Has anyone had an infopass appointment? If so, were you actually told any useful information?

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth driving 40 minutes each way.

From what I have heard, for a pending K1 case they have little or no benefit. A local office has very little control over a petition that is sat on someone's desk in Vermont.

If I were you, and as you are approaching that magic 6 month mark, you would be better off using this time to contact your local govt representative so that they can look into your case for you. Once it hits 6 months, then you are in a better position to kick some vsc butt and ask what is going on with your case.

That is the most wonderful news! It all goes really quickly from here so get those packet 3 forms sorted and filled out. I was told about when my interview date was going to be within 13 days of sending mine back :-)

I think your going to be a fellow June interviewee!!! smile.gif kicking.gif

Jen and Nick: Congrats on being approved, soon all of us will be with our loved ones.
Thank you guys for all your support.

Congratulations!!!!!!

I am so happy about it! Nick has the forms almost complete so we'll be ready to send back as soon as we receive packet 3! I hope he has his interview in June! I am feeling more comfortable (still not totally) about the wedding... it is at the end of August so as long as we don't face any major obstacles... we should be okay smile.gif

I'd be really really suprised if you could't meet the August deadline. We are still planning on my POE being July 16th and the wedding on the 25th....so you guys really will be fine. At this point I cant see many things holding you up. If you are already out of NVC then the only wait you will have is the assigning of the interview date and waiting until that Visa is in the passport and in your hand :-)

If you send everything back asap you will definitely get an interview soon. Late June / early july latest. London are really good at this stuff!

Jenn and Nick: Congratulations! The rest of the journey is going to move like a breeze.

FYI: I arrived NYC last night and the experience with the POE is pleasent. The time it took for me to go from waiting in line to being let out from the office (I was asked to stay aside and be led to a room) was about one hour. Most of it was waiting in line with other passengers to be called. The actual time they spent on my case is like 20 minutes at most.

Congratulations! Your home :-)

@ Mike and Miche

I'm sorry to hear you are in AP. It is infuriating and just so difficult to come to terms with after spending so much time waiting for that NOA 2.

NVC and the american govt see AP as a necessary step to protect national security so you are unlikely to get any information from them about why you are in AP and how long it can take.

To give you hope, it appears that AP is random. These random security checks seem to only take between 30-50 days. To date no one on the AP thread has been in AP past this time. Use the time constructively. I received packet 3 and sent back the forms on the same day. As a result of this I heard back from the embassy very quickly and it seems minimal processing of the forms I sent back, was carried out. Was this because I had been in AP and they had already had the chance to check me out? I honestly dont know, but what I do know is that I got my interview date before some people who had received their NOA 2 before me and sent back packet 3 weeks ago and they didn't have to endure AP.

Hang in there.

CONGRATULATIONS on getting your interview dates Ellie and Popo's Lady. Everything is so easier when you can count down to a certain date smile.gif Wish you the best of luck.

We got our marriage license and we are getting married on Friday. smile.gif His family will be attending and I am really excited about it. Other than that its pretty boring to be a housewife smile.gif Don't know how people do it all the time. Can't wait to start working something. (I will probably regret my words later smile.gif

I cant believe you are bored already!!! hee hee....you have got a few months of housewifedom to stare down yet! I suspect you will probably regret those words when you are staring down a full week of work smile.gif

I'm so excited for you! I cant believe you are getting married on Friday. WOW!!!! I am so jealous, I hate living this half life until I go....although I cant wait to hand my notice in in 2 weeks time on my job. I must confess, i haven't been the most motivated worker over the last few weeks...

Speaking of which...I received my packet IV today and interview is on June 9 @ 8am..an early start of the day - which is great!

Congratulations!!! We are only within a couple of days of one another! That is fabulous.

With regard to extending the K1 - I cant find anything that provides a definitive list of how to / in what circumstances so I am pretty sure you would have to be talking about some very unusual circumstances for them to agree to extend.

If you were approved in June and the visa given to you then, that would give you enough time anyway wouldn't it?

@ Jenn and Nick.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am so sorry they haven't got your petition approved for you yet, but i'm hopeful as you hit the 6th month mark, you can kick up enough of a stink to get something done. just_friend, that is so wonderful!!! Looks like you are one of the pioneers to the POE for the rest of us. And Ellie, I SEE that your ring finally came through the custom good.gif . Guys, I will be reporting from New York (JFK) POE soon.

By the way, does it usually take much longer for passengers with k-1 visa to be through the POE? Should I ask my fiance to come to the airport 2 hours later after my plane arrives? Because he is bringing our 2 little naughty cats with him. I am just worried that the cats might get really excited and start moewing like crazy in the airport. Thank you for any inputs.

It varies by all accounts. Sometimes it is 5 mins, sometimes it is 2 hours. ....sometimes longer.

There is just no predicting it and it will probably depend on how busy they are.

I am telling Dave to get there on time and he'll just have to sit and wait for me hee hee.....I'm MEAN....but Tampa is a really nice airport so its no hardship.

Jenn and Nick- any updates? I finally called one of my state senators and their office is looking into our case. I'll keep you all posted.

No update sad.gif I can't believe there haven't been any approvals this week! I'll be contacting my senator's office again tomorrow. This process really stinks! Nick will be here next Thursday for 4 days for my brother's wedding... really looking forward to that! I was so hoping we'd be further along on this journey by now. We may end up having to apply for a k3 visa or I'll have to move to the UK as we've already booked our wedding. We still have a few months, but at the rate our petition is moving we're trying to look at all of our options now. Pretty depressing really...

I have a question about the evidence of support for everyone... I had HR right a letter with my salary and job title about a month ago and now my job title has changed (at least something is going okay for me...) Do you think I need to request another letter?? The previous one more than covered the requirements, but I'm not sure if they'll look into things and see that they don't match...

I think depending on when the letter is dated, you will need to get another one done anyway. They like all the dates on these letters to be current to ensure that they are an accurate reflection of your current employment situation, though....London do not always require a letter of employment as long as you can provide 2 out of 4 of the evidence listed.

People have been moaning that the output at CSC has reduced too. All those visa's that they deem "more important" are being dealt with now. Makes you sick and makes you realise its all a money spinning scheme.

I hope you can get some resolution so soon. When is the wedding booked for? If it's a few months hopefully things will be sorted by then. From what i hear, when the state senators office gets called, VSC can pull the file quickly and ta da! all of a sudden your approved. I really hope it works that way for you.

I will submit a review at some point but they were so slow. I got out with my suitcases 3 hours!!!!!! after I landed. Ridiculous!!! I am still not sure about the driving license but we'll figure it out. Will keep in touch wink.gif

Honey your home!!!!!! Congratulations sweetie. Sorry POE was a pain.........!!! Like this journey hasn't been hard enough, they make you wait that long? Was your fiance allowed to be with you when they interviewed you? I'm glad your there, safe and have a cell. I might have to persuade david to get me on his plan smile.gif

With regards to driving....look on the georgia DVLA. I know for Florida I need to have an SSN to apply. I have to start from scratch though. I am ummmmm....am not a natural born driver.

Okay.....truth be told. I suck at it. I am distracted easily and scared of everyone on the roads. But i'm determained this time to pass ......just anyone planning on driving on the roads near Brandon and Tampa....check with me first to see if I am out and about, if I'm not driving...you are safe smile.gif

Kevin&Leilei whats going on with you guys? We've lost you in the last couple of weeks.

Hey guys, I just got back to China from several weeks in Phuket, Thailand, having a sort of pre-marriage honeymoon. Also a trip abroad together makes for some really good bonafide relationship evidence. We got back to her home to discover packet three had been delivered already, a good two months earlier than I was expecting it. Now I get to help her fill out the form, and collect her police certificate, single certificate, etc.

Sorry I haven't kept up to date on the race, but I've been busy. smile.gif

Welcome back, and I am jealous! I love Phuket, taught English there back in 2004 and the students were so much fun to teach with such great attitudes. Thailand is such a beautiful country.

We submitted our Packet 3 checklist back to the Hong Kong Consulate, to show we are ready to be interviewed, 2 weeks ago. We still have not got the letter back with the interview day though. Down to the last step and the waiting is getting harder now. Praying for a mid-May interview and a late May trip to the USA. Come on HK, hurry hurry! I might email them one more time, but I do not want to make them think I am crazy with all my emails asking for status updates. blink.gif

Ahhh dont worry about them thinking you are crazy! You need to know that date! I'm hoping for mid-june, but until we get those dates life is still on hold sad.gif

Go on! email! Make them crazy biggrin.gif:D:D:D

Ellie, I hope that you will get your interview soon after you have your medical done. It took 2 weeks (10 business days) for me to get the result back. Knowing this in advance, I sent in my check list about a week later after I mailed in the packet 3 (DS156, DS-156K, and DS-230). Yet, the consulate here in my country works fast. They mailed out the interview appointment notice before I sent them the completed check list and requested an ineterview.

just_friend, good luck with the pick-up. Have a safe ride!

For those who are still waiting for the interview or the packet 3 to arrive, I pray that everything will go smoothly and all of us can be back with our loved one soon.

One question for everyone: I got my passport back with the visa this morning. A sealed package came alone with it. I know I am not supposed to open it. But there are some other documents the consulate returned to me, including some of what we first sent to the USCIS back in November, e.g. copies of our photos, receipts, airplane tickets and so on. Do I need to bring them along with me to the States in case they want to see them at the POE.

You wont need them at POE. All evidence suggests that the unopened packet and the visa in the passport is sufficient. I'd take them with you to the states for safe keeping

Well yes. The requirement for the medical in order to get an interview is for women under 26. That is what i don't understand. As I said my doctor told me that the vaccine takes effect only to young girls who doesn't have intimate relations. This is also what internet web sites indicate too. Anyway I already had my shot and I am planning to take the rest of it (just in case) but still don't get this difference.

Correct. All of the research I have read indicates that HPV is only really beneficial to those girls and young women who are yet to start having sex.

I think you hit the nail on the head with regard to it being a money making scheme as the benefits to a sexually active woman having the vaccine are negated.

I'm going to see if I can get out of having it. I know that you dont have to have the vaccine for K visa, it is only required for AOS. And by the time I go to adjust my status I will be 27 and therefore outside of regulatory time frames.

Just Friend....I do hope you can get that visa in time. Hopefully even if you cant leave Monday, you will still be able to get there, get the legal wedding done and file for that AP in time to get to your sisters wedding. I'm doing the same as you. A legal wedding to get AOS over and done with and then a "family" wedding in April 2010. Gives me time to plan, I thought about doing it here, but the complexities of organising a wedding from over 4000 miles away eventually got the better of me!

@ bapacker - Congrats on the approval!!!!

@ just_ friend - i hope you get everything sorted in order for you to catch your flight in time. This process is definitely like a rollercoaster but its all worth it in the end star_smile.gif

ok, so I THOUGHT I had everything in order for my packet 3 to be sent last Friday (or so) but I had forgotten something at home so I could send it. Later that day I received a call from the Police department advising that the fingerprint certificate was ready to be picked up. I had already received a police certificate weeks ago and thought that was it - so I thought, thank goodness I didnt send in packet 3 on Friday. Monday morning I had left for work extra early to go to the police station to pick up the certificate..I was then advised that I had to go to the 'Criminal Records' department in the police headquarters to pick it up...that was a waste of time. So I had gotten a friend of mine to pick it up for me since she works near the place (I had to send her a letter authorizing to pick up on my behalf). I then went to her house to pick it up later that evening only to realize it was a duplicate copy of what I'd already received weeks ago mad.gif them silly people!! headbonk.gif

Then I was up and ready to send off everything today and realized that I left the photocopy of my passport with the "packet copy" which I left at home no0pb.gif .... sorry for the vent..I just had to get it off my chest..i think its the pregnancy that's making me extremely forgetful as of late wacko.gif

Vent away honey! My friend said that when she was pregnant she would forget things all the time. And she did. The number of times she shut the door and realised her keys were on the table was ridiculous. In the end her hubby cut her a spare and the idea was that the keys would live in the plant pot. But what she would do is forget, take them inside, leave the house and shut the door again.

The police certificate thing is very GRRR!!!! though! My goodness, these people dont know their bottoms from their elbows sometimes. I'm not suprised your frustrated! And, it sounds like you have so much more to organise and send back for packet three. Things like my passport copies, Birth certs etc, aren't presented till i get to the interview. So the prep you are having to do right now is the prep I will have at least a few weeks to do. Dont be too hard on yourself. There is ALOT going on!

While we are venting, Dave's ex promised to get the joint tax returns to him last weekend....but she was busy. I said if she doesnt give him that information this weekend, he is to make a complete pain in the backside of himself and sit on her front doorstep till she gives us what we need! I dont think she is being spiteful, I just dont think she realises just how important the information is to us right now.

@vol4life - it looks like you are the next interviewee so far! Good luck!!!

Congrats on the approval bapacker!!!! That's wonderful news!

I think as a rule of thumb, and to try and ascertain what will be expected of you at the interview, you need to look specifically at peoples experiences of being interviewed in the embassy you will be going too.

For example, whilst the employment letter wasn't something the neccesarily wanted to see at your interview bapacker, I know that London are very hot on ensuring that there is as much supporting financial information as possible, and in particular that en employer letter is supplied. Then again, London ask few questions actually about your relationship and hardly ever ask to see proof of your relationship either. I'm still going armed with Photo's and emails though smile.gif

Congratulations again!!

Who's up next for interview???? I was hoping to get packet 3 today, but because we waited so long for our file to clear NVC, I am getting impatient, and might just send all the forms in that are required, before it arrives biggrin.gif

Hello Mike & Miche. Thank you for the good words. Our attorney contacted me and said that he fixed the problem back in December. Apparently my name was wrong on NOA1 too (i didn't know that). I guess that's why we had touch in December. Anyway he said he will send me the document showing them acknowledging the correct spelling. I have no idea why they misspelled it wrong again on NOA2. I hope this won't cause any problems with the interview. Wish me luck

In order to find out the dates NVC received and sent your file to the consulate you have to call them at this number 603 334-0700. We waited a week after the e-mail from CRIS before we called. Actually I called them trough my computer (voip). It took like 5 minutes. You need your case number, and the birthdates of you and your fiance(e). They told me when it was sent and I asked them when it was recieved by them. I was so happy they've sent it so fast that I forgot to ask about our new case number and tracking number for DHL. I was able to find an old thread here in VJ that explain how to track the package from NVC to the consulate. (the trick with EXP MM/DD/YYYYA ). That was all. 2 days later I received packet 3.
Good luck to all of you smile.gif

Hello to all my fellow November filers. Well, I contacted the NVC shortly ago to get a status on the approved petition for processing to the local consulate....the words "Additional Processing" were mentioned. ACK.

From everything I have read here on VJ, this can cause a substantial delay. But, I dont want to get her and I in a bad state of mind, so was wondering if any of you might have input on whether my understanding of the Additional Processing status is something to not be too concerned about. The NVC notification hard copy was dated April 20th (one week ago), so it hasnt been too long since they received from the VSC. But again, considering many of the other VJ'ers timelines of quick turnarounds from the NVC, I am a bit concerned.

Thoughts / comments would be greatly appreciated. We are in this for the long haul, but the VSC wait of 4 months & 3 weeks was brutal, and I am hoping we dont have to deal with that type of wait again.

Probably being a bit over-sensitive at this point, so apologies if my inquiry is sounding a bit impatient.

Thanks much friends.

M&M

Hi M&M,

We too were in additional processing. We just got out. The typical time to be stuck in AP is between 30-50 days. I'm sorry I cant be the barer of better news. But try as we might there was no way out. There is nothing wrong with your petition, you were just one of the unlucky ones who got selected.

Please take a look at this thread http://www.visajourn...howtopic=165644

They are a very supportive group and you will get some idea of what you are up against. This group of people gave me such hope and support whilst this was all happening. In the meantime if you have any questions please PM and I will do my best to answer them.

Additional Processing is frustrating, but it does end.

They wished to see the photos but nothing else from the huge bag of proof i brought to the interview smile.gif The CO said they will send me the visa via DHL and I will have it by the end of the week. If everything is ok I am flying next Monday. YAYYYY. It was not a big deal at all. if you wish more info i filled out a detailed review.
Good luck everyone. Keeping fingers crossed for all of you.

Sweetheart will be there in just a few days heart.gif (if they let me in with the whole flu outbreak)

NatPatBen don't worry about not knowing for DS 157. they will send you instructions of what exactly you have to fill out. And also if you don't know you need only part 1 of the DS 230

CONGRATULATIONS! Our first approval in what I hope is a rush of them! That is such wonderful news....so so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do hope the swine flu outbreak doesnt hold you up, fingers crossed!!!!

Hey how is everyone? Hope all is well.

I pray soon those left will get approval, am sure is very soon.

QUESTION: We have med exam next week. We wanna know if
vaccine shots are included in fee?? How do they say whether or
not is needed?? I know all will go fine, just wondering about those.

We have interview at manila embassy May 21. Yipppppppeee!! I
can't wait to get thru all. What are you guys taking to the interview
process??
I miss my baby, my Oury!! I can't wait til we get thru all soon.

Also, what are u guys deciding on flights?? booking before getting
approval or waiting til after??

Good luck and may God Bless!!

Kevin

WOW! you got your interview date so quickly!!!

As for the medical, you would be better off posting in your regional forum and gaining information from people who have experience. Every country differs but I know in London, we have to pay additional fees for any shots required. To gain my vacination record, I just went to my doctor and asked for it.

Good news! Our case was forwarded to the Embassy in Manila on Monday May 11th!! Woohoo!! Call it fate or whatever but yesterday also happened to be my fiancee's birthday! I have updated my timeline. Should I edit out "stuck@nvc in my timeline? God speed to everyone else stuck there. Even though I didn't post much I read everyone's posts and hope you all get out of NVC soon! Best wishes and thanks for all of the encouraging words!

Best wishes,

Grace & Steven

Congrats on the releases and yaaay for found engagement rings biggrin.gif

Hee hee....thanks. The whole time he was unemployed and dirt poor i couldn't care less about having one, but then when he got a job and bought it....well I probably would have sold my granny to get it here. Customs were quite fair. No import charges....but plenty of VAT....

Badgerella - what sort of wedding will you have? Just a civil or a proper "knees up"? I cant deal with organising a big one so we are going to do a civil - hopefully on the 25th of July and then a bigger one for family in April '10

The wedding bands....hmm....I hadn't even thought about my actual wedding ring!

I'd also advise you to try to contact the USEM in Bangkok, if anything, to make yourself feel better about it. It was probably really easy for us to do so, though, because it seems that here in Croatia people don't really apply for anything but tourist, student or work visas. For any even remotely immigrant related things, there's pretty much no waiting and, when you call them, they know you by your name.

Either way, good luck! I hope you'll get your interview date soon!

Steve and Grace, I'm afraid your congressman, or anyone else for that matter, won't be able to do anything at this level. You'll just have to wait it out.

Good luck!

Thanks Badgerella. We of course have been emailing the BKK embassy regularly. They only respond to emails, not calls. Their IV Unit handles a much larger volume of casework than does the Croatian embassy, obviously. My fiancee is active on a immigration related website similar to VJ, but in the Thai language for people in Thailand who are navigating the process. According to the buzz on that side the embassy seems to have just stopped issuing interview appointments. Nobody has received an appointment for the past 4 weeks or so. So there's really not much more to do but wait.

Steve & Grace - as Badgerella says - most likely you'll just need to wait. At least the NVC times seem to have come down a bit, so there's a good chance your wait won't be too much longer.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......I am so sorry after all of this, that they are not issuing dates. I swear, I am never going through this process again. All the blooming stress has white hairs cropping up all over my head. I'm only 26!!!

Good luck Ron. I hope BKK pulls its finger out soon.

I wonder what happens to the 4 month validity of this visa, all this time wasted, wouldn't it get too close to the expiration specially that this is not the end of the road?

has anyone ever not come out of AP? smile.gif

I've never heard of case being denied at NVC stage for a K.

    At the consulate level.....sure.

But administrative processing IS something you will get out of. Even if right now, you feel disheartened.

    Good morning my AP peeps.

I'm getting all of a dither at the moment trying to sort things out in anticipation of our release from NVC....and wanted to ask a quick question.

Last time I called NVC, they took my email address. Does this mean that they will actually contact me when we break out of jail? Or, like everything else to do with NVC, was it just a way of giving misinformation and false hope to their inmates.

Has anyone actually recieved an email from them when they were released? I dont mind calling, but its putting a hell of a dent in my phone bill, and dave is working so many hours at the moment he doesnt have time to even sleep properly.

Thanks......hoping to see more releases today! wooohooo!!!

I've been calling every Monday. I just did my weekly call a few minutes ago. "Well sir it does appear you are undergoing some additional processing. We can't give you a time frame when that will be complete. Is there anything else I can help you with."

Oh well the wait goes on...

Ha ha.....yup. Just recieved the same response. Except this time I talked to a very nice lady called angie who was actually sympathetic, apologised for the delay and could tell me the date on which we went into additional processing, something they wouldnt tell us either of the times we called before.

March 16th - the fateful day that NVC held my petition hostage.

I think i'll make monday's my day to call too. I hate monday's so I may as well recieve horrible news on that day than any other.
