Looks like we are doing almost everything at the same time! Same anniversary date and applied for AOS around the same time too! Good luck with everything, I'm crossing my fingers for a speedy EAD!

:D

You too hehe..... I will be so glad when all this is over :) and yes definitely a speedy EAD AND AP .... planning a trip back in August.... fingers crossed

CanadaAoS fee question

All this time I thought the total was $1070.... but something just hit me.

Does this include the EAD if all mailed together or do we have to pay for the EAD as well

CanadaCan I do my interview in Toronto?

Thanks everyone smile.png that's what i thought would happen sad.png i've been hearing horror stories of their wait times! hypothetically speaking, if i WANTED to have my interview in Vancouver instead: 1) would that be a possibility 2) if so, do you think it would cut down the waiting time?

The wait time for Montreal is not what it used to be. I got my interview date within about a month and a half and had my passport back in 3 days as have a lot of people if you look at the consulate reviews and peoples timelines...

Jen and MikeyFemaleCanada2013-05-22 13:45:00
CanadaPassport photos

I need to get passport photos done for my K-1 visa, just want to confirm that I need to get 7 taken:

2 for packet 3 for Montreal

3 for medical

2 for interview

Correct?

Also- did everyone do them all at the same time? So you had 7 of the same picture?

Thanks!!

Yep that's what you need for this part, I didn't end up having to give any at the interview so I still had 2 left over so that helped for submitting with the AoS.

* I see Inky had the same comment :)

CanadaAdjustment of Status RFE

Your medical may have been lost / incomplete. Thats usually the most popular issue with AOS.

hmmm so if that is the case, how does one go about getting it to them? I don't have a copy... am I going to have to have another one?

I have my vaccinations... that's not an issue, I still have that portion.

CanadaAdjustment of Status RFE

Hello all, we just got a text saying they were sending us an RFE...

I know when we submitted our forms everything was included.... went over it several times....

I hate to be that person, but does anyone have any idea what they could be wanting?

The only thing I could think of is the Affidavit of support, but we submitted everything they could have wanted with that.

hmmm i know i'll have to wait for for the notice, but just curious to see if anyone has gotten one and what it was for?

CanadaGot our RFE today.... sigh

We had to send all that stuff in too and I guess we overwhelmed them (or they just approved us after our congressman stepped in). Very annoying!

thanks for the support all... I guess it's my own fault... it's the only time I didn't make copies of anything.... serves me right :-/

So we are in the process of waiting for the transcripts (again)... redoing all the paystubs and banking info and letter from employer etc...

Fingers crossed.

OH ... the letter also said that they were putting a hold on working on my ead while they wait for me to resubmit.... is that normal? They didn't say anything about the advance parole, but I'm hoping that isn't included, because we're planning on going to Canada for vacation in August.... and I'm hoping that it comes in the next few weeks...

haha my hubby keeps teasing that he's going to write a complaint about the waste of paper the government uses... and the endless amount of trees we've killed with all this paperwork

Jen and MikeyFemaleCanada2013-06-14 11:09:00
CanadaGot our RFE today.... sigh

No. They just said that I didn't submit anything with the affidavit of support.... So it's like they just threw it all away and said hey lets make their lives hell..... it also says they're postponing my ead because of it >< so not fun.

Also and I don't really know how I would document this to them..... but with the custody agreement with my hubby and his ex, he doesn't have to pay child support... so really it's only a 2 person household..... we pretty much just get the girls xmas, long weekends and summer because she moved 9 hours away with them..... don't know if that matters and like I said I have no idea how to tell them that

CanadaGot our RFE today.... sigh

It's so annoying. They're basically asking for every single thing we submitted for the affidavit of support.

We submitted his last 3 tax transcripts, a letter from his employer etc... and now they're saying we are below the 125% poverty guideline which is $29k for us  (he has 2 kids so that makes 4 person household) and he definitely makes over that....

So frustrating, annoying and aggravating!!!!

Anyone go through this?

And am I wrong? I'm looking at the pdf and it says $29,437

I don't know... maybe this is payback for everything else going smoothly..... arrrghhhh

Canadadouble checking EAD card = AP too?

I had been planning to visit Canada so when I saw EAD approved and initial review on AP I stressed about it endlessly hoping they hadn't forgotten.  It came to me as a combo card - EAD on the top and at the bottom it said 'also serves as Advance Parole I512' which we used for our planned travel to visit family.

In fact, to this day it still says initial review.  Kind of weird if you ask me but know that you're not alone!

As far as working while waiting I don't know about that one... someone else would be better to answer it.  It shouldn't take too long to arrive though.

thats good :) I don't really plan on working now anyway... was just curious.... though I will be anxiously waiting for the card to arrive since we've planning a trip to Canada on August 10..... nothing like cutting it close hehe

Canadadouble checking EAD card = AP too?

I just received an email saying that they ordered production on my ead card..... I'm just curious if that means that my Advance Parole is 100% attached to that, because it still says initial review.....

thought I read that they are attached to one another now?

fingers crossed that it is.

CanadaK1 Visa in Hand!
Congrats, that is awesome. When to you head south?

I am curious as to what you submitted for your police check that wasn't acceptable?

I've been kind of nervous about that...

All I have is a photocopy of the form I filled out with their findings that there was nothing and it was then embossed stamped.

it just seems too simple and i've always kind of thought it might be problematic

CanadaHotels in Montreal

I stayed at the Days Inn.... was a 10 min walk and on the same street as the Consulate. Payed $85 including taxes + 20 for parking.... Staff was really friendly... ended up having to stay an extra night because we got snowed in ><  Room was clean and I really can't complain about anything. Was perfect for what we needed.

Would have been awesome to have an interview there in the summer... that area seemed to be local to everything... I would have loved to walk down to the water and see the sites....

CanadaInterview Waver

Hello all, I just go a letter from USCIS today saying

"US Citizenship and Immigration Services has identified your application as a potential interview waiver case. This means that we may not need to interview you to complete your application. "

YAY

Is this common?

Oh and anyone going through the AoS step, the letter also stated that they are really behind right now saying that they're working on apps submitted 6 months ago... so just a heads up

I work at for the Marketplace.... here are a few important things for all to know... Instead of typing it all out, I'll just post some links.

Who can use the Marketplace

You have to be legally here. We will ask you for proof

Advance Premium Tax Credit

Keep in mind some states have their own Marketplaces/Exchanges. If your state does, it will show you where to go

Hope this helps  you out a lil bit.

CanadaAoS Approved.... YAY

Congrats!!!

I just filed last week, hope mine is as fast as yours - in total how long was the wait?

Thanks. I filed for AoS at the end of May and got an RFE for things I already sent them (in June/July - can't remember) and then got the notice a couple weeks ago that I was approved and that the card was in production.

I got an email that it was shipped out on Thursday. So I should have it this week hopefully.

For more accurate times, my timeline is updated with all of it...

I got mine approved in October and now have my greencard. I did send in an expedite request but from what I've been seeing a lot of people are getting approvals quickly, lately. Great news for everyone! I also, did not have an interview.

YAY... mine should be here soon... this week i'm hoping. Here's to not having interviews lol

CanadaUgh, I need a rant...

I didn't read all the replies, but when I was coming here I called Rogers (I know it's not Bell... but) I needed to cancel my cell contract. Because I was moving away to get married, they grant a no charge for canceling, because it's kind of out of your hands.

There service isn't where you're moving to, so they let it slide. Only thing that needed to be done is you had to prove that you were moving and getting married. ie Send a copy of marriage license or something that shows you that you've moved out of their service area.

If I were you I'd call them back and speak to their supervisors supervisor and see if something can be done like that.... you may also have gotten someone who really doesn't care... I've worked at a call center and there are plenty of people who don't care about the consumer and just want them off the phone.

CanadaPOE - Ambassador Bridge (Windsor/Detroit)
I poe'd yesterday and it was so easy.

The guy at the toll booth asked to see my passport, package and compliance letter for my car. He asked me a couple questions about my fiance who was in the truck behind me... a bit of a test, since he asked Mikey the same questions...

We pulled into the office area and went into the building. It seemed like it was full, but it went by quite fast, we were called up within maybe 10 mins. She asked for all my papers and package etc... it had been a while since she had done a K1 so she asked for a little assistance, but other than that she was thorough and quick.

While she was working on the K1 paperwork she asked me to fill out a form for my car. They had a master that I pretty much copied off unless it asked for my personal info.... address, car description, vin etc. One of the questions did ask what the value of the car is... I had no idea, so i guessed, but you may want to find out if you're importing.

She asked when we were getting married and wanted to make sure I was aware of the 90 days... she actually brought that up a few times.... apparently she's had and heard of a lot of people not following the protocol.

We went and sat for a little bit and she called me up to go over the 1-94 and talked to me about my car....

That was that... and we were on our way....

Overall i'd give them a 10/10... they were so friendly and we able to joke around.

9 hours later, driving through a snow storm and a monsoon rain storm, we made it home :D

CanadaProving domicile when not living in the U.S.
with 18 pages of posts... I really don't have the patience or the time to read through them all and from the brief scanning I've done it's all for cr1 so I'm sorry in advance :)

I'm going through the K1 and on the package 3 it does request this... since I obviously don't have my name on anything at this moment how do I provide evidence of domicile?

the only thing that I can think of is showing copies of his utilities, rental agreement etc...

now that i've typed this out, I feel like I've answered my own question... I guess I just want to make sure that this is correct so that I can get those copies...

thanks in advance

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsEarliest Date to Call About Notice of Action (NOA) 2 Status

Community,

I filed the K-1 petition (form I129-f) for my fiancée on 27 June 2012, which is over five months ago. My service center is Vermont (VSC). According to the Processing Times section of USCIS's My Case Status web site (https://egov.uscis.g...rd/ProcTimes.do), Vermont is taking 5.6 months to process K-1 petitions, while the national goal is 5.0 months. May I call customer service now, or do I need to wait until 5.6 months have passed? (This would put the wait time on the K-1 to just near Christmas.)

Thanks,
Roy

Ya just gotta keep waiting. We submitted June 1st and still haven't heard anything, but looking through the timelines linked above, it looks like they are starting to work on June.... slowly but surely we'll get it.....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about Visa's and marriage

Nope, entering the US to get married and stay is visa fraud if you enter as a tourist. Sorry, you cannot do it.

If the K-1 visa is for you then you can certainly visit while the visa process goes on, however you will have to have your medical and interview in Canada.

No work without authorization, a SSN is not authorization. You can work only with a employment authroization doc, green card or work visa, without these then no. you cannot work

Good luck

Thank you for the quick response :)

I really didn't think it was possible, guess it was just wishful thinking :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about Visa's and marriage
Hello all...

I am sure this has been asked before, but I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a definitive answer... so I apologize in advance and appreciate any responses.

I am a Canadian and am planning on marrying my American boyfriend.

I have been looking through all the visa's and I feel like the K-1 is the best route to go, but....

I've always wondered if it is possible to just go down for a "visit" and get married one weekend and stay permanently in the US while we file all the paperwork. Is that possible? is there a different visa for that or do they all require me to return to Canada and wait out the process.

I thought I read that you could stay before, but I can't seem to find the site I read it on and everything that I've been reading now seems to be the K-3 which sounds like I have to go back and stay in Canada.

And if it is possible for me to stay while all the paper work is being hammered out, would I be able to apply for a SSN so I can work right away?

I truly appreciate any answers to this... It will help us decide the route to go.

Thanks in advance

:)
