All the good vibes are sooo lovely to see. I must admit, alot of people here say that they find that the process seems to have taken forever to do. For me it seems like a blink of the eye since we filed in November.....and sometimes I have to pinch myself that it is happening. Mind you, dave and I have been lucky. We have had 4 weeks together since we filed, which is a lot more than some. I think this has helped make the wait more bearable.

Even though I have booked my tickets, given up my job and moved back in with my mum, on some level I still cant believe it is happening and I dont think I will be able to fully comprehend this until I step off the plane in Tampa, look at Dave's big goofy smile and realise I dont have to go back and forth anymore...

Woooooooooooooooooooooosh. Sorry about that...that was a loooong sentence.

How's the packing going gemmie? Do you feel at all ready? I keep looking around and realising that I am actually going to miss the west country......

Yeah, we originally followed the VJ guides on the intend / do not intend situation but after reading about peoples experiences I had Dave send me another form with the intend box checked.

It arrived today and I'm really glad I asked him to do it.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I am feeling a little less frazzled...sleepy-ness will do that to me smile.gif

For Me:
Appt Letter
Police Cert (and copy)
Birth Cert (and copy)
Passport
Proof of relationship (photo's of us with family, emails etc)
American sized passport photo's (to be obtained the night before the interview when i arrive in london)

David
I-134 (With I DO intend ticked)
A notarized copy of the Tax return just sent
Previous 2 years tax returns with w2's
Employer Letter stating permanancy, length and renumeration of his position
Pay stubs for April and May

What about cash? With the card machines down lately, you might want to plan on having enough of that, or even exact change. Otherwise, I think that's about all that we have, or at least all I know about. Nik may have gathered more things himself. smile.gif

Just a comment:
Tax returns do not need to be notarized. This somehow popped up on VJ and is repeated a lot...
From the I-864 instructions (Part 6, point #25):
QUOTE
You must provide an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year.
...
You are not required to have the IRS certify the transcript or photocopy unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official; a plain transcript or photocopy is acceptable.

Not that I think yours being notarized is a problem...no need for him to shoot off a "clean" copy. The comment is more intended for those-who-come-after. No need to try to find someone/pay someone to notarize this part.

Thanks for the reply. Yes...and lots of cash. I will make sure I take some of that in with me when I go incase those machines are down. Any left over is for shopping afterwards. Completely by chance a friend of mine is going shopping in London that day so I am going to catch up with her after the interview is over.

We only got ours notarized because Dave had enquired about it months ago and found a fella down the post office who was willing to do it free of charge but I have since read that it's not a neccesity.

Again, thanks for casting a fresh pair of eyes over this. We have been collecting this evidence forever and I'd hate to fall at the last hurdle because I was having a dizzy moment.

Hi people smile.gif

So it's a little over two weeks till my interview but things are sooooo crazy with work and Im moving out of my house this weekend, so I just wanted to run my interview list of information by you all to see if I have missed anything.

I am feeling more than a little brain addled at the present time and was hoping fresh experienced eyes will notice any glaring ommisions that I am, at present, unable to see.

For Me:
Appt Letter
Police Cert (and copy)
Birth Cert (and copy)
Passport
Proof of relationship (photo's of us with family, emails etc)
American sized passport photo's (to be obtained the night before the interview when i arrive in london)

Previous 2 years tax returns with w2's

It doesn't look like very much does it???? Am i missing something. I'm sure I'm not. I was never previously married (he was but proof of that divorce was in the initial petition)

Fresh eyes....HELP! I'm going into panic mode now. So much is going on and I am scared of missing something. I figure if I miss something now, I will have time to sort it.

Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance

Frazzled....Ellie

I'm planning on going out for the interview but would really like to only take 1 day off work (Need the rest for the honeymoon!). What do you think my chances are for catching a 2:30 flight at Heathrow if the interview is in the morning (I don't know the time yet, but lets assume its for 8 am)?

Congrats! I think you can find out the time by calling DOS?

Yeah, it was just that I was getting a message that they were closed. But we got through and its actually at 10 am so I'm thinking that 2:30 flight will def not work! We'll keep looking though! kicking.gif

Krysti - I too submitted my packet 3 on the first and found out my interview date on Monday by calling DOS. The letter stating the date of my interview showed up yesterday.

Call DOS and find out what is going on in the first instance. Like Moira said, had she not called DOS she wouldn't have known when the interview was!

My interview is 12th june and I put an intended travel date of the 30th....it is this date that they seem to schedule by a lot of the time.

Congrats to MARM and Moira!!! Great news kicking.gif

Alixhilary and Paul, I'm sorry you are still waiting for your passports back. I wonder how many of us are out there?!

From personal experience, neither the people at the Embassy's expensive line nor DOS can tell you anything. DOS can tell that visa has not been issued but that's that - no explanation for the delay. I spent £17.5 on Monday having trying to get somebody at the extortionate line to give me an email code. She must have been the employee of the month considering how much money she managed to get out of me before she gave me the code!!!

I emailed them the same day and surprisingly got the reply the same day. It basically said that the visa will be printed out today and send to the SMS either that evening (Monday) or Tuesday the latest. Surprise, surprise, no visa in sight!!!

Now, the congressman is involved and all this email correspondence with the Embassy has been forwarded to him. Apparently, he emailed the Embassy both on Monday and Tuesday but has heard nothing. It's too late for us to get married this month but I'll be damned if I let this matter drop. If it means I'll have to send them an email every day, so be it. And if it means getting all relatives contacting their congressmen as well, it'll be done.

Hopefully, we'll all get our passports back soon so we can finally move on with our lives.

I am so sorry you missed your wedding day. After enduring the delay's of the process itself, to encounter these problems....AND see others interviewed after you, recieve their visa's... you must be furious. sad.gif

I was sure about booking my flights as soon as I found out that my interview date was over a month before my intended departure date, but the more and more people I see left in limbo after getting an approval worries me and I may have to reconsider.

I'm rooting for you all.

Congrats on all recent interview approvals, awesome news!

I'm still waiting on my visa, 2 weeks and 2 days so far...I only had to send in my mother-in-law's proof of nationality and that went in on April 29th, they had it on May 1st, so 12 days ago now. The lady at the interview said they were processing in 4 working days, so I'm quite concerned. I phoned the extortion line yesterday and spent 4.80 pounds finding out they didn't know anything about any cases that were "post-interview", so I should only call them once a month has passed, which really sucks as I was due to start my new job last week. I found the email on the wiki and emailed them like 30 minutes ago (can't sleep!) and got a reply stating they'd deleted my email without reading it...I also sent the same email to SCSLondon AT state.gov. I didn't get a deleted response from that, but I don't think it's the correct department....so fingers crossed there is a good samaritan that will just let me know what's going on.

Hi Paul,

I didn't realise you were from Taunton too....

It might be worth calling DOS instead of the extortion line. Their number is 202-663-1225.They will be able to look at the current status when you call (IE: Confirm they have recieved additional information and it is being processed) When you email London you have to input a code or your emails will get deleted without being read. You can call the extortion line to find out the current code.

Also bear in mind there was a public holiday just after you sent the information back, so essentially it's been 7 working days. There are a few people here experiencing delay's with regard to getting their passports back too.

I hope you can find something out soon.

Yep, dont worry about it. From what I have read it makes no difference to the POE guys whether you have a return or not, as long as you have that visa in your passport, that's all they care about.

Most also understand that it's cheaper to book a return.

Then I sat back down & waited 45 mins to be called for interview. Had the lovely, smiley American guy. He asked lots of questions but if you know your fiance well, it'll be fine. He said the docs were all in order & he was delighted to approve my visa! woo hoo!!

Guys, I was going to go to Bristol today to get the US sized passport photos, but I saw that they only re-size, they don't take the picture and then re-size..

Is it true that Gould's Pharmacy do this? Or would it be too much of a risk to get there on the day and do it??

EDIT - nevermind, they can do them in Bristol. smile.gif

Hi Gemmie

Where abouts in Bristol can you get the photo's done? I work there and could do with getting them ahead of time. Is it anywhere near Cabot's Circus??

Ellie

Snappy Snaps is in the mini shopping area on Whiteladies Road - you know near Cotham Hill / Clifton? I google-mapped it but the bus driver didn't stop when I pressed the bell and ended up taking me all the way to the station, so I had no idea where to go. The travel office was closed, so I called Bill to give me directions on the phone; an American giving me directions in Bristol!

Cost me £7 (good times) for two AWFUL looking passport photos (bad times). sad.gif She kept telling me to move every inch of hair back so I look like A TURNIP!

Congrats on the visa news and appointments, guy and girl!!

Excellent! Thanks for that. I think I know a bus that can get me there and back to the Centre or Temple Meads. Turnipdom awaits me also....although I usually end up looking like a pale and interesting Melon head biggrin.gif

Hahhahahahhaa, i once called dave to give me directions on alternative ways of getting out of Bristol when the M5 had a crash on it! The instructions given were....interesting to say the least smile.gif

Congrats to everyone who has passed their interview / have been assigned dates.

I hope to join the ranks of the assigned soon!

I'm so sorry that you had to witness that, Heather. It shocks me that people that are insufficiently trained are in charge of peoples lives. Was she a med student? Either way I'm sure whatever it is that she was responsible for, she feels awful and hopefully learned a big lesson when she cares for others in the future. I hope you're all doing okay.

Thanks, Ricky. My family aren't too pleased with the idea of me working in a prison (I look like a little girl) but I'm actually looking forward to the challenge. Really put some psych training into action. What did you do?

Congrats on the job Gemmie! I used to work in Prison education (mostly males, we only had one female prison on the books) and I have to say that I found it very rewarding to see the one's who had not passed a test in their lives (mostly from addiction backgrounds) pass and be proud of themselves. When I first started, I was less terrified than my partner (at the time) and family were of me working in prisons. Eventually it ends up being like most jobs. Juggling co-workers and differing personalities. The hardest part for me was remembering to lock all the doors and constantly having to account for pens, pencils....anything that could be used as a stabbing object. Many random things in my daily life I never would have thought of as having the potential to be used as a weapon.

I'm new to this thread so my gripe is:
I was promoted in my new job one day before my mentor (and co-manager) was investigated for inappropriate behaviour towards a colleague. I was left to deal with the fall out, stopping employee gossip and all of his work! :( MANY sleepless nights have occurred. Anyhoo....he's back on Friday after a suspension but my staffing levels are in tatters, even though the unemployment rate in Fl is high, I cant find any decent help and one member of staff is so pissed at my promotion she is waging a war of defiance against me. My husband is out of town this week and I have been left with the responsibility of introducing a new kitty to the household and my old kitty is REALLY pissed at me. If I have to break up one more kitty fight, I may go bald.

AND, I'm trying to lose weight and every where I go, people keep offering me donuts and candy. GRRRR.

ChinaWow...is that magic or just plain luck?
It comes it goes...

Sometimes it's a fluke, or sometimes (like right now) resources at Vermont are shifted to get through the back log of K1's that they had, and are now approving petitions in record time.

Eventually, it'll go back to how it was.

In our case, a really fast approval would have been the worst thing, as I needed time to prepare to leave and my fiance (now husband) had just been laid off.

I agree. And being pregnant is something that happens alot during this process. There are always contingency plans for these situations....after all...we are talking about visa's being issued based upon romantic relationships.

Stress is bad for your baby. If your husband really wants to help you, he should be putting less pressure on you at this time crucial time of development.

Just dropping in to say hi.... I used to be a regular on this thread, was stuck 50 days in AP back in Jan/Feb/March.

I see some of the old-timers are here: hi Lisa, cdneh, Talyss, and Badgerella!

Sorry to see people still getting stuck in AP, but glad to see that the wait times really seem to be shorter than they were.

Well, I just wanted to update folks of some good news....
we finally had our embassy interview, and we PASSED!!! My fiancee Thanti had a straightforward interview, after all the hassle we had at NVC and then getting Packet 3/4 at the embassy in Bangkok. She'll pick up her passport with the K-1 visa on Wed, board a flight on Thursday night, arrive in Chicago on Friday morning, and be here with me in time for fireworks on the 4th of July on Saturday. So, things do have a way of working out well in the end if you're patient. Need lots and lots of patience.

Also a head's up .. another veteran of AP@NVC, Mike (girarm) was stuck for 38 days, and his fiancee is having her interview in Bangkok literally RIGHT NOW (8 AM BKK time Tues morning). Hope she gets her visa too!!!!

Keep the faith, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

BTW - for those not aware of it, I built a website to track the AP@NVC statistics. You can see it by clicking the link at the bottom of my signature (below the scary messy commie thing, just ignore that tongue.gif ).

You may find it useful to track your progress.
Unfortunately it doesn't refresh automatically, I never got around to doing that.
So it needs to be refreshed manually. You can do so by going to http://apnvc.info/vjcron.pl . Your browser will spin for about 10 seconds, and then tell you it has a "500 Internal Server error". Just ignore that. Next time you go to the regular site http://apnvc.info, the statistics will have been updated.

I note that there are now only 14 names on the K1 "stuck" list <55 days (I ignore those over 55 days since they probably didn't fill in their timelines correctly).
And there are only 4 K3s "stuck".

This is much, much less than there was back in March when we had many more stuck people.

Good luck all!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, after a couple weeks of relative quiet it looks like more people are being put in NVC jail.

I just want to tell the newly imprisoned that you will survive even though it is so frustrating and disappointing at first. I was stuck 50 days - it was not fun ... But tomorrow I leave for the Philippines. I am going to my fiancee's interview on Tuesday and we hope to return together on July 4th. Its all worth it. good.gif

Just to follow up, we were approved on Tuesday and picked up the visa today (Thursday). They did not ask for any evidence of relationship at all since I was there.

The time spent at the NVC seems like a distant memory now ...

Hope everyone else's Journey goes as smoothly as ours has (after NVC that is).

That is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous news! Congratulations!!!

Oh God...I feel like my heart is breaking! We FINALLY got our NOA2 and it was sent to the NVC. I called today (even though they just got it yesterday...I was hopeful) to see if it had been sent to the consulate. I was told it was pulled for additional processing! After reading the horror stories here...I am just in tears.

Blu - I know right now you are a heart broken, but the important thing is to gain some perspective. Your biggest wait is already over. You aren't looking at a indeterminate time here, it'll be anywhere between 2-7 weeks.

Try and stay positive. I know it's hard (i was soooooo upset when I found out, cue tears, shouting, and eating of chocolate) but if you use your time constructively, it'll whizz by. Exciting things are around the corner biggrin.gif Keep your chin up and focus on those.
