Philippinesto all of you with facebook accounts
I have a brother who refuses to get a FB account simply because he is a very private person.

My take on Security concerns:

There is a lot of news regarding security on social networking websites. A FB account holder gets to decide how much of anything they put on FB is accessible by others. There are default settings (not sure what they are) and you must be mindful when ever adding anything new (photo albums, applications, etc.) to change the settings from the default to your settings. Certainly, it can be a lot to manage (and for some, not worth the effort).

Personally, I restrict the access to photos, posts, notes, etc. to only people listed on my FB Friends list.
The only thing you can see about me is that I am male, my websites that I promote and my pic. That is it.

All too often I see people posting reactionary items about how FB has done this or done that and to go change your settings immediately. Too many times the thing that they are "warning" everyone about (usually to disable) is an item that I have set to only share with FB friends (not everyone, not Friends of Friends) so I don't have to change that setting.

Certainly, I have had more problems with financial institutions compromising my data (not online) than anything I have ever posted on a social networking site.

Lastly, it is a personal choice on whether to have an account or not. You should not have to defend your decision to anyone. Most (not all) of the profile pictures I have chosen to display on my FB profile have included my fiance. Certainly, one of my "evidence of relationship" that I submitted was a printed page of both of our FB profile pages that shows our relationship status, posts of amour on our walls to each other and out profile pics that include both of us on both profiles (reminder: only my profile pic is viewable if not already on my friends list). If managed correctly, your FB info is yours to keep.

Good luck to you both.

PhilippinesFor fun in this Forum (House Chores)
I am not a fan of cooking or starting the laundry. Dishes, trash and folding/puting away of laundry I am OK with.
I am hoping for a partner in crime on general lawn work. General cleaning with both plan on pitching in.

PhilippinesPurchasing PI Domestic Airline Tickets Online
Another bit of advise is to call the credit card company before hand and let them know you will be buying an airline ticket in another country with your card so they just don't reject it immediately.

I was able to buy online from Cebu Pacific only once. The other times I have had to send the money to May and have her purchase the tickets.

PhilippinesExpectations
One of the things May and I had discussed with getting the Filipino channels on TV. But the more she thought about it the more she thought it would slow her adjustment. She said she would like to have it in the future but for now just wanted to concentrate on being 100% "here".

PhilippinesWife wants to leave and go back home

It's very simple question. My wife wants to divorce me and go back home.Should we divorce before she go back home or can we do it even if she in Philippines?I just want know coz I know u cant divorce in Philippines.Would that effect the divorce process? She don't have a cond green card yet.If i divorce her here she wil be out of status i think and i don't want a forced deporatation.Just get the divorce and she catch her flight back home.

I guess it would depend upon the divorce laws in your state. When I got divorced the last time we had agreed on everything so we paid a service to prepare the legal documents and we filed it ourselves at the court. 90 days later we appeared before the judge. We were sworn in, stated we were in agreement and that we are satisfied with the details of the documents we submitted.

I bet if she prepared a letter, got it notorized, and filed it along with the divorce papers stating that she is in agreement to those proceedings then she could probably go home before the final decree is issued.

The above are just my thoughts and not meant to be legal advice.

Sorry that you guys are heading in this direction.

PhilippinesGreencard and Social Security Card
TStruck: We were not able to get an updated SS card with May's married name until after we received the EAD/Green card.

The person at the SS office (right or wrong) explained that we could apply before but that may cause confusion when filing for AOS (something about May's last name not matching immigration records if we do it manually). She stated to AOS process makes all the necessary name adjustments

They told us to come back after the EAD was received. We ended up getting the EAD and Green Card within 2 days of each other.

May ended up taking a training class and volunteering (to get her out of the house to meet people) until her EAD arrived. She was eventually hired by the place where she volunteered.

PhilippinesVisa Approval in Phil with out of Country Divorce but no Phil Annulment
We have been waiting for the court to rule on Recognition of Foreign Divorce (from Japan in 2006). Filed Jan 2009, last hearing was in Sept 2009. Still waiting on the judge's ruling.

Decided to attempt a tourist visa in Dec 2009 (we thought she might have a chance to qualify) to which the CO interviewer said no. However, the interviewer did tell her what Steve posted here. So we filed in Feb 2010.

Of course, now there may be a CFO wrinkle.

One can only hope the judge will finally rule prior to her packet getting to the USEM.

PhilippinesBest way to send $2000
Banks (for xoom), western union, money gram they all need two valid ID's.
1. Your Fiancé / Wife has a passport
2. She couldn't get a passport without valid ID's, correct?
3.then u can send the money to your wife/ fiancé (unless she is with you now)

If she has sibliing who is 18 or so and still in school surely he/she has a school ID and have them get a Postal ID ( takes an hour) for 250 pesos.
Does your wife/fiancé has a friend she trusts, with valid ID's?

Don't risk your money to thru unsure way.
Good luck!

PhilippinesChecked Baggage Fees
I have flown both Delta and Hawaiian Airlines internationally with 2 pieces of checked baggage and no fees.

When returning from the PI via the Detroit airport they make you grab all your bags (checked and carry on), go through Customs then place your checked luggage back onto a conveyor belt to be delivered to your connecting flight.

May & I are already married in the U.S. last year and want a church ceremony in the Philippines is 2012.
We have reported our marriage to the Philippine Consulate in Chicago.

PhilippinesSchool Documents?
Any non-U.S. diploma's, degrees will need to be evaluated to the standards of www.naces.org. there are several member agencies (We will be using (World Education Services).

My wife has a BA in Economics from a university in the Philippines. She is considering obtaining as AA in Physical Therapy Assisting. The school requires international students to get their high school diploma, college degrees and even individual classes certified for the purpose of recognition for U.S. equivalency.

Last I knew, schools didn't accept hand carried transcripts. I thought that had to be sent from the previous school to the next.

PhilippinesDid your first green card have your maiden or married name on it?
The name on the green card would be the same one you entered on form I-485 when you submitted the AOS packet. Since the marriage document acts as a legal name change we had entered her new married name on all forms. My wife's GC came was issued with her married name.

After we received the GC we went to Social Security office to update her name there.

Oh My Goodness! Page 4? It has been this long since someone has posted.

More than likely the reason is many of us are already with our special someone.

For May and I, we are down to our final 7 days apart. She had a fun sayanora party but ended up getting sick (prayers please).
Nothing serious, it is just making her feel miserable.

Still have some cleaning to do on my end. Doesn't help that I will be working 10 hour days this week.

Hooray!!

We are completely finsihed with the paperwork aspect of out K1 visa journey. From I-129 submission to the CFO Sticker. All we have to do now is wait the 32 days for May's flight (which will be more difficult than it sounds).

Thanks to all of those who have answered questions, asked questions I didn't but reaped the benefits of the answers, and those that gave words of encouragement and support.

P.S. At least we get a little rest before we start the whole cycle again for AOS. To quote an Elton John song,

 In the circle of life
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle, the circle of life

Her visa arrived yesterday. She goes to the DFA/CFO next week. All is running well.
