US Citizenship General DiscussionYet another N-400 speeding ticket topic

OK, rather than start (yet) another thread on the subject, I'll just jump on this one! I to was pulled over and ticketed back in 2010. The cop told me that if I took a defensive driving course (which I did) the matter wouldn't be reported. I took the course. A couple of weeks ago, I received the safe driver renewal form (Illinois allows you to renew online, no DMV visit, no questions asked up the age of 74 provided you have no citations) so I figure it's a total non-issue, right?

Right but if you didn't send the G-1145 you have to wait until the first letter show up to get you case number.

I know. But the insinuation on this thread to date is that one MUST send the G-1145 to be able to get an online status update. And I'm simply redressing the balance by informing the OP that that is not in fact the case.  Nothing more, nothing less.

No, you don't need to send the G-1145 - that only gets you a text/email message. I didn't send that form and nor have I had to create any kind of account to have successfully checked my status online.

Simply enter your case number (in its entirety, including letters and any special characters)n the "receipt number" field here, minions2:

Completely optional, but my personal preference is always to include one. Mine read simply "To whom it may co concern, please find enclosed the following documentation re N-400 application..." and then I just bullet-pointed what was enclosed.

OP - this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with your question/situation, but I'm just curious as to your other citizenship (as well as German, I mean). I'm going to hazard a guess at Turkish? Based on nothing more than knowing there's a huge Turkish population in Deutschland?

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat country of birth do I put in passport application

Alamro, just put Jordan. I mean, it's just a means to an end, right? It doesn't make you any less Palestinian at the end of the day. It's like the oath ceremony, when you have to disavow any association with any other land. I have a British friend that woun't become a U.S. citizen because he point blank refuses to speak the words necessitated in the swearing of the oath. Why?? Is it going to make him any less British?? Is it going to erase his birth and upbringing? Is it bollocks! He'll always be a Brit in his heart just like you'll always be a Palestinian - there's no "betrayal" issue here if that's what you're worried about. ;-)

US Citizenship General DiscussionTampa field office N-400 Oath Ceremony Schedule

OK, so despite quite an extensive search, I couldn't find any definitive answers re the schedule either. What would be most helpful is if someone that's recently taken the oath in Tampa could let us know WHERE exactly said ceremony was conducted, and then it should simply being a case of contacting said venue to gather the relevant information.

Fwiw, second stage, the only definitive ceremony-to-location link I could find was a ceremony at Tampa Convention Center - but that dated back to 2008.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDoes a RFE Affect the Time Bewteen Interview and Oath?

I am guessing that you will make the schedule for this ceremony--

Friday, October 31, 11:00 a.m., TFE Courthouse, 28th Floor, En Banc Courtroom

Happy Halloween!

There is a ceremony tomorrow, but you wouldn't have made it anyway--RFE or not. They have to print up your certificate and such.

http://www.moeb.usco...hedule_2014.htm
http://www.moeb.usco...uralization.htm

Interesting that they say check in 15 minutes early. Must not be many people. Houston checks in 2-3 hours early and holds it in a double decker gymnasium....lower level and balcony level. Thousands of people there.

That would be PERFECT.

Good points, well made, but it's the inconsistency that infuriates me: some IOs care; others don't! Come on, USCIS - sort it out!

US Citizenship General DiscussionDoes a RFE Affect the Time Bewteen Interview and Oath?

I had my interview on Monday and was told everything was fine except for some missing documentation, that being a certified court document stating that my one and only speeding ticket from FOUR YEARS AGO (rolls eyes) had been successfully actioned. As it goes, thankfully for some reason unbeknown to me, I'd actually kept the original citation given to me by the cop on the roadside, and even more thankfully, the lady at the courthouse was able to pull up all the details about the incident on her computer, and was able to provide me with the necessary documentation, which I returned to the USCIS office the same day. The moral of the story here is KEEP YOUR SPEEDING TICKETS! But anyway, I digress.

I duly received the update on the USCIS website stating that they had received the documentation and were proceeding with the case. I had asked the IO that interviewed me if that's all that was needed, and everything else was fine, and she assured me it was. Thing is, the status update says I will hear about any decision within 60 days - is that actually likely? Or will they now proceed with my case as swiftly as they would have done had the RFE not been in effect?

Would like to hear from anyone else in the same boat.

Thanks.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion about N-400

The first answer is the date she arrived on her k-1

The second answer is "NO"....they are asking only about prior marriages.

The answer is yes, she should put 2 - she should include the current marriage. The question is "how many times has your current spouse been married" not "how many times has your current spouse been married before."

Hi Damian P,

Hope you get your letter soon!

I'm also bummed because 3 people who had their interviews at the end of September here in Chicago were put in line for Oath 2-7 days after their interview and no movement in my case yet....

Thanks, chica. Best wishes to you too.

Hey--
I woke up this morning wondering about you. And here you are. That sucks that you even had to produce that ticket. The instructions say you don't if fine less than $400 and no drug or alcohol involved. The person who would answer the general USCIS line will be worthless. Maybe an infopass appointment??

Or mail them a letter to get straight to the office. Address on this page https://egov.uscis.g...or.statecode=MO

There's also some phone numbers that probably don't have a real person who answers, but try them. And that's about all I have to offer. Good luck.

As always, Mama-Nich, gratitude for your wise counsel.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTaking Too Long For The Oath Letter?

OK, so here's the scoop:

Had my interview, passed, but had to get a document from a courthouse for a four-year-old speeding ticket. Relevant documentation was duly acquired, and, tbf, the online status change to "Oath in scheduling queue" followed shortly thereafter. That was September 25th. The next Oath ceremony in St Louis is on October 31st, and there's no earthly reason that I shouldn't be scheduled for it (we're not talking NYC or LA where there's a bazillion applications to process) yet no letter. Starting to get a little twitchy and recall the (multiple) horror stories of missed interviews due to no letters being received.

So, to the nuts and bolts of who to talk to if it hasn't arrived by the end of this week (which is plenty long enough). Is the guy/gal that I call at USCIS going to give me the "yeah, you have to wait 45 days before we can do anything" BS, even though I know (well, with a 99.9% degree of certainty anyway) that I'll be down for the 31st? Do I have to go through this whole "tier 2 officer" #######?

Damn, I'll be glad when I don't have to deal with them ever again!!!!!!!!

Damian P, I really hope they schedule your oath soon. It really sucks that they are taking so long in St. Louis!

I received my oath ceremony letter today, it's on November 4th! It's extra special because it's my son's birthday!

To those who have been to the oath ceremony, on the letter is says that I need to bring any other immigration documents you may have in your possession, but other than a couple of reentry permits and Conditional and 10-year GCs, I don't have anything else. What did you bring?

Also, can someone update my timeline? Thanks!

Congrats, Alix!

See, this is what drives me NUTS. My I.O. insisted that I had to get court documentation for my four-year-old speeding ticket before my application could be approved. Thankfully, I'd kept the ticket, but ffs, where the hell is the consistency!!???

I was looking at the Interview Document Check List they sent with the interview letter and I was just wondering if anyone can clarify something for me. I'm applying based on marriage and they are asking for proof of marital union. What do they mean by that? Is it the bank statements, lease, etc??? I just want to make sure I bring everything they ask. Thanks!

19 days is not enough.

FInd your nearest passport agency: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/information/where-to-apply/agencies.html

Make an appointment and pay expedited fees to get it sooner like in 5 days otherwise you can try to get same-day.

The passport tracker is at the bottom of the main timeline  "N-400: June 2014 Applicants"

There isn't one anywhere near me - let's hope 19 days IS enough!!! If not, I'll just have to change my flight date, won't I.

Checkout the passport tracker at the link in the timeline...

Congrats, man. It seems rather fitting that you should be the first to complete the whole process of application to passport in hand.

With regard to the passport thing, where is the passport tracker link you speak of? I can't seem to see it? It's just that, if my guess is right, I'll be taking the oath at the next scheduled ceremony in St Louis on October 31st. My flight home is booked for November 19th, so I'm wondering if 19 days is enough time for a regular passport application to be completed or if I may have to utilize the same express service you did?

Damian PMaleEngland2014-09-24 10:40:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 JUNE 2014 Filers

OK, so here's how it went down:

I turned up at the federal building in St Louis about 20 mins prior to my interview. I slipped the appointment letter into the slot provided, and was called right on time.

From the second the lady IO swore me in, the whole experience was positive and pleasant. I instantly knew that I'd passed, which made the whole process a breeze. She smiled and said "I don't think you're going to have too much of a problem with this" as she asked me to read a sentence and write "California has a lot of people" on the piece of paper provided.

I was then asked the following six questions:

There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote - describe one of them.

If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

Who is in charge of the executive branch?

How old do citizens have to be to vote for president?

What is one reason colonists came to America?

Name two national US holidays.

She then went through the formality of asking me the questions on the N-400 form, actually apologizing for having to do so! And here's where the hitch occurred. Everybody familiar with the eternal speeding ticket debate? Well, I had one four years ago, and I mentioned as much on the N-400. I actually kept the ticket, along with proof of the defensive driving course they had me take as to avoid the offence ever appearing on my driving record. However, that was not enough, and she insisted that I needed something from the courthouse concerned stating that the matter had been dealt with. So many other people have said that their IO wasn't bothered about it but mine was. I explained that it was four years ago and it had never gone to court and as such, they probably didn't haven't any record of it. To her absolute credit, she altered her wording on the N-14 form (that's the one they give you when further documentation is required) stating that if there was no official record, that a letter stating as much on headed paper would suffice. As it goes, I went to the courthouse concerned, and incredibly, all she had to do was type in the four-year-old ticket number and hey presto, up it popped!! Keep all your speeding tickets, folks!!! I returned to the USCIS office with the required documentation the next day (today) and now it's just the a case of waiting for the oath ceremony.

Really was a an absolute breeze - a most pleasant experience. We were chatting about current affairs, movies etc by the end of it!

Since your coming interview is on October 1st you could finish your citizenship journey very soon after your interview...
Just my 2cents ;)

Was just reading this post and thought I'd have a look at the St Louis dates - looks like there's one per week, which SHOULD mean a pretty quick march from interview to oath. Right???

Anyway, if anyone's curious as to the schedule for their field office, just Google "naturalization ceremony *insert your city here*" and it should pop up.

Hi Damian,

Sorry about your job (or not!). Have you checked other St. Louis filers? How long is it taking there from in line to interview? I guess it all depends on when are you going and how long you are staying, in case you do get a letter soon. But also, they usually give you at least two weeks between the letter and the interview so you should be ok.

Good luck with everything!

I'm guessing the interview letter by the end of this month and the interview at the end of September. Whatever - I'm flying home on Tuesday!!!!
