PhilippinesMedical today at St Luke's
I confirmed that our visa packet is in Manila now. Should be delivered to the USEM on Monday. I will call them my Wednesday evening to book for an interview in mid June (May wants an October wedding so this should timeline quite nicely.

Since I will be in the Philippines from 4/10 to 5/1, I will go with May to her medical done, probably the week of the 19th.

If I read the posts here correctly, we can just show up with our NOA2 and her passport (although we might have the letter from NVC by then as well).

I see all the people who have posted on this thread and it feels like I have been reading most of your posts for a very long time and now we are all going through the process at the same time as well.

Good luck one and all!

PhilippinesOne Step Closer!
Medical portion is completed. May won't get the immunizations yet (in June or pregnancy waiver). Just depends on how "lucky" we are during the next 2.5 weeks.

At May's medical examine on Monday the Dr asked to see her divorce document from Japan. She brought it with her Tuesday.

Can you imagine any scenerio in which the Dr. would need to be involved in that? I can't. I know the Philippines does not have divorce but COME ON! The doctor should stick to MEDICAL and leave the LEGAL to the bureaucrats.

Criminy!

We want to schedule her interview for June 18 (in planning for an Oct 22 wedding) but the embassy isn't scheduling June appointments until the end of April.

In the meantime, May and I are just enjoying being with each other during my April visit.

PhilippinesHawaiian civil ceremony ?
We thought about doing that when my niece lived in Honolulu. But our process has taken so long (1.5 years) that my niece has been transfered to San Diego, CA for work.

Now we are not. It would be a beautiful "destination" wedding without much added expense for the bride and groom. It is still a great idea!

Philippinesst lukes has passport. Need advice.
When May did her medical she was able to get her passport as we were planning on traveling during my April visit. The took a photo copy of it.

I hope (if St. Lukes has not forwarded everything to the USEM) that you could get it from them.

Those that frequent VJ are all in the same boat. We just deal with it. At least I get to see May via Skype everyday (or close to it), and text messages.

I couldn't imagine not seeing her for 16 months (ouch!).

Hopefully our time apart will end on July 31, 2010.

Have patience and good luck.

From the airport the Yellow cabs are the best.

Best rule of thumb - If cab driver won't use their meter then don't ride.

Thanks!!!!....yes it is weird having her here and not talking on the computer!!!....It took a while to get used to being able to touch each other every night instead of doing the "CAM" thing.....LMAO!!!

You could always remove a broke LCD from it's frame and hold up the frame when talking to her at home to slowly wean yourself off of PC communications.

Congrats on the wedding...blessings for your marriage.

PhilippinesHow did your fiance propose to you in the Philippines?
On my first visit to see May (in August 2008)I already knew I was going to ask her to marry me. I was fairly confident that she would say yes. I decided to keep this proposal very simple.

It was on my 3rd day there. We woke up in the morning and starting talking (honest, just talking) about beening together and how happy we were. While she got up for a moment to use the restroom I pulled the ring box out of my luggage and got back in bed. When she returned, I asked her "Will you be with me, my whole life?" She said "yes!"

Now flash forward 19 months, May starts to tease me that I never really asked her to marry me. She kept saying, "you never used the words, will you marry me?" I told her to be careful because if she were serious about that I would have NO PROBLEM using those words to propose again but this time which would do it in a most public fashion (and possibly cause embarrassment). She would still occasionally tease me.

During the first week of my visit in April 2010, I asked May for a favor. I asked if she would do something for me when I asked her to do it (all the while not knowing what it was) She reluctantly agree. The 3rd week of my visit May threw a very big birthday party for her father who turned 80. I decided not to do it that day as I wanted May's father to have his special day. He told me this was the first birthday party he ever had.

The very next day many of May's family and neighbors were hanging out at their house enjoying the Karaoke machine they rented (by the way, May is an amazing singer). There were probably about 30 people or so at the house. After an hour of singing, eating and drinking it was my turn to sing. With the microphone in my hand and her parents in sight, I paused the karaoke machine. I turned to May and said, "before I sing this song I just want to say May...I am calling in that favor I asked of you 2 weeks ago. Since I still don't know enough Tagalog, I want you to translate everything that I say." After pulling her face out of her hands she agreed. I began telling everyone how May had been teasing me for over a month that I had not really asked her to marry me because I didn't use those specific words. It was a little difficult for her to translate only because she was crying but to her credit she was a woman of her word. I then dropped to one knee, took her hand and used the specific words of "May, my love, will you marry me?" I thought she was crying before but this time the tears were really coming down now (and her face was buried again in her hands).

Of course she accepted (again). As I helped her wipe the tears (of joy) from her face she did what every loving, caring fiance would do in this situation for making the proposal in such a public and attention getting way.....she hit me on the arm.

May I love you so much!!

PhilippinesOur day has come!

Thanks everyone!!

She is just trying to get used to the time change now. I always hate that...going back in time especially when the time difference is so great (16 hours here).

Those previous hours were without you together so they are worth living over.

Congrats on your reunion and God bless!

PhilippinesMy wife's pregnant....could we have the baby in Cebu?
When I first read the title of this topic, I wasn't thinking of cost as much as legal status.

If my fiance (soon to be wife) were to get pregnant (after our marriage in the US and completion of the first AOS), is there going to be any legal immigration issues with the child born back in the Philippines? Maybe this is just a silly question but I had the thought so figured I would ask/mention it here.

The only real thing I know for sure is that the child could never run for President in the U.S. if not born in the U.S. or on a U.S. military base hospital.

PhilippinesI NEED YOUR ADVICE..
My divorces (yes plural, don't ask) went smoothly. Shared a lawyer, agreed on everything. Next we filed our own paperwork, agreed on everything. As far as life changing events go...no drama, no mess. In reality, separating in this manner if highly unusual as most are drawn out messy events.

Even though those divorces were quite cordial, there is no way in H#LL I would ever leave an ex-wife on a bank checking/saving account.

There could be circumstances like the checking account is tied to another loan account at the bank in which both parties are still liable.

Good luck.

At May's interview they asked for a Cenomar (which she didn't have because she was married in the Philippines to a Japanese citizen and later divorced in Japan). She provided them with her Japanese Divorce decree and the Philippine Recognition of Foreign Divorce ruling. She was give her Visa.
