PhilippinesMy wife VS. American food
I've been here for just more than 2 weeks and I'm already tired of American foods especially sandwiches and pizza. I cook Filipino foods but something is "wrong and different" and I don't know what. I agree with the "portion" comment. I can't finish my small size of softdrink, in Manila small size here is the biggie size in Wendy's.

I took Vicky to Las Vegas and we got married on Valentine's day.

Did you see the "drive-thru wedding" somewhere along The Strip? That always makes me laugh

PhilippinesMy New Life...so far.

Our chosen route was simple we walked in took a number sat down waited, was called to the window, gave the lady our reason for a new SSN she asked for her passport the lady filled out the forum for us on her PC and out the door, in under 30-40 min. Your method sound exhausting and not necessary.

Yes, that's how mine was done too and the application for SSN was accepted that day. Gave me a receipt, proof that I applied and it was accepted and that if I didn't receive the card in 2 weeks I should inform and show them the receipt.

PhilippinesMy New Life...so far.

Your POE date was less than 3 weeks ago and I understand the feeling of restlessness and boredom as my wife also experienced it, but be patient as many who went through the K-1 process had to wait sometimes 6 months before they could start working.

Also, you might want to lower your job expectations a little as you soon will find that many employers will want to know what kind of work experience you've had here (which understandably is nothing). My wife was practicing dentistry for 6 years in the PH and as soon as she got her Green Card, started applying for dental assistant jobs. Some of the interviews were pretty humiliating, like..."But you don't have any front office experience." In a way, you'll be starting from scratch, and may have to take an entry level position working in a hotel to start out with.

Yes sir, exactly what my husband said. Thanks. :)

PhilippinesMy New Life...so far.

We had the same thing 'not in the database', go down to your SSN office with your passport and fill out a new form. My wife had it in ten days.

Yes, that's what we did yesterday. The lady said she would start the application procedure since I was "not in their database" yet so now atleast I know I'm REALLY waiting for my SSN since I applied personally.

PhilippinesMy New Life...so far.
I came to the US January 25 and instead of Las Vegas, I went to Buffalo,NY to meet my husband and his family there. Then while we were in Buffalo, we went to Niagara Falls since Canada border was just 15-20 minutes drive. I was hesitant because I thought I'd have a problem at the border but after few questions and checking my passport and visa, the officer said we can go. When I re-entered the US from Canada, the CBP officer was "confused" about the visa I'm holding, took my passport and commanded us to park our car and talk to the higher officer. When we went to the office, the officer said "he made a mistake, you're holding an immigrant visa so you're not supposed to be here (in his office). And I was like, Hmmm...The CBP officer doesn't know,huh?Interesting..Anyway, I am now here in Las Vegas, reviewing DMV manual and I think I'm ready to take the driver's permit test. It's just that I still don't have my SSN. That's another issue. I thought I was going to receive my SSN since I checked that box in my DS-230 form but when we went to SSA office, the lady said Im not in their database. I'm really curious how USCIS work on this. I am soooo bored. I started sending my resume and cover letters online. I have a degree in Hotel and Restaurant and since I'm here in Vegas, I hope I can find a job soon after obtaining those freaking permits. God bless us all.

Philippinesmarriage license

hehehehe... no... they will not do any fraud.. its just that the friend inside will do it easy for them to have all the reqs. its ok.. all ur docs. will be legal, its just that some instance, some couple or the USC cant stay here for so long, if they have a friend who can help them not to wait for 10 days then it will be good on part of them right...? and beside it is only marriage licence po.... we did it also on my 1st marriage we got our marriage license i think for only less than a wk. then even in the church bcoz the priest who solemnized our marriage is very close to us... and i remember that we just followed the legal capacity to marry on my civil local registrar here in my place.... :star:

Were you married to American before?
bowgirlFemalePhilippines2010-02-22 18:49:00
Philippinesmarriage license

We didnt get Legal Capacity to Marry first. I had limited time, so she got the marriage application first, and filled out her part. Then sent it to me, and I filled out my part. Then had it notarized. Then took it to the county clerk who signed off on it, then sent it to the state department of state. then sent it to the Philippines counselate. then sent it back to her. She took it back to City Hall where they displayed it the required 10 days. When I arrived, all we had to do was get the legal Capacity.... at embassy, and within 3 days of my arriving there we were married. Had 7 day honeymoon then, hehe...

We almost had the same procedure. It's just that I didn't send the form to my husband (then fiance), he just downloaded it, filled out and went to Philippine Consulate in L.A. to have it notarized and then he sent it to me. We didn't go through county clerk and DOS. :P

Philippinesfirst international trip alone, how long does it take going through Detroit airport?
I had Detroit as my POE and it was fast and easy and the officers were nice and very helpful. My connecting flight to Detroit which was Nagoya, Japan was more painful and stressful because they had to check carry-on things manually. They asked every passengers to open their bags and checked each items. I thought I was gonna miss my flight :D But Detroit was so nice. You won't get lost because there will be signs where you have to go you won't even need to ask. Goodluck. :)

PhilippinesNSO BC has her last name wrong

So we just received her NSO Birth Certificate and she was worried before about this being a problem because she has an annotated Civil Birth certificate. Basically when she was very young, her current step-father legitimized her and she took his last name. She had an NSO authenticated civil birth certificate that she used to get her passport. The DFA kept that one (her uncle got her passport and didn't make copies of her birth certifcate, he just gave DFA the original). She also has the NBI Clearance. She still has her original annotated civil birth certifcate that has her orginal last name and has the official annotation that says her last name is changed to her step-father's last name. We thought that since NSO authenticated the certificate used for her passport that they must have updated their database with her corrected last name. I guess not... So now her mother is planning a trip to Mindanao to the NSO Office where my fiance has her records, plus her mom has a friend in NSO office down there, and she says she can get a changed NSO certifcate, but it will not be cheap. Anyone ever had issues with NSO Birth Certifcates? If she has an official annotated Civil Certifcate, isn't it just a matter of taking it to NSO office in Manila and having them make the correction? Couldn't she do this when she's in Manila for her medical?

I know, I read that PH government is corrupt and everyone there is used to giving government employees little pay-offs for things, but this seems a bit extreme. The local Civil wants P1,550 per letter to change her last name on her Civil Certificate and give an un-annotated certificate.

This thing happened to me also. My name was corrected in 2001 with annotation from local civil registry office. They said they will forward it to NSO to update their database but when I requested for authenticated birth cert in 2009, that's the only time I discovered that I still have my mispelled name in their records. They asked me to go back to city hall's LCR and ask for endorsement letter with photocopies of other documents like certificate of finality and submit them to NSO. It took 2 weeks before they finally release the corrected and authenticated birth certificate. I paid 120.00 I think for the copy since we already paid for the whole process years ago.

Actually, we don't normally do that here because we're not hairy..I have very thin hair on my legs and you won't notice until you look at it closely so I don't think I need some shaving. And actually, I know some guys (well, they're pinoys) who gets turned on for someone who's "balbon".

PhilippinesCR-2 for my daughter
Hello to all! It's been a long time..

(1)I'm gonna file my CR-2 visa petition for my 2 yr-old daughter in Manila in few weeks and I just wanted to be sure..I read that I will only need to send my daughter's BC, copy of my greencard, I-130 form and appropriate fee, so no need of G-325, correct?

(2)I also want my mom to apply for a tourist visa so she can accompany my daughter here (and of course to see the country), do you think it's a valid reason if CO asked her?

(3)How long does it take for tourist visa application's approval in Philippines and how long is it usually valid for?

..any thoughts? Thanks.

PhilippinesPolice Clearance in UAE

Well at the time I didnt know she needed one, she lives in the Philippines now so Im not sure what we should do. I went to the Country Reciprocity Schedule for that country and it states that the post recommends that consular officer waive the general requirement to obtain police certificate unless the applicant lives there. Well if I read this right then maybe we are okay? I just hope this doesnt cause any problems!

Tony

nope...don't rely on that site, believe me she will need it, if you're on cr/ir visa, she'll need it on nvc stage if not, then on her interview. i posted before on how to obtain pcc from uae if you're already in the philippines (cos i did it myself), just search for it.

PhilippinesGetting a Driving License while on K1 Visa

Hi!

I will be moving to Las Vegas before New Year, if the Manila Embassy permits (praying :innocent: )

One of my major concerns is getting a driving license right away when I get to Nevada, as my fiance is a very busy person and he can't drive me around. I would need it especially for visiting his mother who has cancer and now lives about 10 minutes away by car.

I searched the DMV website for Nevada, but they don't give me enough information, so I'm asking for your experiences and knowledge here. Is it possible for me to go get my driving license right away after I get my SSN? I plan to get my SSN 10 days after my arrival. What is the actual process in getting that driving license (like how many days and how difficult is the exams)?

Some friends advised me to get an international license here in the Phils as they say that it's cheaper than the license there, but I'm not sure if Nevada would accept it, and if it's actually more convenient to do that and just have my Nevada license before the international license expires.

Your thoughts on this please...

:-)
Kezia

I was holding a CR-1 visa and they asked for my SSN and greencard when I applied for a permit. You need to take a written test and when you passed, they will give you a temporary permit to drive until you get the actual card (by mail) in 10 days. Permit to drive allows you to practice/ drive only with a licensed person. But I used to drive alone kapag super lapit lang  . BTW, you can download the driver's manual from DMVNV website.

PhilippinesMarried Filipinos who send money to family back in Philippines
I worked in Dubai for 5 years so I know how hard it is to earn money and it's really frustrating when cousins (and even friends) ask for money and sometimes they even gave me a deadline, that I have to send before a particular date like as if I just pick up dirhams from the Dubai desert. That's how most Filipinos think about the people abroad, that they have a lot of money they can send anytime they ask. I know how hard my husband work to live a decent life and to prepare for OUR future family. Now that we're so close to start a family, we've already discussed this issue many times. When I get to the US, we will send money from his salary until I get a job. I have my share of expenses here and I cannot let my sister shoulder it when I leave plus I have a daughter to support. He doesn't mind supporting my daughter and even sending for my share (as I don't mind him sending for Mama in New York) but I admit, I am a person with too much pride. But I know, he will always help my family but will give a second thought with regards to my relatives.

As a person, woman and wife, I don't think I will ever forgive my husband if I knew he posted something like this in a public forum. All I know about Claudeth was she is the OP's wife until this thread. This issue is something between the couple or can only be shared with close friends/family who can give her advise and make her realize about her behaviour and not for public to talk about..just a thought.

PhilippinesTravelling with an infant

My daughter was three weeks old when we took her back to the states. You have to notify the airlines, and ask they assign you a bulkhead seat. The bulkhead (Boeing 747), had provisions for a bassinet that attached to the bulkhead. My daughter slept all the way except take off and and landing. The airlines provided the bassinet. Call and let them know about the baby and ask if they still have something like that.

Thank you. My son will be 13 months when we travel to Manila in November. I was thinking to just get a baby slinger from Target. Thanks for the info, I will call and ask Korean Air.

why are you expecting an RFE? just because your case wasn't been updated in almost two months does not mean you should be expecting an RFE.

Hi All,

We're going to be in Phils in a few weeks and need to buy tickets from Manila to Catarman Samar. Last time we flew Asian Spirit. The were sold and renamed Zest Airways in 2008. We looked at tickets on their website a while back and now the site is gone completely. Links to it on other websites don't work either.

Does anybody know anything about Zest Airways? I read a news story from 3 days ago that said they were getting 4 more planes. I think they're still in business but I don't know how to contact them.

i was just on their site a while ago. booked manila-tagbilaran-manila for our december vacation and i didn't have any problem booking.

Philippinescourt-less relationship

I STAND by my *OPINION + REASONING* when love is very strong..the thing people call bored home-sick is non-existence. Yes love can be giving but when some one is in love? all those excuses disappear.

Boys & Girls I am giving you free lecture about the whole situation. Learn and analyze as much as you can while I supplies last.

It takes like honey it feels like honey but it is not Pure Honey or in Slang "it aint Pure Honey!"

My 2 cents for now boys and girls.

Why don't you just wait for your fiance to come and see? Every normal person will feel that when you're in a strange place. Having worked/ lived outside the Philippines won't make living in the US without getting homesick or bored, atleast for the first few months.
