Asia: SouthGoing to the chapel and we're gonna get married...
Wow, just a week left and I am flying to marry my sweetheart of 2 years. I can't believe it. I am so excited because I know he is the right one for me. So sad because I will be the only one from my family and friends able to attend. I am nervous because this will essentially be my last chance to bring my husband over here. I am thankful to my boss because she offered to work with me in moving to India if push comes to shove which is how we met in the first place. I was over there for my job for 6 months.
I know we will have a few wedding celebrations, so I know my family and friends will get to eventually share in our love. It is just not how I have always planned. I know this is how God has planned, therefore, I must be satisfied. I am also thankful that his family is very receptive of me, and my future mother-in-law, and sister-in-law have made several shopping trips for gifts for me. My fiance has worked untiringly to make sure everything is arranged for my arrival (he has earned major brownie points wink.gif )
What did you all do for the difficulty of getting married without your family and friends? That is the hard part. My mom is not making it easy on me either, although I think she is better about it now that she believes I am actually coming back after I get married. But if he is still not allowed here, I will be with my husband. She likes him, I have even noticed that she has our picture in a frame good.gif

Asia: SouthSeeking tips for New Delhi Interview
QUOTE (Moksha @ Aug 3 2009, 08:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Rohini,
My husband (then fiance) and I went through the K-1 interview in Delhi back in March 2009. Just prior to our interview there were people that were having a very hard time with the Delhi consulate...lots of 221g's. So here's what we did.

We submitted every possible shred of evidence that we had for the 2 years we were together. Pictures, emails, phone logs, chat logs, letters from each of our parents saying that they knew about and agreed to our relationship, "Congrats on your engagement" cards from friends, the receipt for my ring, all of my plane ticket stubs, itineraries and copies of my passport with all of the stamps (I had lived over there for about a year for work plus traveled on my own 5 other times). Submit everything you can to VFS...if they give your fiance a hard time about taking all of it make sure your fiance insists. It's their job to take the paperwork, not decide what they want to take. Plus, you're paying them for it! Oh, and make sure it's submitted 7-10 business days prior to the interview (Holidays are excluded so don't count them).

As for the interview, I strongly recommend you get on a plane and be there. I flew back for my husband's interview not knowing if they would even let me in to the Consulate, but not only did they let me in...the interviewed me as well. They interview us each seperately (a little nerve-wracking because I wasn't expecting it) and basically asked us each the same questions and compared our answers. The questions were all about the time line and details of our relationship...very detailed questions about when we met, how we met, what we did each time I came there...what were the dates that I was there, what did we do on our first date, what did I order off the menu...stuff like that. If you want to PM me I'll give you the complete low-down. The interviewing officer actually told us that Delhi is a high fraud consulate so they take extra precautions.

Now, with all of that said, there have been plenty of people who have gotten their visas without the fiance/spouse being there, and there are some who swear that if they had known what they know now they would have gone for sure. It's kind of a toss up, but I wasn't willing to take that risk so I went, and still to this day believe that it helped 1000%!

I found through out this whole process that being prepared with too much info was better, especially when dealing with Delhi. If you have all of the proof of genuine relationship and are completley honest and sincere in your questions then you and your finace should be fine.

Like I said, PM if you have any questions or need any help!

Jen

to echo Jen good.gif

also, if you have your voter id card and voters list, and engagement ceremony info and a list of guests, catering receipts, etc, i highly recommend that you bring them. we did not. did not even have the info available. we were issued the 221g. could not produce what they asked for, and therefore our case was sent back to USCIS. good luck good.gif

Asia: SouthNew Delhi I-130 Closed and sent back to the USCIS
Right now you should start gathering additional evidence to rebut the consulate's findings. you will probably receive a notice to deny or revoke in the mail, and the normal time to respond is only 30 days. i would also advise making additional trips to visit india.

our case was sent back on december 29, 2008. we received notice that the case was with uscis on february 4, 2009.

sorry for the denial. trust me, i feel your pain rose.gif.

i have heard that you can. it is very easy for a usc to get inside of delhi embassy. i just showed my passport and walked in. i do know of one other person on here that was actually interviewed along with her fiance. imho, i say go, try to get in. the worst they can say is no. if they say no, give her your passport to let them know her husband is waiting outside if they want to talk to him. good luck on the interview good.gif

Kaushalia, it will be SO fun the two of you learning to cook together! laughing.gif my husband is scared that he will only get cold cereal and sandwiches. never had the opportunity to cook when i was there. in 2007, i stayed in a hotel for 6 months because it was company paid. then in february we went to manali for the majority of the time. then in may his mom and sister were in town and kicked me out of the kitchen, unless husband and i went out to eat. he told me he can cook, and when i mentioned that to his mom and sister, they laughed laughing.gif i have lived on my own since 2002, and i barely cook because i come from a big family, and do not know how to make smaller portions, and i got tired of eating left overs blink.gif so i have sworn to my husband that we will cook together, because that is what he wants.

Great you are learning Hindi, kaushalia! good.gif The best way to learn a language is to SPEAK it. I suggest first learning a few phrases and using them often around the house, every day. Then expand from there. That's how I learned Telugu while in India. yes.gif We still speak probably 70-80% Telugu at home, even though hubby wants me to speak more English with him so he will get more fluent. But I love speaking Telugu so much and don't want to forget the language! laughing.gif

laughing.gif the problem with just speaking it at home is i live alone. so no one to listen. of course, i haven't even opened the case. i remember some phrases from when i worked there, and everyone was so excited to teach me. of course hindi was combined with punjabi. and on top of that, my best friend's in-laws are cambodian, and try to teach me too. after awhile, all of the languages (hindi, punjabi, and kmai <- cambodian) all blend together rofl.gif

ok, so for over 2 years now, i have been asking my dear, sweet husband to teach me hindi. his reply has always been wait until i get to the usa because it will take up a lot of time. well, the issue is, my father in law speaks no english, and my mother in law speaks as much english as i do hindi. so he (husband) thought buying me a hindi book would help. well, it would if i knew how to pronounce what i was reading dry.gif .
anyways, i said all that to say this... i bought a pack of 3 hindi conversation cds from borders yesterday kicking.gif . i think it is best not to tell him although, occassionally, he does sign on to this account. it will be a surprise when i start speaking to him devil.gif

I'm a Bengali too so I don't know about the Karva Chaut rules. And I wouldn't take part in it unless there was a similar festival requiring husband's to fast for their wife's health and prosperity. Hey, I'm all for equality.

Lol. I decided to do it because my fiancee has prayed for me every Tuesday for 18 months now. I have been going through so much and I felt like this is something I wanted to do. I can't say I'm going to do it every year. I won't do it unless I feel led to just like this year. I grew up in a religion that believes in fasting and prayer and I had always heard that partaking in a fast like this could bring you closer to God. Now that I experienced the fast, I must say it was enlightening and I physically feel better after the fast. I don't feel like it was any kind of serious life altering experience, and I don't feel like I'm one with God. I did enjoy the experience.

QUOTE
my husband asked me after the fact if i was going to fast. so i looked into it, and discovered i wouldn't be able to eat until my husband feeds me. um... i don't think so. seeing as though, even if he got his visa earlier, i am not expecting him to get here until the end of january. i always wanted to be "thin" but i do not want to be anorexic maybe next year

No one needs that kind of diet lol. My fiancee won't be here until our visa gets approved and we work out the details, I'm not starving till then. I did a lot of research too and it seems that nothing in India is that serious and most of it is open to flexibility. So I didn't get all the gifts, fancy dinner, etc that my "husband" is supposed to do for me either.....but I did tell him he owes me on Valentines Day tongue.gif All kidding aside, I don't ask him for gifts. He got overly excited while I was fasting and went out and bought me some stuff, then exchanged it cause he didn't think it was good enough, then exchanged it again because he didn't like something else. So I would have to say, with all the excitement he had and the happiness this brought him, it made this fast more than worthwhile for me.

this is a tough question. how elaborate were your engagement photos? sometimes if they are too elaborate, india has been known to consider them marriage photos. in all honesty, you are only required to submit to uscis proof of you meeting within the last two years.
in my experience, for the k1, we did not do any front loading, but we were denied, because when the time came to show additional evidence, we had none. specifically, they wanted engagement party information.
now that we have filed for the cr1 (spouse) visa, we front-loaded like crazy. so again, it is a hard decision for a difficult embassy. good luck good.gif
