Yippee!! I'm so happy.
Spent the whole weekend checking & re-checking all the info I had was correct.
Now just have to pray that all of it is ok.
It will get there tomorrow by 3pm.

Thanks to all you for your help.
I really appreciate it.

uk2usa,

Best of luck!

Oh - make sure to change your 'status' from AOS to ROC (I just realized that for myself).

I'm irritated now - somehow my post got posted several times, before I was even done with it. I tried to edit it, with no luck. And I can't remove the extra posts. mad.gif

Anyway, I was trying to finish it....

the newsletter stated that my son took his stepfather in to meet the class, that he was from Morocco, etc.

Other things from the kids - a bookmark my youngest made for her stepdad for Father's Day, quite a few journal entries that my son wrote to his stepfather (some also to his other parents/step-parents), a picture my son had to draw of "the people I live with" (everyone was labelled), and a holiday paper from my daughter - she had to circle the holidays her family celebrated. She circled "Christmas", and put her name next to it, and circled "Ramadan" and put her stepfather's name next to that.

Of course, we also added all the things we had from the list, as well - the check, cover letter, I-751 form, front and back of 'green card', drivers licenses and updates (showing the same address), social security cards, letters from USCIS, lease for when we rented, AR-11 and I-865, postal service change of address confirmation, deed to the house we bought together, 2007 tax transcript, 2008 tax return and W-2s, things mailed to us from IRS including the stimulus check and the back page of the 1040 booklet showing both our names, letters confirming that we are beneficiaries on each other's life insurance and retirement accounts, car title, car ins, car registration, copies of joint credit cards, joint memberships, bills from every few months since we got married, bank statement for joint accounts since we got married, email from Royal Air Maroc confirming our flight, and passport pages showing our stamps from our trip.

Yikes - I hope the computer doesn't give me any more problems.

So, now that it's been sent and received, back to the waiting, once again.....

Well, we finally got the packet out (260 pages) on Friday, and saw on the USPS website that it was delivered this afternoon - YAY!

I'm looking through the packet again to see if there was anything else of interest we added.... (things not specifically mentioned on the list of required/recommended items)

our Power of Attorney forms, signed and notarized, naming each other
ledger of dental treatment for both of us (names and address on there)
sewer rent and real estate tax bills
a bill sent to my husband from when he took my daughter to the emergency room last year
copy of a postcard we sent to the children when we went to Morocco
the form we sent to the post office to hold our mail while we were gone
the two articles from when we were in the paper (yeah, I mentioned them before, but I'm so excited about them) - oh, they
both mentioned about our being married, and living in our city with the children, etc. and showed a picture of the two of us
pictures showing us at a picnic, the 5 of us (taken 'professionally'), putting up the Christmas tree, our wedding, pictures from
the event that was featured in the one newspaper article, Halloween, playing in the backyard, at the zoo, at a funeral,
at my sister's wedding, the kids wearing their Moroccan shirts, lots of ones of us smiling or kissing, ona quadrunner together,

Hi Everyone!

What an interesting I-751 post topic, indeed! It's interesting to read all about your "unique" joint evidences that you sent with your I-751 application.

Thanks for starting this "entertaining" thread, Venusfire503.

I agree, this personal evidence provides a more "human" side to the story, and as such seems more "genuine and loving" to me....

Evidence-wise, this is a general list of what I sent with my I-751 as "joint evidence", in August 2008, which you can read about on this former VJ message thread here:
http://www.visajourn...h...c=118868

From that general list, my "cute, funny, unusual, unique, etc. I-751 joint evidence" are as follows:
-Miscarriage notes (well, at least we tried before even though it didn't work out then, I would have submitted the ultrasound photos for those pregnancies too, but found that too personal here...)
-Information explaining non-filing of income taxes (if we both legally don't have to pay taxes, then why should we?, and thus have to explain of such in great detail, with additional evidence about it too)
-Home renovation receipts (we would have sent in 'the actual bathroom sink and floor tiles', but it was too big, so I sent in the receipts for the bathroom repair bills instead...)
-Joint events: Bryan Adams concert tickets (lol...ok, I admit I'm a fan of his, especially being Canadian), Buffalo Bills Football Training Camp tickets and Buffalo Bisons Baseball tickets (lol..ok, my husband is a fan of these sports, be it that they are local teams here in NYS that he enjoys)
-Junk mail: Baby diapers and formula sample products and coupons (I need the actual products for the baby, so I just sent in the copies of the envelopes and coupons instead), Solicitations for baby catalogues and insurance policies (and no, I never bought from any of those companies), Arts and crafts catalogue covers (I got them in both names and delivered to my house because I was teaching sunday school at the time, even though my husband doesn't teach), Church flyers, YMCA 1 week free trial memberships (which we never used, as I was sick with the flu that week), Postcard from the dental clinic to remind us of our appointments (lol...funny, that local clinic closed down recently),
-Photos (ok, not too unusual there, but it makes me smile every time I see them... smile.gif ..different locations, different seasons, different occasions...shows a 'variety' in our lives for many years)

It's too bad that I didn't send in evidence of my current pregnancy, as I was pregnant after I sent in my I-751 application. I figured that they were incompentent enough as it is, and to update them with more evidence while my case is processing would just confuse them even more, so I just left them with the evidence that I had already sent. However, if they ask for such, I will happily send them more information about that too....

Meanwhile, I'm still gathering evidence for my N-400 case coming up soon (in August 2009), and believe me, "I've got even more 'unusual' evidence up my sleve!"

Now, if only they can approve my I-751 case asap, with all this "unique" additional evidence!!!

I hope you all were "entertained" with my "unique list of I-751 joint evidence". Now it's your turn...What "unique I-751 evidence" that you have?

Lesson learned: Send in anything and everything that is "joint evidence", regardless of how "unique" it may be. You never know, as this additional evidence may help in approving your case. (lol..or at least it give the immigration officials with the idea of someone "human" to think about). After all, we are not just "case numbers and paper files" right? We are more "human" than that!... good.gif

Ant (Still waiting for I-751, Still waiting for Baby...)

Thank you blush.gif - I'm so happy when someone enjoys my posts.

You have interesting posts - the kind I read to my husband since he's not as into VJ.

I was sad to read about your miscarriage. It's a hard thing to go through. Having things work out later helps, but it's still heartbreaking. Mine was about 10 years ago. I had two babies after that - and they both adore their stepfather.

I would love to find myself pregnant after sending my I-751 package...

Oh, more stuff to send - I found a binder my son had in a previous school year. He had to write letters to his parent(s), and the first one he wrote was to my husband. It's really cute! He's written several to him over the past few years. One was a "sorry for..." letter (my son is a sweetheart, but he likes to 'push it' sometimes). I also have several pictures from my little one - she draws pictures for us, and labels them as "from" and "to". I love how she's still learning how to spell, so we get some really funny things sometimes.

I have a picture of her also sitting on my husband's shoulders while he plays Wii (the racing one - I don't have to worry about her falling off!). I have an adorable one of her kissing his cheek, too.

I sent in a handmade anniversary card my daughter made. I also sent in a letter my father-in-law mailed to us when our daughter was born telling us how happy he was with the addition to the family. I also sent in a letter my sister-in-law in England sent me that discusses the planning of the large Christening party my husband and I planned and threw in England for family and friends. I'm sure the financial items play a large role- but showing that you have an emotional LIFE together is also important. These little things prove the true love commitment. Anyone can open a joint checking account for a few years and file taxes together...but a child's innocent writing about a step-parent, the process of a family Christening, the pleasure a grandparent has in the birth of a child and other sorts of emotional photos/letters/etc prove a true and real commitment. If they aren't looking for those sorts of items, the whole process is just a bogus financial exercise that can be faked by anyone.

Those sounds like nice things you sent.

I agree! When I first went to college, my dad put me on his checking account. I have custodial accounts for my nieces and nephews, which have my name on there with theirs. As far as listing each other as beneficiary for life insurance or retirement accounts - I can go online and change that in an instant. So what would stop me, if I was commiting visa fraud, from putting my husband's name on there, getting proof of it, and then changing it to someone else's name? Different companies and agencies can screw things up. I was very surprised when checking my credit report to find out that (you're probably not going to believe this - I sure didn't) my name was erroneously listed as an authorized user on my ex-husband's girlfriend's credit card! We were all quite surprised by that one. Oh, and my sister is an authorized user on my credit card, too. So... anything financial OR 'social' could potentially be faked. That's why I believe that sending in BOTH types of things makes for the STRONGEST case. And with USCIS, why take the chance? It doesn't hurt to send extra stuff, as we all know. And I still believe that making one of them smile a little can help. I know when I was a receptionist, I was bored with answering phones. When someone was actually NICE to me, I was much more willing to help them out.

Either way, I like hearing about the interesting things that people send in.

I was just about ready to send my I-751 and was racking my brain, trying to think of any other evidence I could include. I thought of our 2 car accidents. Neither one was our fault. The first one I was driving and the other was about a year later and Hachemi was driving. Anyway the accident report showed that we were together in the car. I copied both of the accident reports and threw those in there too. good.gif

I guess some people entirely missed the point of my post, even though it specifically stated that this thread's intent was to add a little entertainment to an otherwise stressful and monotonous process.

I think that it's important to be serious, but at the same time, we all need to relax a little, too.

QUOTE (Usher @ Apr 11 2009, 07:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
To be brutally honest, they don't give a damn. They need to see joint tax filing and joint money accounts. Life insurance, health insurance, bank accounts and the like. To them, any two strangers can pose together for pictures, but it takes a lot of faith and trust to share financial burdens, privileges and liabilities. All I sent was financial stuff, most importantly - joint tax filings, and I got approved last week. No RFE, no interview, just a simple approval.

With that said, if it makes you feel better, send the cute stuff along. Just make sure you give them what they need first, they want to know that you're taking this as seriously as they are.

How do you know they "don't give a damn"? I imagine when they see that my son drew a picture (including names in his handwriting) in school of "who I live with", and it includes my husband, that adds a little more proof that we're living together. The newspaper articles with pictures of the two of us, also with captions of who we are, also shows that we spend time together. Yes, the financial (and 'social') stuff is important - and we have the deed to our house that we bought together, a car title, tax returns, utility bills, credit cards, drivers licenses, life insurance, retirement accounts, the trip to Morocco, pictures of us together at (no joke) both a wedding and a funeral, cards and letters from friends/family and businesses, etc. But remember that there are (despite jokes to the contrary) actual humans opening and inspecting these packets. They are the ones who get to decide whether or not to send an RFE (and maybe pick us for an interview or flag us for suspected fraud), and we all know that mood influences their decisions. Backing a strong case with cute evidence (like pictures of people with cookies in their mouths) can possibly make the difference. Some people get approved with much less, some people get RFEs and can't figure out why because they sent everything on the list. You just never know. The more you send, the less you stress while waiting, I think.

And in my case, my kids are excited that their school papers, drawings, etc. are being copied and sent. You can't put a price on that.

If nothing else, it makes us and them (at USCIS) smile a little.

Congratulations on your approval.

Hey there I just wanted to ask what newspaper articles were you two in? That is very unique.. besides all the other stuff your son writes about. Nice stuff!

Thanks!

Well, the elementary school two of my children were attending last year was having an "International Week" celebration. They picked Morocco as one of the countries, and we were given an entire room to decorate. It happened to be about 2 weeks after we went to visit his family. Since we had just bought a house, we already wanted to buy things to decorate at home. We left everything packed to take to the school, and didn't even decorate our home until after we brought everything back from the school. We ended up taking a bed and a couch from home to the school, and decorated with the things from Morocco - an area rug, sheets, blankets, curtains, pillows, etc. We also had access to several fold out tables. We covered them with all the other Moroccan things we had 'collected' - shoes, purses, wooden items, etc. I'm going to try to figure out how to post some of the pictures for everyone to see. Anyway, the local paper sent a reporter and photographer, and they put a full page article about the displays. They included a picture of him holding my hand up to show everyone my henna. I was wearing a Moroccan outfit, too. Later, my husband contacted the reporter and said he'd love to tell his story about coming here, and she thought it would be a good idea. We ended up being "Reader of the Week", complete with quotes and my favorite picture of the two of us. It was subtitled "finding love in a distant land". It ended up being a story about how we met, and a brief glimpse into what was involved in the immigration process. We were really happy with the way the article turned out. Both articles mention that he is stepfather to my children. We figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to include that in our packet. Not only is it kind of like an affidavit, it also has a picture of the two of us together (kind of lends credence to our other pictures - that they are actually us).

Another thing - when the students who saw our display see us now, they say "hi Morocco". We also had a few people mention that they recognized us from the other article.

I hope this all makes sense. I was up late working on my taxes, and then up early with my kids...

Thanks for adding your posts. I'm enjoying reading them. It's been a rough day (not as rough as for some others, I know), and I needed some things to make me smile. (nothing major - just one of those days when everything hits me and I find myself crying sometimes and sad all day)

I hope others join in. I'm sure over the years there have been some pretty interesting things sent to USCIS. I'd love to hear from them about the weirdest things they've seen in packets!

Thank you!

Yes, my son is a little cuddle bug. My youngest, too, but she's too young to write much yet! I'd love to take them both to the interview if we get one. They both adore their stepfather. They cuddle with him - I have plenty of pictures of them playing together, reading together, watching tv together, etc. (you know, all those ones I took so I'm not in them - haha) My youngest loves to crawl up on his shoulders whenever he sits down, and my son tells everyone that his stepfather is his FAVORITE person in the world (I think I'm second - oh well!) Even my oldest daughter seems to be getting along with him again. That's all such a relief.

Thank you!

Oh, I will probably be a posting fool for a while now...

I just remembered about making copies. I think I forgot to make copies of the things I sent in for AOS. I still had the stuff, but it wasn't a nice, neat, organized, already put together packet like I did for the visa.

Also, I am realizing that I have very few pictures of me and my husband together. I'm almost always the one taking the pictures. I have tons of pictures of him with the children, but I'm rarely in them. I know we have some, I'll just have to spend more time looking.

Oh well

Ok, as you can tell by my sudden increase in posts, we're in the middle of preparing our I-751 packet to send. This is a stressful, yet boring, process. I came across some things I had set aside in my ROC folder (I forgot about some of them), and thought it would be fun to have everyone list uncommon things we have or will send with our packet. Things not mentioned in the checklist of recommended items.

I found a cute cinquain-style poem my son wrote about my husband 2 years ago at school, a school paper where my son wrote that he was happy his stepfather is here, a zoo membership receipt, a hospital bill from when my sweetie first got here (all the utilities and such were only in my name until we moved), newspaper articles featuring the 2 of us, and a newsletter from my son's classroom mentioning that he took his stepfather in as a kind of "show and tell". Geez, if we get called for an interview, I should just take my son along!

Oh, and to tell a little about the poem - my son started with "nice. kind.", then wrote things like "takes alot of showers". laughing.gif

ah, memories

We sent ours USPS Priority Mail (certified, return receipt) on Friday, and it was delivered there on Monday. Less expensive than Express ($13.05 instead of $35.95), almost as fast (just as fast for us, since I don't think Express can be delivered there on a Saturday), and you can still track it online.

I put the most "powerfull" documents and evidence at the front. Trust, adoption decree, will, joint tax transcripts, joint bank and credit card accounts, life and medical insurance etc. Followed by pictures, affidavits from friends, letters address to both of us etc.
It's all important but I figured the person checking the petition may make a positive decision in the first few "powerfull" pages and not bother with the rest as we had a LOT.

Same here. We also put what we thought was the most important evidence first (proof of joint bank accounts, IRS tax transcripts, joint health and dental insurance, joint lease, joint car title etc) and finished with secondary evidence such as a couple of affidavits, pictures and boarding passes from trips that we've taken together.

Oh, we absolutely did that, too. The important things at the front, the pictures and stuff in the middle, and copies of letters, emails, etc at the back. The whole first impression thing, of course.

Best of luck to all!

No wonder it takes them so long to process applications. Hundreds of sheets of paper?? whistling.gif

I sent in the important things, reduced to the max, and about 30-40 pages.

Martinmd,

Well, I imagine if they look through a packet where things have been forgotten, then they spend time to send an RFE, receive the RFE packet, find the original submission and add the RFE papers, then look it over a second time, it could actually slow the process for everyone (not just that couple) even more. I don't know that they would sit there and read through hundreds of pages. I imagine they flip through and just check for things like the fact that the bills spanned the entire time frame, things like that. My son was curious what we were sending when he saw that big pile of papers, so I showed him - just flipped through the tabbed sections, and said "here's our drivers licenses, here's the deed for the house, here are pictures we took..." etc. I did it kind of in detail (he's a curious kid) and it took about 10 minutes. I'm sure they look at some things for a little longer, but it's probably like it was for the visa interview. My SO took several thick binders, and they just sort of scanned through to see the gist of what was in there. I think when they saw that we had a whole binder of pictures, and they scanned through, they were happy enough. I agree with others who say it's most important to be organized, and show things over time. I think presentation is almost as important as substance.

Just my take on things.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751: What is the average number of pages sent in application?
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ May 4 2009, 06:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We had over 300 pages to show evidence of 4 years of marriage. 150 should be fine. Make sure that your evidence covers all the years of your marriage. Good luck.

Kathryn41,

YAY - so this means I wasn't being ridiculous, I guess.

We sent 260 pages...... blush.gif

I guess I over-do things sometimes. I just kept thinking of more things to send....

Oh, and we used one of those tyvek envelopes. I checked the USCIS website, and it seems they prefer you use the ACCO fasteners, as well as tabs on the bottom of the pages to separate the 'sections'.

Good luck!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionseparation or divorce during I-751 process
Also, please do not move this to the "Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigrant Benefits" forum, because it is specific to the I-751 process.

I will note though that anyone who needs information should probably check that forum as well. I just think maybe it would help to have it separate from all other information for other "family changes" and "benefits".

Thanks!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionseparation or divorce during I-751 process
I've noticed, while reading the Removing Conditions forum, that quite a few people have questions about what to do if they separate or divorce after filing the I-751 but before a decision is made by USCIS. It seems there might be more of a problem now that some are waiting much longer than before - even more than a year! It's one of those areas that seem confusing to the people in that situation, and I was just reading the following thread, which contained some really good, clear, information. Some of it is rather new, too:

http://www.visajourn...h...195397&st=0

One person posted this link, which looks helpful: http://srwlawyers.co...1-Petition.aspx

We just filed our I-751, and things with my husband seem good. I hope to never need this information, just as I'm sure no one does! Unfortunately, it IS information that some need. I think when someone is in that already difficult situation, it would be very helpful to have an easily accessible place to get answers. Can we please have this thread pinned, and anyone with information can add to it?

Thank you for considering my request.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionchange of address
QUOTE (smallcan999 @ May 11 2009, 01:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi,

We are getting ready to send in our 751 to remove conditions...I just saw someone say that the USC must also do a change of address when we moved. I am the USC but did not know I needed to do that so we did not...We completed the change of address for my husband but not me. Now what do I do and is this a show stopper for the remving of conditions?

Thanks,

Sheila

Sheila,

I don't think it will matter, but I'll let you know. I did the same thing when we moved more than a year ago - sent in his form, but not mine. When I was getting the I-751 paperwork ready, I saw a post that mentioned it. I sent out the form that day (return receipt) with a cover letter explaining that I didn't realize I was supposed to send it in until then, and I apologized (figured it wouldn't hurt to be nice). From the instructions, it seems the worst that could happen is you could get fined, but it sounds like that would only happen if you did it so your husband could get means-tested benefits. In other words, if you did it on purpose, and he got some kind of welfare. In that case, you'd have to pay it back anyway, even if you did file a change of address. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I doubt it would even get you an RFE unless you failed to file it at all. Oh, I made sure to include a copy of the cover letter, the filled in I-865, and a photocopy of the mailing receipt with the I-751 packet. I might even have added a screen print of the USPS tracking site showing it really was mailed to them. I ended up sending the I-751 the next day - May 1. I haven't heard anything about it either way, just got my return receipt.

Let's both keep our fingers crossed!

Best of luck!

QUOTE (mozplay @ May 28 2009, 05:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I would wait too. It's only a month and then you can send your app. in once you have a new address where you are moving to. Spend the time now putting everything together so that you don't have to worry about it during your move. Lord alone knows it will be hard enough to find anything with everything in boxes.

I agree! That's a great idea.

I think the OP could also send in the change of address form before moving, once the new address is known. If the move is 100% definite (lease signed or whatever), send the I-751 packet a few days or so before the move - just put the new address on all of the paperwork. Gets things processing a little sooner, plus eliminates the possibility of losing the paperwork during the move. If the copies are misplaced, not as much of a problem - they can be unpacked later.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiontax transcripts
I sent the I-751 packet with 2007 transcripts and 2008 return. I want to get the 2008 transcripts in case of RFE (or later for N-400), so I sent the request form the beginning of May - almost 3 weeks after I filed my return. I was very excited when the envelope came a few weeks later, but when I opened it, it said "no record of return filed". I guess it takes a while before they're entered into the system.

I'll need to send another request, but want to wait until I can actually get the transcripts instead of getting another "no record" letter. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the transcripts to actually be available? It would be especially great to hear from someone who filed mid-April, and got their transcripts since then.

Thanks!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionquestion about biometrics
I was just wondering if biometrics are normally mentioned on the website updates. I checked my husband's case online, and the only thing mentioned is "application received". Nothing about the biometrics - and he went in mid June. I just want to make sure his information wasn't lost or whatever. I can't remember if it was mentioned when he got his conditional card.

Thanks!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPermanent Resident Card expired in 2002
I'm not saying this will solve your problem, but I recommend getting a letter (maybe even copies of your medical records) from your doctor stating the extent of your disability. If you can show that you were entirely dependent on your wife, and unable to file the paperwork on your own, there's a chance (not sure how big or small) that you can use that for some kind of waiver or an appeal or something. Again, I don't know if it will work or not - just brainstorming for ideas.

It's not good for a parent and child to be separated. It sounds like you just want to chance to visit once in a while. I hope you are able to find a way to do so.

Best of luck.

Good luck with that idea. They wont tell you nothing.

i am sure but at least they should be able to tell me if it was mailed. BUt on one year extension says can not access status online til get ASC appointment notice. I am thinking they did not send it yet.
Darlene

One reason you can't access it online until you get your ASC appointment notice is that the appt notice has the number you need to input (it's not the same as the one on the extension letter). I was getting frustrated that I couldn't access the status online because I didn't realize that.

Good luck!

Hi everyone. My husband was just approved for 2 year green card.I am just learning about how to remove the conditions.I cant believe we have to do it all again? fingerprints, interview, money, proof of marriage?????WE just had an adjustment of status interview and fingerprints,do we have to do it again? are there more fbi checks? Does the nightmare ever end? wacko.gif

You will have to do alot of it again. The best thing is, at least you're more familiar with the process. Make sure to keep saving things for proof. I've heard of a few people who wrote in a panic because they didn't keep things, and were wondering how to gather everything up at the last minute. Make sure to keep taking pictures of the two of you together, saving letters/invitations or whatever addressed to both of you - things like that.

The nightmare mostly ends once you get the 10 year card. After that, it sounds to me like just submitting a form and money every ten years. Or you can make it stop with citizenship!

Good luck
