UPDATE - For anyone ever renewing a driver license in Missouri FYI!

1) Unlike other USA states, Missouri will not renew your driver license past your GC expiration date, so unlike other states of other posters mentioned here getting 5 or 6 year driver license renewed out past the GC expiration date, does not happen in Missouri. Will only renew your driver license up to the date of GC expiration. crying.gif

2) Was informed that even if you apply for renewal of your Missouri drivers license while waiting for your new 10 year GC to be approved or for interview or to come in mail the only way the drivers license in Missouri would be renewed would be if a permanent resident received a letter from USCIS showing or expressing your 10 year GC approval. Also mentioned something about some sort of email internet system now from USCIS but was not exactly clear with that.

Curious anyone here with experience in this have to use this magical letter from USCIS they would have received while waiting for their 10 year GC to be processed so they could show this letter to driver license office to renew their driver license while waiting on the 10 year GC to come in the mail or for their interview? whistling.gif

We shall see what happens this week, got postcard renewal notice several weeks ago for this coming Jan 09, called Dept of Revenue for driver licenses in MO and was told by customer service rep that the postcard numbers indicate renewal for 6 year license. This will interesting to see if this happens like we were told in the phone by HQ customer service. Will post more when I get through that this week. wacko.gif

i don't think that was a mistake.. cause same here. i renewed my driver license 2 years ago wth my conditional card which expired March 2008.They gave me DL good till 2011..


Interesting, wonder if here in Missouri they actually noticed the GC expiration or if when applying and paying for the driver license a person can opt for 2 or 3 year period and just pay the extra fee, may have only given a 1 yr driver license due to not opting for the 2 or 3 year choice. Guess time will tell here in about month and find out, thus that is why I was wondering if anyone else had went through this yet and how it worked for them. Thanks.

cool.gif or first hand knowledge of how it works if renewing Missouri driver license(which expires in January 2009 after 1 year and has to be renewed again) 9 months before 2 yr GC expires?

Hopefully someone with this experience in Missouri is able to relate to this with some helpful advice or information. Any pitfalls or tips or experience from this would be much appreciated.

I am not sure how folks get an NOA1 in 1-3 days also, I just noticed on the August list that they were, great for them, just wondered how?

So you mean the actual case receipt number on the check image will not work on USCIS website?

Did not realize you had to wait until biometrics notice now with it's receipt number to check it online.

Curious, how are you able to get a NOA1 within one day of your application being mailed off? The check has cleared for me, but in typical USCIS fashion they wrote right in the center of the border of the check and you cannot even see or read several of the numbers or characters of the case number in order to check status online. Oh well guess will have to wait on the letter in mail, at least I know they have it and it is in the system since last week, but still do not have NOA1 letter or any email from USCIS confirming this so just curious how I see some people getting email notice or NOA1 in like one day after filing? What is the trick or secret?

I751 directions only ask for photocopy of your past 2 years state and local tax return, which would be the 1040s signed by you and spouse, not tax transcripts(those were recommended or required during the 2 yr GC application when proving a spouse was sponsoring the PR financially on the affadavit of support). unsure.gif

Houston we have a problem! That friend is out of status and will be terminated and expelled to leave the USA, they better call USCIS service center or go to their local office and have a darn good reason as to why they did not file on time, for it will be up to them to decide whether to proceed with removal of PR or if they might have to go before a judge and plead their case, and see if judge will let them stay, either way they got some work and problems now. Good luck.

Code1 -> Regular Finger print

Code2 -> Biometrics (Digital Photo+Index Finger Print)

Code3 -> Both regular Finger Print and Biometrics (code1+code2)


The different abbreviations for the service centers, and after combining the service centers recently to form one.
WSC is western service center

EAC/ESC = Vermont Service Center (VSC)
LIN/NSC = Nebraska Service Center (NSC)
RC/SSC = Texas Service Center (TSC)
WAC/WSC = California Service Center (CSC)
MSC = Missouri Service Center (MSC)

Interesting thing I noticed this morning when getting the ASC Letter in mail. It was mailed from St Albans, VT which is the VSC but our service center is CSC and that is where application was mailed to and is at currently.

Called USCIS, was told that the I751 case is still at CSC but to help speed things up for the Biometrics appointment sooner, the letter was mailed out of VSC. Was unable to get answer if this is normal, or if VSC is taking over work for CSC or how VSC would be scheduling a biometric appointment for region or area that files with CSC. USCIS makes no logical sense at all and even people working for them do not know or cannot really explain or answer what is going on.


Anyway was wondering if anyone else has had something like this happen to them while filing for 10 yr GC.

Per USCIS instructions below in red. Many on VJ say that USCIS prefer to have notarized original affidavits from at least two people sent, but as you can see the instructions do not state that. So as Otto or Karin says go ahead and try it anyway without notarizing and get at least two or more to send in. good.gif

5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship. (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.) The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit: his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge. Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

Essentially that is all - they can follow the format in the Example (you could even do it for them if you like and just have them sign it) - so it's kind of consistent - there is a place to sign and notarize (in the example) but notarizing isn't required. Not to upset you more, but sounds like USCIS has lost or misplaced your file or application and supporting documents that you already sent to them and so to cover their a$$ they send you a RFE and tell you that you did not send them enough evidence and basically they are asking for everything you already sent in the first time, I have noticed this has happened from time to time with USCIS. And 100% of the time when you just send back in copies of everything that you already sent in again, it gets soon approved. Hopefully you made copies of everything you mailed in the first time, just mail it back to them with the RFE and to the address they request and if you happen to notice anything else they request that you can send again or did not get a chance to submit last time then send it in also, I am sure you will get approved soon after that. Sorry for the bad news. As a last resort you might go to your US House of Rep local office near you or your US Senator office and ask their staff for help and that you want to file a congressional inquiry into this matter with USCIS and everytime the politician office helps from what I have seen, cause within 48 hours of filing that inquiry USCIS has to respond or reply to that politicians office as to why or what is going on or what is the hold up specifically. AND normally the USCIS workers or bosses get a congressional in their office and that case gets #1 priority and pushed to the front immediately to be worked and problem resolved. Most Congressman office will not do this until it has been past 3 months after you file before they inquiry on your behalf though. Good luck. unsure.gif

They ask for copies of our lease(s) but we provided them already!

They want affidavits written by thirds parties, but we already gave them three! All three were very clearly written and properly done.

Since late winter this year things for us have been very bad. I lost my job and we had to move from our lovely apartment to a craphole in the wall we sublet, so we have no actual lease or utilities in our own name. No renters insurance either. This all happened just prior to filing, so at the time was not an issue.

But what to do now? Honestly, there is nothing else whatsoever we can provide to them. We have already provided every piece of evidence we have. #######?!

We had zero trouble with the interview process in Saigon and you all know how crazy they are. My wife spent a lot of time in Europe and Japan, so she was well traveled and an educated girl. Since coming here she has done very well and has a pretty darned good job in NYC, which she loves. But since late winter we have been subletting and have nothing in our name. No lease, no utilities at all. Yes, we have our bank account and a savings account and our health insurance.

What should we do? Our marriage is not bull----. I can't begin to describe how angry I am at this moment.

Thanks Lucky Star.

Just got back from ST LOUIS USCIS office(ASC office and all other offices are in same building location @ 1222 Spruce Street). Was able to go through front door entrance with NO ONE asking to see a infopass letter or biometric appointment letter or what we were doing there. All that happened was that we walked through security checkpoint immediately at door entrance to the left hand side, got checked or scanned or wanded, then got given white visitor sticker pass to put on our shirts, then headed straight to ASC room 1.208 which is 30-40 feet to your right once you go through Security checkpoint at front door. Waltzed right in ASC door, there was no one in there waiting, went to counter asked for early biometric from ladies at counter and was told YES, no problem and then clipboard with form to fill out and then done with picture and prints next, all told, took about 5-7 minutes or less. Done on 9/21/2009 @ 8:10 am.

Yes I did it. No problem, just headed right into the room of biometrics(I think it was rm # 222), cannot remember number of room but it was on the first floor and as soon as you go through front door security checkpoint, hang a immediate right and it is across the lobby, first room on right. Walked in to ladies at desk counter and showed them my biometric letter, asked if I could do this early since I was not going to be able to make it in on the date of my biometric letter due to work and they said sure no problem, and in like 3 minutes or so they did the biometric and I was in and out of there. Now this was almost a year ago in early Sept 2009, they were allowing this, currently I do not know if they still do, so if you have to drive very far to get there you might want to call first and check to see if still allowed to do this or ask someone else with more recent experience. :star:

Just got back from doing EARLY WALK UP at ST LOUIS USCIS offices on Sept 21, 2009 at 8:10 am.

At front door entrance, had to go to the left line through security checkpoint, empty pockets, then go through metal detector and wand, then another officer puts white Visitor pass sticker on your shirt, and then free to go wherever you want in building, NO ONE asked to see biometric letter or infopass letter for appointment and no one wanted to know why we were there.

After Security checkpoint, turned immediately to our right and headed over 30-40 feet to ASC office, opened door and waltzed right up to counter desk, there were no people waiting in there at all, it was empty. Went to counter asked for help, explained we wanted early biometric done and was told no problem, then 5-7 minutes later, after filling out clipboard form and taking pics and fingerprints, out of there.

I could not agree with you more! You are right on. We had to wait past Sept and Oct and then November while others in our same service center filed well after us in August, Sept and October, yet they were all getting approved before we were. AND no, once again no RFE, just plain and simple, USCIS does not work worth a damn and they are inconsistent and inept, why does it take them 3-4 months to work a application or a file when they have every tool and every source of information at their fingertips within month or less and background checks do not take that long, everything is freaking computerized now! Sir Lancelot, we both have the bad luck of having our file being put some back desk or other pile of stuff or some slow worker or new trainee or whatever, cause there is no reason other people filing after us should be getting approved before us AND especially if there is no RFE involved, it is totally #######! It's not a matter of "nervously" waiting but annoyance at the random and unfair nature of how USCIS processes these applications. There is a concept called "due process" in the US legal/political system and something is very wrong with the due process at USCIS when some applications are being processed months ahead of others in the same service center. Let's take some specific examples:

People have every right to be annoyed when they are ostensibly being treated unfairly. Keep your cavalier, snide disregard for others' concerns to yourself. You have no right to belittle other people's concerns.

I hear you, it is just so strange why or how people that file after you did can get approved in less than a 2 month time period of filing, yet you are still waiting and no activity, I hear what you mean by feeling just stuck there, makes me wonder if you got a slow case worker or inept one or if they misplaced file or it got put on bottom of a pile or off to the side.
Anyway, hang in there, I can imagine how frustrated you feel. Good luck.

You don't need to discuss anything with me whether I have timeline or not: it has nothing to do with whether I have timeline: you just seem to have weird concept of being stuck in FBI check: you were approved the day you had interview, you weren't stuck. Don't get all twitchy and defensive.


It seems that you don't know the procedure. The FBI check is starting after biometric is taken and most of the times you wont have an interview before the check is done. In my case it took 3 month which is a long time for a check. Thats where people feel stuck because nothing happens and no touch in the case.

My worst time with FBI check was my K1 visa where the FBI check took 6 month.

This forum its ment for people to chit chat about their feelings during the waiting time. A newbie in this forum like you should be more careful with your comments and before we can see if you even have any experience.

Makes no sense why or how it would take this long for you when so many others that file after you are getting approved before you, and if something is wrong, then why not send you a RFE within 30 days of applying so you can clear up whatever it is USCIS needs to approve you case. Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll I would like to believe what you say from your interview officer and if so then we would already be approved and not still waiting, but I do not believe what that officer told you that interviewed you, because at ACS getting my fingerprints and picture taken again I was told that this has to be done again(picture and fingerprints) because the FBI/NSA security background(name check) check will not be performed if fingerprints and picture is more than 12 or 18 months old per FBI regulations, thus the reason given for having to do another biometric all over again two years later. I mean think about it, why even have us come in for biometric, we would just submit application, documents and check for fee and that would be it no biometric needed. Sounds like this government agency does not know left from the right since you got totally different answer than I did.

Congrats on fast approval, I noticed that so many filers on VJ from Asian countries in August that are in CSC region are getting very fast approval in CSC, probably has to do with FBI background biometric check system working faster with Asian countries now, since I notice several have filed much later than others in August and already gotten approval. unsure.gif

Good for you, good.gif but total BULL$hit for the rest of us filing in CSC region, unreal there are several of us that filed a lot earlier than others and still no approval even with doing biometrics at date earlier than you, this sucks, once again Dept of Dysfunction and Immigration, and people want the USA federal government to handle our health insurance, I do not think so, after dealing with USCIS, we have never experienced such a dysfunctional inept bunch of jackoffs, no wonder there are so many illegals aliens and they refuse to file properly for visa or immigration, only those of us that do it the right way only get punished and given total run around. Noticed that all the 10 yr GC approvals coming through CSC for month of August are all filers from the Philippines and one Australian. Would appear that the FBI/Interpol background check must move at a very fast pace through those two countries compared to all the others, thus resulting in such fast approvals. good.gif

Depends on the code number on your appointment letter, but normally you have to take another picture and do all 10 fingerprints again. good.gif

For others who may be interested in the answer to your question - no, the American spouse is welcome to wait in the waiting room at the USCIS office but they are not allowed to be in the interview with you. When my name was called for my interview I made a point of asking my interviewer if my husband (and I indicated where he was sitting in the waiting room) could come with us and she said, 'No'. I have heard of one - only one - case where the husband did accompany his wife into the interview but I don't remember the circumstances involved.

Thank you for kind words, and help. Reason I ask if spouse was allowed in on the interview is that my husband was allowed to come in with me on my interview. I thought I was only one allowed in to the interview, but for whatever the reason, whatever my husband did or said to the interview officer she must have liked it or him because she told us "Thank you for being early and both of you come follow me to my office now" So we did follow her to the interview office and then she made us both stand and take oath with right hand to tell the whole truth and nothing but truth, and immediately she started going through my application and asking questions and actually we noticed she did not even go through all questions as we expected on the application. She even let my husband stay in room when she gave me the English test and the history or civics questions.

All she said to my husband was "Please no helping your wife you must be quiet" It was all over with in 5-10 minutes no longer, that fast then she handed over white form sheet of paper and said congratulations you are approved and will be getting letter in mail telling you when your oath ceremony will be since we do not allow same day or only have the oath ceremony once a week on Friday afternoon at federal courthouse downtown. And that was it, we got up and left with the paper of recommendation for approval. We arrived 30 minutes early and were out of office out in hall down elevator and outside building and it was 10 til the hour we were supposed to interview, it took at least 5-10 minutes to go through security a door and then walk to elevator and back down again so I estimate it only took 5-10 minutes on interview!

My husband was shocked, he also said he was worried when she asked both of us to follow her on interview and thought it was red flag, but I had no idea I just thought it was normal. Only after we got outside did he tell me that was not the way it was to happen but who cares it is over now! Thus I was wondering if any others had such a thing happen to them or if this was new procedure that USCIS just started now on interview process. Oh, and the interview officer asked us for proof of marriage and if we had pictures together with us, which we did in my purse so, otherwise we would not have brought the pictures because it did not say to do that in instructions when filing N400, anyway thought others might want to be able to know this in case it is new way USCIS is doing things so they are ready and not surprised.
