Well I was very sick last night, not sure why, but it's still there. sad.gif I also found out this morning that Russell has his phone (cell from the US that let us keep in touch all day/night) was stolen by some low life thief. So just one more thing gone wrong. I'd hope for some good news today but i'm tired of getting my hopes up.

Oi you - that's quite enough of your moping! You are the VJ mother hen - you're not allowed to mope. We do the moping, you do the cheering up - got it!!??? laughing.gif

It went great so far. I cant complain but i feel with thoose people who check USCIS every day. I did it every day too.

And you know what? A lot of the time, it's completely pointless. The first I knew of my NOA2 was when 'er indoors called me on Saturday to say it was in her mailbox. No touches, no emails, no nothing. Even now my online USCIS account says pending, last (and only) touch 22nd February!

Damian ~ If you're going to do a drive thru wedding you have to do it RIGHT. Go to Burger King & get her a crown. No Mickey D's, No Taco Bell, none of that. Only the King of Burgers.

Congrats to all new approvals! Still no news here... Checked the USCIS website yesterday, and we hadn't even been touched since June 17. I think Michael will try to get an answer from them when he goes back, though I don't have a lot of faith in his ability to get it. I just wonder when he can start involving his representative... If it is right after the end of the six months, or later?

One thing I can tell you, though (and I hope not to offend anyone), is that I've lost any wish to move to the US. The idea that they took a sizable amount of my money without even inquiring if it had been honestly earned (and it had, every single cent of it), but that I'm not even allowed to live in my own home really hurts me beyond belief. I just wonder what good has done to me having been a decent, honest, hardworking human being for all my life...

Eh? What's all that about, HS?

I'm sorry Raff I wish I could explain why some take longer. Peach's sent date (the date they supposedly go by) was 3/30 and she was just approved. By looking at those left I have to wonder if there is just this short stack of filers from your timeframe. Your initial concern of having a bit longer due to security checks because of your job could be it as well. It can be anything holding it up a little longer than some. sad.gif The good news is that usually those dont get held up for too long. I'm sure it's coming... but in the meantime don't feel badly about being down or having to hold back as we celebrate. We know how you feel and understand your concerns!

Thank you for your understanding. I am very happy for other people, and I don't want to seem as if I'm raining on their parade, but I really feel so terribly down, and at this point I think it's not going to happen. One thing I know is that I can't possibly bear another six months or longer like that, and I don't know what I'm going to do if this goes on much longer. Michael would move here in a heartbeat, but he knows that the current situation in Italy is rather bad (won't go into details, but suffice it to say that he's got to pay about $1,000 a month in child support, and it would be next to impossible for him to find a job here, unless he wanted to risk his life every minute of the day), and that his moving here would put a huge burden on me. My work situation is not good either, especially from a psychological point of view. At my age I wouldn't be able to find another job here, and that would probably make things hard in another European country. This is why we decided to go the K1 route... We were even able to buy an apartment in the US a couple of months ago, but I don't even know if I will ever be allowed to live here (my money was OK to take though).

Sorry for venting and spoiling everyone's party, but I am feeling so depressed... We are good people, and I don't think we deserve this.

Anyone who likes Deep Purple definately comes under the, "Good People" banner, kidda. Hang in there!

Morning April...

Long live rock n roll.... Cept i'm a Zeppelin fan too. laughing.gif My ex plays a few instruments and has played in a band as long as i've known him (20+ years) ..and I just love to sing anywhere and everwhere... music has always been a huge part of my life too. Now my kids. Our cousin is Mistress Carrie from WAAF in Boston. Lots of rock stations here too... everything but country (sorry) and ganster rap is good by me. wink.gif

Damian, nothing better than a long stretch of road, wind blowing in your face and a good tune in your ear! Ok..well there's a few things that come close. laughing.gif

Dale, are you tracking your petition with DHL? Very excited for you.

Cmon vsc...we're still waiiiittttinnnggggggg

I hear ya about singing anywhere and everywhere; I do that all the time - when I'm loaded! You ever use Limewire or something similar? If you have, you'll know how incredibly addictive it is, and how before you know what's going on, it's 7am, and you've drunk a case-and-a-half of beer, and 2 packs of cigarrettes!!

Anyway, point being, I was well into a Limewire session (about 3am I'd say) and Skynyrd's "What's your Name" was playing at the time. I had my earphones on at the time (you can guess what's coming now, right!!??) and you just know that whilst you THINK you sound just like the singer on the song, in reality you sound like a sack of fighting tom cats on moonshine! Anyway, suffice to say that 'er indoors emerged from her slumber with a face like thunder, and shot me the kind of look that would kill a man stone dead - I piped down after that!

Ah, beer and rock music - truly a winning combination. kicking.gif

I know there is nothing I can do, unfortunately.... I would like to say a lot of things about this process, but I will hold my tongue in order not to hurt anyone's sensibilities - and also to avoid certain members from telling me, why don't you stay where you are?, as I was told last week tongue.gif .

Damian, thank you for mentioning my screen name! I am a HUGE Deep Purple fan, and in general I am very much into all Seventies' rock music. This is how Michael and I met... I am just a passive music lover, while he's a very good bassist, and can play some other instruments as well. Hopefully I'll be able to go to a lot of gigs when I move to the US!

Amber and I also met through rock 'n' roll - an AC/DC music forum, to be precise! I like a lot of '70's rock too (except Led Zeppelin - sorry, I just don't get them) especially Deep Purple. When I knew we were going to Branson for the weekend I deliberately went into WalMart just to buy the greatest hits CD for the journey!!!!! When "Highway Star" came on, I depressed the accelerator, turned the volume up to 10, and just enjoyed being alive!

You will LOVE the U.S. if you're a rock music lover - nobody does rock 'n' roll bars/gigs etc like our American friends. And unlike the U.K., there's a classic rock station on the dial wherever you may be. If you're ever in the St Louis area, I highly recommend KSHE95, or US97 if in the Springfield/Branson area.

Long live rock 'n' roll!

Still nothing.. And getting close to the four-month mark. I wonder whether it would be any use if Michael called VSC and asked why people who filed later than us are being approved... What do you think?

HighwayStar

Firstly, congratulations on your choice of user name: I had that blaring out at ear-busting decibels on I-44 a couple of weeks ago on the way to Branson. You may or may not know that large swathes of I-44 (i.e. most of the Eastbound stretch between Springfield and St Louis) used to be historic Route 66, and it don't get no better than Gillan, Blackmore & co behind the wheel of a car on arguably the most famous stretch of road there's ever been.

Anyway, I digress.

We filed in february and are still waiting - so I hear ya about people getting approved before you do. Annoying, but nowt you can do I'm afraid.

Then she checked out chest and tummy area, and told me to cough, for

Aaah, the £243 flight, once *I* rang, and despite my dad having rung earlier to double-check, was apparently due to a tax error.

BUT I now have a direct flight booked, from Heathrow to San Francisco, with BA, for £355, which is still an excellent deal, and I think I'd prefer a direct flight anyway!

Yep, £355 direct with BA is pretty damn good. Unfortunately, you can't fly direct to St Louis (AA used to do it, but discontinued the service) so I have to change whatever.

It's not Michigan nobody wants to come to, Sunny, it's DTW - what a suckass airport that is!! Could the terminals be any further apart!!?? On another note (regarding the cost of flights) why is it that UK-to-US round trip is so much cheaper than US-to-UK round trip? I mean it's exactly the same journey, but if it begins in the UK it's much, much cheaper than if the journey originates stateside.

Example:

I went to Northwest's website (nwa.com) and searched for a London - St Louis round trip in March. With the flight originating in London, the cost was US$560 - that's less than £300, which is a bargain. I then entered exactly the same trip, on exactly the same dates, only this time with the flight originating in St Louis. The price? $1166!!! Twice as much!!!!!! WHY!!!!!!!????? wacko.gif

Absolutely retarded.

How right you are, Sunny. I've been pulled over twice, both for doing 70+ in a 55. Now you gotta remember that I live out in the boonies, so the local coppers aren't used to foreigners. Anyhoo, the first time I got pulled over, the guy was just like Buford T Justice out of Smokey & The Bandit laughing.gif . After I told him that I wasn't, in fact, a resident and as such didn't have an Illinois DL, he went over to his patrol car and had a natter with his colleague over the radio. When he came back, he told me that his colleague had told him that he needed to get my passport number, home address, and "all that other ####" and so it, "just wasn't worth it." He then proceeded to give me a "stern warning" and let me on my way.

The second time, me and 'er indoors were on our way back from Busch Stadium after a Cardinals game. This time the guy was younger and more official, but as soon as I started talking his face lit up (I get that a lot in the boonies!!! laughing.gif ). He seemed really impressed when I told him that I was on my way back from a ball game, and when I also mentioned the fact that it was my birthday (which it actually was) he sent me on my merry way with a wave and a smile! laughing.gif

Searching for cheap flights:

Gatwick > Houston > San Jose for £360 on the 18th November! There's a four hour layover at Houston (plenty of time to go through customs) and I'd be flying with Continental Airlines.

...anyone see a catch? It sounds pretty much ideal, but I don't believe I've ever flown with Continental.

I have, the last time I was out there in July in fact, and have had no issues at all. It's United you want to avoid (presuming you expect to find your luggage waiting for you at your final destination mad.gif )

....that's really great! I'm all about being stubborn like that too. What's with the 'month-long' tho???? NO SMOKING!!!

Well, there's no way in hell that I'll ever stop drinking beer (I enjoy it waaaaaaaaaaaay too much!) but I just want to see if I can do without it for a reasonably long period of time without freaking out. I guess I'm just trying to reassure myself that I'm not an alcoholic, and if I can go a whole month without a drop, then I'll be quite satisfied that I'm not!!!!

Oh, I only ever smoke when I drink, btw.

tsk tsk Damien... drinking again???

Actually, I am 6 days into a self-imposed, month-long detox: not one drop of alcohol or a single cigarrette in nearly a week.

Go me. innocent.gif cool.gif

Will do, but I'm away from home for the next week on a course with work, so you'll probably know that Gareth has his before I know I've got mine!

Oh btw, when you call the NVC, you press '1' then '5' to speak to a person.

Thanks again everyone I am on air for sure! Started making more wedding arrangements right away heheee! We decided we are going to try our best to have a couple 8's in our date haha.....what is even funnier is we also remembered that umm the first time we consummated the relationship was also on the 18th! So yeah 8 is our number haha!

Pam the park and backyard sound gorgeous!!! I would love to do outside but in fall here that is just too iffy haha! Cannot wait to see photos!!!

Ok now how do I know when it gets to NVC or leaves NVC and all that business I see people have posted before their loved one gets packet 3?

That's easy. You simply call the NVC (603-334-0700), give them the case number that you've had for sooooooooo long from USCIS, and they'll tell you when they recieved it, and when they sent it to London.

In my case, they only had it for 2 days before it was headed over the Atlantic!
