United Kingdompolice cert in hampshire
QUOTE (bunsk2007 @ Oct 15 2007, 03:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi there

We're still at the early stage, having only just filled I-130 in London. I'm wondering about the police certificate that I'll need- whether to apply for it now, just so that it's to hand for the next stage? I'm assuming that it would be the Hampshire police as this is where I've lived for the last 5 years- how far does it need to go back before that? Do I go to my local police station, and what is the certificate that I need? Is there a fee for it?

Thanks in advance. This forum is a real find- thank god for being able to chat with other people going through the same thing!
Jessica

The lady at Hampshire Police was really helpful. I was living in Germany when I applied so couldn't hop into a Police Station. Since you are in Hampshire you might not need them, but the contact details for the people who deal with the Police Certs for immigration are:

Data Protection Team
Information Compliance Unit
Phone: 01962 871541
Fax: 01962 871199
data.protection@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

Good luck with your journey and best wishes.

'....If you have lived at the above address for less than 10 years, please give your previous addresses for that period below. Continue on another piece of paper if you need to.'

This refers to number of different addresses within the country.

'All applicants over 16 are required to furnish....to cover any period of residence of twelve months or more since the age of 16.'

This part is confirming that you need a police certificate from any country where you have lived for more than 12 months (and just in case this is applicable to you, it's more than 6 months for your current country of residence and the country of your citizenship.)

Hope that makes sense!

I agree with thanksforthefish regarding the temp addresses.

United KingdomChristmas in the UK or US
Since we only got here last month, Christmas in the US for us. I've only had one huge cry about missing stupid British things (most of which can be found here anyway, but I was in a contrary mood that day..) and since we just found a house it will be great to be in by Christmas (despite our furniture still being somewhere mid-Atlantic.. but I do have a Christmas tree!)

Great comment Gwen, this made me giggle out loud. It's one thing I just can't get used to and I end up somehow trying to 'lift' the back end of the trolley to get around a corner or trying to do something akin to a handbrake turn and knocking into pyramids of boxes at the end of the aisles.

I think I actually drooled a little reading about mint viscounts!

I did find a couple of years ago if you buy double stuf mint oreos and close your eyes while eating them, it's not too hard to pretend it's a mint viscount (but it's not the same as the REAL THING!) =)

Ain't that the truth?! Hi - I'm afraid I don't know about 1 (but I don't see any reason if she has all the documents you state?) but either form of ticket would be okay and you are definitely right that the name on the ticket must match the name on the passport.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHas anyone postponed an interview?
Hello Lina, I was so sorry to hear of your troubles, I hope you're feeling okay and that David soon comes to his senses! I understand your saying you wont go to the interview anyway, without his backing and knowing he is waiting for you it would be a very difficult thing to go through. Also you wouldn't want I'm sure to be chatting to a CO about your relationship right now. Best wishes.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionStill no police certiicate

Well today was officially 40 days since we sent for the Scotland Yard police cert and we still have not recieved it yet...I have never checked the mail so many times in one day since we were waiting for this Da#m thing to come. Anyways still is not here. We sent back all other forms over a month a ago. We would have sent for police cert earlier but our attorney strictly told us not to. So it all depends on this before we can send in checklst and then wait for an interview date. How long from the time you send in checklist to the time you get interview date...anyone know? We are thinking about sending in checklist even though we dont have polce cert yet...

My forty days came and went and no sign of the certificate; I contacted Hampshire Police (where I'd applied in the first place) and the Data Officer there ordered me another one immediately and it was with me 2-3 days later (I live in Germany.) Turns out it had been delivered to a neighbouring (empty) house in error.

I wonder though why your attorney told you not to apply when the certificate is good for a year or something? Seems a strange thing for them to tell you not to do?

Anyway, hope you get it soon!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOverseas interviews

Ciudad Juarez is the only US Consulate in Mexico that issues fiance or spousal visas and they do not process third country national fiance or spousal visas.

There you go..... I knew you were correct in your answer but did not know why...... :D

Thanks ALL,

So I guess what you are saying is that I will have to, at some point, return to the U.K.

Any ideas on the following :

(1) How much notice I will get prior to the interview date.

(2) How long I should plan to be in the U.K. after the interview.

Thanks again.

Paul

Check out the UK forum (under regional discussions) for details of how much notice K1-ers got for their interviews. I guess they will inform you about the interview by post - what address have you put on your application? (although I think they may email you also)

You'll need to attend the medical as well (this can be done on the same day but is usually done beforehand so there is no delay in issuing the visa) then wait for the visa to arrive (usually a 'few' days later.)

Good luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 Question 2 Help!

Hi Guys,

Not sure where my UK passport was issued? Can't see anywhere on it any city. On the ID page, at the top it says "Type/Type" P. Now I have heard that this P could be Peterborough. Is this correct? Now this "country" would obviously be England, but what about the "State Province"?

Anyone suggest what I put for this?

Cheers,

Phil

Phil, on my husband's passport the second line up from the bottom says: Date of Issue. To the right of that it says 'Authority' His says British Embassy Athens there; I presume yours would say where the pp was issued.
State/Province would be Hampshire etc

Hi Phil - If you have a passport issued from within the UK, I think the 'authority' says UKPA (UK Passport Authority.) The P at the top isn't for Peterborough as I have one and I got mine in London! Did you send off for your passport from Newport (is it Newport? I am sure Swansea is Driving Licences?) if so I'd put UKPA in Newport, Gwent (NB not followed by 'England' ;)). If you got it from London I'd put 'UKPA, London, England.' Often on US forms my place of birth for example is listed as Hampshire, England rather than Southampton, Hampshire so I don't think they'll be too worried about the State/Province so long as the info you put is correct.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI wish I found this site sooner
We were part of the 'completely casual yet clean and presentable' brigade. Over 90% of the people interviewing when we did were in jeans. If he feels comfortable in jeans, let him wear them! It's not a job interview. He already got the job as your husband-to-be :) Teamed with a nice top (a polo shirt or something rather than a ten year old tour t-shirt) they look perfectly fine.

Good luck with his interview!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCouples Who Met Online
I met my husband online, although we weren't a couple before meeting 'in real life.' I found no issue at all with USCIS regarding the way we met: they asked at the interview, I told them. Telling the truth and having a genuine relationship regardless of how you met (as well of course as the meeting in the last 2 years part) is much more important.

In fact the only time I have ever felt that it has been an issue is when I have noticed the apparent 'snobbishness' that radiates from some people who didn't meet their partner online who feel for some reason they are somehow better and have more of a claim to a genuine relationship because of this.

US Citizenship General Discussiondual citizenship

Uh...which one of you is wanting to acquire dual citizenship?

You taking UK citizenship should not affect your US citizenship, though I can't think of a single good reason to do it. I've lived in the UK for six years and I've never given any thought to becoming a UK citizen. I don't even want to vote here; I don't care.

If your husband wants to vote, that's a good reason to take US citizenship...his UK citizenship would not be in jeopardy but if he was in a third country and got into trouble, the UK government would be less willing to help him; they're a bit childish that way. If he doesn't, then there's really no good reason to. He can live in the US as a PR quite happily for the rest of his life with no problems whatsoever; other people have done it.

Sigh, here we go again. As Boiler pointed out, being able to come and go as you please is a benefit for either a UKC or a USC to take citizenship with the other country. Also voting in a country where you have made your life is important to some people, even if it's not to you. And actually, I don't know where you get your information about the UK government being 'childish' about representation of one of their own, it's actually only within the country with which the dual citizen has citizenship (in this case, the US) where the UK government is unable to assist you, and it is thus noted within a UK passport.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionJoining the Marines
Hello,

There are some different rules applying to Active Duty Military Personnel with regard to immigration. If USCIS can't help you, talk to your recruiter who should be able to obtain information for you. There is also an expedite available for your citizenship if you are Active Duty, I think there is info on the USCIS website.

Best wishes and good luck with your military career!

Hi,

My wife 2-year green card will expire on 7/28/08. I filled out the I-751 and it is ready to submit. I know I must submit the I-751 90 days before the green card expires. Is this mean that I must submit the application exactly 90 days before or within 90 days?

One other question. We have a child who was born here in the US after our marriage. Do we have to fill out any form for him?

Thanks!

According to your post, your wife's card has already expired some 90 days ago

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAffidavits...necessary?
Hello,

I'm preparing my submission for removal of conditions. I have an issue with getting notarized affidavits due to the current circumstances of people who would be suitable to complete it (known for the whole length of the conditional residency, etc.)

I really want to get my submission off and I did a search here regarding affidavits and got a few different snippets of info. I keep seeing 'affidavits are not necessary' but I guess I'd just like some encouragement/support please!

Many thanks.

She has to change her DL address to the address where her husband lives and should attach copy of both your DL to show the same address. Thats if you want to show one more evidence with the docs.

quick questions on assembling the documents; and best practices:
- i think passport photos are no longer required, is that correct? CORRECT
- should we use a binder, staples or clip the documents in groups? BINDER
- should we highlight the names and dates on documents with a highlighter? NOT NECESSARY
- should we write down the dates & event description on the back of each photo? IF YOU WANT
- is the front page of a bank statement for example enough or do we need to include all the pages? THEY WANT TO SEE TRANSACTIONS

thanks,

Just a note and I'm sure it's not a deal breaker but this page dealing with how to submit stuff to USCIS says not to use binders.

I was kind of in the same situation, none of our friends had known us for the duration of our marriage.

In my case, I did not submit any affidavits at all and was approved speedily. I did however have a bunch of other docs. What do you have? If you confirm (generally, no need to go into details, just a list of 'joint lease', 'joint tax returns' etc) what you are submitting I am sure people will be able to advise/put your mind at ease =)

Hello,

I'm also a US military spouse (Air Force) and a British Citizen. My husband is based here in Germany and we did DCF (CR1 visa) from here. I entered the US to validate my visa in January and I will be here in Germany until December. There is no problem with your being out of the US due to your husband's military orders, but you should ensure you are included on these orders (not sure OP if you are coming to Germany from the US or from England? - you do not need a US passport to be flown on the military's expense, but you do need to be on the orders when he PCS-es.)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJoy but then more worry??? Approved but what now?
Congrats on your approval!

Shari is currently in the UK on a work visa (so that we could be together during some of this process). Looking at the guide there are alot of forms that she needs to fill out and signed infront of a noterie (sp) how does her being in the UK effect this, is there any ways round this?

If you just mean getting forms notarised(notarized) then this can be done by a Notary Public in the UK. Call round a couple of solicitors and you're likely to find one that has a Notary on staff. They will stamp your documents with the '3D' stamp exactly as a US notary does. They will charge (I think I paid around £50 for a bunch of signings for the annulment of my first marriage in the US.)

Shari has recently graduated and her payslips work history reflect that of someone working part time whilst a full time student. Will this be frowned upon when sending in her payslips?

So long as you meet the financial/income/asset requirements, I wouldn't foresee this as a problem.

Good luck :)
