United KingdomWoo Hoo!!!!!
YEP! We FINALLY got the Interview date!!!!!!!!!!!
February 8 @ 10am
He has that Friday off and is now trying to get that Thursday off as well.
(cross you fingers as his boss doesn't know what the day off is for)

BTW. Pjc emailed them way back when, then he emailed them recently saying the 6 weeks he was told to wait was up and he received an email back with the interview date & time. He has also called in a couple times and I called that DC number to check once.

United KingdomNOA2 Expires
I posted this same thing and was told the NOA2 expiration is more of a deadline for the Embassy to get your interview date out. It doesn't need to be current for anything except for them I believe. Don't hold me too it, that was just what I was told. Our interview is on Feb 8. Apparently though, if they need to the UK does it automatically (as in applies for an extension for you).

lol I was laughing about us all going on about Duvet's in a Food thread!!

I found a box mix for Sticky Toffee Pudding (Nordicware).... I am going to make it for PJC when he gets here. Don't know if it's any good.... I have never had Sticky Toffee Pudding.

lol funny enough, most Brits (and Euros in general) don't understand the whole sheet thing. I guess its there to protect our Bedspreads & quilts that aren't easily cleaned. I have been using a duvet since like 1996 when I went to Germany and they just had two really thick down duvet's on the bed.. one for underneath and one on top. I usually put a sheet on my bed but eventually it just annoys me and I rip it out. lol I did this long before I went to England. I guess I was destined to marry a Brit! (that and Im just to lazy to put a sheet on most of the time)

that's what our comfortors do too. Just you don't really find them everywhere. You have to go to Bedroom stores to get them. We just do mainly Down Comforters/Duvets but now they are getting more into synthetic (which is good as I am allergic to the down I think! )
BlueRain77FemaleEngland2007-01-25 11:55:00
United KingdomFav. all time food and drink in the UK
We have Duvet's in the US and duvet covers (Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens N' Things for example)....we have down or Synthetic fill (the synthetic being more like the UK kind)...ok so you can't get them for £10 at ASDA's but they work...

btw...ASDA is somewhat nice while WalMart is...well a nasty word I won't say (though cheap....in all sense of the word). The south maintains them well and they are nice, but if you head up north...they are pretty ding dang gross...

first of all. I think I noticed Glitter star mention IrnBru and I saw Seattle. If you ever venture to snohomish, there is a place called Piccadillly Circus Pub & restaurant and apparently they have Irn Bru. I haven't been there and never tried Irn Bru. However it could be like how US Guinness is....weak. lol (as in when they import it they make it all pastuerized and nasty)

What I miss (even if I am American)....
Decent Sausages!!!!
Galaxy which THANK GOD I can drive 30 min to get at the local (sorta) British shop. (I guess they have their own sausages too but I have yet to try them)
Yorkshire tea (THANK GOD they have that too)
a Decent Pint! lol (like Guinness without pasteurization)
.....and MOST of all...my Fiance as he is still over there...but I suppose he is not food or drink...but its something I miss from the UK anyway. :crying: (going over for Valentines though!! )

one more thing..... TANGO!!!! lol nothing matches it.

United KingdomWhat does everyone plan to do work wise when they come to the states?
This is a wonderful thread to hear. I have just come from the thread debating Work authorization stamps and so forth. lol We are still trying to figure out what he is to do when he gets here. There is a slight chance he will be able to be transfered into a local office here (he works for an international company in the UK), but he may also have to look for work elsewhere if that falls through. He is in IT and specializes in UNIX. Good thing Washington is overrun by computer companies! I am 99% sure I will be able to find him a temporary job at the company I work for (helps to be related to the boss!). However while he is waiting for the EAD card (& then greencard) I suppose we will either secure that transfer or send his CV around Washington.

Has anyone found reluctance on the employers part when handing them a CV (resume) and not having their work authorization yet? Do they give people a chance? or do they prefer that they have their EAD card (or greencard) before even looking at their resume? Anyone have insight on that?

United KingdomDriving in US
To add on, what does my fiance need to get a US Drivers license? All I saw was his paper license but no photo license. He was even confused when people wanted photo ID here cause apparently you don't even have to have your license on you when you drive over there...
Does he just need to take the written & driving test? What papers does he need? SS? Birth Cert? etc?

United KingdomAPPROVED!!!
Congrats guys!!!
Heishe, Pete (pjc) was wondering what went on this morning with you guys! Yay!! Pete got his Visa delivered Saturday so we can go whereever we want now and not have to wait.....well except that the airline didn't transfer my bag from Vancouver and I am waiting for them to deliver that! Had to go to Tescos for a toothbrush and clean knickers. lol! You know the essentials! Enjoying being in England again with my love. :D

btw, for anyone who is ever curious about Passport controls reactions to saying the word boyfriend or fiance. I said I was visiting my fiance and they just want to see my return ticket and asked where I worked and then asked again that I was sure I would return in the two weeks which i said yes. Of course the lady was pretty nice though. I just put on a big relaxed smile and usually have no problem. :)

Anyone fly Air India or Kuwait Airlines? They seem to be the cheapest. Looking for our one way from London to JFK (for stamp), then will fly onto Seattle. :D Hoping beginning of May.

Ok! 11:45am PST. Received 1/2 a text. Said he had problems with Immigration but sounds like he got through in the long run. It seems rarely anyone has had issues with JFK, but I guess today was a bad day... Told him they don't do EAD... Oh dear...I should have just flown him direct into Seattle...my poor guy! :crying:

11:30am PST/2:30pm EST. He should be going through Immigration and Customs or even getting close to being done. His flight arrived around 12:30 EST (30 min before schedule). Anyone know how long it takes to get through Immigration at JFK? I'm sure everything is fine, I am just the worrying kind...Good thing he doesn't take off until 6pm EST...

I am taking off Feb 10 to head over to England for 2 weeks (for Valentine's) I can't wait!! 25 days and counting. Hopefully we will get our packet 4 by then. Would really love to be able to attend the Embassy Interview. Just wish they would send us our date already!
Curious...did you guys put specific Wedding dates down for your packet 3?

Still nothing. Pjc called the embassy again and we are labelled "eligible for interview" but no interview is scheduled yet. I don't get it? This is VERY frustrating. Everyone else seems to be getting theres and we get put on the back burner. Anyone else having this problem?

I hope we are next! We posted the checklist on Dec. 4 (well pjc did)! Maybe this will be good cause then we may get an interview date it could be for slightly later and maybe after I arrive! I get there Feb. 11 and stay till the 24th.
I just got my ticket! woo hoo! DId you know that flying Air Canada is like $150 cheaper than BA AND I get travel insurance? We'll see though...I may found out I wish I had taken the BA Boeing planes instead of the AC Aerbus (LOL Im just biased as I am from the Seattle area and we are the kings [and queens] of Boeing lol)

Hey guys, what are the times of the interview? Are they always at 8am?

United KingdomWA sights for the British
So that's where the Sproose Goose is now! I remember seeing it when I was a kid when it was in a hangar next to the Queen Mary (In Long Beach?? or wherever in Cali)

I may have to do Snoqualmie as I haven't even taken my hubby yet!

Hey no problem if you aren't a Brit. smile.gif

Thanks for all the input guys. It's been a while since I had visitors outside Washington. When my ma in law came it was easy as she loves animals so we took her to the zoo and she was a bit more in shape than her husband so we could go more places.

Too bad it's $400 but I could have let him take a half hour ride in Bomber plane at the Museum of Flight while he was here.

May just have to extend our trip out to Lake Chelan a few more days...

Any suggestions on where to take my retired RAF Father In Law when he comes to visit. Obviously we are going to the Museum of Flight. Any other lesser known interests or big hits with the visiting Brit relatives that you would like to share with me?

United KingdomBritish TV Shows
In WA we get CBUT (canadian channel) and Coronation Street is on weekday nights. They are about a year behind.

BBCAmerica is great and if you have Comcast OnDemand sometimes they will air other shows for free. Mainly Office, Torchwood, and soon the new Robin Hood season 2.

We found a site where you can get delayed or live streaming online and watch most UK channels. I think it's $49 a month.

Been addicted to NetFlix recently as well. They have tons of old (& newer) brit tv shows & movies that are on dvd that you can select to send to you OR watch them online. $8.99 gets you unlimited dvd's per month (1 at a time) and unlimited select shows/movies online. I have been watching Red Dwarf, Little Britain, & The Office online.

United KingdomFed up!
Ugghhh. the waiting sucks horribly!! I hated it. Especially the wait for the interview when all is said and done and you are just waiting for that one last "Ok Your In!".
Keep your chin up!
Hubby has been here 2 years and we are sending off our Release of Conditions to get his 10 yr greencard. I guess that takes even longer! But yes, probably easier to wait when your love is by your side (although lots of frustration, "Have you checked the mail yet??" "can you give HS a call?" etc etc...) lol

United KingdomPassport Photos for UK Passport
Is there anywhere in the US (preferable WA state) where you can get a UK size 35mmX45mm passport photo done? Or do you basically have to create and cut your own?? I know they are smaller than the US standard 2x2. (3.5cmx4.5cm)

Thanks!

PS. Tried to ask on the UK Passport renewal post but no one answered....

United KingdomLost UK Passport renewal
We always keep our passports in our home safe, However this one time I either took it out to start passport renewal (but I swear I put it back immediately) OR my husband used it to use as an alternate ID for jobs and didn't put it back (more likely). Either way, it was a very unusual thing to Not have the passport in our safe. I even made a copy of all our passports and put it in our safety deposit box at the bank.

United KingdomLost UK Passport renewal
Anyone lose there UK passport & need to renew? My husband misplaced his at the house and we can't find it anywhere. We were planning to travel to Canada this summer and we need to renew. Do we really have to report it to the police if we are about 90% certain that we lost it at our house? I even have the passport number and photocopy of the main page that luckily I had stored as back up. I have looked at the LS form but it seems more geared to stolen passports...
Thanks!

My hubby PJC1973 aka Pete lives in Snohomish WA! (with me of course)

Hey anyone else in WA, any suggestions on where to take my father in law to visit when he comes to visit? He is retired RAF and the only thing i can think of is the Museum of Flight so far. I may post this as a seperate thread.

United KingdomPASSPORT RENEWAL
How long did it take for you to get back your passport? My husband sent his off at least 6 weeks back and still nothing. We even put Aug 2 as a travel date (he couldn't travel in the long run anyway due to work). Did anyone receive and notice beforehand. I can't remember if there was a section requesting email. We also need to notify them that we Found the lost passport. A few days ago my husband had a huge cleanout of his office and found it in a bum bag (fannypack for us american born) which he doesn't ever remember using...very strange.
