This is beyond crazy. I hope you can get it sorted out easily -- either with a phone call or tax transcripts/affidavit as suggested above!

Oh wow. I'm so sorry. Mostly sorry that they made you wait so long before the denial. I truly hope that the problem is option #1, and you two can file again ASAP -- hopefully with a shorter wait this time.

All the best to you in your journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPetition Doubts - Your Input Requested Please
We just followed the instructions here on VJ. For the I-129F, we sent the following (copied from our cover letter):

Form G-1145
Check
Form I-129F
G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)
G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)
Copies of:
Birth certificate/US Passport (Petitioner)
Divorce certificate (Petitioner)
Birth, marriage, and divorce certificate (Beneficiary)
Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner)
Letter certifying intent to marry (Beneficiary)
Proof of having met in person in the past two years (4 pictures)

That's it. No financials. Nothing notarized.

We've only just received the NOA2, so I can't say we're out of the woods yet, but at least the petition was approved with no RFEs.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTo Send or Not to Send
I would wait. I *did* wait. They had my electronic version on Tuesday but not the hard copy. I called again today (Friday) and the hard copy is received and Packet 3 sent out to me yesterday. For the sake of a couple of days, I would rather wait and not risk my documents being lost or misfiled because they didn't have me properly in their system yet.

That's just my 2 cents though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 visa fee changing?
I'm happy for all you who are still in the early stages! Every little bit less that they take is great!

I have to say that I think it blows chunks though... The price drops by almost $100 between the time I pay for my interview (Mar 14) and the time of my interview (Apr 24), and I don't get a refund. That is dirty business right there... (especially since I'm paying for 2 k2s as well!)

But I will try not to grumble too much, and just be happy for those coming after me. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPackage 3 Montreal
There is a great guide for K1s going through Montreal on the Canada forum: Montreal Guide Read it. It will tell you what you need to know.

The police check, birth certificate, etc don't need to be sent with P3. You will need to hand them in at the interview though.

Try reading the Montreal guide. It will help.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions and concerns regarding k1 visa
If your prior marriage is your only worry, I wouldn't bother with an attorney. My now-husband and I had both been married previously to other people. I'm from Canada; he is the USC. At the K1 interview, they didn't ask any questions about our prior marriages -- they only wanted to see the documentation that proved we were both legally divorced and free to marry each other.

With your income, again, as long as you have documentation (tax transcripts, letter from your employer, etc) to prove that you make over the level required, you should be just fine.

Well done you, for looking into the process and preparing yourselves in advance! Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFollow to join (k2) - how does it work?
I had been planning to have my 2 children immigrate with me, but now that we're approaching the finish line, my ex is dragging his feet and suggesting alternate arrangements (ie, they live with him for a year first), so I thought I should investigate the follow-to-join option for k2s.

I'm having trouble finding any good, detailed information though. If anyone has a link that might point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

I think my most pressing questions now, though, are:
1) When sending in Packet 3, if the kids will be following to join, do I only send in papers for me now, or still for all 3 of us?
2) When booking the medical and interview, do the kids do their medical/interviews now, or is that done later, when they are ready to come along to the US?

Thanks for any help/guidance you can provide.

Does anyone happen to know the purpose of showing the USC's birth certificate? My USC fiance was born in Europe but went thru immigration/citizenship in the US as an adult. I wonder if his birth certificate is really what they'll want or if I will need his passport and/or citizenship papers of some sort.
Things that make you go "hrm..."

CanadaP3 items (Montreal)
Normally I consider myself a fairly intelligent woman, but, wow, when I try to get my head around all the paperwork and evidence required for the K1... I feel like my brain fell out! Here's hoping my wonderful fellow Canadian VJers can help.

Alright, I'm looking at the P3 list on the Montreal web site. My fiance is coming up here to visit next month and he wants to be able to bring as many of the originals as possible that I will need for the interview. (Yeah, we haven't even sent off the 129F yet... we're a little eager...)

First question. The checklist says an original and copy of each document for each "applicant". Am I, as the Canadian fiancee, the "applicant"?
ie, do I only need my own birth cert. and divorce cert, or do I need those of my USC fiance as well?
Also, I have 2 children who will be going through for K2s. Would they be considered "applicants" too? I'll bring their birth certificates for sure, but do I actually need 3 copies of every document, since there are 3 of us? I'm so confused.

Also, in the list is "Marriage certificate" -- I am divorced, as is my fiance. Do we need copies of our previous marriage certificates to go along with the divorce certificates? I'm thinking maybe the marriage certificate applies more to people on the K3 visa but who knows... Did I mention I'm confused?!

Thanks in advance for any clarification you can provide.

CanadaFees after noa-1
I have 2 kiddos going through the process with me as well, so I can tell you what I've budgeted.

- Medical for the 3 of us in Toronto = $575
- Interview fees for the 3 of us in Montreal = $1050
- Then, in the US, don't forget the $1000+ for filing the AOS paperwork x3 = $3640

That's all I've got so far, but it seems like plenty to me! I'll be watching this thread to see if there's anything I've missed too.

Good luck!

CanadaDid I get everything I need for my interview?
I can't help with your questions as I'm not even close to this part of the journey yet, but I do hope you'll update after your interview and let us know how much of this you actually needed. I've copied your list for reference when my time comes. Thanks so much for posting it!

I'm particularly interested in this part:

Hopefully they don't require his original birth certificate and a copy will suffice. He can't come with me to my interview and we're a little worried about sending his original birth certificate around. He also used his passport to prove his citizenship on the I-129F as well as his birth certificate so I hope either/or will be acceptable--if they ask for it.

I'll be in the same boat. My fiance can't come with me to the interview and he's not too keen on shipping either his original birth certificate or his US passport up here for me to travel to Montreal with. I hope that a copy will work.

Good luck to you!

Canadatitre test info?
So, I'm still waiting for NOA2, but I want to get moving on stuff for the medical/interview stage. I've been looking into the vaccination stuff and I'm a bit in the dark.

(I'm in Ontario, if that helps...)

I called the local public health office but they told me (gak) I'm too old and they don't keep records that long (I'm only 41, for cryin' out loud!). I've been with my family doctor since I was 17, but he says that he doesn't have any immunization information from my childhood in his records, and my pediatrician retired long ago.
So... I asked my doctor about the magical titre test that will define what I have immunity for. He has never heard of any such test and has no idea what I'm talking about. Sorry, can't help you. End of discussion.

So... any ideas? Is there anyone who did have the test done who can give me a specific name or point me in the right direction? I don't know whether to go to a walk-in clinic to try a different doctor, or if I can just show up at a lab and ask to have blood work done... I have no idea where to go now.

Any suggestions would be mucho appreciated. Thanks.

Canadasarnia/port huron poe today
Congrats to frostiana!

I wish I had read this a couple of weeks ago, to know about the delays. My kids and I went to visit my fiance in October and flew out of Detroit, crossing at Sarnia first. I had left what I thought was ample traveling time, but we sat on the bridge for 2 hours! Gah, I thought we were going to miss our flight. :( Everyone was nice though. Aside from the wait time, it was an easy crossing.

Canadapack 3 kids passport photos..

For each person, including children: 2 for packet 3, 3 for the medical exam, and 2 for the interview. It's a lot of photos!

Ugh. Just when I think I'm getting a handle on this process... I just, tonight, read everything I could find on P3 for Montreal and apparently missed this bit. 2 for the packet as well, eh? *sigh*

Thanks for the info!

CanadaInterview Payment??????
From the stickied Montreal guide:

You’ll be prompted to select your reason for immigrating, and you can chose either of the K1 options (Permanently immigrate or ready to schedule). If you chose “Permanently Immigrate” you will need to pay the $350 fee via credit card before you can schedule. If you would rather pay the fee at the interview (US cash only, exact change!) just choose “ready to schedule”

I really hope this is still the case. I have the US cash here already, just waiting to be used.

Canadaphotos for P3, medical, interview
I know I'm obsessing about details and things that are probably completely unimportant, but... that's what's getting me through the process so far.

So, the photos that need to be submitted with Packet 3, the medical, and the interview -- is there any reason why they all should be the same? I still have 2 copies of the photos I had taken for the I-129F, so technically I could submit them with P3 (assuming I can submit it soon). But, I would need to get more taken for the medical and interview, which, obviously, would be different from those sent with P3.

I can't see that it should be an issue, but hearing that others have submitted different pictures with no trouble would put my mind at ease (until I think up the next potential problem, at least).

Thanks!

CanadaK2 interviews in Montreal
Ok, so for those waiting on resolution of this question...

I emailed Montreal and (surprise!) got an answer back in 1 week. I sent my MTL number and the ages of my kids and asked about the "waiver of personal appearance". The answer is, the kids *do* need to appear at the interview.

Thanks for all your help.

CanadaK2 interviews in Montreal

I think you're ok, but just a note...they honestly do not care if it's inconvenient for you...it's all about them (USCIS) :D.

:-) Yeah, I get that. I just don't want to drag my kids there and then find out after the fact that it wasn't necessary. If USCIS wants them there, that's fine too.

I've sent off an email to Montreal. I was under the impression that they're hard to get any information from, but like "Flames" said, I have the time, I might as well ask.

Thanks all!

CanadaK2 interviews in Montreal
Searching VJ is a wonderful thing... you can find so many people with the same question as you -- but sometimes it's tough to find nonconflicting answers, isn't it?

So, after searching diligently and sifting through the Montreal consulate web site, I'm here to ask the question...

Do my kids (K2s, ages 9 and 6) need to attend the interview with me? I got the feeling here on VJ that the answer is no, but the consulate Web site seems to state that only in "special circumstances" are kids exempt.

And, part 2, for anyone who has NOT taken their child to the interview, how did you go about getting an exemption from Montreal? Email before scheduling? Letter sent with packet 3? other...

I think my kids would be bored out of their skulls there all day, and I would be stressed out with trying to keep them happy and occupied, on top of the stress of the interview itself. (Not to mention that travel expenses to Montreal for 1 are less than for 3.) I'd love to not have to take them along, but I'm just not sure how to go about it.

Anyone with any recent experience and details to share?

Thanks!
K

Canadapack3..kids forms..
I just sent my P3 in yesterday. The only one that I did *only* for me was the 156K. All the rest I filled out one for me and one for each kiddo -- the 160 as well.

Better to send too much than too little, I think.

Good luck!

CanadaMontreal website updates
You don't need the 134/864 for sending in P3.

All you need to send now is:
- Checklist of documents for interview
- DS-230 part I
- DS-156 (2 copies)
- DS-156K
- Confirmation receipt for Form DS-160
- Passport style photos x2
- Color photocopy, biographic data page of passport

The rest of the stuff on the checklist is to be taken to the interview. Hope that helps.
