My husband is still very romantic. wub.gif I may not get the cards and emails as much as I did when we were not together, but I don't think too much about it since I see him everyday. I still get an occasional sweet email and will get mushy voicemails from him almost daily. Yeah, I did love the cards and daily emails back in the day, but I'd much rather be able to roll over and hug him then to set down and read an email from him.

That's it! I'm running back upstairs to harrass my hubby! blush.gif

Middle East and North AfricaThe best and worst day ever was today
Awww girl. I wish I could give you a big hug right now. As you know, I know what it's like to have a child with special situations and throughout the years I've also learned how special they really are and that God really has given us a precious gift. Too often I think it's me with the issues my son has. Yes, I have had my meltdowns and I still do, but that's the mom in us. God does not give us more than we can handle. Traven is a little bundle of joy and is such a joy to others. Kids adjust to situations much better than we adults do. The other day my son said "mom, I don't mind being different because it seems everything who thinks they're normal gets into trouble!" I had to giggle. Girl, your a great mom, I know this is hard, but don't let Traven see it. Travens such a smart little dude I know this won't keep him down!

LOL! Same here and it got MUCH WORSE during the visa process! I started getting a haircolor (forget the brand) that has a gray hair re-texturizers so it covers grays even better than the others. If you don't mind my asking, chococat, where is your husband from? Mine's from a farming town (Kafr el Dawar)...now that was roughin' it!

My husband is from a place called Helwan. I didnt stay with him though. I come from a very strict family, both islamically and culture wise. We did our islamic marriage and everything but my father refused to let us spend some time together because he didnt get an apartment yet. We never "ya know." So we when we went out, I had to have my brother with me.

Oh wait..after our ceremony we went out to eat with my brother. My husband forgot his phone in his car, so my brother ..being the kind guy he is..offered to go get it so we can have "sometime alone." My husband started talking to me telling me I looked nice and everything, and there goes my brother. He was back in less than 2 minutes.

It was hard for me, we stayed in a place with no hot water..donkeys..roosters. My family back home is really stubborn, they felt it was rude of us to leave somewhere alone. But honestly, the experience has taught me to thank Allah for everything I've got. :innocent:

So yeah I dont know if I should call him my husband anymore, maybe he is just my fiance??

hi chococat my fiance is fro ( HELWAN ) too

Wow! My husband is from Helwan too

The microbuses in Egypt are truly an experience. I was riding one once.....and.....I kid you not.....the door of the microbus fell off in the middle of Kobry Sit-October.....I couldn't believe it and was shocked and everyone else wasn't that surprised at all..... they were just worried about the inconvenience of delay and questioned the driver how long it would take for him & the guy who collected the fares to have to drive back, pick up the door, and put it back on!!

Every time I rode those little microbuses I would get sick! Guess it was a combination of the pollution and the car fumes.

Ok I give it up entirely except on very rare special occasions. good.gif Where I would only have a glass but never more than two.

Actually, remember the French drink wine with their meals and they aren't traditionally fat. Also, my in-laws in Argentina drink wine with every meal and they are slim, as are most Argentines. It all depends on how much you exercise, calories in - out so to speak...also, there are less calories in a glass of champagne or wine than in a can of coke.

I have European blood but the fat, white, pasty, pudgy, bloated kind. tongue.gif I'm also giving up soda except for the very rare occasional treat! You know like if I reach a goal weight. But mostly because of the sugar and sodium content in them.

Diet soda can do you in too. unsure.gif I had a doctor tell me that the diet soda was preventing me from losing weight. No way, I thought.....but.....I did stop drinking the 88 ounces of diet coke a day and I lost 10 pounds in a month!

I tried a new recipe out on my kids this morning. I have this recipe book "The Sneaky Chef" and all the recipes call for some type of vegetable or fruit puree. Sounds gross I know. Well today I made cocoa chocolate chip pancakes and they loved them! I have to admit they weren't too bad. It had "purple puree" which is spiniach, blueberries (no sugar added) and lemon juice. and white flour, wheat flour and wheat germ. It's amazing! I've only gooded a handful of things from this book, but I need to do more. Next on the list is a chocolate cake with the same purple puree!

That is the book they accused Jessica Seinfeld of ripping off I think... Anyway I think its a great idea. My husband doesnt support the theory however. He thinks our son needs to learn to love the vegetables the way they are vs. sneaking them in stuff. I still do it though. I make my son "strawberry juice" which is carrots, beets and at the end i add a few strawberries. I call him in the room at that point! anyway between the beets and the strawberries it turns a lovely shade of magenta and beets and carrots are sweet so he loves it.

My son has a serious texture and "if it looks funny I ain't eating it" problem. He's a carb-o-holic which really scares me since I have diabetes and diabetes is all in my family......he has a greater change of getting it. It's funny, I'll get a bottle of juice, and refill it for weeks with the V-8 splash and he never notices the difference! good.gif

1 cup shredded Chihuahua cheese, Asadero or Monterey Jack

I always cringe at cheese in recipes. I've been cooking lowfat for nearly 10 years now - if I start loading up cheese on stuff, I end up getting myself a nice stomachache. o.o

What I do:

- Add flavor, not fat. Cheese is basically ... a big old block of pure fat - use spices & good prep, not fats (mayo, butter, oil, cheese = bad)
- Trim as much fat as you possibly : cut fat off the meat - you just chopped off loads of calories. Making burgers? Press down with that spatula - not only are those big ol' flames on the grill pretty cool looking - but a ton of calories just got burned ... quite literally.
- Don't be afraid of bread. Bread's good. So's pasta - if you prepare it right (like, without butter & cheese.)
- If you *must* fry, fry with less oil/fat, or preferably, no added oils/fat.
- Remove fatty toppings ( cheese, oil, mayo, bleh )
- Watch out for those so-called "sugar free" and "low-fat" items in the store. LoL! Read the ingredients & nutrition facts for em. When they take out one thing, they replace it with another. Don't trust it.
- Packaged baked goods are EVIL. All of em! EVIL! EVIL! No exceptions! Put the danish down! biggrin.gif (Even the so-called "low fat" ones - do't be fooled! They substitue sugar for fat. The calories are *almost* identical. No difference. )
- And finally, I like this one the best - if you read the ingredients, and you feel the need to ask yourself ... umm, what's this "partially hydrogenated monoglyceride riboflavinomine xanthanine gum of esther"? Then it's probably best that you ... ... don't eat it.

It's worked great for me.

Also....don't by anything that says "enriched." Means they've taken all the good stuff out. I've even found some supposed whole wheat bread that is enriched. Bad stuff! I'm all into whole wheat pasta. Love the stuff. The hard thing in my house is the rice. My husband is convinced he had enriched rice in Egypt. I'm like...."honey.....I helped clean all that rice, picking out the stones and such and there is no way that rice is enriched!!!! So....what I do. (shush....don't tell him) is that I cook with a little of "his" rice and more with "my" rice. He's never noticed the difference. whistling.gif

I'm going to seriously start exercising and watch what I eat. No promises but something needs to be done. unsure.gif Problem with going on WW or things like that for me is that my medications (prednisone, etc.) bloat me up when I'm in a flare and need to take them so when I'm bloated I get depressed and get the fk it's and eat whatever I want.

If I keep the exercise up though that outta do something.

Isn't there something else besides the prednisone you can take? I know it works, but that stuff is is evil, evil, evil and can cause bad long term effects. sad.gif It can make you gain weight and totally mess up your adrenal glands.

I'm actually going in a couple of hours to my Rheumatologist so I'll ask him but I doubt there's anything else at the moment that I can take. He mentioned enbril or elavil or something I can't remember at one point so I'll ask again.

There's an I.V medication that I've heard RA suffers rave about. Have you looked into that?

But I'm a crappy cook sad.gif Seriously, I'm trying very hard to be a better cook, but I think my problem is I really don't like to cook. If I can prepare it in 10 minutes and throw it in the oven, I'm good, but if it takes a lot of time....I go crazy.
