MasonOHIOn400, could you check your N-400 timeline? The interview date doesn't seem to tally up with the rest of the dates. Thank you! :)

His case is special - he had it expedited due to chronic illness.

So that means the prediction thing doesn't works?
My real Fp was schedule for tomorrow but i did an early bio las monday, july 21 so maybe i could be in line next week??

Moaz, it's not the early bio that seems to determine the "in line one month before your GC anniversary" phenomenon - early bio means nothing. It's whether or not you sent in your initial application during the 90 days prior to your GC anniversary.

Example:

Alix's GC anniversary was a few years ago because she got her 10 year GC in 2006. So clearly, the "prediction" isn't relevant in her case. Conversely, my 10 year GC was issued on 08/18/09, and I'm applying based on the 5 year residency rule. I sent the application off on 06/11/14 - before I'd actually met the 5 year residency deadline, but within the 90 day period prior to it that USCIS allows you to file in. With me so far? I see that you're applying based on the three year marriage rule but the question is still the same: did you apply early (i.e. within the 90 days PRIOR to your three year GC anniversary) in which case the prediction becomes relevant; or AFTER the three year GC anniversary had passed, in which case it won't?

Understand? It's NOTHING to do with early bio.

Damian, Yep. Am a U.S citizen but this application is for my parents who are applying based on 5 year eligibility..

Their case is simply except for the fact that, they have been out of US for about 850 days and initially, we thought we will hire a lawyer but VJ has always been a good source and am very thankful for everyone coming her and sharing their experience and that has helped us apply on our own :)

Ah, gotcha. I probably should have paid more attention to the earlier posts in this thread!!

No one can predict/determine when one will be placed "In-line". It is very individual...  There is no real benefit of this add rather messed up with the rows, but whatever.

Disagree re the in-line prediction - it's happened too many times across too many cases to be a coincidence (including both mine and sal79's cases on this very thread). And what's all the hoo-ha about the extra row anyway?? It looks perfectly well formatted to me!!!

Do you receive a letter (by mail) that you are inline for the interview? or is it a change in your case status on the USCIS site?

The latter.

behold, I think my theory is right my status just changed today to be On July 18, 2014, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling my 5 years anniversary is 08/18 so exactly a month away. means my early bio was useless simply if you are applying with the 90 days rule.

am still waiting for my wife to change

Your theory is bang on, sal79 - I was also put in line today, and my five year anniversary is also 08/18. Ain't that something!!! Someone please update the timeline please!!!

I have walked  in bio on July 11, there not response for anything in the usics website. my bio date should be July 22. do you think the early walkin is not speeding the process. my 5th year GC date is Aug 13. I saw lots of people do early walk in.

Jenny, if it makes you feel any better, my timeline is similar to yours:

I went for an early bio

My appointment date was July 3rd

I'm still not inline for interview

So, don't stress just yet. ;)

If this turns out to be the case, I should be in-line on Friday. I'll let everyone know if that is indeed the case.

Don't have any issue at all with the waiting during this final part of the visa journey. I mean, we're here, with our loved ones (for the most part), we have our jobs, SSNs, driving licenses etc. It's not like being stuck on the wrong side of the Atlantic frustratingly waiting for NOA2 during the K-1 process, right?? The citizenship lark is a stroll in the park compared to that - it takes as long as it takes.

Damian PMaleEngland2014-07-09 19:13:00

So I went to the Kansas City ASC for the early/different office bio. The security guys remembered me from my little flying visit last week and were super friendly. I got to the window inside the ASC and the guy there was also super-nice, even saying "you guys are doing a great job!" Erm.........OK then! If you say so!! Then he asked me for my greencard - DOH! I'd forgotten to bring the damn thing with me. I'd only briefly glanced at the FP appointment form and seen that I needed to bring the letter and a picture I.D. but of course, it does also say that N-400 applicants must also bring their GC. So I left in a rather embarrassing hurry and will return today - WITH the greencard this time!!!!!!!!

OK, so update on this. I went back to Kansas City ASC today (WITH my greencard this time), and once again was welcomed by the friendly security team. Upon entering the facility, a different officer was on duty, so I explained to her that I had an appointment in St Louis, but that I'd been told that it was OK to have it done here. She looked at me in a dismayed fashion, shook her head and said "who told you that?" Somewhat startled, I told her that the security staff had assured me that it was OK, and it was then that I noticed her struggling to keep a straight face - she was yanking my chain, and boy, did I fall for it!! At this juncture I would like to point out that she was training a new officer whilst dealing with me today, and she told her new charge, and I quote, verbatim, "they don't have to go to the office on their appointment letter - they can have it done anywhere." Upon hearing her say this, I explained to her about VJ and the various cases where applicants seeking early bios/different offices had been turned away. She looked somewhat bemused and told me that, and again I quote, "any office should do it." Make a note, folks.

The procedure itself was simple and quick, and I was out of there in ten minutes. Upon leaving the building, one of the security guys walked outside with me and proudly showed me his Harley Davidson motorcycle (I was wearing a Harley t-shirt today) and we stood and chatted for a good five minutes about the joys and perils of biking. When we finished chatting, I bade him farewell with a "be safe, man" to which he responded with, "take care, brother." I swear, the whole experience was like visiting with family and friends rather than an official government duty.

So to surmise, if you need an early bio done (and Kansas City is doable logistically) then come here and have it done. And tell them I sent you!!!

Did you have to provide any kind of explanation of why you went for your FPs early? What did you tell them? Did they care? I haven't gotten my FP letter yet, though it has been sent. I expect that it will be after the date yours was scheduled for.

I'm having mine done not only early, but at an entirely different office. I did take the time to explain why I wanted it that way (i.e. I'm working in the area) but quite frankly, they weren't at all bothered and just told me to rock up in the afternoon "when it's dead." So basically, no, why you want it done early has no bearing on if they'll do it for you on a walk-in basis - it's entirely at that office's discretion. Fwiw, when I casually mentioned to the guy at KC that I'd heard some offices will do walk-in and some won't, he said the ones that won't, won't because they're the busier offices - so hopefully yours is a quiet one!

Well, folks, the FP appointment letter arrived today. And, like Alix and Copamom, it's scheduled for 07/03 - the Phoenix crew are rockin' it!

Adding myself to the list. I'm finding it really odd though that there was so little paperwork to send. Got used to K1 and AOS, and this time, as I waited several years, I'm filing under the 5 year rule and only had to send Green Card, photos and the Money Order. Is that really it?

That's really it. It's refreshing after the piles of paperwork for the other stages isn't it. ;-)

Damian PMaleEngland2014-06-26 19:06:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 JUNE 2014 Filers

OK, so here's what happened when I went to the Kansas City ASC today:

I went straight after work and it was really easy to find (just by the airport). I walked in and was, as expected, approached by a security guy. I explained that I didn't yet have my appointment letter but that when I did, not only would it be for a different time, but for  an entirely different ASC. Long story short - he was totally cool with it. Told me the best time to come in would be afternoon because "it's dead then." That easy.

So, all I need now is my appointment letter!!!!!

Damian PMaleEngland2014-06-25 18:07:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 JUNE 2014 Filers

I'm wondering if I can actually go to a different ASC than the one on my appointment letter? St Louis is my local office, but I'll actually be working nearer to Kansas City for the next few weeks. Any ideas anyone?

Still no email and the bank confirmed today that my money order hasn't been cashed yet. They've had it for nine days now. Irritating, but I've been around long enough and through enough USCIS bullsh!t (as we all have) to not be worrying too much just yet. However, if Dioxide45's check is cashed/email sent before mine (they sent theirs to the same lockbox as me a day after I did) I will be distinctly unimpressed!!

Great initiative, DamianP!

I'm alix from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My USC husband and I met in Brazil and got married in July 2005. I came here on a CR-1 visa in December 2006, with tons of bumps along the way because we decided to do the whole process ourselves and ended up making a few mistakes. In 2007 my husband accepted a job abroad and I kept going back and forth for almost 3 years. As a stay-at-home wife and then mom (we had two beautiful little boys during that time) I really didn't have a choice. I did my ROC in 2008 while abroad and had to deal with some more minor issues but got my 10-year GC without an interview. We officially moved back in July 2010. So here I am, trying to get my citizenship after being a LPR for 7+ years, applying based on the 3-year marriage rule.

Well it's nice to meet you, Ms Alix. And hey, don't you wish you were back in Rio right about now? I do!!!!! But anyway no soccer talk on this thread! The very best of luck to you, indeed to us both, on this, the end game of the visa journey.

So, my fellow June filers, in amongst the progress reports I'm curious to know a little more about you. Allow me to introduce myself:

I'm Damian P from Southampton in England. I originally came over to the U.S. on a K-1 fiancé visa in March, 2009. The entire process (I-129, AOS, ROC) was plain sailing and RFE free. Sadly, my USC wife passed away suddenly only 8 months after we'd got married and as you can imagine, things got a little hectic for a while, but I opted to remain in the states and make it my home. Now, more than five years on, I'm re-married to.............wait for it...............an English gal! I know, right? All the women in America and I fall for a lass from my own country! And so after naturalization, the circle will be complete - I'll be filing as a USC petitioner for my foreign spouse. You couldn't make it up!

So what's your story, guys?

Your local field office is simply the USCIS office nearest to your home, the place where you'll have your interview - that's all.

Here's a link to the Florida field offices - nearest one to your town is the one you want.

US Citizenship General DiscussionInfopass Appointment Tomorrow

OK, so here's where I'm at:

Oath been in scheduling queue for over a month now at a relatively low-volume office (St Louis). Can't for the life of me understand why I haven't been scheduled for Friday's October 31st ceremony (or maybe I have and this is just one of "those" cases where I haven't received a letter) and I'm tired of waiting, so I've scheduled an infopass for tomorrow.

I was wondering if anyone who's been in a similar situation in the past could share their experience with me? Will they even entertain the notion seeing as it's not been 45 days yet? Or is 34 close enough!!?? I have a flight home scheduled for the 19th of November (which I can change if necessary without too many issues) - would bringing proof of that itinerary help any?

Sooooooooo frustrating..............

Damian -

I think the concern some may have for your case would be proving your marriage was bonafide via the normal means, which is sending proof of co-mingling of assets (the Service's standard method of deciding a couple is legit because fraudsters don't mix their money together).

Your marriage was short and that is going to be abundantly clear. You really didn't have a lot of time to 'mingle' assets and if I were in your shoes I would probably cover my petition with a letter stating such.

What probably wouldn't hurt your case at all would be statements in affidavits from your friends attesting to the length of the relationship prior to the marriage. That info may be in your case file to date, but I'd reiterate it in the ROC filing. I'd duplicate any other evidence I might also have on hand showing how long you knew each other prior to the marriage.

Thinking about you a lot.

Yes, this is the way I see it too, although it's not as bad as I first thought in terms of "joint items." Our landlord will attest to the fact that we both resided at the same address in a written statement, and I also have a vehicle insurance policy addressed to her, but with me as a named driver - better than nowt at any rate.

And as you quite rightly say, they already have all the evidence from the K1 petition (i.e. the fact that we lived together for two years whlist I was over on a F1, etc) showing that the relationship was already well established long before the marriage occured (eight years established, to be precise). It's not going to be an issue; it's just a hassle I can well do without right about now.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how you're feeling.

I don't know if there's anything I can offer you, as I don't know too much about immigration after getting the CGC, or about paperwork in the US following a bereavement. But still, if there's anything you can think of, please just let me know. Even if you want me to send out a resume for you in your area and job-field (you're having to quit school?).

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thank you, Gemmie. However, rest assured that I have absolutely no intention of quitting school; I will simply have to work evenings and weekends to make ends meet. And if that means flipping burgers, so be it!

Damian,

Did your wife file a tax return at all or was she not required to? Even if she filed separately it would have listed her as married and include your name and SSN on the return, so if she filed at all you could include that return. As well, you will be listed as the surviving spouse on the documents related to her passing (funeral arrangements, newspaper obituary, etc.). Did she include you in her will as her spouse or executor? That can also be used as evidence. Are you listed as her beneficiary in any type of pension or death benefits? You can also get affidavits from your stepchildren verifying your relationship. Again, I am so sorry this has happened. Good luck with everything.

Kathryn

My wife died intestate. The only life insurance policy she held was at her workplace. Her eldest daughter is the named beneficiary (she made that arrangement shortly after the child's birth in 1991, and never got around to altering it). I am the beneficiary of a small 401K fund, due to there being no other named beneficiary.

With regard to the affadavits, I'd sooner get them from the friends Amber and I met and socialised with as a couple, along with one from her brother. I think that will be more than sufficient; I don't want to put the kids through any more hassle.
