process around May.

I am glad that you were finally approved.

To write that your experience was outrageous is to undervalue your experience. No one should have to go through this. Certainly no one else.

Please forgive me for asking, but I have two questions for you:
1. Did you do anything to annoy, upset, or otherwise irritate the CSC? Not that this would be an excuse, but maybe the rest of us could benefit by not repeating a mistake you might have made.
2. Did you do anything to cajole, threaten or bride the CSC to finally approve your petition. No blame to you if you did, but maybe the rest of us could benefit from a method of encouraging the processes along.
