CanadaDeclaring engagement ring at border crossing

Wonderful news and congrats. E Harmony is the best! You must not have crossed at the Ambassador Bridge?

that's where I cross. I've never had a problem there, they've always been friendly :)

CanadaBorder Crossing question

Not a K-1 process / procedure. Moved to the Canada forums.

When they scan your passport they type information into your DHS files. US embassy has access to this but you are over thinking it.

ahhh i was gonna put it here.... but i wasn't sure.....

as for the over thinking it portion.... I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't bite me in the future...

CanadaBorder Crossing question
So I was thinking for the past couple days on if this will matter or if it will come back and eventually bite me in the butt.

I'm Canadian, my parents are also Canadian, but got transferred to KY 10 years ago for work. My fiance is also from KY. When I travel down there, I obviously always get the questions where are you going, etc etc. I always for the sake of not wanting issues at the border (had them in the past) tell the guard I'm going to see my parents and don't mention my now fiance. It's not really a lie, but it's not the whole truth.

So I'm wondering if when it comes time for my portion of the K1, will the embassy have notes from my passport saying that I have only visited my family... does that stuff show up on a passport scan? or should I start telling the whole truth just so it's documented?

I know it's silly and I'm sure I'm not the only one who becomes a nervous wreck crossing the border. Still after 10+ years of crossing the border religiously I still tremble at the idea hahaha

thanks in advance.

CanadaProof of meeting in last 2 years
Hello all....

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am in KY right now visiting my fiance and we are getting ready to submit.... I like CarolAnnandEddy don't have really anything but pictures. I actually thought about doing the "ransom" type picture with the newspaper as that really should work, but now I'm nervous.

I am not staying at a hotel so I don't have receipts, passport stamps or anything flight related as I drive too. I guess my question regarding the whole just buy something so you have a receipt has me concerned.... how do they know you made the purchase? Anyone could have. I withdrew money here, but stupidly didn't get a receipt with that and when I look at my banking info it just shows up as a bunch of letters.... nothing stating that I made a withdrawal in somerset ky...

I've read so many threads regarding this and it seems like it all depends on the person who is working on it at the service center and what kind of mood they are in.

So what should I do? go make a purchase and keep the receipt? with a printout of my bank statement? which will be off because of the currency conversion?

Canadayet another Evidence related question
thanks everyone.... I appreciate it all..... I just don't want an RFE ;)

I was reading that most if not all banks have a notary and even thought of writing up a letter and both of us going in so they can notarize a letter saying that we are in fact there in person..... along with any receipts I get in the next few days...

Sigh, why can't they just take our word for it hehe

Canadayet another Evidence related question
I hate to start yet another topic regarding this, but here it goes....

I posted this in someone else's thread, but it's gotten lost......I am in KY right now visiting my fiance and we are getting ready to submit.... I like other Canadians don't have really anything but pictures as proof. I actually thought about doing the "ransom" type picture with the newspaper and date as that really should work, but it seems like that isn't even enough.

I am not staying at a hotel so I don't have receipts, passport stamps or anything flight related as I drive. I guess my question regarding the whole just buy something so you have a receipt has me concerned.... how do they know I made the purchase? Anyone could have. I withdrew money here, but stupidly didn't get a receipt with that and when I look at my banking info it just shows up as a bunch of letters.... nothing stating that I made a withdrawal in somerset ky...

Someone had suggested phone bills with roaming charges..... I did go through and look at past bills.... I do have one from this past February that has roaming charges on it for brief convo's with my man..... it does state that I was making the call from Somerset, KY and his phone number..... will that help?

Again, I'm sorry for another topic on this. I just want to get my ducks in a row so we can get this out in the next day or 2.

Thanks

CanadaTN visa during k-1 process

Could try this forum: http://www.canuckabr...he-usa-vf4.html

Or just call up 1 of the POE and talk with an officer, may or may not help, lol but worth a try

thanks and i'm workin on the phone number now :)

Have you tried emailing the Montreal consulate? I would try them.

I honestly don't see how it is possible given that you have already expressed your immigrant intent by applying for a K1 visa and TN visa is one that comes with a non-immigrant intent. I've also always thought that you couldn't have more than 1 visa in the works.

I think it would be a lot better to turn down the job and wait until your K1 comes through and you have a work permit to consider a job. Sucks, but the reality is that you have immigrant intent and you're much better off in the long run going the K1 route if your intention is to live and work in the US long term/indefinitely and marry your fiance.

you've said what I've been thinking and knowing in the pit of my stomach.... just don't want to believe it hahaha I want my cake and I wanna eat it too ;)

CanadaTN visa during k-1 process
Anyone else? (thanks again Jenna)

I got another call this morning and he has offered me the job and I don't know what to do. I told him my situation and that I've been looking into it, but I really can't find anything on this situation except for one question answer site where one lawyer said no it's not possible and directly below it another lawyer said yes it's possible.....

Oh how my head is spinning. I just don't want to jeopardize my k1.....

please if anyone has any info, phone numbers, advice or idea..... I'd really appreciate it right now

CanadaTN visa during k-1 process
Hello all.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this.

We just sent in our k1 application and I just got called about a job I had applied for.

I am a graphic designer so I fit under nafta and the TN visa and just wondering if it's even possible to take a job like that during this process?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

CanadaApproved 5/29, waiting for passport to be returned...

...if I thought the past several months have been difficult, I was wrong. THIS is the hard part!

I am so anxious to have my passport/visa in my hands!

Congrats :)

I've only just begun (sent our application last week) and the whole "summer will go quick and before you know it Christmas will be here" thing seems like it won't apply this year.... so I can only imagine what those final days are like....

CanadaCourier Confirmation?

Hi all. People keep talking about courier confirmation that you have to bring to the interview. I signed up for DHL/Loomis after I got my packet 3 and the only "confirmation" I have is in the appointment email stating that my courier location is London, Ontario. Is this all I need or am I missing something? If I am, how do I get the something I am missing!

sorry i don't have an answer, but I'm in London Ontario :)

*Edit.... guess you did post on that sw ontario post ;)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NOA2 from September

hey people, I suggest this topic so we can have an idea about who has the NOa2 from September and still waiting for the NVC finally give us the case # ....I'm going crazy with this delay... But we need to trust that soon this will be done, so my NOA2 is from September 6th, and of course I am still waiting.... Anyone from September (CSC) already has good news from NVC? Also do you guys know if the consulate book the interviews based on the NOA2 date or NVC case number date?

Got our NOA 2 Sept 16 and as of Sept 27,2013 we already have a MNL case number, Oct 10 physical file has arrived at US Embassy Manila and we received a notification that we can go ahead and schedule an appointment. Oct 30 is my interview date.

United KingdomRecent interviewees - do you have your passport yet??

And now that I have rescheduled my flight for next week, at a cost of £286, my visa is issued in time for me to make my flight tomorrow. Had they allowed me to pick it up.

So, that's a full month extra that I've been away from my fiancee and children purely due to the embassy's administrative failures.

United KingdomRecent interviewees - do you have your passport yet??

After reading Matt's post a few pages ago, I attempted to make arrangements to pick up my passport from the Embassy instead of using the courier service, as my flight is in three days.

I was not permitted to do so, although I will certainly try again tomorrow.

(Also, the lady on the phone quite heavily implied that Matt was a big stinky liar-pants. Pleasant!)

United KingdomInterview Scheduled!!

This worries me, too, as I also applied before the DS-160 came into effect.

All the information I had read previously indicated that all the fees were paid on the day of  the interview, but that seems to have changed with the DS-160's introduction, and now I'm in this inbetween phase where I can't do it either way.

I'd be interested to see if anyone has any insight.

United KingdomToday I discovered that my interview date was the 30th of October

Little update: I called the switchboard again, and was a little more persistent at maintaining that I needed to speak to a relevant person, rather than emailing via the web form. The receptionist put me on hold, and I believe I was connected with someone in the visa department (it was never actually clarified). Regardless, they took my home and mobile numbers after telling me that I was in the system as a no-show, and I am waiting to hear back with a new interview date. They said they'd have to speak to a superviser who was unavailable at the time.

Consequently, my CEAC has been "updated" to today's date although the status remains at "Ready". My fiancee is going to phone the DoS when she is on her lunch break and find out what that update means, and whether I have been assigned a date already.

United KingdomToday I discovered that my interview date was the 30th of October

You are the victim of London's mystery notice letters that no one gets in time for their interview.  The only way to avoid this (before others share your same fate) is to call DOS every single time your file shows a DATE UPDATE (NOT a wording update -- it may always say "READY" -- but a change of the "updated" date) and ask what happened with your file the day before.  That is how I found out my interview date.

As to what you can do now, who knows.  Since they obviously had everything they need (and thus your assigned date), it's hard to see how a 160 form would help at this point.  That update system is not as helpful as the CEAC site you can already go to without a 160.  I think a very clear e-mail submittal direct to the Embassy (http://london.usemba...ntact_form.html) as to what happened and a polite request for a new date is your best shot, but that's just my guess.  Best to you.

I have no idea how my fiancee and I both missed London's legacy of late letters. We must've read reams of information on the process, and I don't recall coming across the suggestion anywhere. I figured, with an average of a month before interview, I'd be pretty safe. My current employment is very flexible, so I don't need much notice. I'm just kicking myself for not checking with the DoS anyway - we knew we could, we just didn't think it was necessary... until today.

And thanks, yeah, I've already sent a message on the contact form. I tried not to be too ascerbic. The online system with the DS-160 apparently allows you to book your own interview date, but I'm just not sure if it''d work in this situation, and if it's worth risking the potential for administrative nightmares.

SunscorchNot TellingUnited Kingdom2013-11-06 18:56:00
United KingdomToday I discovered that my interview date was the 30th of October

I did not recieve any correspondance from the London Embassy after I confirmed that my Medical had been submitted for my K-1 visa (with the doctors, not the embassy).

I was expecting a longer-than-usual wait, as the medical centre advised me that it may be up to six weeks before I heard back. Every other timeline I've looked at indicates that it should be around a week until getting the date confirmed, and a further month before the interview itself. So it was coming up to around three weeks since the centre had posted my forms, and I was getting a little antsy. Today was a day off from work, so after some fruitless google searches for a telephone number to call the actual embassy's visa dept, I went back to the CEAC website to check the progress. That informed me that the status was "Ready", but that was updated on the 30th of October. I figure I should have heard about my date by now, so after still more googling, I discover that I could call the Department of State in the US and find out exactly what's going on from them.

I'm currently running on a mobile-telephone-only set up, and very little money, so I get my fiancee to do it for me. When she sent me the text that told me I'd missed my interview, I felt like I'd been punched in the face. Now what?!

I've tried calling the switchboard at the embassy, but they referred me to the online contact form. I have submitted that with details about the situation, but I can't sit here and do nothing for five more days waiting for a reply. My application was submitted before the online DS-160 form was in use (my medical had some... significant delays due to my GP), so I can't access the site or phone service they've implemented that uses the DS-160 numbers to schedule an interview. My understanding is that that service doesn't cover the K-1 anyway, as it's not listed in the drop-down menu on the sign up page.

My fiancee wants me to complete a DS-160 now, even though all my forms are submitted, and use the number I get from completing that to access the online system. I am worried that doing this will complicate matters in the filing of my application and cause further delays.

I would really like some advice. Please.

United KingdomVisa/Courier payments with no DS-160

Ok, never mind. Apparently I screwed up when I was registering the account the first time.

United KingdomVisa/Courier payments with no DS-160

I didn't do a DS-160, but the online payment system worked fine for me. What is the problem with it?

You need a DS-160 number to register a visa application...

It also does not have the K1 visa in the list of visa types to choose from.

United KingdomVisa/Courier payments with no DS-160

Obviously, without the DS-160, I can't use the online payment system that the Embassy told me to use in the appointment letter that finally arrived.

I'm concerned that it will cause issues on the day, that I have not already paid for everything. I have sent a contact form email to the embassy to enquire, but since I had no replies to my previous two attempts, I am not optimistic. Can anyone confirm that they will still be processing payments the "old way" for those of us with no DS-160?

United KingdomI-134 and I-864... both needed?

For what it's worth, my fiance only completed the I-864, which I used in place of the I-134 at my interview. The person taking my forms was concerned, but the actual interviewer said it's not a problem.
