Ah, that's good to know. I haven't read a thing about Removal of Conditions yet as we're a year away. That thought just ran through my head about an Affidavit of Support and I know Damian isn't working right now while he's in school. Thanks.

Oh boy - is that ever about to change!!! wacko.gif

RKL and Andrew&Bethany got into double figures; everybody else sucked elephant balls. That pretty much sums up this week's efforts. A new record achieved as well with not one but two zeros scored, that weren't due to non-predicting.

Another fairly evenly spread week, with another top score for yours truly - nearly 30pts ahead of my nearest challenger now. B-) . It's still early days, but Pookster/Fozzie, I'd be giving serious consideration to some joker action if I were you, before you fall too far behind.

Speaking of falling behind, it looks like we've lost Mags & Maven, so we're down to 10 now.

A fairly even spread this week, with most of us the 11-16pts range. A couple of duff scores to boot, and a second consecutive PC penalty for Maven (as well as one for Mags). Remember, bud, three-in-a-row and I assume you're not arsed with it. ;)

Significantly, the low scorers were the higher placed players - with one exception  - meaning I extend my lead at the top to a healthy 17pts. But after what happened last year, there's no chicken counting going on yet!!

As usual, folks, please check your scores.

Of course you can, mate. As long as they're in before the first match kicks off, it's all good. These international breaks just throw me is all.

So i was away over the weekend and didnt get around to posting predictions. However as only one game was played over the weekend and all the rest are this coming weekend I will throw my predos in. I of course understand if they are not accepted.

You're right, Fozzie, they are (apart from the Saints game, which was played on saturday, and we amusingly lost at home so it makes no difference to the scoring). As I mentioned previously, you'll get used to these f**k ups.

Another week of fairly ####### scoring, yours truly posting this week's best effort with 14. Another poor week for Maven and Pooky, who are only seperated from the bottom spots by two players who I think have decided not to participate in our little compo this year after all, given that this is the second consecutive week they haven't predicted. Well that's week one done and dusted for this year's compo, and it would be fair to say that it's been a fairly inauspicious start for most, with only three of our merry throng reaching double figures. OK, well here's this year's lineup, and relevant affiliations:

Damian (Southampton)
RKL (Arsenal)
Mags (?)
TheMatrix (?)
Elmcitymaven (Arsenal)
NotworkSte (Man Utd)
Goonergirl (Arsenal)
Pooky (Portsmouth)
Visacat (?)
Nicky (Newcastle)
Fozzie (Liverpool)
Rob&Mel (Liverpool)
Doris (Spurs)
Andrew&Bethany (Wolves)

So far, that's only 8 teams so I'm going to add the teams we chucked in for good measure last season, Chelsea and Man City, along with Everton & Villa, whose games we've done for the last two years.

So, with that in mind, here are the first round of fixtures:

Spurs v Citeh
Villa v Hammers
Blackburn v Everton
Wolves v Stoke
Chelsea v Baggies
Liverpool v Arsenal
Man Utd v Toon
MK Dons v Saints
Pompey v Reading

Remember, all predictions in by close of play Friday, or it's a PC penalty.

OK, here is a list of the people signed up to play so far, with the teams they support in parentheses (question marks against those who have not yet declared their affiliation):

Damian (Southampton)
RKL (Arsenal)
Mags (?)
TheMatrix (?)
Elmcitymaven (Arsenal)
NotworkSte (?)
Goonergirl (Arsenal)
Pooky (Portsmouth)
Visacat (?)
Nicky (Newcastle)
Fozzie (Liverpool)
Rob&Mel (Liverpool)

So 12 confirmed with hopefully some of last season's regulars showing up too.

Most of you are aware of the rules, but for those who may not be familiar with them, allow me to enlighten you.

Each week, I will list the group of fixtures that pertains to each player's team of choice. The idea then is, obviously, to predict the outcome of each fixture.

Scoring:

Exact match (i.e. you predict a game will end 3-3 and it ends 3-3) = 5pts
Correct result & goal difference (i.e. you predict a game will finish 2-1, and it ends 1-0, 3-2, 4-3 etc) = 3pts
Any other correct result = 2pts

Each player will start the season with 2 jokers. Those of you familiar with legendary UK gameshow "It's a Knockout" will need no explanation as to the purpose and function of these wildcards, but for the benefit of anyone not fortunate enough to witness the shennanigans of grown men in oversized comdedy suits, partaking in extremely juvenile activities to the throes of an overly-exitable Stuart Hall, basically what it boils down is that should you play a joker, your points tally for that week will be doubled.

I will tally everyone's points at the conclusion of each weekend's fixtures and display them on this thread, along with a cumulative table. All predictions must be in by close of play on Friday. Failure to predict some, but not all, of any weekend's fixtures will simply result in the player concerned receiving credit only for the outcome of the games for which he or she submitted scores. Failure to predict a full set of fixtures will not automatically result in zero points, but the "award" of what will, for this season at least, be known as a "PC penalty" in honour of last season's wooden spoon recipient, Paul from Burnley. That is to say, that the week's lowest score will be awarded to anyone that inadvertently forgets to post their predictions (it happens, and the whole "something is better than nothing" angle of the PC penalty helps to disuade any of its recipients from throwing in the towel). On a similar note, anyone that for whatever reason knows they may not be online during some point in the season, can simply tell me in advance, and apply a "blanket" score for any given set of fixtures. For instance, last season Nicky knew he wasn't going to be here for the last two weeks of the season due to a vacation, so he asked me to make his default prediction for that week 2-0 home wins. It actually won him the competition in the end, jammy #######!

Ok, got it? Marvelous.

I'll be posting the first round of games early next week, so if we have anyone else that's up for it, now's the time.

I can understand why non-London residents may think it's a scary proposition, but it's really easy (unless there's a tube strike on, which there is right now, in which case it becomes an utter nightmare). 4) Don't have to deal with that kinda process in Anchorage

Sounds right to me. The last time I had a few stops on an international flight (Berlin-London-Chicago) we had to check in a second time, but NOT handle luggage on the middle stop - Amsterdam for you. Be sure you confirm whether or not you have to make that extra step when you check in at London.

You are correct, Magpie. And what I think KLM/Northwest meant when they told you you wouldn't have to grab your luggage (I flew the same airline, btw wink.gif ) is that it would be checked thru to the U.S. from your U.K. starting point, hence not having to collect it in Amsterdam. Double check that though. But you absolutely WILL have to pick it up in Minneapolis, and re-check it onto the Anchorage flight. That much I can guarantee.

Magpie,

Unless there's some sort of special rule for Alaska that I'm not aware of, you go through immigration at your initial POE, in your case (like mine) Minneapolis. It's soooooooooooo easy (compared to nightmarish POEs like Chicago) and they have a deidcated line clearly marked for new immigrants. good.gif

Thanks a million Damien biggrin.gif -- I hadn't a clue. I was confused because Anchorage Airport is a POE too, and it said that I had to surrender the envelope to an immigration officer. Minneapolis sounds like a breeze, wooo.

Also, thankums for the congrats, guys. What a journey!

Magpie.

Just a little something else:

When you get off the plane, you head for the line marked "new immigrants" (that'll be the one with the fewest in line wink.gif ) and hand your envelope to the officer at that station. He or she will open it, and ask you a couple of questions (like "when are you getting married" etc) and that'll be that. I was done with him in less than 5 minutes.

You then have to collect your luggage from the baggage reclaim area - IT DOES NOT GO STRAIGHT THROUGH TO ANCHORAGE!! Once you've done that, you clear customs, and re-check your bag with the TSA staff that that will be waiting for you just outside the customs desk. You have now entered the USA and the Anchorage flight becomes a bog standard internal flight that any USC would take, OK?

Enjoy! smile.gif

POE at Ohare only seems bad because of the long lines...as I have also read else where in the forums here (although the reviews have noting significantly bad to say about Ohare). I know a few people who came in through family-based immigration and they had no problems at all except the wait time because of the long lines. I live about 30 min from Ohare and my family and I frequently fly in/out of Ohare internationally and domestically and we never had any issues ever, I don't even remember the last time I had to wait long in line. You will be fine, there is no reason to stress about POE at Ohare no0pb.gif

Correct, MARM. The length of the queues is my only beef with Chicago.
