United KingdomLondon 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread
Hi everyone... Embassy received my packet 3 on September 20th, 2012.. My Fiancee's interview date was just confirmed over the phone today by "Department of State" after the monday holiday for "Columbus Day" here in the states... It is scheduled for October 25th, 2012... She sent all of her required forms in together along with the DS-2001... her medical was completed and results received 4 days prior to embassy receiving our packet 3. I checked with DOS on Wednesday October 3rd for the first time and they said all of our forms were logged and we were eligible for an interview date. I waited until today to call, so the interview may have even been scheduled the day after my first phone call 5 days ago or so.

The only thing we did that may, or may not, have influenced the time frame is that we detailed on the cover letter my travel dates back to London on November 8th to hopefully help her pack and await her visa.

Hope this helps

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale
Hi... there was no appointment needed, however you do take a number when there.... we happened to be travelling to Italy, so while in Florence we went to the Palazzo di Giustizia to criminal records department... wasnt a long wait, but remember they close at 130 i think for an hour or an hour and a half. and then reopen again.. While there my fiancee filled out the form while waiting (she can speak, read and write italian) . then she gave them a stamped envelope to mail the info back to us. The thing you need to remember when paying in person is that you need some sort of stamp/sticker to pay the fees for the certificates with... you go to a tobacco shop or something similar and pay for these stamps which list the value on them. Not sure of the amount, but it's not very much... 14 euros I think... we received the certificate in London approx. 1 week later. we were frustrtated that they wouldnt give us the other document, because there is ALWAYS something to complicate things right?!?!?!! haha! hope this helps

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale
Hi... my Fiancee Is from Poland and currently residing in the United Kingdom. She spent a total of about 4 years in Italy (Florence and Rimini).... we went to Italy a couple weeks ago, and while there we went to request her police certificate and "the Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale." We received the police certificate with no problems, but they said they could not issue her the "Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale" because she was never an official resident and never took out a loan or credit card for example.... I dont even think she was on a lease contract for the flats she lived in...... she did work though at a few places....... This cert is to show that she has no outstanding debt or bankruptcy etc... has anybody had any experience with this? any help would be appreciated because the US embassy website says that this form is required from people who have resided in Italy for longer than 12 months.... thank you for any responses

My friend,
we are all the same boat. I knew that we cannot take with you Fish Sauce (nuoc mam) on aircraft. However, if you live near VN hometown such as Houston ... in Texas, or Orange COunty , San Jose (California), you can stop by to shop. Even you are faraway from that, you can order online and mostly they will ship to you. I had relatives living in CHicago and when they need VN stuff (food, houseware, ....) I ship to them from Orange County (Cali.) those are very cheap comparing American food.
SOrry if my english is not easy to understand (thought in Vietnamese way) you can ask any VN tradition, custom, I will help

smile.gif Thank you all for all of the congrats. We were very lucky the case went smooth and fast without lawyer's help. Plus I only went to Viet Nam one time, and we did not have an engagement party. But she presented many evidences at the interview, especially the hand-written letters counted a lot!!! The interview took at least 30 mins with only a few questions asked (5 or less), the CO and translator spent most of the time reading two hand-written letters in Vietnamese (my letters to my fiancee). There were too many letters I sent to her, but they only randomly chose to read two. The CO picked the long one (about 5-6 pages). They did not read the letters from my fiancee sent to me. There were many emails but they did not look at. So letters are better than emails.

Just a corrections: Our first slip given was blue (asking for timeline and evidence paid for airline tickets), and second slip was green, NOT BLUE, (asking for our parents' Birth Certs). Then we were approved right away after submitting the Birth Certs.

Hope all of you in AP will get PINKs asap. And good luck to all upcoming interviews. Again thanks all and best wishes!:)

Visao, just a quick question. For your timeline submission, do you have the timeline in both English and Vietnamese? I already have our timeline written down thus far, and I plan on sending it to my wife before the interview just in case. Again, congrats on your pink slip!

Hi Tyrobe:

FYI: Timeline (describing your love relationship in detailed story) I wrote in English BOTH HAND-WRITTEN & TYPYING; all were notarized. My fiancee submitted the ones in English. I translated to Vietnamese everything I wrote just for her info. The ones in Vietnamese needed not to be notarized and for you fiancee/wife to keep smile.gif

If you guys dont mind, consider Asiana or Korea airline. They are most cheapest airfare when we booked tickets on Orange COunty, CA at Vietnamese travel agents that you can cearch on internet. The reason was to delay 8 hours at incheon airport when return to US, however, they offer hotel or short visit to Soul for that time.

To all my friends,

I have to say thank you to all people giving such a good idea above. Let me explain situation (it might be in VN way): after talked to her Sat last week (2:00am in US, 4 pm in VN) mostly hours through yahoo messenger, first one was she disliked to file the K-1 since lots of scams in HCM now: 9 over 10 people get blue or green. She asked me why I dont file for K-3 (spouse) for more assurance? how can I file that way w/o marriage cert.? second was only 30 hours after the call, I receive her email complaining me that why I said to her :"T. yeu anh vi tien ca de dc wa my, you love me b'cause of money and come to US?. Imagine that you are sponsoring her and how dare you say that?. She suggest we need more time to re-think about our love w/o disturbing other by phone to her or her family. However, I did try several calls and skype messages asking for explain but no answers. My cousine, her friend, also try to call and IM her but still results. That's all for right now. I asked my parents, uncle (in VN), and my friends (in US and VN) for help while trying to make decision. All of people above said to me to stop the case while our self-esteem were very high, therefore, our love cannot be prolonged for the rest of our life.

That's I can say at the moment.

I got my plane ticket yesterday. I paid $1,324.29 for a round-trip from Des Moines International Airport. Hahahahaha, that's funny. Des Moines International Airport. They must have a UPS plane that flies up to Winnepeg or something. I feel very lucky to get that price on 2 weeks notice. That is only $125 more than I paid last January (2007). Not bad, considering the hefty increase in the price of fuel. Have to leave on Monday or Tuesday, though. Any other day is $300 to a whopping $2,100 more expensive.

So I got to playing around with the fare search on Orbitz. It turns out that if I could somehow get a ticket within the next few hours, and leave at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, I would still pay $1,324.29. But if I left on Wednesday, April 30th, one day after my actual departure date, I would have paid more than double. How do they come up with these pricing schedules? It boggles the mind.

From LAX (Los Angeles airport) before this month, April

Asiana $800
Eva $ 950
China $1050
United $1005

Cao

According to the instructions in the I-129f, you have to request a waiver if you have file two or more petition in the past or had a previous K1visa approved in the last two years before filing this petition. To request a wavier you have to submit a written request with your I-129f and document to show why the wavier should be granted.

There isn't a form to fill out but you should treat this as you would your proof of having meet in person and proof of your ongoing relationship. Your request should clearly and completely say why the other I-129fs or previous K1 visa didn't work out and why this one will. Then have evidence to back that up. For example, if your earlier I-129f was submitted for a different fiancee, what happened in that relationship and why, was the I-129f cancelled or denied, etc. You would include emails, letters, court documents if applicable, USCIS and Consulate documents, etc to explain what happened.

Good Luck

QUOTE (PeterFB @ Jul 30 2008, 11:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If you are serious about this, you need to cancel the other application. I think you will need to file for a waver when you file your second I-129f. Also the HCMC Consulate is very picky. You need to have as complete as possible picture explaining your canceled petition and why you feel this women is the right one. Then you need to show enough evidence that this new relationship is the real one. Going to visit her is a good idea even before you cancel the other petition. You have to build a strong case for your relationship that meets the guidlines the Consulate has. You have to have a relationship that a reasonable person would believe is real based only the evidence you supply in your I-129f and at the interview. The key to a sucessful visa is in your I-129f petition not at the interview. At the interview the Consulate checks your story with your fiancee. If everything is believeable in your I-129f and what she says at the interview, you get the visa, if not then you get a blue slip, green slip or outright denial.

If you do everything right, you'll get it on the first try.

Good Luck

Hello every one.
My fiancee had her interview at the HCMC Consulate on Thursday the 24th . We thought our documents were really well prepared. We 've been through every thing several times, made sure we had everything in order. We also have ME is our lawyer for the case from start. Here is list of what US consulate in Ho Chi Minh asking for:

Also pelase indicate when your ex spouse immigrated to the united states. Did he/ she imingrated with you? Did some one sponsor him/her? If so, whats their name? Did she come to the US by boat? If so please indicatewhen he/she left Viet Nam. Through what camp he/she immingrated

2- Applicant: Please provide the full name, current address, and date and place of birth of your ex-spouse. Please provide evidience of his/ her current address

I had everything done and notary all documents, I will Fedex to Viet nam by Monday, I will update my case later, hopefully Mr ME can help us push the case go thru . I have all my question up here so who ever have coming interview day know what you should expect to have and prepare with your interview, try to think that if missing one of these documents will be a big trouble thing for your case. I dont know if any one else has the same situation? can we share?

your case was monitored by ME? If yes, I wondwererd ME should know or forsee the process, or might be his assistant involved (not himself). Good luck to both of you can reunited in States soon

Hello, I have just joined this site... obviously and have been scouring the forums and guides. This is all very quite overwhelming for the both of us right now. I have flown to Hanoi, VN and currently living with my fiance. We have been in contact since January 4th,2009 and I flew here to stay with her on March 10th. Since, we have taken a trip together to Thailand and HCMC. We decided that we should start the K1 process ASAP so that she can come to America and visit with my family, etc...

Anyways, my three main questions are:
1.) Can I begin to file paperwork while I am living in Vietnam? At least the first package? I really would like to stay here with her during the process. My mother at home can supply paperwork for me and I don't mind mailing UPS/DHL back to america.

2.) I currently am living off of my saved money (no job) and will be working in Vietnam within a month; (getting a teaching license to teach foreigners.)
Does this affect the way I fill out my paperwork as far as financial sponsorship? I make more than enough to cover %125 rule, even over last 3 years.

3.) Are there any Hanoians out there experiencing this or peeps in Saigon that would be willing to meet up and just talk this experience, hang out, make new friend?

My name is Antonio and my fiance name is Nhung. We are a young couple, I am 24 and she is 25. Looking forward to hearing back from you all and especially those here in Vietnam.

1. You can begin to collect papers, evidences (look at the guides from forum), ... and file ASAP (make sure completeness, detail since this one will be USCIS judgement). Since you just left US, you cannot file DCF (directly from ammbassy).
2. For K-1, you must file I-134 later which requires financial supports (no cosponsor accepted). You may consider to get marriage and file CR-1. For that, your mother can cosponsor for you in I-864.
3. There are 2 people from the north, as many as I know, and they all left VN. You can ask them for experience.

On her visa paperwork it says that her sponsor paperwork expires on May 8, 2009. Her visa does not expire until September. I am wondering, is the expiration of her sponsor documents going to be a problem?

Thanks

I was looking around to get a copy of the form IV18a (US Medical Questionnaire) which I can actually use for the medical. Since I just recieved the NVC letter for an interview and havent recived any paperwork I was trying to get hold of this form so I can get my medical completed asap. I saw few threads in here where people were asking where they can get it and since I found it I thought I'll post it

Use the link below to download or I have attached the pdf (see last page for the form).

Hope this helps someone

Cheers.

Hi there Rooky,
Thanks in advance for the information provided. I just checked with USCIS on our application status (IR1/CR1/K3 NOA received 25-Jul-2012) and fingers crossed we'll get notified in Dec/Jan with request for this information. Just going to share that PDF with the medical details to the hubby to provide a heads up on what to expect.

Anyone from Copenhagen or who has spent time there in the summer around? The hubby and I are going to Sweden in a couple of weeks (early-mid July). We are flying into Copenhagen and then taking the train to Sweden.

Since neither of us have been to Copenhagen we are thinking of spending a couple of days there before our flight leaves back for the U.S. Unfortunately we will most likely be flying out on a Tuesday so we will spend Sunday and Monday in Copenhagen (we would have preferred Friday/Saturday night).

Does anyone know what Copenhagen will be like on a Sunday/Monday in the summer, if there will be fun places open, nightlife etc? I would assume there will be plenty of things going on during the "prime vacation time" so to speak but I want to make sure since Dave easily gets restless... happy.gif

I've been to Copenhagen quite a few times (lived about 45 min away in Lund, Sweden for a couple years). Copenhagen is such a lovely city in the summer (assuming you have good weather). If I remember correctly, most places will be closed on Sundays or have restricted opening hours, so it kind of depends on what you plan to do there. Monday, however, will return to normal business hours. I would recommend going to Tivoli at night, it's really beautiful and romantic with all the lights, visit Nyhavn (and perhaps take one of the boat tours around the city from there). There's also a lot of great shopping, cafes, and restaurants all throughout the city. Plenty of museums too if that's your thing. I think Copenhagen is definitely worth a visit, even if it's on a Sunday/Monday (but I have such great memories of the place so maybe I'm biased tongue.gif )

Aren't Finland and Iceland actually Nordic and not Scandinavian? I thought Scandinavia only included Norway, Denmark, and Sweden? This is probably open to interpretation though...

Asia: East and PacificAustralian Police Checks
Oh ok awesome, that'll save us some money! I had read in another forum that police checks would be required from any country where the beneficiary has lived for 6+ months, but I guess not. Thanks for the info!

Asia: East and PacificAustralian Police Checks
I just realized that my fiance (the beneficiary) will need to get an Australian police check since we will have been in Australia for over 6 months by the time we go back to our home countries next month.

My question is, though, at what point in time can he have the police check done? We arrived in Australia on Feb. 8 and will be leaving on Aug 24th. Can he do it as soon as we hit the 6 month mark (Aug 8)? Or just before we leave?

Also, how long does it typically take to process? Can the results be sent to his home address in Sweden?

Any info you guys might have would be helpful!!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAdjusting to Life in USA
Thank you All for your great posts and kind and positive comments. I really love my wife and I'm working incredibly hard to try and make her as comfortable and productive as possible. We began corresponding when I was in Iraq in 2005 and we have been through the death of both our Moms, the visa process, war and everything else to be together. I'm fighting as hard as I can to make our marriage a happy, success story.

Thanks again, and keep the ideas and positive ideas coming. I really appreciate it.

So the bottom line is that I'm looking for anyone out there who has had POSITIVE experiences getting adjusted and beginning their careers in the USA after coming from Russia. I know that if she can see some positive examples of ladies who have transistioned successfully that will really help her outlook and hopefully she can get some constructive advice on what steps she can take to attain the success here in this country that she seeks.
My wife was very successful in Russia. She had her own travel agency, worked when and how she wanted, traveled all the time, and had just bought a newly constructed high rise apartment. She too was worried about what she would do once she got here.

She arrived in the middle of July. Fortunately, I was on top of the paperwork and process issues, and the day after she arrived (which was a Sunday), we went to the social security office and applied for her SSN and to the DMV to get a state ID card. Within 2 weeks she had the SSN, and had started working as a volunteer at the local library. This allowed her to get some local business environment and language comfort, and also kept her from getting bored (she volunteered there for about 20 hours per week). It also gave her a local reference to use for her job hunt when the EAD came along. Within a month after arriving, she had her driver's license. Two weeks after that, we got married.

EAD showed up about 4 months after she arrived. By that time, she had already received a couple of job offers (travel agencies and post office). Within a week of having the EAD in hand, she accepted an offer at the local university as an admin assistant. Job was nothing special, pay was nothing special (mid 30s), but benefits were pretty good. It was also a very welcoming, supportive environment - an excellent choice for her overall. She worked there for about two and a half years. During that time, she used the 50% off tuition benefit to earn a master's degree. I also used this benefit to earn a master's degree and used a 100% off tuition benefit to take two semesters of Russian. Within two months of graduating, she has secured a professional job at a major local company, with a substantial salary and even better benefits than she had at the university.

Recap: After 3 years of being in the U.S., she acquired 2.5 years of work experience, earned a master's degree, and acquired professional employment with substantial compensation. However, she was also very motivated and worked very hard. Although she was constantly worried about being able to complete the master's program and find a real job, it really wasn't any trouble for her at all. If your lady is also substantially motivated, I really don't think she should have any problems.

Hope this helps!

AKD,

Thanks for that great post, I appreciate it. I'm curious though. How did your wife get the Master's Degree? Did her degree from Russia transfer directly over so she could jump right into a Masters program? My wife holds degrees from Moscow University in both Business Management and Medical Science. I've always had the impression that her degrees from Russia were not transferable. Your post makes me think I'm mistaken, which would be a good thing! Any info you have would be great. Thanks again.
