Wow Ellie, your time has come quickly!

I was still packing on the morning I left yes.gif ... I faffed about way too much deciding what to take and give away. My advice is to start early as something always crops up that you forgot about.

You must be so excited!

I AM FREAKING OUT!!!

I left all my goodbye's till the last week. I couldn't bare to say a tearful goodbye and then see someone in the supermarket two days later! I had my first set of goodbye's last night.....and it certainly makes it more real.

I have most of my clothes packed, my step dad works in shipping so he is sorting out a crate to be shipped to me. So there is basically just eating and drinking to be done!

I agree....it feels like it has come round so quickly. I get 2 weeks @ home with dave before he goes back to work....that will be lovely. Then real life kicks in.

How are you doing gemmie? How's "real life" treating you?

Howdy all! Been a way for quite a while I realise, been having a quick catch up read - congrats to all the approvals! - and now just reading about poor Gemmie's POE - but well done on getting it resolved ok! Do these visa worries ever end??!

I am making the leap on Wednesday! After finishing up at my job, clearing out my flat and spending time with friends and family, it's come round quick. I am very excited/nervous - you know the score! I have a direct flight and POE at Dulles, so fingers crossed it goes ok. Wedding's not until the end of August so I have a few weeks to get settled at least (and find a dress!)

I'm sure I'll be back on here again a tonne what with SSN, driving licence and other fun and then onto AOS, wheee! Here we go again.....

Good luck with the POE! Fingers crossed all goes ok!

I cant believe I fly out next thurs! Like you...after finishing work and saying goodbye's the time has flown by....and I'm still not fully packed!

Hope you find the perfect dress biggrin.gif

I found out only when I went to get my SSN. They told me that although I had a K1 in my passport, I was entered as a F1 visa holder and told to get this sorted before they can process my SSN. But of course they couldn't tell me WHERE to get this sorted.. I have an INFOPASS appointment with an immigration officer so hopefully will get results tomorrow.

Oh dear...I hope that they sort it out for you ASAP. It really irks me that they expect us to do everything PERFECT, and we take each and every painstaking effort to make sure things are successful from our end, but these officers do such ridiculous things as this mad.gif

I sincerely hope the INFOPASS appointment is all you need to get this sorted out. rose.gif

I agree! We screw up, it is sent back to us to be rectified and this causes long delays to our petitions.

They screw up it is left to us to rectify it and this causes delays.

Grrrrrrrrrrr, I hope the infopass apt helped gemmie.

I am not going to sugarcoat it for you any longer, you have started so many threads that nearly always end in self pity.

We all waited. Some continue to wait. It's hard. Being away from your loved one sucks more than anything ever could.

But you have a responsibility to yourself and your mental health to quit the self-pitying and accept....it IS going to be over soon. Just not as soon as the unrealistic time frame you had initially set for yourself. It's time for you to manage your expectations my friend. United KingdomQuestion for anyone who has had their interview already...
Dont worry. It's only an interview in the sense that you are asked questions and are expected to answer them.

They do only see you from the waist up, and they dont care what you are wearing. I must have looked like a mess by the time I got there. It was in june, so I was hot, sleepless and crazy eyed from adrenaline and unwarranted fear.

Wear something you feel comfortable in. It could be a long day if they are busy.

Those waiting to hear....if you haven't rung DOS yet, it might be worth doing so, they only received our packet on the first of this month and there was a bank holiday in there somewhere.

'Ello....I was hoping I could trouble the more experienced for some advice smile.gif

We sent our packet back on Friday....obviously taking into account the bank holiday monday and the general lethargy felt by all workers on a bank hol Friday, when do you guys think it would be reasonable to expect notification of an interview date?

I'm moving at the end of this month and although I have changed the address on the form, I have seen a couple of people who haven't had that picked up by the embassy and subsequently information has been sent to the old address. I just want to know what is considered a "reasonable" period of time for them to process pk3 and issue pk 4 so that I can give them a call if I haven't heard anything. Oh! and we put a leave date of 30th June on there.

To top it all of my boss is bugging me about having to know when the interview is in June so that he can schedule my working time table (that man is going to bleed me dry before I leave, i swear it)

Thanking you in advance smile.gif

I'm with bob. Some people are luckier than others. I didn't think I was going to get my NOA 2 until about June. When it came through in March I cried a little with happiness and felt so lucky. There are people who filed before me who are still waiting for a NOA 2 and there are people who filed after me who are already in the US....but hey....that's the way it goes.

Congratulations on the interview date Laura. You got one quite quickly!!! Gives me hope smile.gif

I received my packet 3 today.....and returned it today special delivery for it to get there tomorrow before the bank holiday (I'm eager and didnt trust the post office not to lose it over the 3 day weekend smile.gif) so I cant wait for them to assign a date! I'm hoping for one in early / mid June. I put 30th June as my leave date.....so fingers crossed.....

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find a UK specific answer by using the search function on VJ. On the DS-156 there is a question that asks the place of issuance of the passport and the province.

Hmmm, well i applied through the post office and it was sent through my door. So, is it my home town and county? Just wondering what everyone else wrote.

Thanks smile.gif

Hi Jim,

I'm pretty sure if you do your medical on the same day as the visa they wont be able to give you an approval on the day. You will have to wait to recieve your approval until they have seen your medical results, and generally speaking these take a couple of days to be recieved by the embassy.

Happy St George's day!!!!!

I am very happy that I can now officially join this thread. After a horrific day yesterday, I goosed my fiance into ringing NVC whilst I was on a call with him last night and....we have been released from NVC! After 36 days stuck on administrative processing... it was such a relief.

I happily await notification that London has my file!

As an aside! I am going to london in May for my medical and decided to look at how much the coaches cost. I managed to nail down a fun fare for myself and my mum who's coming with....for the grand total of....

£2 each...for a return! It takes longer than the train, but.....for that price i just couldnt turn the extra hour or so on the coach down. So if anyone is coming from the south west region, it is worth checking out National Express' fun fares. To fill in the time between the medical ending at about 2:30 ish and the coach at 6, we have decided to check out the natural history museum. It's free to go, and last time i went it was AMAZING.

And for those who haven't sent in package 3 yet, you might want to considering filling out both wedding date and travel date fields even if plans aren't finalized.

The IV-15 form asks what your travel and wedding dates might be, but I wouldn't consider putting in a date just to jump to the front of the queue. I'm not sure if it's related to assigning an interview date, but question 18 on the DS-157 form asks,
"Have you made specific travel arrangements? If YES, please provide a complete itinerary for your travel, including arrival/departure dates, flight information, specific location you will visit, and a point of contact at each location."

If I'm wrong in tying this to wedding/travel plans, somebody please correct me.
Bob

Hi All ....

I do remember seeing that Bob and I DID put NO to the DS-157 question. I have no specific travel dates - I'm doing what I'm told and am waiting until I have my visa in hand before booking my one way flight!

However, as you say, the IV-15 form asks if you have a date in mind for travelling and also for the wedding. I put "mid May" for travelling and "mid June" for the wedding. It's what we are hoping for, so maybe the Embassy will co-operate and maybe they won't! laughing.gif I know I couldn't give them specific dates, but I didn't want to just leave it blank ....

You know .... I've spent 11 days with Steve out of the last eight months and I'm really struggling to be patient .... I know I'm luckier than some people because I actually had a visit .. but OMG .. I wish they would hurry up and extract the proverbial finger! rofl.gif

I agree that people do not do enough of their own research before asking questions, but also understand that that is what this site is about. I work full time and do not have time to read the full 59 pages of this thread and discover that, that date was a defining factor in the embassy assigning you an interview date. That's why I think that is more of a hint or a tip than an actual part of the process. I too have done a lot of reading, and to date have only hit one wall....AP at NVC, something sadly I have no control over.

But even with a pinned thread the one piece of info you need could be on page 59! Whether a topic is pinned or not you're still going to have to search for information and people just tend not to bother.

Ok, i get what your saying. But we could keep it short.

How many hints are there????

I'm not talking about.....

"wear pink! Pete the interviewer with blonde hair likes pink alot and will give you a visa if you are wearing his fav shade of fuscia!"

BUT

"Make sure when completing your checklist you enter a date into the intended travel date section. This section is the one that defines when your interview is likely to be scheduled" That is a handy tip. And thus far I am yet to see the embassy volunteering that information on any of their forms.

Ack, I understand the difficulties in keeping such a thread or document relative. Which might be why a document is the best way forward. Less pages to skim through, all in one place, updatable.

The pinned topics get ignored too. People need to learn to use the search function, it's actually quite good.

I understand that, but what we are talking about is a top tip that you wouldn't even know to search for if it wasn't for the good people here sharing their real life experiences of the process. These threads get can get really long and unfortunately that type information gets lost in pages and pages of other bits of conversation and information. Some of these tips can also be very embassy specific so pinned information or an updatable google doc might be a good idea.

I realize your heart is in the right place with this suggestion, but I still disagree. We have the Guides, Wiki, Embassy portals and pinned topics and yet people still ask the same questions over and over again. Before I filed for my I129f, I read on VJ. A LOT. That is how I learned all the stuff I now know.

People need to take some responsibility for the process and do some research. There is too much of this "act first and ask questions later" mentality. If after researching, a question still remains, then it should be posed in the appropriate forum. But all of this should be done prior to mailing things off.

I understand what you are saying too Julez but disagree to some extent because there was no way that I would know that the embassy organise interview dates according to what you write in the date of travel section on the checklist. I used the search function too, and quickly typed "how to get an expedited interview date in london!" "how to get a sooner interview date in london" and recieved no results that would assist me. That kind of hint / tip is born out of the experience of people who have gone through the process, or in RBAL's case, have found this out after the fact. I would have left that section of "travel date" blank too, because whilst I know when my wedding date is going to be, I have at present no confirmed travel plans and will not have any until that visa is in my passport and that passport is in my grubby mit.

I agree that people do not do enough of their own research before asking questions, but also understand that that is what this site is about. I work full time and do not have time to read the full 59 pages of this thread and discover that, that date was a defining factor in the embassy assigning you an interview date. Guess, I'll be paying the phone charges tomorrow when the embassy opens from the holiday.

Well, we called the embassy today (@ £1.20/min) to learn an important lesson when filling out the checklist for package 3. We had filled out our expected wedding date (5/31/09) and left the travel date blank since we didn't have tickets yet. The clerk told us that interviews are sorted based on travel date (if any) otherwise they get standard timeline processing. She cited 6-8 weeks for interview letter which would have it scheduled approx 4 weeks after that. She also said sometimes they do reference the wedding date, but the records didn't show that an interview date had been scheduled yet.

Now granted, its only been 4 working days since they received our package 3 so we likely are jumping the gun a bit - but has anyone else gotten more than 4-5 weeks between sending the package 3 and interview?

And for those who haven't sent in package 3 yet, you might want to considering filling out both wedding date and travel date fields even if plans aren't finalized.

Thank you for providing that information. I haven't had time to read this whole thread and I probably would have left the date blank too. I'm sorry you have the additional wait sad.gif I notice though that nearly everyone here has had interview dates quite soon after sending in packet 3 so hopefully the interview date wont be too far away.

I hope they get back to you with an int date soon.

If you have it, you should be able to go ahead and book your medical to get things moving. Getting Police certificates and the like is also something else you can be doing.

Thanks Marty. Yeah I have a case number, they sent it in their letter of lies (we will be sending your petition to London in one week bla bla bla bull***t - I'm mad, can you tell innocent.gif )

Trouble is.....I have been horribly organised (not like me AT ALL!!!) and have all my forms filled out, police cert sorted, medical good to go. Dave's stuff is on the way over. I hate living this half life. I hate my job and i miss my BFG!

I'd do it all again for him though.....(dang I am SOPPY!) I might have to take up a new hobby to fill in the waiting time. Like knitting, or sky diving.....or baking cakes.

United KingdomPeople between NOA2 and Interview ~2009~
So....

I thought i could join this thread and get excited about getting my packet 3!

Wrong...i got suspicious as to why London didn't have it on the system and called NVC.

Apparently....we are on AP. sad.gif Anyone else on this thread had experience of that at NVC stage? Or are David and I just lucky enough to have received extra attention from those lovely folks at NVC.

On the plus side....I have been in NVC AP for 28 days...and didn't even know it. So hopefully we'll get out soon.

It arrived today! My photo looks awful, plus the Royal Mail bent them up something rotten.

I know what you mean. I know its a police certificate but they didnt have to make me look like a criminal! Mine was all bent too.

Hi guys, Hope you dont mind but i'll be keeping up with this thread from now on. We were approved on the 12th and have received confirmation that NVC have our case. A letter was sent to us on the 19th saying it would be dispatched in a week, so if it isn't in London already, it will be soon.

I noticed London are giving out interview dates really quickly! And there is a short duration of wait too! I really don't want to be interviewed until June or july to allow my SO's new job to become more stable. He wants to be there for the interview too...the plan was always for him to come in June so we are hoping to co-ordinate his interview around this.

As I am so new to this "having a NOA 2" business i was just wondering if someone could clarify something for me.

Am i right in thinking an interview wont be scheduled till the checklist is sent....but prior to that i can send the other forms in. I have also read the embassy website and I think i'm being a bit daft. Do we send a the affadavit of support form before we attend the interview? Or do we submit all documentation at the time of interview. Sorry if it's been asked before, but I keep being confused by different pieces of information I have read on this site and was looking for help from someone who is at the same embassy as us.

Good luck to all those with up coming interviews. Every time we see someone being approved it makes me feel like we are getting closer to our end goal too.

You can send the DS forms in first if you want. I did that as I want to spread it out abit as I am away for 8 weeks soon. I just included a cover letter with the NVC case number (begins with LND) saying that I will be sending the checklist once I have gathered all the required documents. In fact if you read the instructions given in the link when you get Packet 3, it tells you to do that. Here's the link they give youhttp://www.usembassy...a/iv/iv_15.html (scroll to the bottom for the instructions on sending stuff in).

The affidavit is given in at the interview along with the documents requested. Only the forms and checklist are sent in.

Thanks Laura. I hope you have a blast in the US

Those who got their police certificates recently, how long did it take? I sent for mine, 1st Class, on the 11th March and still haven't received it.

Hi Laura,

Mine took 16 days (including weekends) to come through. I sent it on the 5th March and got it on the 21st - the day before i got back from seeing my SO.

United KingdomHopefully this wont be a problem...
They lost my husband's divorce decree.

Luckily I had a spare! That would have been a request for evidence if I didn't have it.

Dont panic, just make copies of all you can!

United KingdomFlying into the UK
Thanks for asking this question. I am flying home to the UK on Weds for the first time since I came here last year and was wondering whether I should wait in the line with hubby or not.

I think I will. Plus, last time I flew back into Heathrow, It was quicker to get through immigration as a foreign passport holder than a citizen. All the blue passports were whizzing by, whilst I stood in line...cold and depressed to be back home!
