Unfortunately, our NOA had a typo in the address.
I called to correct it today. They were pretty nice on the phone.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresvaccinations

I asked my husband about his school asking for immunization records and he said that there is no required vaccines to have to enroll into school.. Can you believe that?!!! 0_0 :bonk: :wacko: El Salvador is slowly burning down to the ground... I gotta get him out of there... lol


Make sure you keep a copy of the inmunizations that he gets, you may need them later, USCIS got my medical records from El Salvador lost and those "approved" doctors don't give you copies, I had to go to another "approved" doctor to get another physical and if I had not have copies of my vaccination records I would have had to take them again. They are also useful when you get him enrolled in your medical insurance.

if you have a green card then yes you can travel to india,be sure to buy the airline tickets in the same name it needs to match with your passport and green card name,it may be a good idea while your in india to get a new updated india passport since it will expire may 2012. ,because you won't be able travel again until you become a us citizen us passport 3 years later.coming back to the poe use your green card, or if madien name bring a copy of your marriage certificate for insurance, have a nice trip.

You should be fine with the GC and passport.

When flying to India, the airline will want to see both the passport and GC prior to boarding.

In India, you will use your Indian passport to enter. When you leave India, you will need to show your passport again as well as your GC.

When you enter the US, you will enter on your GC.

No other paperwork is needed.

Hello VJ members,

I have a dumb question, hope I can get some suggestions.

I am a Green Card holder (K1) & going to travel India in Jan 2012 just for 3 weeks. I have Indian Passport which is going to expire in May 2012. Is it OK with the states gov to renter into USA?

Also, is there any other document or step I need to take when I come back to states?

I am just affraid to having any trouble as I am leaving USA first time.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

me and my fiance were introduced to each other by our parents n then we started chatting for 2 months then we started talking on the phone for like once in 3 days for 2 months then we decided to meet n then she came to ind we met liked each other n decided to get engaged on july 21st .. then again we were talkin for 3 months on the phone for like 2-3 hrs everyday n almost 10-12hrs on the weekends .. n then we filed our k1 petition in november ..
my and her parents both live in the us .. my parents live in the us from last one yr . but our parents knew each other since 4 yrs .
so my question is getting introduced to each other by our parents is a good thing or a bad thing for our visa procedure ??

MAKE sure you keep all evidences & record of all those phone/chating records. As much records you have about your talking/meeting, its more helful in your interview. Try to gather pictures, letters & phone bills showing you called & talked that much long.

Hi Dakota, long time no see! The others have probably answered your question so I will just agree with them that so long as you file in the 90 day time frame that will be fine. It seems to have been taking about a month from filing on average to receive the NOA1 and getting the check cashed. The NOA1 acts as a 1 year extension to Perm Res card, so I would probably advise that you file at least one month before your card expires if you have a particularly picky employer.

So like many posts I have read on these boards, the new fees are troublesome to pay. So I guess I wanted to get some thoughts on the best way to pay the fees.

My wife (the USC) and I (GC Holder) will nto be able to afford to pay cash/check for it come january 01, the earliest date I can apply. How long can we wait for me to still be able to get the receipt with the year extension on it. I realize what I am asking, I'm not expecting an accurate number here. Just a ballpark. If we could wait till feburay when we have got our tax refund, then that would be good. Mine is the sole income for us at the moment, so my being out of work is our of the questions

Alternatively is there any way to pay for the fees by credit card?

For all previous USCIS application, I was ready weeks before it was time to file. My 90 day period has started and I haven't got everything ready yet (I plan to mail it within 2 days). Is Nebraska still experiencing receipt delays, the website says no, but I thought I would ask a more trustworth source. If I don't get a receipt in time, can I still work and if so, how do I prove that to my employer. My British passport expired and I'm not sure when I will be able to renew it. Normally we don't have this much financial trouble, but with Christmas, immigration and illness, stuff just adds up. Basically, I am asking is there a way to keep working without getting a stamp in passport should my reciept not come?

I have read at the embassy website to go trough that company. But on the ausländerforum I mentioned to you before the girl described that they were surprised that she didnt just wire it. Who knows... I hope so too that someone will tell us. Tomorrow I will send my paket 3 back to the embassy and then we shall see...

My husband went through Frankfurt for his K1. In your packet four you are going to receive this information. You will have to go to a bank and make the payment and they will stamp a specific receipt that you must bring to your interview with you! It is actually quite easy and convenient! :D Good Luck! Frankfurt is a great embassy!

Lot's of pictures, was redecorating my home for my wife and getting her suggestions, better yet, following her suggestions. Even purchased a new car for her, with photos as she couldn't bring her beloved car here. Was talking about this yesterday to my wife about those days, she kind of misses our 2-3 hour phone calls. Said, nothing stopping us from doing that now. Those were long days for both of us.

And I'm so angry with the system !! They say their is no time limit on AP. Why can't we protest to this and ask for a time cut off , for example 1 year for them to do what ever it is they do. I can not get it my head why it could take over that. Maybe I'm thick in the head. My husband has a cousin that came to US in July of "08" on a work visa , which only took around 2 months to get, after getting here he applied for his wife to come. And she made it here that Nov. He is not a US citizen nor a green card holder !!! Where are our rights !!!! We are US citizens. If US is worried about safety, how did they get here so quickly without being investigated ?

As far as drawing straight Social Security at retirement, I'm not sure about the alien drawing quarters from the USC if they have never worked. I'm sure they would draw survivors benefits if they have naturalized.

I do have a suspicion that all of this 'quarter counting' business goes down the drain if the alien naturalizes. I'm not sure it applies at all towards retirement benefits. The counting of quarters for aliens seems to come into play mostly for SSI, not retirement benefits. But I could sure be wrong on that count.

I also know that countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom have 'totalization' agreements with each other. What this means for the alien is that he/she may be able to receive credit for pension contributions in their home country towards US Social Security.

I ran into a friend of mine the other day who has worked at SS for ages. We started talking about this, and she said it is indeed complicated. The best way for anyone immigrant to know what they may be entitled to or are working towards would be to make an appointment with Senior Agent at your SS office.

Frankly I think it's a silly question. C'mon without ever meeting what other evidence could you possible show ?
Lets see , maybe letters or e mails but that's about it. Maybe I'm wrong in saying this , but if I were you NOTHING would have kept me from going there to meet him, before marring on the phone.
My guess is to why your getting upset with people's answers is, they are not positive answers or what you wanted to hear. And I'm sorry that their is no solution to your question. But ... You need to understand they are only trying to help you , and see no point of answering your question, when it wont get approved.

I have a couple of question's , I received approval notice Feb. 24,09 And that our case has been sent to NVC. The start of this month I was told to pay the affidavit of support along with processing fee. Which I have done. Question 1) Are their any more fee's, if so how much ? Question 2) What is the next step. And final question , does anyone know approximately how long before my husband's interview.

IT IS GOOD NEWS if they kept the passport.

USUALLY, a 2nd interview is MUCH tougher than the FIRST interview - so if they KEPT the passport, be relaxed.

Suggest you have your wife call DOS hotline in the morning, get a Human™, ask for case status.

Have her do that once a day, also ask if there is any AP.


DOS has been closed all week due to weather. Which means once they do open it will be
very difficult to get though. Try calling the embassy.

Ya know , that was the first thing I done , when I got home from work this morning. Was to look how your interview went ! Khan stop being so depressed , I don't think your wife wants an old man for a husband :unsure: , and this worrying your doing will make you one ! Be happy that he kept your passport. Anyway ... I tried to call DOS just abit ago , and it seems they are closed due to bad weather.

Sorry I can't be of much help on appealing a visa denial. But this I'm sure of your gonna need more evidence ( as Jim said). And your wife has got to get involved , you can't do the appeal ! Does your wife have an account on VJ ? If not ask her to open one as I'm sure their are people that can tell her on what she needs to do. She can also contact an attorney.

I am so sorry this happened to you. They gave you 2 interviews and kept your passport. You had every reason to believe that you would get your Visa. I will continue to pray for you and your wife but she needs to get back to Pakistan and spend some time with you. She has only spent 1 week in Pakistan during your whole relationship/marriage and that doesn't look good. She needs to be more involved in your case. She should have been calling DOS every week to check on your case but she wouldn't do that. If you are ever going to get your Visa she needs to take more interest in your case and stop saying her work keeps her too busy to come to Pakistan or to make phone calls.

We were asked at our interview to verify my son doesnt live with me and that i dont claim him on taxes or pay child support since he is now 18 per the law of NC. We have our final documents....they actually asked if we could get a clear statement as they dont understand the legaleze of the attorny documents....LOL well i gotta say it took me 3 months of reading it myself so i should have already thought of this but dropped the ball now paying for it..


can anybody tell me roughly how long it takes once those documents are received to get the final decision? They kept my husbands passport and issued a pink token for submitting the documents and told him to keep it as the visa will arrive and he will need it to obtain it from the local office. Also said we have no control over ap..you are on mandatory ap....but they never said...your approved bcos they have to verify my houshold size bcos if they include my son (which legally i dont)then i dont make enough...

any ideas would ease my mind a bit....thanks!!!!

Salam Ameena, I believe I know you from the group American and Pakistani couples. Anyhow as for your queation... If the embassy will allow, which I think they will, you can scan the papers and email it to the embassy. This will save ALOT of time. And from the sound of it he has been approved , but will have to go though AP , no telling how long that will take. Took my husband over a year. But ... From what I've seen his took longer than most. InShaAllah your hubby wont take as long !
